I think I have to apologize. Two days ago, after my first time of seeing New Moon, I said that the reunion kiss was not as passionate as the trailer one, but I was wrong. Yesterday I had my 2nd vision and I realized that it's maybe the same one but taken from a different angle. And it's even better cause it happens after Edward says that he can't live without her.

stephxlee said...

Was anyone else really impressed at how they intertwined Harry's heart attack with the chasing of Victoria in the woods and the whole cliff diving scene. I thought that part was amazing. Very well done.

PerfectDate said...

OK, seriously, don't read this if you haven't seen the movie.........

I like New Moon. I really do. I have just one disappointment........ the reunion scene under the clocktower. What is wrong with me? It didn't bowl me over like I wanted it to. I wanted to be overcome with emotion. And I wasn't.

Maybe I just need to see it again? I wanted E to say "Carlisle was right". What he said was good, I get it, but.....help me out here......

OMG!!! I saw it yesterday and it was amazing!!!

1) Robert was brilliant as Edward. His little smiles, his tortured faces, scene when he finds out that Bella is dead and his look while Jane tortured him??Just unbelievable!!!
I hope the he will finely get some good reviews for this movie. He did wonderful!!!

2) First scene with Edward while walking to Bella. OMG. He looked so great and sexy. All the people in the cinema were like: Ohhh wooow...

3) The fight scene between Edward and Felix and another fight scene between the two werewolves(Jacob and Paul) were amazing. I watched them with my mouth open

4) Kristen did a great job with showing Bella's depression. Her shouting in the night was just so heartbreakingly sad:(

5) Taylor was also really really good

6)The scene with Bella as a vampire was really a bit funny, but I liked it. And the ending was quite surprising. I didn't expect them to do this like that. Now we have to just wait for Eclipse:)

Going to see it again for sure!!!!

I am seeing it tomorrow for the second time, I can't wait. I also loved when Edward asked if Bella could forgive him, and she goes come here and lays a smooch on him. Le sigh. And the classroom scene was awesome too. Every girl in the class lets out a big sigh when Edward finishes. LOL
I agree Harry's heart attack was well done. And so was Edward's entrance in the movie. How f*ckhot was that walk and smirk!!! And that kiss was pretty hot too, like they had to stop themselves. THUD
Oh and the phone crushing. And when the Volturi turned Edward down. God, you could feel how devestated he was about Bella. OK I'll stop now. Obviously I loved the movie. LOL.

I was waiting for this post to share my thoughts about the movie.. With all these great pictures, I was so excited that I was going to see New Moon but it was a total failure. Edward was not even close in the movie to the nice-looking guy in the released pictures. He had a funny make-up with a weird red color of lips. He looked much more attractive in the first movie even with that bouffant. Cullens looked ridiculuosly unattractive too. They looked more natural in Twilight. And somehow somebody forgot that their eyes change color. Edward's eyes should have been totally black in Italy if he didn't feed on the way from Brazil to Italy.. What was that nonsense???

In New Moon, for Edward scenes thay traded action scenes for showing the feeling scenes and because there was no time left, there was no emotions AT ALL. While I was reading the books, the thing I hated most was that Bella and Edward hardly spoke about the fact that Edward left her no matter what. In the book at least there were pages of him apologizing, promising, begging, getting angry with himself, desperatley looking for forgiveness. Where are all of these scenes???? That was the most important part of the book for me. There is NONE of it. For a person who didn't read the books, there is a whole gap there. I have seen the movie with my husband, he didn't read the books, he was like "They didn't even speak and he is proposing her now after leaving her alone for almost a year????? And she will say that proposal yes?? This is not even ridiculuos, this is stupid!!!" I totally agree with him. They couldn't have shown Edward more stupid... He was so soulless, I wanted Bella to be with Jacob ate the end, really. And the only reason I am into Twilight is Rob. It was that bad... The camera was more focused on Jacob's feeling even when he was in the werewolf form. In the last scene, the camera was never really focused on Edward... Isn't this franchise about Bella and Edward??? And God's sake, this guy is proposing at the moment, can't you just make it a little bit more emotional and more focused??? They tried so hard to push Jacob into the picture, I am sorry but I felt like they threw Edward out of the picture all together. The only times that I felt Edward was the apparition scenes. He really made me feel his worry.

Twilight was out of the story line but it stood by itself as a movie. I haven't read the books before and movie was what really attracted me. New Moon can never do that. It doesn't have its own soul. It's like random scenes from the book made into a soup. I had to describe so many things to my husband after the movie because nobody that didn't read the books would get it. Bella telling Jasper "You shouldn't do that.." in the school while he is controlling her emotions about the birthday party. Excuse me... What the hell is going on there??? If they coulnd't explain some of the things visually, Bella should have kept speaking on the screen and explain somethings as she did in the first movie. I am so sorry for New Moon. Chris Weitz might be good director but unfortunately he didn't get the emotional part between Bella and Edward which is the most important thing by the way. I hope David Slade will do a better job in Eclipse which I highly doubt. After this movie, I decided that Breaking Dawn definitely needs a woman director.

Damian said...

I have seen it twice, and I cannot imagine it done any better. Weitz is a genious! The combined scenes were amazingly well done! Love love loved it. Robert was perfection, though the white skin was a little too white and cakey, making him look a bit older. He is a truely naturally gifted actor.

Although I know that everyone can have his/her own opinion about the movie, but I'm really surprised that there are some negative opinions about so many things in this movie. I think it is a really huge challenge to go into a movie from a book and what book??? CW did amazing work and I loved it so much...

I absolutlely loved how the put Harry's heart attack in the movie. Better than in the book in my opinion. The movie was great and hard to pick a scene I loved the most. The reunion scene. The scene Edward first arriving and then quoting Shakessphere. I know I can't spell his name right. I am on my way to see it again and will see it again next week.

AnnaD said...

I agree that they should have explained Jasper's gift better, but that wasn't Chris's fault, that's Cathrine's fault for not even mentioning it in Twilight.

Overall, I thought it was fantastic. Maybe a little rushed in areas, but it worked for me. YES you need to read the books first, but that's the POINT. This is for fans to see their imaginations come to life and new people to be curious about the books. New Moon definitely did that.

Rob was great, Taylor was great and Kristen did a MUCH better job.

Poll on weather New Moon lived up to it's hype, um yes!

I loved the movie! I only got to see it once on Friday morning, and I happened to be sitting by the ONE girl in the theater who wouldn't shut up! So annoying, certain parts I didn't get to hear...I literally wanted to throw her out of the movie! I couldn't move seats because it was so packed.

What surprised me was all the humor. Anna Kendrick was brilliant. Taylor I thought did a great job, he and KS have a good chemistry I must say. I also agree with stephxlee, the whole Victoria part was really well done. I loved that song. Michael Sheen played Aro perfectly, he was straight up evil! Dakota was good too. I could go on and on...but I need to go see it again!

riddleinside said...

@ stephxlee: totally agree, I couldn't believe it, I was so amazed, that scene is truly amazing. I want to go back and see it again

Marenostrum said...

I just want to add something. Th reason I am really disappointed about this movie is the part of the story with Edward. Since he was gone, until he came back, all the story and the scenes were perfectly organized and they were all amazing. Both Taylor and Kristen did great jobs. I feel like they didn't give the same opportunity to Rob, everything about him was so rushed and unfocused. :(

noisefaidaus said...

This movie is so rich with emotion you can feel it!!!!
I have never felt 2 hours plus go by so fast.
Chris as a director is a genius!!! Rob, and Kristen are brilliant!!! And though I'm not a Taylor fan the guy did a surprisingly good job.
Unfortunately if after reading the books you have built an NC17 or R rated version of things in your mind, then this movies may not have been HOT enough for you!
But as a PG13 movie I think they pushed the envelope as far as they could.
It is romantic, tense, heart breaking and beautiful take it for what it is a beautifully crafted film with people that play their characters flawlessly!!!

