Gozde: I love Dreamgirls :) What do you guys think? Is it 1 movie or 2? Stephenie Meyer is the producer will that change anything? I think no it won't since she was probably always the queen bee, she just has more control now which in my opinion is a good thing since I love her to pieces and I LOVED Breaking Dawn. But Stephenie on the off chance that you are reading this: show me some SKIN on Isle Esme and I'll keep loving you forever and ever and ever :)

ok! this is good news but ... 1 or 2 films?!?!!!

yeah that´s the question.. 1 or 2? But I guess 2 ;)

It´s cool that we get an oscar winner but I hoped for Sophia....

I think this is fantastic news! We get an Oscar winning director for BD, and SM will be able to have some, not all, control....

I always thought she wrote a sensual Isle Esme, if they can just capture that, the nerves, Edwards clothes blowing in the wind on that tree branch, Bella looking out the bathroom window.... Shivers....

We do need some skin though, a back, a bare leg or foot...something....I think this is great news!

ShariG said...

You know at this point I am so thrilled that they are actually going to make Breaking Dawn before Rob turns 30 that any director would do. Summit needs to move forward with this and set production dates and make a decision about 1 book or 2. I am so ready for Breaking Dawn.

Anonymous said...

I think maybe the director will get a say in the 1 or 2 films question. Nice that they finally named a director though.

RTP_KJS_Lover said...

*Fingers crossed* for Condon not to screw it up, and for SM's Isle Esme to be as erotic as PG-13 allows...I need to see naked Edward in the water, from the waist up.
I used to want 2 movies, but now I am thinking just one really great movie...allowing Rob and Kristen to be able to move on from Twi.

solas said...

I think they ought to read the comments from here about what to do with breaking Dawn. I am not sure if Eclipse film mentioned or showed the imprinting with little girls as the book did, but if it didn't, then I wish, if Stephanie agrees of course, that they would use a dfferent vehicle for solving several situations re jacob. As i suggested previously, have some kind of short piece where there is a sign for the tribe of the wolfboys becoming guardians or godfathers to young girls, and then have Renesmee have that sign for Jacob. ANd have Jacob bond with a grown or at least teenaged woman, perhaps courtesy of his being a godfather for renesmee. And have Edward and Bella be the strong parents of Renesmee, rather than Jacob eclipsing Edward.

Well I know that this is not a movie I will be seeing in theaters anyway. But I think it's better if it's one movie, because seriously I thought that BD was a complete mess, and there isn't enough material in that book to sustain two movies.

And if SM will produce then we can be sure that it will be very close to the book. So I know now that BD will NOT be Edward or romance focused, because it will be focused on Taycob, Rensemee, and Bella's transformation.

And that is why I am really hoping for just one movie, because I don't want Robert stuck with it for a minute longer than possible. And anyways it might be a blessing that SM made Edward into a supporting character in that messy book, so that Robward will not be affected a lot by the BD movie, because his role will be to a minimum anyway.

So hopefully it will be just one movie, and hopefully Robert will agree to only one movie.

Ana73 said...

Well i am hoping for the best...we all know that SM wont let them tear it apart. I read somewhere (dont remember where) that Melissa Rosenberg already said that some wont like her take on BD, but then she said that some will. Not sure what that means though. I guess we will see. As far as one or two movies, i dont really care as long as we get a great movie. Also, all of them said that they would be up for 1 or 2. They will probably make them back to back so it wont really affect them that much. Just my thought :))

naked edward in the water omg its so yummy

wensdazzled by ThePretty said...

hope this all works-there is so much to get right--i want as much Isle Esme from the book as PG13 allows--naked edward in the water, feathers and bitten headboards--that's not asking too much is it?? LOL

solas said...

Perhaps, since Stephanie was in a rush and under pressure when she wrote BD, she now realizes other possibilities to make it better, and perhaps will allow for those changes in the movie(s)?
I do think the story ould stand alone, and be one film, if they leave out most of the Jacob stuff, certainly the imprinting.

