"Eclipse" Has Been Given A PG-13 Rating

Well there's a surprise, not!

Photobucket

The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included a rating for the highly anticipated third part of The Twilight Saga.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse received a PG-13 rating for "intense sequences of action and violence, and some sensuality." (Kate: Could you not change that around a bit and have intense sequences of sensuality and some action and violence. Go on please, just for me)
Both Twilight and New Moon were PG-13 as well, but for slightly different, and somewhat telling, reasons: Twilight garnered its rating due to "some violence and a scene of sensuality," (Kate: Yes A scene. ONE scene.) while New Moon earned it for "some violence and action." (Kate: Only it was the wrong kind of action :-P Aah no I did like the action in New Moon, I'm an action kinda girl!)

Confirming what the most recent trailer suggested, Eclipse's rating indicates that the action quotient has been ramped up compared to the first two movies. (Kate: Yes now we just need everything else ramped up for BD! ;-) Hint, Hint) It appears that Eclipse's marketing will try to build on this in order to attract action-seeking males who have been unmoved by Edward and Bella's love story up to this point. (Kate: NO really, they've been unmoved! I'm shocked LOL) At the very least, more action may serve to make the movie more tolerable for the males that are dragged to see Eclipse.

Summit needs to re-make the entire Saga for only grown-ups ;)

as long as i may have the unrated version i'm fine.

there'd be the explicit scene of rob doing my fav part of the book... "cold as ice, his tongue lightly traced the shape of my lips"

*hears beeping* damn it was only a dream!

Do they really think they'll get a wider appreciation from the "action-seeking male audience" by inserting more lame action sequences? Unless they are trying to attract males in the age group 9-12. All of the so-called action and violence is very tame, which I guess I can live with, but there's no way I can live with a low-rated Edward and Bella lovin'. Breaking Dawn better be rated PG-18.

Seriously is that a toilet roll on the bench?

@Nicole
bwahahahahhahahaha!!! i think it is! not really but i'd like to think so too.

Yeah Nicole, it sure looks like it.
Maybe it's Rob's. Remember he had a roll on the Bel Ami set and we teased him to high heaven about it?
Well. I did anyway. Thought we should have all pitched in and sent him a copy of "Everybody Poops". God that was funn). Who knows? Maybe he carries his own roll on film sets. He is afterall (by his own admission) a paranoid little freak. LOL! (Well. Okay. I added the 'freak' part)

nikola6 said...

Oh. I shouldn't be teasing ya on your birthday Rob. Me sorry. But dammit, sometimes you're such an easy target. LOL!

That was suppose to be...

God. That was funny.

Man. I'm getting tired.

And this new comp moves like grease lightning and the little arrow flies all over the place and the size of the print and the screen zooms from HUGE to tiny.

Doesn't this friggin' thing have any brakes?

First I bitch 'cause the old comp crawled slower than a snail's ass and now I'm complaining 'cause this one jets around like the road runner.

Never friggin' satisfied.

Kate your comments cracked me up! Yes one scene in twilight, but it was pretty hot!!

I'm so excited that we have our leghitch!!!

And yeah...

I don't know how they're gonna do Breaking Dawn as PG-13 unless they sanitize the hell out of it.

That birthing scene alone should be a dripping, bloody, disturbing mess. It was in the book.

And they've got to show us before and after sex just to show how Bella has changed in a VERY substantial way (and this isn't just a horny fan talking. this is the writer in me. they need to show us how she has changed. how she is now 'like him' and he is her sexual partner; both before and after. we need to understand how the sex has changed between them. it can't remain the same because she is not the same)

Before...
She's as fragile as a soap bubble in his hands. So the love making has to be gentle, tentative. Yet, if we don't see feathers flying and a gouched out head board, the audience is gonna hiss and spit at the screen.

And after...
Now she's as durable as he is (even stronger) and so therefore, it stands to reason that the love making would be more...intense. Passionate. With an Edward who after 18 months FINALLY doesn't have to 'hold back' any longer.

They have to 'show' this. And no, it doesn't have to be hardcore, but Meyer certainly let us what was going on in the book. So hell, why not in the film as well?

There's something I don't understand and I've asked this question around town and I can't get an answer that makes any sense...

Sex scenes on television are a helluva lot more racier than they are in films. Why is that? I've seen a few episodes of that True Blood and oh my hell.

I've always thought that if they're going to give us a sanitized PG-13 version of BD, then the fans need to bombard Summit RIGHT DAMN NOW to give the adults in their audience an R rated director's cut (not just scenes, but an entire film cut) and release it about 6 months or so after the the conclusion of Breaking Dawn. That would give them THREE dvd's to sell and more doe-ray-me in their pockets.