Because I'm such a fan, I am thankful that there was a movie at all. But, I have to agree with some of what Marenostrom wrote. I did not FEEL the emotions from either Edward or Bella. Yes Bella was depressed, yes Edward was forlorn, but it seemed cold & without heart. I wanted to to see the passion behind the heartache from Edward..he was too quiet and Bella just had a depressed expression the entire movie. The proposal scene was also cold. I too think that Twilight was a much better & more realistic representation of the book. It made me feel their love/devotion/passion and it seemed like it could have really happened. New Moon (again thankful we have it) seemed more like a blockbuster movie to me. Everyone was new & improved: better hair, better clothes, better cars, cleaner, shinier....more Hollywoodesque. I will say that the chase scene between the wolves & Victoria with Bella's jump & Harry's heart attack was AWESOME and the Felix/Edward fight scene was FANTASIC. I thought the music was great (although it seemed to be misplaced alot of times or too loud). I think the Alice vision scene of Bella as a vampire was hilarious and could have been accomplished with just a flash of Bella with golden eyes & sparkly skin. Over all, I enjoyed the movie as a tangible vision of the book. I love Edward & Bella and Rob & Kristen for playing them, but I wish I could have FELT the pain, FELT the heartache, FELT more of everything like I did in the book & even in Twilight.

I saw it at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday and I left a bit disappointed, but happy with the majority of the film. After thinking about the movie, the scenes and the emotions, now I can't wait to go again. I think it takes either repeat viewings or some time. I can get that people didn't like it...but I think Chris did a great job, and unless he had a $100 million budget ala Lord of the Rings or something, he was constrained. I'm happy with it, and can't wait for Eclipse. Let's hope DS did as good (or better) a job as CW and we'll have ourselves a series!

AP said...

@PerfectDate: I understand your point. Everything was a little 'muted' or damped down. Some of that, I'm sure, is due to the required rating. The other is the problem, repeating here, of all the mini-climaxes being so close together. The montage (cliff, Harry etc) was good, but there are more major set points to come: clocktower, Volturi, the big question etc. In the book there is far more time to allow for peaks and valleys, but that's a luxury the film doesn't have. The build has to be far more 'orchestrated.'
Also the Volturi episode in the book is basically a static scene which they had to make more physical to keep momentum, but that creates its own problems. I still think the difficulty is with the tempo of the overall arc although the individual scenes work fine.
Meant to say before. Kristen was great: she played all shades of moping, not an easy task. lol Taylor rose to the challenge. Still think Rob's part was hurt by the constraints of time and that said problem. He did some really nice subtle stuff, though. I do wish there'd been a little more of him, too. :)

The film doesn't completely stand on its own, but Chris wanted to make the film as true to the storyline as he could, and for the fans. I think he delivered.

truthfully the movies are made for the fans that HAVE read the books in so many ways but there is still a responsibility to present a good movie to viewers who may have not read the books. I agree I felt the neding was rushed I would have much rather they axed the Mike at the movies scene and use the time for the end, but that being said it was done very well. And we all did read the books, so we have the benefit of knowing what wasn't shown, I try to look at it that way :) my heart broke for jake at the end I must admitt.

@Becky, I was trying to say exactly the same thing. I don't think it was about the ability of Rob or Kristen to show these feelings, it's just that movie was not focused on those feelings, not focused on that part of the story at all. And for me, that was the most important part of the story. I wouldn't mind not to see a long chase of Victoria by the werewolves or Dimitri beating Edward to death in a slow motion... But I mind that I didn't see that flow of emotions and dialogue between Edward and Bella. I wanted to see that Edward was so afraid and was in so much pain about the possibility that Bella might not forgive him.

Okay, you people are going to hate me but I must preface this by saying I am a diehard fan and I was so excited to see this movie, which was also crowded with diehard fans, but it was terrible. People just started talking midway through because they were so bored (not me, but a bunch of people in the theater). Then people started laughing at the scenes that were supposed to be serious! Like the Bella and Edward running through the forest in bad clothes (the theater erupted in laughter because they looked so lame). It was such a humiliating experience. Why does Chris Weitz feel it's necessary to follow every sentence of dialogue with a twenty second pause that's filled with violin music? Why was Edward's face like a clown? Does he need BRIGHT RED LIPS??? Melissa Rosenberg -- OMG I know small children who can write better dialogue. I was a huge fan of the first movie. Don't get me wrong there were scenes in this movie I loved ... like the wolves were cool, and the Volturi were incredible. Charlie was warm, fuzzy and wonderful. Mike Newton was hilarious (as were all the humans in this one). But overall, huge disappointment.

Marenostrum said...

@twilight, same with the theater I have seen the movie. Alice's vision was so ridiculuos everbody burst into laughter, I am not kidding and to be honest they looked like the stupid couples running in slow motion in Turkish movies of 60's.. If they are not gonna travel in time, how is it possible for them to run in the forest with those ridiculuos outfits???

I thought the movie was...okay. I didn't have high expectations, so I have to say that it did exceed them. It was entertaining.

I think I will probably have an unpopular opinion and say that I didn't like Edward in this. I know from reading countless interviews that Rob sees Edward as such a tortured, depressed soul, and I agree to a certain extent, but he just takes it a little too far. The low speaking, the emo looks on his face, the lack of eye contact. I know he's conflicted during a lot of this movie, but seeing an ounce of happiness once he'd returned to Forks would've been nice. I mean, the love of your existence flies across the world to save you from death, she takes your sorry ass back, and you don't smile once? No. Not to say I thought Rob's acting was bad, I just think the acting choices he made were wrong.

I grew to like Jacob's character so much throughout the film that I found myself not really caring if Edward came back. Bella seemed so at home with him that I thought in this installment at least that it was kind of hard to see what she found so attractive about Edward. I was actually disappointed when Edward's call interrupted their kiss. BAD, I KNOW.

I liked that CW incorporated Edward's POV in the phone call to the Swan house, but he deserves to be reamed for that 'vision'. It was awful.

I kept waiting for Carlisle and Bella to make out while he stitched her up.

Was anyone else disappointed with the reunion? It was so...unemotional and kind of anti-climactic for me. Like...you see the love of your life who almost killed himself for the first time in months, and that's the reaction you have? I don't care if you think he doesn't want you - you cry, you act happy, you act...any way other than the way they did.

Overall, I thought it was much, much better than Twilight, and I thought Mike, Jessica and Charlie stole the show. I enjoyed a lot of the humor (Face Punch and Love Spelled Backwards is Love), and the cinematography was lovely. The two hours went by fairly quickly, and I didn't feel like it dragged, even when Edward was gone. Kristen did a good job, and I thought Taylor did too. I think the two of them have more onscreen chemistry than Kristen and Rob do.

The ending was complete balls, however, even though I knew it was coming.

I totally loved the movie but the one thing that is bothering is how the film clips they showed earlier were kinda the parts where i expected to get emotional in the theater.
Take the underwater scene for example: when i first saw it on the trailer, i was so shocked like i just couldn't wait to see that part in the theater.. Then after seeing it a couple hundred times, once i saw it in the theater it was nothing. Same with Victoria coming up behind Charlie in the forest.. If i hadn't seen that part in the trailer, i totally would've freaked the hell out in the theater. I really liked the placement of Hearing Damage though. And Possibility. Almost cried but i kept it together :)

I really hope i get a chance to see it again in the theater because I was sitting rather close so it was hard to catch everything on the huge screen..

And of course, with the huge cliffhanger ending, everyone in the theater went: UGH!

@Wen, I am not a hater. I LOVE the books. I loved the first movie. I think Rob is awesome. I think you can be a fan but be an honest one too. Really, I wanted this movie to be good, hoped, crossed my fingers. But if my own feeling and the feeling of the fans in the theater I was in are any indication: this movie sucked. The theater was full of fans decked out in Team Edward and Team Jacob outfits and they literally booed at the end. Booed. I have never been in a theater where the whole place boos at the end, and FANS did that. Wow. It was just painful to watch. I am embarrassed for Rob and Kristen, but they'll still make gobs of money so I guess I shouldn't be.