Ana73 said...

I dont see the problem with the imprinting...it was how she wanted her story to be told. a little weird, sure. i really saw jake with leah but oh well i didnt write it. i hope they do include it because it is what SHE wrote. I dont want them to stray too much from the book.

Netra2121 said...

I agree with all of you how SM definitely painted a beautiful picture in the book of the isle of Esme and just the whole honeymoon section. However I have a feeling that they are going to make it into 2 movies especially since this is the last book. Hollywood appears to be out for the money and they know that this franchise is a gold mine. So I think they will try to milk this thing while they can and make 2 movies. But I definitely think that it could be one and like many of you said I am looking forward in a way for it to be over so that Rob can move on and won't always be tagged as the vampire hottie

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

With the imprinting, it did kinda strike me weird at first, but it is an important part of the story. It's how SM reconciles the relationship between Bella, Edward & Jake.
There's nothing sexual about it, and it was her way of keeping Jake in the picture and tying the vampires and the wolves together. It was SM way of allowing Jake to let go of Bella, which was not going to happen unless Bella died. It's an important part of the story even though some may not like it. I think they will minimize it because it won't set well with a lot of people.

Petra Eller said...

I must say again: The new banner is beautiful. I love him.

I think the BD will be a wonderful film that leaves much Phantasie open. Just as in the book. And I'm looking forward to Isle Esme. Naked Edward is a must. also tenderness between Edward and Belle. And everything else is left to our imagination. Condon need only hint at it.( Perhaps, we need a definite hint )LOL
Ladies here we have enough imagination for the rest? Yes we have.

I never paid attention to who directs what until the Twilight films started so I don't think I have an opinion on Bill Condon. Sounds like everyone is excited though so I'm on board!

rpg - ITA! They can't leave out the imprinting issue but they need to be careful about how they portray it. Is it Quil that imprints in Eclipse? I wonder if they touch on that, it will make it easier to accept the Jacob/Nessie thing in BD. I think that's why SM included Quil and Claire beforehand.

And whether it's 1 or 2 movies, I'll see it. Repeatedly. Bring on the nekkid swimming and headboard breaking! Just imagining Rob doing that makes me shiver.

wensdazzled by ThePretty said...

i agree the imprinting is very important and RPG said it much better then i could--

@solas
I agree, the first half of BD is fantastic, the wedding, honeymoon, Bella's pregnancy, and Bella's transformation, after that the book to me was c**p. I hated Jacob imprinting on Renesmee. This seems like a plotline to keep Jacob in the book. The second half of this film I would hope them to show a confrontation between the Volturi army in all it's splendor and the Cullen's and their allies due to Renesmee's birth. The Volturi want Renesemee for her extrordinary gifts and the birth between human and vampire, what an asset for their power base. We know the Volturi have held the power but as in new generations their is a new breed and it can be the struggle for the Volturi to try to hold on to that power. Forget the imprinting, if there is any imprinting, have Jacob imprint on Leah. Poor Leah left out in the cold again.

I hope they can elevate this movie more than the second half of the book, it is the one book that most agree is the weakest of the series and critizied. If not I am voting for a Twilight Saga televison series. They can add all the scenes missing from the books and add backstories.

Don't know much about Bill Condon but Dreamgirls was a terrific movie. Interesting wording in the press release.. "a unique cinematic experience". I wonder what that means?

@solas, interesting idea about maybe SM having a chance to right some of her wrongs. I wonder if she would do that?

BD was such a mish-mash of ideas. It was two books in one really, the original conclusion to Bella's story with Edward, and then the one with Jacob in it tacked on. The perfect BD would be the one without Jacob, and without the appalling birth scene, but that's just wishful thinking. The anticipation of waiting throughout three books for Edward to change Bella in a passionate but deadly embrace was almost too delicious to bear, and when it finally came in a vortex of syringes and panic and amniotic fluid, WITH JACOB THERE, I was stunned beyond belief. I felt betrayed and will never understand SM's decision to do it that way. I thought the whole point of Bella's transformation was that it was going to be a pseudo-sexual romantic event, and birthing, to me, is not sexual. Or romantic. Especially not with a syringe and Jacob present.

