No Robert Pattinson on SNL... not this season anyway.

Will he? Won't he? For now the answer seems to be no... I hope it'll happen one day, his British wit and sarcasm is desperately needed on Saturday Night Live.

ADDED NOTE: So we could blame it on the late hour I posted this, or alcohol left over from NYE... but I prefer to blame it on that image down there staring back at me while creating this post. But, although the source posted this article just yesterday, it is in fact a VERY old article. If I'd managed to get past the picture to read the last paragraph, I may just have realized that! Now please continue drooling, I mean looking, at the picture and all will be OK.

Pattinson’s fans to have him hosting “Saturday Night Live” this season, meets a dead end. It was reported over the weekend that more than 5,000 fans of the “Twilight” star signed an online petition in a bid to see their idol gracing the sketch show on NBC.

OK! Magazine reported that Executive Producer Lorne Michaels has lined up the hosts of this season and thus has no room left for Pattinson. “We’re all locked in with hosts for this year,” he said. “Not this season.” When asked whether they would eventually invite the heartthrob, Michaels said, “Yeah, yeah, of course. You never know.”

Some stars within “SNL” hosting schedule this season include Zac Efron, Justin Timberlake and frequent contributor, Will Ferrell. The 34th season will wind down in May but there has been no words of the 35th season yet.

Robert Pattinson has been a popular stock since starring as the vampire Edward Cullen in “Twilight”. He will reprise the role in the sequel “The Twilight Saga’s New Moon” and has shot several scenes in Vancouver, Canada starting last month.

I have such mixed feelings on this... he is so incredibly funny... but some of the skits are just so embarrassing... and not funny.. I would hate to see him get locked into crap...

But he's so great, he might be able to pull it off.. He's so shy though, I don't know....

Side tangent---anyone read EW's latest? Up in the Air on the cover---GREAT article. Not a huge GC fangirl, but the man IS def attractive. Anna's part aside, it's a very interesting perspective on what Rob may be like in say 15-20 years. And of course, they do mention NM, more than once. GC has class, IMO, aside from the whoredom condemnation of PR duties---my words, not his. Love the last line of the interview, he's "Team Anna" (when asked, duh, Team Edward or Team Jacob?".)

Kat!!!

I'm breaking my Robsessed Kat posting cherry!!!

I'm so excited...what the fuck are we talking about?

Oh yeah! SNL....I'd love to see him do it...but at the same time I don't want another bomb like Tay Tay or James Franco...that was just painful!

Heidi said...

That has to one of his best pics...those eyes, WOW...seriously, he could make my grandma's toes curl, LOL.

I think he could hold his own on SNL now. He seems to be much more confident in the interviews he done recently.

Jaime said...

I think this article is actually from last year as SNL is now its 35th season and I remember reading that quote from Lorne Michaels last spring. I read somewhere more recently that they tried to book him this season but he couldn't with his schedule.

While I would love to see him host SNL, it's my personal belief that he probably doesn't want to. We all know how self-deprecating and shy he is, I feel like this is something he would probably be uncomfortable with and think he wouldn't be any good at, even if we all know he would be great.

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

Honestly, I think Kristen would rock it out of the house---hosting SNL.

I'm not a huge SNL fan, but my guys are and given the "raw-nest" of the humor? Definitely Kristen. Hell, Rob and Kristen would absolutely KILL in the ratings if they hosted it together. I'd actually watch.

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

Shh, Gwen's had wine! She knows better than to mention R&K in the same sentence, let alone posting.

Bad Gwen, bad.

Treasure_7 said...

If Rob or Kristen together or apart hosted SNL I would also watch!!

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Gwen,
lol... I think it's safe to say "them" in the same sentence now, as long as the crazies aren't around.. If they show up, you better duck & cover!

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

OMG, RPG! I was thinking the same thing! Duck and cover---ooh, look, there's some nice, safe ff to read!

: ) Gwen is scared of the crazy ones!