I've only seen it the once but it was better than I thought it was going to be (After some of the awkwardly acted trailers - I think a sound track helped). I'm Team Edward all the way but I thought Taylor did a great job (after he got rid of that ridiculous wig). And talking of wigs... WTF was up with the Cullens' Wigs??? Especially Jasper and Rosalies!!! Even Carlisle and Alices looked odd. They went a bit overboard with the golden contact lenses too. However I still really enjoyed it although the end was a bit abrupt. I'll definately be going to see it a few more times at the flicks in the next weeks but I'm looking forward to the DVD as there are a few scenes I'll be watching over and over (in slow mo ;-)

Forgot to mention that when i was watching the trailers before the movie and i heard "Gandhi said that whatever you do in life will be insignificant" my heart was pounding and i think i almost passed out. Very smart move to put that before New Moon because as soon as it showed his face in the trailer, i heard whispers throughout the theater: "Is that rob?" "Aww it's Rob!" Or: *GASP*

Here's my take-loves & dislikes:

Rob was so moving in not only his expressions, but his voice and his eyes. The pain, the longing, the restraint, and the "uptightness" that is all Edward was PERFECTION.

Kristen's portrayal of Bella still left me wanting a little more emotion, but I was really pleased with her performance.

Taylor was amazing (and I am not a fan)

The kisses were HOT!

Billy Burke is a total scene stealer as Charlie.

The humans were great...Jessica was a crack up.

Chris's directing and vision was beautiful.

The volturi were scary!

The wolves were amazing!

Things I did not like:

The wolf pack; bad acting...all the way around

The editing was terrible. They jumped from scene to scene so quickly that it ruined not only the previous scene, but the new one.

I hated the beginning of the movie because they started it with Bella running through the crowds in Italy.

So many pivotal scenes were left out, and I'm not talking about not enough Edward. I thought there was enough...but what really pissed me off is after they return from Italy (which btw, there's no trip home, they're just there).

No confrontation between Charlie and Edward, at all. That was a major FAIL.

After they are home and back in Bella's bedroom, and Edward tells her there's no hurry to change her-BOOM, they're in the Cullen's house. No discussion at all about putting it to a vote. Major FAIL there.

Victoria-bleh..did nothing for me.

Will I see it again??? Oh hell yes. Going again tomorrow and Monday. Am I disappointed? A little, but not enough to ruin it for me.

Bring on Eclipse!! I thought the ending was brilliant.

Saw New Moon yesterday and really enjoyed it. I thought Chris Weitz did a great job staying true to the book, but I was surprised how much more I felt the case for team Jacob in this movie then I did in the book. Three favorite parts were:
1. Victoria being chased through the woods, Harry's heart attack and Bella jumping off the cliff. What an incredible sequence! Loved the shots, the music and the color! He really made the forest greens pop and Victoria's red hair!! The music really gave it an incredible spiritual element. Very subconscious, emotional, spiritual sequence. I think Chris Weitz did a crazy great job here.
2. The scene where Bella stops Edward from walking into the light and then tells him that she she knows she can let him go. I may get boo-hissed here by other fans, but I really loved that line, because I really believed that she could let him go and be ok. You just watched her for two hours mourn her relationship with him and jake helped her pick up the pieces and then she finally sees him again and she realizes how much stronger she is. The worst thing that could happen to her happened. She lost him and she survived it. I thought that was a great line and made me tear up a little bit.
3. The scene at the end when she tells Jake that she loves him but not to make her choose because she'll always choose Edward. I also love this scene because this movie really makes a strong case for team Jacob and you realize she is caught between two incredible love stories. I really felt my heart break for Jake at that moment.
Overall I thought that yes, this movie was much more commercial then Twilight and therefore didn't feel as real (even though it is a fantasy movie). I think that these books are incredibly difficult to transfer to the big screen, and some of the "isn't Edward incredible" scenes were a little too cheesy for me. I've always been on team Edward but had to say I was really rooting for Jacob in this movie. I thought Taylor Lautner did a superb job. I thought R Patz was great in the limited scenes he was in. And I thought Kristen Stewart was much more believable this time and did a really great job. She really is a beautiful girl. I also agree that the make-up job on Edward wasn't great and that everyone's contact lenses were a bit too bright (though I understand why they did that). Did not like the cheesy scene of Bella and Edward running through the woods in Alice's vision. These movies already come under enough criticism for being cheesy and silly to add to that argument with scenes like that. Overall thought that Chris Weitz and company did justice to the book. I look forward to seeing how Eclipse and Breaking Dawn come out too.

New Moon was brilliant. I thank Chris a million times. It is a little hard to watch the movie without having read the books or seeing the first one, but I am glad they chose it like this. The first scene with Edward was so hott and the kiss was amazing. Edward and Bella look more in love in this movie than in Twilight. One of the really emotional parts for me in the book was when I was flipping through the pages of just months passing by. I was ecstatic because they incorporated that. I especially loved the way they out it in; the camera rotating around her and her talking to Alice. I liked how they had Bella sending emails to Alice throughout her tough time. Amazing. Taylor did an amazing job, picking up from Twilight with grace. The wolf pack, just one word: yummy. Anna Kendrick (Jessica) was so funny, especially in the movie theater scene. All the humans were great. I loved the humor they added in this movie, a great touch. The scene where Edward crushes the phone is amazing; his emotions are so strong. Rob was perfect. I absolutely loved Ashley's performance. When she first talks to Bella about cliff diving, her acting was so real. The reunion scene under the clocktower was very good. The whole Volturi cast was good; the scenes were very well done. Again, thank you Chris. At home, when Edward asks for forgiveness was breathtaking. I love how Bella says come here and they kiss. The voting scene was good; Nikki Reed was very good. I loved how Emmett gave her a big bear hug. The scene with Edward, Bella, and Jacob at the end was very emotional; I am Team Edward, but I felt bad for Jacob. After Edward asks Bella to marry her; I was on the edge of my seat. And then the screen went blank. The ending was very clever and left for a good opening for Eclipse. Beautiful job with New Moon. I am truly grateful to Chris. :)

@OOMLisa's: have to say I don't agree with your take on Rob's choices, or the chemistry being stronger between Bella/Jacob. I think Rob's choices were fine. Basically there just wasn’t enough time in the movie to elaborate. Also, the relationship between Bella and Edward is 'understood' and shouldn't have to be restated all the time. For the characters, it's meant to be like breathing to be together. I thought that was supposed to be the whole point to Bella’s collapse and withdrawal and her thrill-seeking. She learns she can survive without him, but not entirely whole, and he learns he really can't survive without her. At least that was a throughline in the film.

I could relay every single bit of the film and say how brilliant it was! It blew me away, literally left me breathless.

The part where Alice shows Aro that Bella will become a vampire, made me laugh out loud! It was so cheesy, but somehow so right!

And when Edward utters those last two words at the end of the film... gaah!! It was nearly the end of me!

And his entrance at he beginning of the film... could he be any hotter!! And the scene where he crushes the phone... it nearly killed me! And when he is reciting Romeo's lines... he sounded so sad but I couldn't help but giggle at the entire class staring at him!

I'm glad they managed to use the November, December etc at the beginning as I thought it was really effective in the book, and I liked how Bella wrote emails to Alice so that you still managed to hear from Bella her feelings.

I thought Jacob's character was played really well. It's good to see Taylor being able to come into his own.

Wow, there is so much more I could say. Actually, I do want to add one more thing. It's a shame with movies how much time constraint there is, and although the ending dialogue was cut short and maybe some key words missed out, to me it still managed to convey the things needed. Right before Edwards proposes and he's throwing years at Bella, I thought Rob did such a good job. You could literally see the cogs working in Edwards head and the twitches of his lips as he thinks it through... he looks so happy when he says it!