Yes to skin, yes to ROMANCE, feathers, bedposts, the wonderful honeymoon, Edward in the water....The feathers scene is written so cinematically it should be a cinch to do. Close up on Bella waking up, the feathers line, pan out to see the wreckage. I can't wait to see it.

solas said...

rpg--exactly--it will NOT set well with people. WE having read the book and fallen into the suspended belief world of Twlight can get through it, but some of us even barely. No matter how much you say it isn't sexual (yet) the fact is, the imprinted girls are the mates for the wolfboys and the WILL be sexually and emotionally mating, and it smacks too much of pediophilia and all other stuff going on the news that nauseaate and anger most of us. It is just too close a concept for comfort.
And it is not neccessary to solve what it resolved (Jacob being mateless, alone without Bella; Jacob defending the Cullens; wolfworld and vampire world -at least Cullen vampire world- forging a new peace together)this way.

NVR2OLD70 said...

At first the idea of a TV show sounded great just to think of Twilight never ending. But then reality hit............there would be no EDWARD..........you don't really think anyone could try and take his place? Nice thought but it wouldn't work.

solas said...

Cerulean,I don't have a problem with the birth at all, as it presented a way (syringe) for Edward (and the rest of the Cullens, by treaty)to be guiltless in changing Bella; she would have died, and Jacob saw that. Also, it shows Jacob giving up, walking away from her. As he had said, 'til your heart stops beating;' Edward did not give up.

I never ever thought of Bella's changing as having a sexual or even semi-sexual intent, but I am strange. Is that the idea you all got from the 3 books? had thougth Bella wanted the change so she could be Edward forever, AFTER the change; the change was simply the way, the process, to get to that pont.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Solas,
I get that, but it was her way of resolving it, so whether it was necessary or not doesn't really matter becuase it's her story, ya know?

It will be interesting to see how they handle this.....

jh said...

Yes I agree, because of the treaty Edward could not change Bella by the usual way. This is one of the convolutions SM got herself into.

jessegirl said...

ShariG...thrilled that they'll do it before Rob turns 30..hilarious..Now if they can just try to make him look younger not older than he is..

rpg...yeah, we need the skin..it's a honeymoon, for heaven's sake. Time for real sex. Broken bed, feathers and all. First time..do not ruin that barely leashed Edward power. We want to see him absolutely strong as the gods.

solas said...

rpg--for sure it was her story, but as I had said previously, she was rushed and pressured with the wrting of BD, and perhaps she sees a different way to resolve things now. She had said this before, I think regarding Twilight, and she liked the opportunity to change things in the film. I hope she realizes now what a potential powder keg this could be, and that there are other ways to resolve what she wanted to, without this specific way.

jessegirl said...

Solas, yeah Nik said it too, the whole imprinting thing was a stretch, a device to keep Jacob part of Bella's 'family'. God help us.
I don't think they'll change it though. Still, the imprinting will be a major thing to do tastefully and not have it come off as pedophilia. They could get major slack for that. Lots of people don't read the books and they'll be like 'what the hell?'.
I think old Steph got herself into a real plot fix with this one.

Jacob eclipsing Edward?
What puerile one-up-manship, or, to put it in lay terms, stop the damn pissing contest. Edward's already won, Jacob. Deal.
Yeah, Steph, YOU had Edward win; deal with it.

jh said...

Perhaps I should not have said "romantic".
The bite of the vampire is inherently sexual (that's why we love them so much) and is a culmination of the total seduction of the victim ("everything about me attracts you"). I know SM's vampires are not your typical vampires in so many ways, but Bella and Edwards relationship is definitely a sexual one.

LeslieHeartsRob said...

I'm glad they've finally announced a director...WHEW!!

