Hitfix Interview with Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson on 'New Moon' and the harsh, faster-paced 'Eclipse'

When this writer first met Robert Pattinson, he was a relatively obscure British actor who'd received a tiny bit of notoriety from appearing in a "Harry Potter" flick. It was April, 2008 and as we talked on the set of this tiny flick titled "Twilight" during a night shoot in the middle of a small Oregon town, he considered a scenario where he might not continue acting. Perhaps he'd focus on the music side of career, perhaps not. Needless to say, what a difference a year and a half makes.

Arguably up there with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as one of the most popular celebrities in the world, it's no understatement to say the "Twilight" franchise has completely changed Pattinson's life forever. We spoke again during the "New Moon" press day on Saturday and while it wasn't the 45 minutes I'd been granted when he was "up and coming" not that long ago, it was clear that Pattinson was still as polite, genial and honest as he was back then.

The 23-year-old joked about how he may just keep working as much as possible because the seclusion of shooting allows him a somewhat "normal life" and went in depth about the differences between working with his "Twilight," "New Moon" and "Eclipse" directors. He also made some particularly intriguing comments about the last "Twilight" installment in particular.

I don't like the way Rob describes Eclipse as "harsh". This worries me. Eclipse better not be some kind of macho man fighting movie.

is he drinking tea? Like the sweet well mannered English man he is? ... :) sigh

Dude, it's so obvious that Kristen and Robert liked CW better than DS. lol KS basically just said DS had his vision of what he wanted and that her and Robert did their thing, but then she literally gushed over CW.

I've got so many things running through my head after this, not the least of which is damn, Rob, lookin' FINE! lol but the rest...

-can't believe people are still asking if he ever thought it would be a phenomenon. he's said no a thousand times. no one knew. stop asking.

-like Marna said, the word "harsh" worries me. I know there's Victoria stuff and fighting at the end, but this was my favorite book because E&B are so together for most of it (besides the puppy kiss, ew.) and I seriously hope he can keep the romance in it even with the action, and I hope it's not overly gorey!

-last, I'm developing a teeny crush on CW these days, and would love nothing more than to see him direct BD, but cripes! those are some big ears!! :)))

thanks for putting up with my rambling!

I found Eclipse to be harsh..
mainly the victoria/newborn fight.

It look a lot outta me whilst reading it..
but the rest of the movie was pretty tame..
with all the bitchiness betweens Eddie and Jake and whatnot.

VF: For the record, RPattz insists that he and KStew are really just good friends and that he deeply admires her. I think she’s the best young actress around, he says. Whatever the case, she’s clearly a kindred, low key spirit. She’s influenced how I’ve done all the Twilight stuff. It’s quite nice to have someone who is genuinely indifferent to the whole spectacle of everything. Indeed, as they pose for picture after picture at CC, KStew couldn’t look any cooler about the whole thing. She and RPattz have mastered the not touching thing. She even throws the crowd a few curveballs by over flirting with muscle bound TL.

October Zoom Star Magazine: People say you have a relationship woth Robert Pattinson. Is this true? Oh no not again this question! (laughs) I know everyone wishes we were together right now. But we’re not. We’re just friends, that’s all. Many girls pursue Rob and they are very jealous. But no, I’m not going out with him.

Hmmm, harsh scares me. They better show the love too. CW is my idol so far, after all the love I've seen in NM. That better continue in Eclipse!!!

I had the same thoughts Haystack.

I can't see the video so thanks for the run down girls...

He says eclipse is harsh? Their were harsh parts in the book between Victoria, Riley, the volturi... And of course Jacob really trying to come between e&b...

This was my fav book, but I got so angry at Bella in this portion...

Hmm... I'm worried now too..

I wouldn't worry about the term harsh, I just think it referes to the fact that in Eclipse the tension is so high about everything, the romance and resolving their trust issues, the Jacob/Bella/Edward thing, Victoria running amok, the alliance with the werewolves, the Volturi showing up late as usual, the whole keeping Charlie safe and ignorant as well.
Lots of angst in this book, lots of unresolved issues that come to a head in this book, harsh realities. Remember harsh can just mean rough times!