I cannot wait to see it again, and I can't wait for Eclipse!

The only disappointing thing about the movie is the fans themselves. I could not hear SHIT with all the screamings. LOL! I had enough.
The scene where Bella screams in terror in Bed, the whole audience was like cracking up. And it was supposed to be a really depressing scene....it was...I wanted to feel Bella's pain with her through the movie but the crazy fans just ruined the whole movie experience.

Anyways, 100 out of 100 for the movie. I could not sleep the entire night, can't get over the movie...I have to see it again before the DVD release.

Jacob, I actually liked him. Edward was gone but I wasn't searching for him at all. Wow! But still Team Edward ALL THE WAYYY!!!!

I saw New Moon last night with a group of friends from work. All of us enjoyed it,even though we were on different teams, three team Edward and three team Jacob. LOVED the end when ..............

SPOILER----SPOILER---SPOILER---SPOILER

When Bella told Jacob that she loves him, but if he makes her choose it will be Edward, and that it would always be Edward. Although i hate when people comment during movies, I had to yell out a yes, and clap. LOL

Going tonight with with my sister, and another group of friends.

Sunflower, I totally agree! I saw it again today for the second time and I did get teary-eyed this time when he said he couldn't live without her and then kissed her, unlike the first time I felt it wasn't passionate. Taylor made me love Jacob, Kristen proved she IS Bella, and Rob's delivery of Edward is heart melting, I mean it is ROB, and Michael Sheen is AMAZING!
I did not like the vampires' make up though, and I did feel like there was a lack of emotion between Edward and Bella. I mean I love the books because of Edward's passion and devotion to Bella and I think it wasn't fully translated into the movie. While I'm glad we have a NM film, for some reason Twilight felt more real, like it could be happening somewhere on that side of the states, while NM seemed more cartoonish??The scene where Bella and Edward are running, I don't know it made Edward look so feminine, and cheesy some people in the audience were laughing. Nonetheless I liked it even though NM is not my favorite book. I cannot wait for Eclipse!

lovsun said...

I loved it and I saw it for the 2nd time today. You need to go into this knowing that the book and the movie are going to be two separate things. Did you not see the feelings that Edward had when he leaned in to kiss her goodbye? The sorrow, how much he hurt having to do this. I saw his love for her in the expression that RP had on his face.

Sure there was a time or two that I wished they could have stepped it up....eye color during the time Edward hadn't been feeding...the makeup and hair on Jasper & Rose....

But the true love story between Edward and Bella...between Jake and Bella...that was still there. You just need to really open your eyes and you will see it. And personally, I liked the emotion shown by Kristen during the breakup scene and thereafter. That is exactly how I imagined her to be...the aching hole in her chest leaving her devoid of emotion... like she was feeling she no longer existed w/out Edward.

I really hate to see the hate that I knew would come with this movie. My only complaint is that I wish it would have been at least an hour longer. I know I would have gladly sat for three hrs if not more.

And yeah I will see it again, and buy the DVD..and yeah i am a mom with 2 grown boys :)

I saw it three times in a 24 hr period. OCD! Hell Yeah!

I really liked it. I knew this was Jacob's movie. I went into it with that firmly in my head and so I was not sad to see so little of Edward.

Taylor was awesome and deserves every bit of praise he has gotten. Kristen was good. Firmly good! Rob is a good actor. He does subtle really well. For the teen crowd, this will be lost on them. Facial expressions, sadness in eyes.....all of these are not noticed by harmone raging teens who nearly pass out when Jacob strips his shirt off. But to those of us, who have progressed past that and enjoy a bit more depth, Rob really nailed the sadness of Edward. The conflict, the pain, the hurt. I thought he was great.

Chris W. did a great job. Not every choice he made did I agree with, but considering everything I was more than pleased. It followed the book pretty darn religiously and was just fun. I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster for 2 hrs.

Well Done!!!

Over all I like the movie. These aren't easy books to bring to screen at 2 hours. Kristen did better at Bella. She was less Kristen like her previous movies. Taylor did well. The kid worked hard but the the wolves as humans, well, the acting was not good Liked them better as wolves. The Harry & Victoria and cliff diving scene was terrific. Edward was just getting interesting at the end when.......fade to black. Did I like the ending-no, but it left me wanting more. I will see NM at least one more time. Eclipse as a movie is another challenge to bring to the screen. I look forward BD most of all.

I Loved Love the movie..but not the contacts they used for Edwards eyes...was off and too light, also made his eyes red looking, IMO~I felt he looked better in the 1st movie. The wolf pack were so funny as well as good ol' Mike Newton...and Aro was killer w/his lines! Chris did an amazing job!

Ohhhh.almost forgot to mention the reunion scene at clock tower...it almost did me in with Edward's facial expressions and deep emotions of regret and sadness when they were embracing...I just lost it!..tissue plz!

I have read many of the comments posted and I have to agree with the general consensus. I feel let down with the Bella and Edward relationship. I did not get passion, love, or devotion. It felt disconnected and unemotional.

Also I never expected to enjoy the great chemistry and relationship that was established between Bella and Jacob. I have never been a Jacob fan and I felt so perplexed at the end because I want them to be together.

Kristen and Taylor were amazing. I also agree that the Victoria, heart attack, cliff diving scene was gorgeous, I loved the cgi wolves, and the scene with the volturi at the end.

I went to see it with my sister and as someone posted earlier that they went with their husband who had not read the books. I felt like I had to explain some things to her as well. She asked a good question too about the Volturi "Why don't they just change Bella right then and there if they are so powerful?" I know it is not in the books but she makes a valid point.

One more thing before my rambling is over...I love Rob I am a big fan but I am on the same page with a lot of people about the makeup disconnected me from him, his eyes especially, and I can deal with the lipstick. He was too quiet also. I know Rob has said in interviews that it is difficult to emote or shout while doing another accent. I went to see it again today to see if I could catch some nuances that I may have missed. Yes, I did see a little more of the relationship and I liked Rob (Edward) a little more.

One more thing I laughed out loud at the Bella as a vampire scene. I agree with someone else saying it should have been a flash of her sparkling in the sun.

I saw the movie yesterday with some trepidation given the bad reviews. I am very happy to report that it gave me the same goofy grin on my face that Twilight did and the same compulsion to see it again, which I did today!

My impressions:

I am still firmly Team Edward (and Team Rob) but Taylor did a great job presenting Jacob as a viable "consolation prize" alternative. Loved the scene on the stairs at the movies where Bella tells Jacob she is "never gonna run right". I also thought the scene where Jacob begs Bella not to go as she leaves for Italy was quite touching.

Charlie was fantastic showing the perfect combination of awkward love and concern.

I thought Kristen's performance was much improved over Twilight, and I liked and empathized more with Bella as a result. She and Taylor had a lovely, light chemistry that I think perfectly captured their relationship.

Now to Rob - Oh, Edward!! I loved him. Reciting Shakespeare - yum. The moaning, painful kiss. The breakup scene "I don't want you". His whispered "Heaven" in Italy. I even liked apparition Rob more than I thought I would. The reunion scene in Italy actually moved me more on the second viewing (I teared up!). The beautiful, crooked smile right before the proposal. Win!

I will say that I thought the wardrobe was awful! Why was Alice always wearing smocks!! (Loved her, too, by the way.) I get why they had Edward in the same suit all the time, but couldn't that have picked a better suit?

The vampire flash ahead was very corny, although Bella as a vampire was lovely.

I thought the wolf pack acting was pretty weak, but I loved the wolves.