Re: imprinting...I wasn't a huge fan but I see the reason why she used that in the book. SM has always said that Jacob was her favorite, so she would have to find a way to keep him relivant and "wrap up" his story. I see where people would think that it is weird and "hinky" but I don't see anything sexual in it when the imprintee is so young...I think that she explained it very well in Eclipse with Quil. But also I get that people who didn't read the books and go see the movie might not fully get it.

I just hope that everything turns out good...for everybody.

jessegirl said...

Ana73...I loved Leah! Great character, and, yeah, if Steph. hadn't been obsessed with Jacob becoming part of the Cullen family that relationship could have been great. Leah could take Jake down a notch or two; god knows, it's time to curb that obnoxious attitude of his.

jessegirl said...

rpg...we get that about reconciling the triangle. But in normal triangles, the third wheel deals. Just deals. God, it is time for Jacob to GROW UP! DEAL, alright already!

Sorry for the caps but the way for the issue to be resolved is with old fashioned maturity--perhaps on Steph's part as much as Jacob's.

solas said...

ITA Jesse!
Leslie--again, this could be my own distsortion from my lines of work (and being a mother, etc), but even though there was nothing sexual AT THE TIME the girsl are young, it is clear that the girls are the wolfboys' mates, and WILL be their sexual mates at a later point. (There are societies, even today unfortunately, where a grown man might pay for the care of/pay dowry price for a girl whose family he likes, or has made a deal with, and will do nothing sexual with that girl until she/time is ripe. But he knows he will eventually.) I personally find that disturbing, disturbed and perverted, and I've READ the books. For anyone who did NOT read the books, it is just too close to disgusting for comfort. It could be MR will have a way of dealing with it, or it will simply not be part of the story, whch I could handle. Or it could be SM herself realizes there is a better way to resolve jacob's situation.

jessegirl said...

Okay, I think everyone can see I'm losing my patience with this issue. Poor plot device, lack of perspective. The only thing it has going for it is the alliance of Cullens and the wolves. Which is key. But that too could be handled differently.

What the heck has Melissa got planned? D*cking us around too.
Guess I'm in a pissy mood.

Just do the Isle Esme thing--WELL!--Edward turning her, even their sex after she's turned (that seems like the best secret for mind-blowing sex since the discovery of the orgasm. Okay, Edward sex.
Yeah, it's on my mind.

Deflecting attention to Jacob is so BORING.

God, there I go with my caps again. I think there'll be a lot of them before BD is done. Bear with me. We need a room to blow off steam as well as a naughty room.

jessegirl said...

Yes, Solas, Bella wanted the change as a way of staying with Edward forever. That's it.
She would have gone with it however it had to be done.
There's nothing sexual about it.
It's torture for--what was it--3 days.

solas said...

Jesse, i agree with the maturity plea on several levels. When I was growing up, I had no birth brothers, and I really wanted big brothers (I had big sisters). There wre 2 boys in a family whom I just loved as brothers and I kept saying I wanted to adopt them, wanted them as family. I just loved these boys. But I did not marry THEIR big brother in order to have them as brothers! I love those boys as brothers, but they are not in my family except as extended tribal family maybe. I dealt with it; I accept they are not related as brothers.
One guy loved one of my big sisters and wanted to marry her, but she chose someone else. The guy she did not choose SHOWED UP AT HER WEDDING and begged her, ebfore the ceremony, that she could still change her mind, that her husband to be wasnt good enough for her, etc. It was scary and gross for all of us, but epscialy my poor sister. How does anyone who loves someone do that to her??? Thank G-d, the guy eventually grew up and found the woman really right for himself. But really, let's not pander and twist things disturbingly to appease immaturity!

solas said...

In case I was confusing--the guy who wanted to marry my sister was not one of the boys I wanted as brothers!

solas said...

Cerelean, I find it interesting that most people think the vampire bite is seduction. For sure, with SM;s vampires, there is the appeal, the draw, but it is like a spider catching something n a web if it gets too close. But I see the drinking of the blood as a nourishment, and it appeals to some underlying female nature to nourish and nurture with one's own body.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

In a perfect world, yeah, grow up, in a fantasy world, not so much....again, it's her book..

jessegirl said...