RPLover said...

evening, NB's! LOL, RPG, we're not in the Zone tonight, are we? ;))

like you I'm torn about the SNL thing...it could be good or we could just cringe the entire time. And I don't know if it's Rob's kind of thing.

Angie said...

Hey, didn't he say in a recent interview that he did not want to host, he would rather write?

Angie said...

I want him to write and host. You know anything he would write would be better than the crap they write on the show.

Of course, he rarely takes career advice from me. ;)

Emily said...

He could hold his own for sure but I'm still more for him writing an episode than hosting.

This is one of my all time favorite Rob interviews. Around the 5:00 mark, they tell him about the petition to have him host SNL. He looks thrilled...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru-tXUle9OM

RPLover said...

LOL, Emily!

I agree, I think he could definately improve the writing but can you picture him in a skit? I'm just not sure I can see it...

Emily said...

No I can't. I can't see him standing delivering scripted lines and jokes. Yes, I know he's an actor. lol You know what I mean. His best moments in interviews are when he says the first thing that pops into his head.

I thought Taylor was awesome though.

LM said...

Yeah, he said he would rather write than host SLN. And yeah again, he curls this grandma's toes. It's in the eyes. Something super natural.

Confused husband says calendars (note the plural) have to come down. CH doesn't like going into the kitchen and seeing Rob watching him. But I do, and who is in the kitchen the most? Right.

justcurious said...

as much as i would love to see rob in anything to be quite honest. snl would scare me he is so shy and always so worried what people are thinking about him. he does seem to have quick wit which would help, but he faults himself for everything and if it did not go well he does not need to feel any worse about himself. selfishly i want to see him on it

RPLover said...

Emily, that's exactly it...he's funny and completely charming (duh ;) ) when he's going off the cuff, but I can't see him reading lines from cue cards, and especially if the lines are the same lame ones that they've been writing the past couple of years!

I agree, though, Taylor did a good job. and there's nobody on SNL like Justin Timberlake-he ALWAYS rocks it! :)

Emily said...

Laurie - I like the way you think! LOL

When Taylor hosted, it was the first time I watched SNL in years. It does seem to have gone downhill. But I gotta say, that last skit in the biology class where Taylor had the Team Edward shirt on had me laughing long after it ended. He was brilliant.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Lol Rplover,
no zones tonight... I think we're safe!!!

I honestly think snl would scare the shit out of him...but look how much nerve it took him to present at the Oscars? He was so new & raw and he did it...he could do anything he set his mind to I'm sure!

RPLover said...

Emily, I didn't watch it as a whole, just clips online, so are you talking about the skit where he's playing a girl and debating the teams with his ex-friend? because that one was frickin' FUNNY. =)

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

Gwen can think of at least 5 skits off the top of her head:
1) spoofing Twi, Carlisle and Edward, ala Brokeback Mtn.
2) spoofing Twi, Edward literally stalking Bella.
3) spoofing NM, jeez, too many to choose! Bad wigs/makeup/contacts; Volturi egos; the werewolves---shedding? Puppy love? LOL.
4) No spoof; the freaking paparazzi stalking Rob and/or Kristen.
5) Economic news; US bailout plan---Rob. Movies, books, press, merchandise, etc. Single-handedly responsible for the recovery of US. New US Coin, Rob. Also receives Knighthood from Q of E---because he's British.
6) spoofing himself; trying to find an acting gig AFTER Edward. When everyone WANTS only Edward...

Hey, Gwen was having fun.

RPLover said...

RPG, you know what? you're totally right. I should (and do, normally!) have more faith in him. If it's something he decided to do, you know he wouldn't do it halfway, it's not his nature.

I should quit being a naysayer! LOL

Emily said...

Yep, that's the one RPL. HILARIOUS

"If those abs are real then the dude who played Jacob deserves an Oscar."

Gwen - Those have definite potential. lol

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

Those were just possible skits for Rob; I could go crazy with the both of them. Shhh. (In case the crazy ones are lurking.)

RPLover said...

geez, Gwen, you should get on the phone to Lorne Michaels right now! haha those are all great ideas.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Lmao Gwen.. maybe you should write the skits!