I actually liked the clothes except poor Edward.. He was in the same clothes for 6 months and were thread bare..

thirtygirl2009- i think that the reason why twiilight felt more realistic is because of the indie feel that CH gave it. New Moon was filmed as a Hollywood blockbuster kind of movie, with a grand production design that i think took away from the intimacy and the personality that twilight had. Twilight is a intimate and deep story, much more about feelings and interactions. If you give it a big budget treatment, it makes it feel detached and like its taking itself too seriously. I dont know if im making myself clear but i think thats the whole reason why new moon didnt work as well as twilight did. Why also it drew laughs from the audience. You have to make people buy into the story first. Make them believe this could really happen. Which is what Catherine Hardwick did on some level. New Moon treats Bella and Edwards relationship as a given and takes it for granted. Thus, it makes it seem too superficial. Thats why people who havent read the books dont get it. They dont feel the urgency, the passion between these two.
i have mixed feelings about the movie right now. I dont know what to think about it. Ill have to watch it again to get a good opinion on it.
Im not so sure Chris Weitz really gets the story. I think hes more into the wolves and action than anything else.

anonymous said...

I loved this movie. But I was also realistic going in that not everything I loved in the book would be in the movie - after all it is only two hours long. Maybe they could have done it similar to Titanic (3 + hours long) but they didn't so some things were going to get rushed or left out.

That said, I still loved this movie and definitely agree that it is an improvement from Twilight. The only things that bugged me about this movie were superficial - Carlisle, Jasper and Rosalie's wigs (all really fake looking), and for some reason Kristen's/Bella's eyebrows. I kept saying they were plucked too harsh and looked like "angry eyebrows". lol

Kristen Stewart deserves to be considered for some "serious" award for this movie. I am not a big fan of her as a person, but she is amazing in this movie and she carries it more than Rob/Edward or Taylor/Jacob. They were great in their own right - but Kristen's portrayal made Bella's pain throughout the movie tangible, and the character more realistic.

Can I put my tuppence worth in here? I have yet to read a review of a Harry Potter movie that didn't have the same complaints levelled at it be it acting or directing. There are huge chunks of the book left out in HP, likewise with NM, it is physically impossible to cram up to 600 pages into 2hrs and choices have to be made as to how to progress the story. Did I like it? I LOVED IT! I will be going to see it again at least once more before I get the DVD. I thought the trio of Bella Edward and Jacob were wonderful I was really impressed with Taylors performance and as for the critics of Robs performance if he doesn't do it subtly does he do a Bela Lugosi on it? I think subtle was best and I got all the pain he was trying to portray. If I have any complaint it is that we saw too damn much of it online before the movie was released so maybe Summit should do less is more for Eclipse

I really enjoyed this movie but I didn't like the color of the golden contacts. It was too much and the Volturi's red eyes were a little too much too. My only big complaint was that there wasn't enough time spent on the reunion scene. I would have liked to have seen Edward grovel at Bella's feet a little.

OMG!!!! Just home from seeing NEW MOON. Absolutely, Fantastically, Awesome.... The whole thing was just jaw-dropping. The passion they brought to the screen as Bella and Edward was just amazing... Jacob was just gorgeous and some of the scenes had sooo much feeling in them between Bella and Jacob. There was a lot of screaming going on in the cinema - LOL - but laughter too at some bits. They did everything right in this film and Edward SMILES - wow I dont think he smiled in Twilight!! It was totally awesome! Well Done Robert, Kristen and Taylor.. Round of applause for you all it the best night at the pics all year. Well worth the wait. M D X

after my third viewing, I'm officially in love with this film. Kristen Stewart blows me away every time! And that scene with chasing Victoria is amazing.
The acting was great all around, human, Volturi, Kristen, Taylor and Rob.
It's very important what kind of audience you watch it with.
The parallel with Romeo and Juliet was very romantic. Edwards' entrance to Monsters was very hot. The reunion was amazing. Watching Edwards face expressions throughout the movie was a separate experience. Music was done beautifully, I loved the score at the end. And wow, what an ending...I loved Edwards' expression when he proposed. For me Edward came to life this time around, he was very statuesque, tortured and gorgeous. Rob did an amazing job. Watching all the interviews with Rob and Kristen, it amazes me, how different they are from their characters, in mannerisms, voices and just about everything. They are both great actors. Oh yeah and Chris Weitz is my hero! Wish he would do Breaking Dawn, who is starting the petition? :)

Awesome movie!! Ready to see it again and again and again! Currently rereading the book to see if I can catch the subtle differences. :) But loved how Chris Weitz pieced it together with the "emails" to Alice!! Also gotta say I loved the Jimmy Kimmel interview last nite!!! And the Up Close with Carrie Keagan one too! Both were just too funny!! Rob and his butt muscle/groin muscle pull!! hahaha I ♥ Robward! Can't wait for Eclipse!!

I loved the movie!!!! The guys did a great job.
Of course you cannot bring the whole book into two hours movie. Three hours? When it's too long, it becomes boring and you just start waiting for the end (or maybe it's because I didn't like Titanic)...
There are lots of people and everybody with his/HER expectation. I did not expect much, I just wanted to enjoy the moie. And I did.
I felt Bella's pain and how she needed Jacob to be next to her... I felt Edward's pain when he was leaving her - his expression when he kissed her goodbye said it all...
The Volturi scene, when she saved him... I teared up... And the end - I felt sorry for Jacob very much.
And all that's because the guys did a great job. Really.
My applause for everyone in the cast and CW.
Yes, maybe the movie was made as more commercial. But they already new that it will be a success. None knew what to expect from Twilight, but everybody knew that New Moon will break the records.
Good job!!! Damn it, how talented these people are!!! :))

my comment for newmoon:
1. summit,MR,CW had great work on make this movie as jacob movie. they throw edward back and bring jacob to life really well, do u remember that they had released many pivotal E/B scene like the breakup scene long before newmoon come out. i think it's one of the reason people dont get the love passion between e/b in the movie anymore cos most of them already watched it. i blame MR who made edward so quiet at this one, edward's line is so limited at this one and poor rob cos everybody blame him for that cos they didn't feel enough about his facial pain expression.i agree with u janice that teenager cant get it from rob cos they blown away with jacob's appearance.

2.i dont understand why people start saying that j/b chemistry is so much better than e/b chemistry. C'mon, this is new moon, we only get e/b happy moment at very limited time in the early, after that rob played edward very convincing when he leaves bella, then j/b relationship get along very well and have enough time to show it to the audience. i think people should watch twilight again the moment before they watch newmoon, so they can feel again how passionate this e/b relationship and then they can feel how much heartbreaking when edward leave.

Reading everyones comments. I'm seriously torn. Loved the movie, but hate that I didn't really feel it in the way i thought I was. 3. i dissagree with people who said rob's acting was bad at newmoon.i thought he did it really well. he only had limited lines to express all of the emotion, and he did it really well with his facial expression. i read at one site, they think rob's acting is so worse than taylor's. i agree that taylor did his job really well, but rob's did it well too. his character is so complex and heavier to play than jacob character. we can easily find jacob's character in real life, but not with edward's.edward's charater is more challenging character to play and thank to Rob for portraying edward really well.

4. i understand why people start to convert team right now, cos jacob's in newmoon is supposed to be the one we can fall in love easily and edward is a bad guy here.

Last i dont care to the fans who start to say bad things about rob becos of his performence at newmoon, screw them and they can go to H**L and happy with their puppy, but i just hope that rob wont take all of negative comments about it too serious like he did when the first time he was announced to be edward cullen.

ps: thank u CW for ur amazing work, the only disappointment i feel about u is u cut e/b moment so much and u throw it to the trash and push j/b at the surface too strong and make them like they are a real couple in the movie which is not in the book cos as long as i concern that bella didnt realize that she love jacob until eclipse come out.