Solas...
What you said about other cultures and dowries and all that. Yeah. It just seems there's an undercurrent of female subjugation and ownership involved here, no matter how Steph tries to nice it up with Quil playing on the beach with his imprinted little toddler.

I mean, twenty year age differences between lovers is okay (and I mean where either sex is twenty years younger). But, to know when that other one is a toddler or a BABY, that is one helluva stretch.

If it were female wolves imprinting on boy babies, what would everyone think? It wouldn't be. I think I smell me a whiff of the sexist collusion in Steph's Mormonism and it's coming through with this weird idea, which, as Solas says, has roots in 'traditions' where females were thought of as chattal.

That's my analysis and I'm sticking to it.

solas said...

True, it is her book, and I am still hoping MR can have a better way and SM will accept it, or that SM herself will realize there is a much better way.
But with the idea it is her book: Remember Me originally was written where Michael was killed in the first WTc attacks. This was changed because it was realized for several reasons this would not be the best way to go.
Sometimes, for various reasons, something is changed from a book, or eliminated, or several events or even characters are condensed, in order to make it into a viable movie.

jessegirl said...

Solas at 6:14...
Well said.
Steph lost her way I think.
Jacob is so selfish, immature and all. Your interesting story of your family life--lots of fodder for a story there, -see, we don't need imprinting to solve our problems--fascinating.

jessegirl said...

rpg...I know it's her book.
Haven't thought about it in a while. The main theme of it though is girl power--which is contrary to all Steph's sexism I posited on the previous post and which I still stand by--that is, Bella turns out to be the most powerful of all, all the Voluri, wolves, everyone. She, the protector, learning to extend that shield to cover all her loved ones. Man, what power.

I bet Steph. had that plan all along. Bella, the frail human, whom Edward could kill so easily in Twilight, becomes the Great Protector.

Yeah, Steph is a little mixed up as far as sexism and girlpower existing within the same saga.

solas said...

If not girlpower, then certainly Bellapower. ;-)

solas said...

And i do think it was planned, at least roughly, from the beginning: Bella's closed mind that even Edward could not penetrate; Bella's clumsiness and awkwardness in the human realm. yet, as a vampire, she is graceful, swift, pwerful, as she said, she finally shines, has a place she belongs. She never could have been with Jacob. Her care-taking, responsible personality and her innate strengths were for the vampire world; she was always meant to be a vampire.

Jazz_Girl317 said...

This is AMAZING! Bill Condon is an amazingly talented director, as well as a writer. That, along with Stephenie's presence as producer, SHOULD keep that complete idiot Melissa Rosenburg from completely obliterating the script (as she did with both Twilight and New Moon, and as I assume she did with Eclipse at this point). I imagine this is quite possible what held up negotiations on the BD contract between Scummit and SM. It's fairly clear, IMO, that SM has been growing disheartened with Scummit and the way they have handled a few things. I'm ecstatic that we finally know that the process is moving forward and I cannot wait to see what they give us. The premiere of BD's final installment (whther that is one film or two) will simultaneously be a fantastic and a very sad day for me.

Regardless of our opinions on any of the subjects, the bottom line is that this is Edward & Bella's story, told by Stephenie. And, with her being given a few of the creative reins, it will finish the way she wants it to.

solas said...

Yep, and I can only hope it won't be disgusting. :-)

jh said...

solas & jessegirl, it never occurred to me that the transformation was going to be just a means to an end, just a mechanistic process. Guess I see sex where there is none...well it isn't the first time. And am a romantic, or both.

uhhhhh yeah, there is so much otherworldly in this movie, its
miles away from drama/musical such as dream girls.... please tell me this guy has special effects experience and can handle the 'special subject matter' that is renesme.

sure i like Rob, but i also like the weirdness of the fantasy fiction, and i dont want this turned into a soap opera 'drama'...

oh by the way, its just a good read, has no major social commentary, and i want to keep it that way in the movie, just a good story....

