OMG I love these pictures. The scene, the costume, the haircut, the animals.............really does transport Rob to another time and he looks amazing.

Bet he likes the animals...........they don't care who he is and they don't scream at him!!!!!

vafla89 said...

These clothes and the new haircut make him look very young and cute!!! (not that he isn't..!!)

I,m really looking forward to this film - again will show how versatile Rob is as an actor. He looks fantastic - lets hope he's left to get on with his job and has no distractions from fans or paps!

Wow, hot AND dirty..

Now I can really see how tall Robert is, because that is a TALL horse.. And a really beautiful horse too, didn't see that until the second time I looked at these pictures, though..

I'm really looking forward to this film, love the book! =D

It's Team Robkowski!!

RTP_KJS_Lover said...

WTF? There's more? I love durty RobKowski!!!

My mind & eyes really can't take much more.

This is exactly how I imagined him when reading the book.

With all these new pics, I'm going to need a MUCH bigger hard drive.

FILTM!

Marna said...

Oh wow, he looks good. Now that I see what his haircut looks like styled, I like it. I hope we'll be getting lots of set pictures for this.

I haven't read this book or script, but I've heard a bit about it. I wonder if it's weird for Rob & Reese that the last time they worked together, they were mother & son, & now they're playing lovers (I think that's their relationship). It must be a little strange.

Fae007 said...

Dessert

I call it Team Jacob!
And you should check the mail!

I am impressed with the whole atmosphere, colors, costumes, feeling the spirit of time on the set, it is ideally suited, and jacob well ...no words.

Can anybody who read the book tell me if he has Polish roots, because of the name Jankowski, I'm curious whether there is an opportunity for him to speak my native language? If so i will be in heaven....

bursting curiosity

Oh my goodness. I have no idea what this book/movie is about (I know that's probably kinda sad) but I will see this movie because of these pictures. I really want Rob to do more movies that are set back in the day. The 40's suit him.

I think he looks a little afraid of that horse, but that's adorable so it's okay!

nikola6 said...

I must admit...

All of your hilarious and wonderful comments are almost making this bearable for me...almost. 'Cause I want to go down to that set myself with a fire hose and squirt 'em all away.

What I'm happy about though...
With Bel Ami and now this film (coming out before the Twilight frenzy dies away), that he'll be showing the critics that he is capable of so much more than they're giving him credit for.

As for him and Reese once playing mother and son...
I don't think it's going to come into play here. It's not like they acted out a deeply connected relationship in Vanity Fair. It was basically one scene between them where their characters are virtual strangers where he rubukes her and then takes her hand.

I think where it might come into play is when the two of them go out to promote this thing. Interviewers will most likely bring it up...

"Reese, didn't you once play Rob's mother in a film?"

Oh, she's gonna love that because what actress wants to be reminded that she once played her current leading man's mother? And Rob will just laugh...at her expense.

TotallyRobbed said...

The first picture looks like a watercolour painting because of the blurriness - absolutely beautiful.

Is that the director with him in the black cap/white sweater?

nikola6 said...

Frankly, I was surprised that they cast these two opposite each other her as there is a 10 yr. age difference between them. Although they don't look it.

They never do give Marlena's age in the book (do they?), but it would make sense if she were a few years older than him. Being a married woman and a circus vet.

Fae007 said...

@papagaj: SPOILER alert...

he does speak Polish in the book, at some very key moments. Don't know if they left that in the script, but as it's a key plot point I would think so...

Rob's hair looks just perfect, but it seems as if they aren't bothering to go auburn.

And the suspenders?@?!!!
Tie me up, Tie me down...... comes to mind!

TotallyRobbed said...

I'm looking forward to the scene where he's dancing with Marlena in the speakeasy.

Should have read the book more carefully. She was 17 when she met August..and apart of the Benzini Brothers. Then someone (from the circus) had said they had known her for 4 years. That would make her only 21.

Unknown said...

Can Rob be any more handsome in these pictures? I cannot wait to see him in this movie! He's hot!

Cheeky Chops said...

*became apart of* oops

Cheeky Chops said...