Yea Taylor did great in that skit, although I thought the rest were bad.. Not his fault, just bad writing!

Kat said...

RPG - I totally hear you. SNL is on a slippery slope to crap at the moment. If the skits lasted a quarter of the time that they actually do, they might just be consistently funny. Sadly they drag them out until you're beating your head against a wall hoping it'll all stop.

After that SNL rant... it scares me a little as to what crap they'd try to have him do if he did host.

No off to stare at Sex Drive Rob some more.

GOROB said...

I wish they would stop with the petitions! They don't work! Rob doesn't like people telling him what to do and I don't think he wants to do and I agree with him! From what I've seen them do to Taylor, I wouldn't want to go on there either!

RPLover said...

so RPG did you say before that there's only 2 months until RM? YAY! I'm more excited for that than I was for NM.

I still haven't gotten to see the trailer on the big screen though.
:(

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Kat,
lmfao! Slippery slope to crap!! Ain't that the truth!!
But if Gwen writes maybe not!

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

SNL's been on for, God, EVER. One of the cool things, back in the day, was that it showcased both the writing and the talent/acting ability of the cast.

I've watched the last few eps, both Tays and (who the hell is Blake Lively?) the latest one. It just seems so "thrown together". VERY IMPROV versus sheer wit/talent. I've been left thinking that they only do it because of the afterparty... Then again, I'm old school SNL---Bill Murray, baby. Legendary.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Rplover,
yes! Well more like 69 days, but close all the same!

I am way excited for this movie, and really anxious to know the rating... R or pg13, ugh!

I bet Rob could write some really funny skits...

RPLover said...

seriously, I know he has his faults just like everyone else does, but between his looks, personality and talent I'd have to say God must have been feeling pretty inspired the day Rob was created!

=)

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

RPG, re RM---I'm thinking definitely R, based on the trailers we've seen. Those sexy scenes aren't all that tame---and without spoiling anyone---Summit's not going to want kiddies at this movie. (Yes, Gwen has read the script.)

Sex, violence, language, mature content. I'm betting "R" rating. PG-13 would be a stretch.

Angie said...

RPG, the Church Lady was great.

RPL, I agree!

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Ahh rpl, that sounds fun... I was always too shy.. I did glee club..and partied...

RPLover said...

RPG, "well isn't that special?" LMAO yeah, that was Dana Carvey.

ADM, well, the audience liked it but we're pretty small town around here, I don't think I would have won any contests! hahaha

I used to do improve in school for Speech, too-I wasn't that great but I loved it, it was always such an adrenaline rush! wow, I haven't thought about that for a long time.

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

: ( Re, Skit 7) Rob uses his panty-melting powers for evil, not good. And we all die happy. ; )

Maybe it got lost---or only I found it funny. But, picture THAT STARE on our Rob-licious. Now, for SNL Skit 7, he's uber-Manwhore Rob, out to outbang, say, our fav Ed Wallbanger. Every man-pig joke in the book---only, it's ROB, so we can't help but let him have his wicked way with the entire female population. The world is doomed.

Gwen swears---one glass of wine only tonight! ; )

Angie said...

LMAO @ Gwen!

That is a skit worth seeing.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

If not RM then surely Bel Ami! I mean come on.. He's going to fuck just about every female in the movie... Can't do that with clothes on!

Angie said...

RPG, let's hope to hell not!

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

Re, RM. It would be totally acceptable for Rob's bare "arse" to appear onscreen for more than five minutes.

Full frontal would be completely fine too. ; ) Go NBs!

Shirtless goes without saying.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Lmao Gwen! He could do a skit where every stare a woman gets pregnant!!!

LeslieHeartsRob said...

(puts hands over eyes)

Okay, I think I`m alright now...just don`t let me look back up!! The Sex Drive pics have a special place in my heart cause they were some of the first pics I found of him that weren`t Twilight related. And then the Robsession really started!! How could it not! He looked so fuckhawt at that premier!!!

Angie said...