LOL @ amazeofgrace - People in the theater all laughed at the running in the forest scene. And I don't think it was supposed to be funny. The only other thing I didn't like was the makeup. The red lipstick Edward was wearing was a bit much for me, and his clothes were too old for someone supposed to be only 17. (the brown shoes! ugh)

Did anyone else notice that some of the scenes we saw in spoilers weren't in the final movie? Like the birthday scene where they show the cake and Bella says "That cake could feed 50 people"; and the scene where Alice is talking to Bella and makes a comment about her "Knowing too much about the vampires". It's kind of funny that we have seen more in spoilers than was actually in the movie. I agree also that next time with Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, they need to cut down on the amount of spoilers. For me, by the time NM was released I felt like I had seen the entire movie already! (yes, I know the option is not to watch the spoilers, but I can't help it. lol)

Rpattzgirl: I agree with you almost point for point! With one major exception: I thought Taylor was bad. Boy had no game at all. Too much focus on the "look at my abs" seduction routine and nothing else to make Bella desire him as a man. In fact in general, everyone was dead bellow the belt in this movie... apart from very first E&B kiss.

Don't get me wrong, I liked it much more than I expected. I think Twi fans will be pleased, but movie buffs who haven't read or don't like the books will be nonplussed.

Overall look and mood, great. Kudos CW.

Great acting: Rob, Kris, Billy, Gil, Anna, Mike, Graham, Sheen, Dakota, Peter.

Annoying 92010 style: Ashley and Kellan.

Wolf pack was laughable in the wrong way.

Like many others said: the audience laughed out loud at the E&B flashback in the forest. Cringeworthy.

Script: over the top, but closely followed book. Do they have to talk down to the audience? "paper cut!" anybody?

CGI: underwater nice, in Brazil horrible, wolfs OK.

Costumes great, hair better except major fail for Jasper and Volturi men.

Make-up: Rob's again overdone, along with Volturi.

Editing: confusing. Why start in Italy?

Missing scenes that were needed: Charlie taking it to Edward. Edward truly apologizing and winning her back.

Pleasant surprises: all the humor that worked! It's easier to pick at the things that bother you than remember all the good, and there many more good things in the movie than the critics are giving CW credit for. In fact, I think most are bashing the constraints (plot points) imposed by the book itself, and not the film.

Loisada said...

And Brie: I agree, the score was extremely sappy and annoying at times, though I like many of the song selections.

solas said...

I thought the movie was near perfect. I am not sure that people who have not read the books would appreciate it. I saw it on Friday morning and the theatre was packed, as were 3 other theatres for New MOon in that complex, and it was all adults and not just women-- many if not most women were with boyfriends or husbands, and there were some groups of women. A few women who might have been in their 30s or 40s were there with their mothers, who seemed to be in the 60s or 70s!!! As far as I could tell, I was the only one who came in alone! thank G-d, no one screamed. I agree about Harry's heart attack etc-- much better done than in the book, and the audience did laugh at Alice's vision of Bella and Edward prancing into eternity as if they were in a perfume commercial.
I have read comments on movie sites and movie ticket sites, as well as by movie critics about the lack of acting abilities, and I don't get it. I know I am not sophisticated as far as films go, but I was totally taken and touched by the performances, especially Kristen's, who was spot on as far as the book describing her character, Taylor was believable, and of course ROb was brilliant, but I would have liked to have seen his arc more complete. It would not have hurt audiences to have another 15 minutes, yet if we had seen his working on explaining himself, his loss of will to exist, his torture of causing her pain, et al, it would have made the film closer to perfection.

RPLover said...

ok, have now seen it...and there are some things that I didn't exactly agree with or irritated me a little, but overall I have to say I really liked it! I think it's definately better than Twilight and a lot of things that I really wanted to see, I did.

I thought the Jacob/Paul wolf fight was really exciting, and I was happy that there was some humor in it, because there was in the book and you need that to balance all the angst.

Although I think he needs to be a little rougher around the edges and sarcastic, I was surprised and impressed with Taylor. I wasn't expecting to enjoy his performance that much!

And I think Rob played it just right, obviously he was limited in New Moon, but I thought that when he was there, he was THERE, you know? He was really giving it his all and I believed him-I especially liked the addition of the Edward/Jacob phone call scene, we didn't see him reacting to that in the book and it was a good addition.

The stuff that bugged me was minimal and picky for the most part, none of it ruined anything for me, but still...

I did think that Kristen gave a good performance, and I'm sure it's really difficult and draining to portray someone who's really depressed, but I thought I would feel it more than I did. Don't really know what she could have done differently, but I just didn't feel sad enough for some reason.

I loved the colors and the red eyes, especially Jane's, were really well done! I do wish that they had paid a little more attention to the signifigance of the changing colors, though. I don't remember any of them with black eyes, and this is an important detail. When Laraunt goes to kill Bella, his eyes should turn black-I know they needed to be red so she would understand that he was still a "carnivore", but he should have been hungry before he went to kill her. Also, in Volterra, Edward's eyes should definately be black, he's been secluding himself and denying himself any comfort because of his guilt and depression. He hasn't fed in a really long time, and his eyes in the book were pure black.

One other thing and then I'll end this monster comment! :) I was dissapointed with Alice's vision of vampire Bella-as others have said, everyone laughed, and that was because it was cheesy. They could have made that a really cool moment, showing a red-eyed (because newborns have red eyes) gorgeous glittery vamp Bella, all they would have had to do would be a close-up slow mo pan of her face with closed eyes, slowly she opens her eyes and they're deep scary red-you know? And instead she and Edward are frolicking along, you don't even see her eyes, she just sparkles a tiny bit and it comes off as kind of silly.

very few points that irked me a tad, but like I said, overall a win! I really want to see it again, I doubt I'll get back to the theater but I'll be waiting on the dvd! If you're still reading this far, then thanks for listening! LOL

ADM, I was hoping I would find you here! :)

what did you think of the end scene? I'm feeling a little torn...

Very torn, too. Would have liked to see more conversation to go with the proposal. Show me the love!

Maybe they should have ended with Victoria again. With all the Italy stuff you kind of forget she will be back.

RPLover said...

I agree with you about the Jacob/Bella scenes-they needed to be playful with each other and they were...I just wish he was a little less precise with how he speaks, I "heard" Jacob as rougher, more blunt and sarcastic than Taylor made it. Got to give it to him, though, he did do more than just work out for this role! Although I still maintain that the shirt strip was more Chippendale's than concern for a bleeding friend. LOL

RPLover said...

yeah, they didn't mention her again at all, did they? I get that it was supposed to be a cliff-hanger, but it seemed TOO blunt for me, we know that she's opposed to marriage, but if you didn't already know that you wouldn't have picked up on it, and I think it's an important point!

Angie said...

Yeah, I did not get the whole shirt off scene in the book either. Stephenie Meyeris a tease. The life Jacob lives, you are right, he should be a little more ruff around the edges. But overall Taylor did a great job.

I liked KS's performance better than Twilight. But not as much as I would like.

Rob does restaint well. You can tell the difference in his performance from the RM trailer.

Angie said...

In both movie's the conversations between Edward and Bella are things that are missed the most. I don't know why they could not see that those conversations were important and the heart of the stories. The reason the characters are so loved.

RPLover said...

oh, definately! he doesn't just play different versions of himself in different things, he totally becomes the character! Tyler and Edward are from totally different worlds, it's almost like it's not the same guy playing them.

SM did a Q&A with fans on her website, and she was talking about her first reaction to seeing Rob play Edward. Not word for word, but she said he didn't look like her vision of Edward, and then CH said action and when Rob got into character her jaw dropped. She said that he embodies Edward so much at times he looks just like how she pictured him. This guy is talented!! :)

Angie said...

yeah, we need a little more talking! got some in the waking up bedroom scene, but there needed to be more. And for sure at the proposal.

I still say CW for BD, though! Imagine what he could bring to the story if he got even more involved with it! you were right, visually it's beautiful!

RPLover said...

I got my HTB dvd yesterday-yay! haven't had a chance to watch it yet, though.

he expected there to be more action-he hasn't read the books and thought there was going to be a showdown between all the wolves and the vamps. I said, if you want action, just wait for Eclipse! :)

Angie said...

Yeah, CW reads what the fans say too. He might take some of the concerns to heart, should he do BD. Learn from his mistakes. Not that there are many.

Angie said...