Monique said...

I have to agree with most of your ladies here... I know its SM story... but I thought Leah with have been perfect for Jacob... Since Bella look upon/want Jacob as a brother... she could have come up with a better idea considering she has a brother name Jacob?
I must say I found the imprinting... quite... It's like I can't have you so I have your daughter one day instead...and to top it all when the baby could talk... she was referring to him as "my Jacob." For those of us who read the book and there are quite a few are talking about SM continuing her story of Jacob/Remesmee... that is one story I can do without... it's can bare thinking about...

AP said...

So, confirmation, eh? It will be two films unless Stephenie changes her mind. Not entirely sure about her 'producer' role, unless it's simply to ensure she's well rewarded.

Condon's done sci-fi/horror and thriller genres in his past, so he's got some working knowledge of all. I still like him more as a writer than a director but my opinion don't count...lol

@Cerulean: I thought the 'becoming a vamp' experience was so painful that one of the reason's it was written to be an 'emergency' was to override Edward's reluctance to cause Bella any pain at all. Yes, vamps are still seductive but their venom is a poison in Meyer's world.

Nancy said...

Oh yes Kate, Absolutely agree with you on this one. So glad Stephenie is a Producer.

Bill may be exactly what is needed. Loved Dreamgirls too. I'd rather see one long movie instead of 2 please. Thinking about BD, it is the wedding, the honeymoon, the pregnancy, the birth, the vampire connection, the imprinting connection, the dad connection, then the Vampire showdown, the reunion, then happily every after, right???? (the Jacob thing could be eliminated really) It is about Bella, Edward, Jacob, Renesmee and the Cullens and werewolves. Okay, make it 3 hours, I can live with that. I don't think they'll be able to contain the original cast for 2 movies now. They're all spreading out. So, it will probably be 1 long movie.

Nancy said...

ok, Kate is right, need lots of skin for the honeymoon, PLEASE!

Also, the vampire honeymoon too....you did it in Remember Me, so keep it up Summit!

Just saw something tonight on Cougar Town. It was fantastic for the NB's, a new saying!!!

Well, I think Jack Dawson shouldn't have died. Why couldn't they have changed that, Forrest Gump's Jenny too, and in the Notebook, if they never would have been separated....that would have made me happy....

solas said...

Not a matter of just making people happy, but correcting something that might have been a rushed vehicle that as presented could be interpreted really horridly and not bode well.
Having Jacob 'imprint' (for a lifemate)either not at all, which would leave a character dear to some, lonely, or on someone suitable (not an infant) would not hurt the story, and if another vehicle for bonding him to Bella's family were used, like having him imprint as a godfather or lifelong guardian (but not mate) with Renesmmee, it would have the same results (everyone live happily after after the wolves and vampires band together against the evil empire) without the possible perversion.

Solas, Jessiegirl & Nic,

Glad that there are some literary buffs in this blog analizing the plot, characters and everything else. I'm learning from them...

I have a funny way of reading. I read the first few chapters, then the middle and then the ending. If I don't like the ending, I don't want to waste my time reading something I won't enjoy.

With BD, I only want to read and enjoy the E&B moments, I read them slowly so I can digest and retain them in my memory and the rest, I read them quickly~i.e. scanning thru the pages thus blocking the chapters I don't like. Blocked all the Jacob, warewolf and imprinting stuff. I don't care what SM wrote, I have my version in my head.

That's how good a reader I am. LOL ladies for the discussions.

As much as we would like to see a little skin in BD, it ain't gonna happen. Maybe get a shirtless Edward, like in New Moon. In the book Edward and Bella walk around nude for nearly an entire chapter. I don't know how Melissa is gonna avoid that. I also bet on 1 film. The way Melissa spoke in her interview BD sounds like it will be put together in 1. I just hope and pray they don't loose the shmexy for too much Volturi Bulls**t. Thats when the book fell flat for me.