Hey Gwen, there is a petition in the making! LOL

RPG, good idea.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Was it Ellen that asked if he'd due a nude scene? He said he would I belive, which tells me he's not that nude in RM..

But he was nude in little ashes.. so why not???

Angie said...

RPG, I don't think he thought any one would see LA. Now everyone in the world is looking. LOL

RPLover said...

I love the "knocked up" skit idea! we all say it all the time, anyway. ;))

How can his eyes be so darn freaking SEXY???

LeslieHeartsRob said...

LMFAO @ Gwen!!

I selflessly volunteer to be an extra in that skit...and if there needs to be extra rehersals...I guess that would be okay...;)

And if there is just half the sex in Bel Ami as there is in the book...............I`m gonna die, in the theatre...I`m just sayin`.

Angie said...

I feel sorry for the poor guy that has to hose down the theater after we all see RM and Bel Ami. LMAO

LeslieHeartsRob said...

EYELASH PORN!!! LOL ;)

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Seriously Leslie! They'll need to hand out towels in the theater!

I really don't want to see his peen on the big screen though...I'd rather see that, uh, elsewhere...

LM said...

Looking at Rob and peeking in here. But I think I am mostly looking at Rob. The banner, the picture here. Waiting for RM too. Converted a friend to Rob and am taking her to see NM (her first time). I definitely think Rob hosting SNL is a very BAD idea. Remember how awkward he looked when he presented at the Oscars? He just had to say a few lines then, & he looked completely terrified. He would never last through an entire live show. Not to mention the fact that SNL hasn't been funny in a very long time. I tried to watch when Taylor was on, but ended up just turning it off. I was not amused at all. Oh for the days of Steve Martin & King Tut. I can still watch that & laugh.

Well, about 12 hours ago I wrote a resolution to not spend as much time here and get back to real life more and to say BYE to Rob for a while cause my RL was being effected too much by my robsession! Hello I'm femroc and I'm a robaholic!! I need a 12 step program.

Had full intention to stay away so I went to see Up in the Air which started at 4:15 (and New Moon started at 4:30)...... i got my ticket for Up/Air and was walking down the hall at 4:18 going which way do I go.......U/A or NM again.......walked in U/A and it was packed so I went to NM and there were just a few seats left so I broke my resolution and saw it again by myself. Then as I was leaving I heard some girls behind me talking about Rachel and "didn't she get replaced" and I chimed into their conversation explaining what had happened and we ended up getting coffee and talking for hours about it!!!!!!! Can you believe?
And we heard a table beside us talking about it with little boys and a mom ------it was so hilarious------the boys were saying "that old vampire was wanting to kill that Edward guy in the red robe.....that was cool when that tall guy threw him around" ---- we just laughed our asses off. These girls were not near my age but we sure had fun.

Then I come here again and see my favorite subject - Rob on SNL.

LOvE the skit ideas Gwen - very clever - and I have a few other ideas"

1. Kristen hosts it and Rob makes a surprise guest appearance on one skit as a guy who is stalking her.
2. Kristen hosts it and Rob is the MUSICAL guest!!!! THAT would rock.
3. A skit with Rob trying to act scary with his hair in an oversized bouffant and his eye brows over sculpted and overly white makeup on while playing baseball.
4. A skit with Rob being Art, Dale, Joby, Edward, Tyler, Salvador and Georges all in one sequence. We'd be the only ones to "get" that.
5. A sad 6 pack skit with all the guys - but Rob's "sparkles" - so he wins.
6. While Rob is giving the Monolog talking about how wild his life has been, Andy says "isn't there something you'd like to give back to your fans?" Then ......cue music.......Dick in a Box Part II is revived!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just in time for Valentine's Day gifts.

Ok - so I won't quit my day job.