Eclipse is where the action is. I am worried that it will be a blood bath with DS. Rob said he took it to a darker place. I know the story requires it but there are some very important fluffy moments and the all important tent scene.

I am sorry that they did not show the trailer. Let me tell you we will all be dead after seeing that movie on the big screen. Robler looks GOOD on the big screen.

I can't stop thinking about the movie and want to see it again ASAP. My husband will think I'm nutty.

In the scene where Bella's head is bleeding some lady, who obviously saw the movie before, yelled out "take it off Jacob!" and everyone laughed. Also a lot of laughter when Taylor said "don't get me upset" and Bella was forseen as a vampire.

I watched everything I could get my hands on, and just like you I wish I hadn't. I'm really looking forward to this, it should really shut his critics up, IMO!

was it even better the second time?

RPLover said...

ADM, hell yes on the entrance! and he said that it was really awkward to shoot-well, it sure didn't look like it! HOT! definately had to hide my reaction to that. LOL

I think for me, the movies are always going to be a little disappointing, because deep down what I really want to see is every E/B moment and thought translated onto the screen. But that’s not really a legitimate complaint. Overall, I LOVE the casting, and I can let go of the small things (the choppy, rushed feeling; Edward not having black eyes in Italy, etc) but what is really unforgivable is the dialogue. Yes, there are a few really good lines, but WAY too many cringeworthy moments. For me, the main problem with both movies has been the god-awful scripts. Seriously, I could write better dialogue in my sleep. It is epically bad sometimes, and it doesn’t need to be. There are more than enough great lines in the book, but they inexplicably choose to replace them with gems like this exchange at the clock tower: “You’re alive.” (long pause) “Yes.” (long pause) “I’m alive”. Really, Melissa Rosenberg?? You though that sounded better than “After all the thousand times I’ve told you I love you, how could you let one word break your faith in me?". The wolf pack dialogue sounded like it was written by a 6 year old. And even when they lifted lines right from the script, they managed to screw them up. The line about Edward breaking Charlie’s rule by coming in the window was completely backwards. There is no excuse for such sloppy writing at this level. Please, take some of the money this movie brings in, and hire a decent screenwriter. Maybe we can still save Breaking Dawn.

LMAO @ RPL

Good points Amethyst.

Can someone post what song was playing during Edward's "entrance" (after he parks his volvo). And for that matter has someone listed all the songs and what scenes they are in? Thanks!

I enjoyed it the 2nd time just as much! I was able to focus on more details instead of being concerned about what was going to happen next and what they put in the movie. Does that make sense?

Everyone laughed again during the vampire frolicking but I was expecting it this time. SO cheesy.

I don't know the sound track well enough to help you PerfectDate. Some one may come along to help. :)

OK I have to put in my thoughts. I saw this movie twice so far and am going again tomorrow. The first time I saw it was in Florida on Friday mid day with a friend of mine and the theater reaction was great. Claps at the end of the movie, gasps on the phone call scene, and laughs in all of the right parts.

I then proceed to come to North Carolina for the holiday and see the movie at 5pm on Saturday. Audience annoyed me. Laughing on the bambi/I mean Bella is a vamp scene I understand but there weren't as many reactions. Lots of love for Jacob not as much for Edward.

I do agree that there were too many teasers for this movie so some of the things that were shocking at first were not so shocking in the theatre because you expected them.

Things I loved. I think Taylor, Kristen and Rob all did a great job. Human actors were all great.
I liked when Edward knelt by Bellas bead and asked for forgiveness I really felt it, I also liked when she told taylor it will always be him. Alice was great and cracked me up. Aro was great.

Things I didn't like - I didn't like some of the editing. No plane ride home???? I thought that was important the conversations they had on the plane I clearly remember. Also, I wanted the dialogue between Edward and Charlie when Bella comes home. Obviously didn't like the bella vamp scene. I agree that panning in on her closed eyes and then she opens to red would have been good. No victoria, reference at the end? Some of the wolfpack stuff was cheesy.

All in all it was better than twilight and makes me eagerly await eclipse.

I am surprised i have to agree with Marenostrum on many negative points about movie because the trailer looked so impressive. It is not all that bad. But there are too many disappointing pieces.

First, do they have to make Rob's lips that red and skin that cakey white? It looks weird and ugly even though the hair is better. Edward looks way better in the Italy scenes cause it doesn't have the crazy red lips. Also why do they have to use the slow motion for Edward entrance? It is so cheesy and B-level movie like.

The most important thing is that the love story between Edward and Bella was not developed at all. I mean you have to show how much Edward loves Bella and how irresistible he is, which is the most important premises for the whole story. The bright red lips and cakey face with a lot anger just don't do it. Everything is so rushed. It is a shame.

And the music. I didn't like the Twlight movie that much. But the music in the first movie was very impressive and special that showcased the soul of the movie. But the music in NM is just forgettable and almost doesn't fit in.

The only part i enjoyed is the Italy scenes although it should be a little longer.

I am sorry but overall it is not a satisfying experience.

Angie said...

I am glad to hear that Emily. I will go again.

Yeah, that scene is cheesy. In what life time would Edward wear that and why is Bella dressed like a 6 year old?

Emily said...

I agree with Amethyst about some of the lines. Especially at the end, I wish they would have said what was in the book, word for word. Who cares if it adds another half hour to the movie? It is written so beautifully in the book, in my opinion. That could have been done better.

Unknown said...

In general I liked the movie, but I felt many of the scenes were rushed and didn't flow right. I think I said this elsewhere on a different thread, but if felt like someone was sitting in the editing room with a check-list of scenes from the book that they wanted to get into the film and checking them off as they went along. Seemed very choppy. Should have lengthened the movie if need be. I thought the special effects were good. But didn't feel the chemistry between any of the characters like I did in Twilight. Say what you want about Catherine Hardwick, but she got the feel and essence of the book in her film.

RPLover said...

I agree with you Amethyst-there is more passion with SM's words than with MR's in a lot of instances. Maybe they're just trying to let the actions speak louder? But it doesn't always work...sometimes we just need to hear it...out loud... ;))

I thought that the funny lines were good, though! Bella's classmates don't play a very big part, but I like that they were funny-especially Mike.

Emily said...

LOL ADM! Yeah, I like when the zoom in on her eyes and she sort of looks behind herself at Edward but really, it was a little Sound of Music for me.

Emily said...

RPL - I know! Poor Mike...I couldn't stop laughing at how he looks when he comes out of the bathroom.

Angie said...

Yes, I loved the humor. I did not expect it. It was very refreshing.

RPLover said...

Emily-Sound of Music! you've hit it exactly, LOL! I knew I'd seen those "play clothes" somewhere before... hahaha

Angie said...

LMAO @ The Sound of Music!

Too true, why...oh why?

RPLover said...

whew, we're getting scroll-licious again! :)

maybe I should try and drag one of my friends to it so I can get that second viewing in-she really liked the books but has mocked me for my Twilight flair on Facebook. ;)

Emily said...

Tonight I went with my mom, aunt, and sister in law. My aunt said she doesn't squeal or scream in movies but sometimes she moans. LOL!! I told her to get ready because there are scenes that are definitely moan-worthy.

Emily said...

RPL - You should just go by yourself. I went yesterday for the first time alone and I loved it!

RPLover said...

moan-worthy for sure! hahaha

Emily, did they show the RM trailer when you went? I was all ready for it and then they didn't show it-fail!

Angie said...

RPL, I have one friend that is interested in Twilight. She has not finished the books. Slow reader. I have no one else I trust to share this with. Except you guys. LOL

Angie said...

I went alone, no distractions, it was nice.

Emily said...

They showed it when I went yesterday. It was the first preview and I wasn't expecting it at all. All the sudden I hear Rob's voice and I about had a stroke.

No luck tonight. I was bummed. That's part of the reason I wanted to see it again!

cher said...

