Rob May Be Trading His Fangs For A Tommy Gun

Harvey Weinstein has been talking. He does that a lot, but this particular chatter is interesting to many of you readers because it concerns one Robert Pattinson. Us Magazine spoke with Weinstein, who revealed that RPattz is one of a number of choices to play the role of Joe Gallo in a big screen adaptation of Tom Folsom’s book, “The Mad Ones: Crazy Joe Gallo and the Revolution at the Edge of the Underworld.”

Folsom’s top pick for the role is Leonardo DiCaprio according to Weinstein, but the studio head has a special place in his heart for the “Twilight” star. “Rob Pattinson, I made him kiss girls in Cannes. He’s the most charming, wonderful young man,” Weinstein told Us. “He really cared about the charity, and that’s not an easy thing to do. That’s a sweet, sweetheart thing to do. And then we got two bids.”

For those of you who don’t know, Joey Gallo was one of the more cultured members of the Mafia during the 1960s/70s. He was often out partying with the glitterati of the time, writing poetry… generally bringing attention to himself in ways that members of organized crime families probably shouldn’t. He was also an incredibly violent, accomplished gangster who unsurprisingly met his end in dinnertime gangland shooting.

Rob in a movie set in the 60s/70s?

Someone's wet dream.

I love that Weinstein loves him!

And yeah, Rob as a 1960s gangster/poet = WIN.

What a lovely thing he said about him, it just cuts through all that other nasty crap that gets written about him......

Yes, I can see sexy Rob as a 60s/70s gangster also; hey if Johnny Depp can pull it off as John Dillinger in the upcoming Public Enemies movie, than Rob can sure as hell do it even better!!Ooo, and a poet also. so cool... let's hope this one comes about.

very interesting that now Rob is up against the likes of Leo for roles. this also reminds me a lot of post-Titanic Leo, of how he got first crack on all the good Hollywood scripts (well he still does) (but ended up doing the widely-panned The Beach lol). i hope Rob (read: his Management) doesn't base his choices to please his fangirls. in my dreams Rob stops making Twilight movies and concentrates on meatier roles that show his range. (sorry, just not a Twilight fan)

Haha, Harvey Weinstein won't dare going home to his daughters if Rob doesn't play the part.

Interesting...I would love to see ROBERT play an Italian, I am going to be so in love! OH SAVE ME NOW!!! And I think he would be so much better than Leo...Heck, I know he would!

Looks like Rob's got some big guns in his corner now...he's made a fan of Weinstein...of course, that probably wasn't hard to do, Rob' s gentility and personality won him over...

This looks like a great project for him, I think he could pull off any type of role :)

I would LOVE to see Rob keep some diversity in his acting portfolio. NO ONE wants to be pigenholed into a single style of movie. He needs to keep bobbing and weaving to be sure he can land all types of roles outside of Edward Cullen.

He was magnificent as Salvador Dali!!

I agree PattinsonForever...Just saw Little Ashes last night as a preview screening...He was unbelievably good. For anyone (and that would not include ANY of us) who thinks he can't act, they need to see that movie. In fact, I'm going back to see it again this weekend. I, too, love how almost giddy Weinstein is over Rob - poet and gangster..Yeah!

Yvonne, "big guns"...hahaha...makes me think of big something else...gahhhh!