But we'd have to bombard them NOW!!! The film is going into production in less than six months and if we wait until after the film is finished, it would be too late and to go back and film 'additional' scenes.

Does anyone agree with this? And if so, how do we start this campaign?

And yeah Noe...

Everyone goes on and on about the leg hitch and I wanna see it too, but...

I've always wondered about that moment when he ran his tongue gently around the shape of her lips. When I read that, my eyes glazed over.

Would they dare in a PG-13 film? I don't get it. These same 12-13 year olds read the book. Why can they not see the scenes re-enacted on the silver screen? Is Summit afraid they'll lose some of their younger audience? What? Mother's will let their young daughter's 'read' the story, but they'll 'balk' at them 'seeing' it?

I am so confused.

Yeah. They've figured that out.

Long ago.

I can't see how Condon and Summit can film the very sexual scenes and birthing scene as written in BD and expect a PG 13 rating.
I expect much of the dialogue will remain but with alott of cutaways - implied but not seen.

I happen to think Meyer lost her way in BD with how explicit some of the book was written, it's very hardcore in parts.

The imprinting scene especially has to be treated with kid gloves, it is so close to bordering on paedophilia.

HBO has some very explicit sex scenes for True Blood (another vampire series) but that is on cable.

I continue to hope that BD is one movie so that these actors can move on.

Annie...

I know that alot are wishing for that and I myself wouldn't mind if they wrapped it up in one film, but I just don't see that happeneing.

Meyer wants it and she's got a lot of power here and frankly, there's just too much money to made.

If I were producing this, from a business standpoint, I cannot think of one reason to not make this two films.

And yeah if you think about it...
With two films, Rob and Kristen will only have about an additional six months to deal with all of this AND with the money he'll make for two films plus his back end deal, Rob should walk away from this with about 100 million in his pocket. And most of that will come from the back end deals.

With that kind of money to be made, what's six more months?

Oh. And not to mention Kristen's money too. Shit. Together they'll be worth about 200 million. WOW!

One thing for sure. They'll never have to work for a paycheck again. They will be financially independent for the rest of their lives.

Thanks for the naughty reminder, Nic;) I thought I'd just have to watch myself during the leg hitch, how could I freaking forget the headboard scene?! THAT'S freaking hot! I swear there's gonna be some mass squirming and whimpering going on in the theaters when that movie hits!...hmmm, now, how to sneak away from a workshop so I can go buy the tickets?

@nikola6:
Let me say just just how very much I enjoy reading your comments. :)

Somewhere, way, way in the back of my mind I understand the logic of making BD into two movies but I was just so disappointed in that book that I want the movie over in one sitting!
What you're saying makes complete sense and I do hope that both Rob and Kristen have very lucrative back end deals. They both deserve that.

I agree with you. I had such a hard time getting through BD. It should be one movie.

@Nik is right, the studio sees $$ and will most likely go for two. But they need to get real and forget about a PG-13 rating. I'm in if there is a way for us to communicate this to the studio as a group.

I watch True Blood, The Tudors, and Spartacus on the premium channels, HBO, Showtime and Starz. They certainly do not leave anything to your imagination. However all of the required warnings are given before the shows begin.

Plus, responding in general, when Bella is changed, apparently sex between vamps is better than between humans. It's freaking amazing, no holds barred sex!

The before and after sex: we want both and we want them done right.
Steph, you wrote it and we expect it.

I have to say this.......BD was always my fav book because we finally get the wedding and then the honeymoon..............
we've waited so long for these two to finally do the dirty..........
I could not get enough of the honeymoon chapter in the book and have reread it about a thousand times and also Bella's bday chapter with the cottage......whoa,
they didn't even make it to the bed........
does that not get evryone excited.......
I'm not too worried about the rest of the book, sorry to be so shallow.....only thinking about the sex scenes,Lol

I thought SM tried WAY too hard in BD to create drama when there was no need.
Much of BD was bloody boring and a very, very tough read.
I loved the cottage scene too. :). I also enjoyed the dialogue after Bella became immortal and Edward kissed her and she said he was holding out on her because the kissing and the feelings she thought would be lost were more intense. Later on both of them knew they would always have the nights to enjoy each other more. Edward says to Bella the morning after in the cottage if she thinks
he could let her get dressed if they didn't have the nights.

The wedding and honeymoon segments were well written aside from all the drama with the bruising. So she bruised, he didn't kill her. She was as happy as can be and then as Bella put it, Edward was killing her buzz! Needless angst! Going so far as him saying he wouldn't touch again for the rest of time on the island and then having her plead please!

Nonfriggensense!

I have to add I just loved the scene of them in the ocean. :)
Moonlight and magic!