Rob appears so intelligent and honest all the time. He said the movie is amazing. After seeing the movie, i am surprised he said that even for promotion sake.
I'd rather watch Rob's interviews that offer so much more fun and soul to enjoy.
Here is a spot on review (at least to me. )

Crap Emily, I hope that show the trailer when I go the second time.

RPLover said...

ADM-I'm in the same boat! I'm alone in my house, if my daughter was older I'm sure we would be in cahoots but she's only 2. LOL that's why I love hanging out with you girls. <3

I just checked the times it's showing and they've got a 9:40 show daily, that's way after my DD is asleep so maybe I'll try and sneak out by myself one of these nights, I really would like to see it without distractions.

Emily said...

Yeah, I was mad. Maybe they show different previews for matinees than for night time shows because they think there is a different crowd.

Emily said...

Do it RPL!! You'll love seeing it alone.

Ugh, I hate to do this but I better call it a night. My kids decided they didn't need to sleep last night so I'm running on about 4 hours of sleep. My Rob high is fading...

It's always a pleasure ladies! Hope to chat again soon!

Angie said...

RPL, I love going alone. When I take my mother she is always saying "what did they say?" then I miss the next line.

No distractions is nice. The big problem with theaters is ...no rewind.

RPLover said...

LMAO Emily, I can only imagine your reaction when you heard "Gandhi said..."

maybe they'll show it the second time for me! I've really gotten myself talked into going again now.

Angie said...

Good night Emily.

I really need to get to bed too. So I will say good night to you as well RPL.

It has been fun! Chat soon.

RPLover said...

Night Emily! Get some sleep. glad we got to chat! :))

RPLover said...

night, ADM-sweet Rob dreams! glad I caught up with you, talk again soon!

Marna said...

I went alone, & I'll probably go alone when I see it for the 2nd time. It's more distraction free that way, also, you don't have to share your popcorn :-)

I think I need to see it again just so I can actually SEE it instead of waiting to watch it if that makes sense. I think because I've read the book & knew what was coming, I spent a lot of the time waiting to see if the next scene was what I thought it would be. I need to be able to just watch & absorb instead of analyzing.

AP said...

@Cheer: I followed your link and that was one of the nastiest takes on Rob as an actor, and by an uninformed blogger. I thought at least it would be a 'fan' perspective, even if critical. Gak! Well, I guess I walked into that one...Silly idiot I was.

stephxlee I loved that scene too...I know it wasn't faithful to the book but I thought it was well done.

drabrasil said...

ok.. about the editing italy scenes in the beginning.. you have noticed that on the book the first page was a glimpse about bella running to save the life of her lover? that's it!

I waited months to see NM, read and watched every clips there was about it. Even followed Rob to the Dave Lettermen Show. But after i watched NM on the Nov.20, at 12:15 p.m. here in NYC, i was not satisfied and happy with it. I don't know why?

Was it the long publicity and trailer that started from it's debut on MTV award night? I've seen all the pivotal scenes and it spoiled my appetite. There were no more surprises for me.

I did not feel the emotions between B/E scenes like i did in Twilight. I thought their scenes were hurriedly done. The kisses were passionless. They shouldn't have kissed at all. It will keep the thrill going.

The werewolves and the Volturis were the main attractions of this movie. But they failed to really scare me. The volturis looked like jesters and the dialogue somewhat a school play. I thought Cam Gigandet is the scariest villain (vamp) I can't get him out of my mind even until now.
I tried to watch the movie all over again but I was so bored by the thought of it. Sorry, the Twi-saga stops here with me.

twilight said...

Yeah, I had a chance to watch it again for free, and I just didn't want to waste my time. It was embarrassing to watch the first time and boring as heck. I didn't believe any of the chemistry at all and I'm not going to convince myself by watching it a second time.

The scene when they're kissing outside the truck. What the hell? Totally overdone, like they're hurting each other. Whereas in the first movie, Hardwick did a much better job of making making Rob's difficulty subtle when he kisses Bella in the bedroom: first the slight wince of pain on his face, then super passionate, then he yanks himself away -- much better done.

What I want to know: Who is Chris Weitz? Someone's cousin? BAD BAD BAD director. I think it's his fault and Melissa Rosenberg's. Since when should a professional dancer be given the job of script writer? That's what I want to know. Only in Hollywood. What a joke. What a shame. The responses in my theater pretty much say it all. I have never seen that many people laugh at scenes that were supposed to be serious. And Rob's little lame image that floats away with the wind -- how much more lame could that be? People in my theater laughed at that too. Joke! Joke! Joke! I want my money back! I'm so annoyed. I was so excited about this movie and it's so terrible.

Before my review I just want to say that I think they showed too many things in the trailer. The birthday paper cut/ the shirtless Rob & Taylor/ the WEREWOLF REVEAL/ the fights would of all be so much better if we didn't see it in the trailers!

Overall it was good and really a love story before anything else.

I agree Erick's youtube review, He was dead on about the pacing if the movie.

1. The break up scene was a FAIL!!!!!!! Bella had more emotions when she was in the rain scene with jacob. That jacob "break up" was much better specially the way she said " But you are my best friend" . She looked like she was fighting for the relationship.

2. The Oct/Nov/Dec Scene was brilliant. made me cry

3. The " don't make me choose" in the end was sad as well

4. Mike and Jessica and Jasper were awesome. Eric crying was funny.

5. Sparkle was a little better.

6. Jacob did an amazing job !!!!!! He really pulled you to his side. Well done.

7. The pizza throwing thing needed to be cut.

8. The PACING WAS THE KILLER IN THIS MOVIE SOME PARTS NEEDED TO BE SHORTEN AND OTHERS NEEDED TO BE MORE!

9. The Forest Scene with Victoria was beautiful.

10. My least fav Scene was the Alice Flash Forward. ok IF IT WAS A FLASH TO THE FUTURE WHY THE HELL WERE EDWARD AND BELLA DRESSED LIKE THEY WERE IN THE MOVIE "TUCK EVERLASTING"? The running in the forest dressed in vintage clothing made no sense for them to be in the future. Also it was kinda cheesy that people start laughing.

I thought the ending was just right!!!

Amanda Renee said...

Okay...I have to ask this because I loaned my 4 book set to a friend and I can't double check it for myself.

The very last line in the movie (don't want to post it since it is a total spoiler) but didn't that last line happen in the end of the Eclipse book????

wonderwoman said...

So many things I liked about the movie & so many things I didn't but overall happy to have it and I will watch it too many ties to mention I am sure. Some folks mentioned it already but I am one f those who is in disbelief that those in charge used up time for things like the theater scene & Mike dialogue instead of using those extra minutes for some of the amazing stuff in the books that should have been in the film. Have no idea why they made Jacob rough up Mike with the lame line "Maybe you you should go to the hospital...grrrr." I loved the book scene where he drove off after their "I will never leave you" conversation just feeling weird but still our happy Jacob.

So I know as everyone says you can't put everything in a movie that is in the book but WHY CHANGE things to make them dumbed down/lame? (Like the cafe scenes in Twilight with lame conversations with waitresses when Bella cooks at home & there are great bonding scenes in the kitchen with Charlie in the book?) Why????

wonderwoman said...

Looking at some of the comments is hard because it reminds me of other things I thought were 'meh'...I will be the first to admit it is soooo much easier to pick out bad stuff (and believe it or not despite all my comments I actually loved the movie the second time I saw it). A few other things I keep mulling over is that I LOVED Bella & Charlie in the books, I can't stand the tv shows now where the parents are completely absent in the lives & antics of 16 &17 yr olds...I loved the Charlie being mad and protective and taking his daughter (and the boy involved) to task for being gone for 3 days? Um yeah, what parent wouldn't?..they cut that entire powerful scene out of the movie which is so odd to me...and replaced it with "if you do that again you are grounded...like forever." They say a vampire/werewolf love triangle is a fantasy...so is a parent responding to a teen being gone 3 days with a joke! I just missed the emotional relationships that could have been included.