Sorry Rob - I just can't stay away from you, "you're like a drug to me" -
thanks Jc, rpattzgirl, and all you funny NB's.

i'm kind of glad that he's not doing snl yet. snl's gone way downhill since i was about 11.

though...he WOULD be the only reason that i would tune in.

i think that he'd surprise us and be great if he ever chose to go on the show! but i still don't think that he should do it. snl sucks. and overexposure is unattractive. i nearly gag every time a new list or poll comes out. awards shows,etc... people will get sick of him and then he'll be done. and i want him around for a long time.

what would be cool is if he did an american comedy or something. he needs more male support. *shrugs*

Karina said...

It's so obvious Robert was meant to host the episode that taylor did-that he would have been their first choice.

I don't think Robert took up the offer though, and it went to taylor by default.

Unknown said...

The live aspect could be dicey for Robert. He's the same guy who Catherine Hardwicke said couldn't even get through a line half the tiem without stopping and complaining he didn't deliver it right. lol She said she constantly had to coax him into just going for it, and not being so overly judgemental on his delivery.

Robert's funny as hell and would do great with the skits I think. The problem is the "live" factor and maybe him not being able to just let it go the way Taylor seems to be able to do.

Purely speculation, but my guess.

Unknown said...

femroc-everyone deserves a little diversion in the day. lol Some people like to do creative memories. Or play online poker. We ladies happen to like looking at pictures of a pretty boy.

MatildalovesRob said...

It's obvious that SNL did ask him last season but he declined (kinda glad he did because the Taylor skits were just plain cringy ) and as someone said, Taylor got to host by default as a result.
I'm REALLY confused as to why Twilight fans would sign this, did they REALLY think tht SNL would choose Taylor over Rob as first choice in the first place ? LOL !

Ciara said...

um not to sound like a meanie or anything but maybe Rob wont want to host SNL. I've seen some sketches and I dont really get the funny in them...could be a transatlantic delay tho lol. I don't see it happening to be honest. Unless maybe he can host with Kristen or another future costar. Do they ever have two hosts on SNL?

Honestly, can we believe they "didn't have room for Rob Pattinson"? More likely they offered him and he refused.

Thinking of this from a business perspective, the ratings for SNL with Rob hosting would go off the charts! It was Rob who probably didn't have time to do the show. Also, he would need to toughen up a bit and rely on that fantastic British humor to get him through it. Out of the 3 of them, R, K, T, Taylor is the tougher of the 3. Not sure if I can even see Rob doing SNL.

I agree with the main sentiment here - I wouldn't have said this a year ago - but Rob is just too big right now to do SNL, no disrespect to some of the great entertainers who have done it, but as someone said, he is just a different type of actor altogether, it just wouldn't fit.

As much as it pains me to say it, SNL has truly gone down the tubes in terms of consistency, and it would be embarrasing for me to see him on there. I mean, can you see Kristen doing SNL at this point? Enuff said. Then again, if the two of them hosted, it would single-handedly launch SNL into the relevant stratosphere once again. :)

Good call on his/his management's choice to opt out...producing or writing maybe, acting, no.

Sorry, I vote "No".

Is it a badge of versatility and popularity for a celebrity to be on SNL? Does it mean he/she has "arrived"? Does appearance on SNL help (promote) the celebrity (and his/her projects)? [We all know, Rob’s appearance helps the ratings of any show/event.]

If Rob chose not to go on the show, would his fans think that he is thumbing his nose at SNL?
I think, Rob's comedic style is not for the current SNL.
I wish there were shows similar to some of what Hugh Laurie did.
(Ugh, YouTube has now added commercials in front of some of Hugh's more popular comedic sketches.)

I used to watch SNL…many years ago…
Every now and then I watch it…..but the random episodes I have seen [most recent was that of Taylor's], I thought, were so "forced", not at all funny. I guess for some people, having the guest celebrity don a "get up" for a skit is already funny. And the more embarrassing the situation/sketch/skit is, the better, because it shows the celebrity is "game"(?).

Even if they allowed Rob to write his own script/sketch/skit, his appearance may fall in an episode that is overall "blah". (I think the current SNL is not as funny/ hilarious as the SNL of many years ago.)

Bad for SNL. They play always the same jokes. I think it isn`t important for Rob.