Wait, but then she said she had put up with August for ten years. Maybe the circus guy had just been with them for 4. Crap, back to the book....

Cheeky Chops said...

Hahahaha she's somewhere between 21 and 27. *shrug*

Page 272

"She talks of the pain, grief, and horror of the past four year; of learning to cope with being the wife of a man so violent and unpredictable his touch made her skin crawl and of thinking, until quite recently, that she'd finally managed to do that."

She's 21

That's what I get for second guessing myself.

papagáj said...

Reese is such a tiny doll 5' 1½"

imagine her with Rob

seems like a lot of leaning stuff for our boy;)

Cheeky Chops said...

But, that's the book. Have no idea what they did with the script. I don't want to read it.

lallieb said...

For sure "Jesus Christ on a crutch", I usually hold back on the uber enthusiasm for Rob's in-character hotness, but this time I'm on the floor..speechless. And yes, the hair PERFECT. Excited is not the word to describe how I feel about him doing this film. I loved the book. I've resolved to give up all my bad habits, eat lots of veggies, go to the gym, take my meds, to make sure I survive to see this movie. Bel Ami will help get me through, but this one is going to be HUGE!

nikola6 said...

TotallyRobbed...

The very fact that we've got papp photos on the first day of shooting indicates that this is not a secure set at all and that's because it's really hard to secure public land. The ONLY safe place for Robert Pattinson to work in peace -at the moment- is on an indoor, closed, secure set. In all probability, this was the first scene he shot because I imagine the vultures were camped out for hours waiting for him to show up.

And the fallout from all of this, is that it is not only distruptive to Rob's working process, but to his director, crew and co-stars as well. And not knowing their temperments, I don't know that he couldn't take some shit from them because of this. Especially if it were to spiral out of control...even just one time.

I've given more than a passing thought to the idea, that if this happy horseshit keeps up, he could lose roles because other directors and actors don't want to deal with the baggage that Rob Pattinson brings to location shooting. And how would we all like that? Or do we really care what the fuck happens in his career, just so long as we get our steady diet of pictures?

Just something to think about it.

Shit. Shit. Shit. Sorry.
But I can't delete it. I'd hate myself. Guess that means I'm willing to have some of you hate me, than me hate myself.

Well. That's reasonable.

nikola6 said...

Oh. And I've loved Reese since I first saw her on film at 13. She was extrodinary and I knew then, she'd be a star.

lallieb said...

@Kember, I haven't gone back to the book, but I'll take your word for it that she was 21. That would make her Jacob's age. I kind of thought she was a couple years older. Good thing Reese looks so young and fresh faced for her age.

nikola6 said...

Well. If she's two years younger than Jacob in the book, then I'm gonna guess that they've made her a couple of years older in the book. Why else cast an actress ten years older than him? And Reese just turned 34 (and looks younger, I agree) and I'm going to take another guess and say that her 21 year old roles, are behind her. And yes, he looks much more mature than his years and this is why I think they're going to match up well...meeting in the middle so to speak. But they could have gone with actresses closer to his age.
Kiera Knightley and Scarlett Johansson to name just two.

Just guessing here.

HeartThePretty_EvenMore said...

@Kember - Good job finding that passage, I got lost in the paragraphs above it. *wink*
She probably is 21.

lallieb said...

@Nik, understand your POV, but those pappz have powerful long-range lenses, don't they? So hard to know how close they really are. Maybe far enough away, not be interfering???

Also, do you check the box to have comments sent to your email? I had a comment I wanted you to see (re. Ellen show), but you were gone from that thread. I know it would be a pain to see everything in your email box, but I, for one, might have something I am responding to. Given your many thoughts and opninions, would be nice to get that opportunity. I know things move fast around here and we're dealing with different time zones. Just saying.

She has no choice i mean , since she's signed contract with AVON
;)

Ripley said...

Hmmmm Rob looks so good in period clothing. Of course he looks good in anything. But again with the baggy pants.

Cheeky Chops said...

Hahahaha I know what you mean about those paragraphs. ;)

You can guess all you want, she's 21. We're talking about the 1930's here. Where women were already married by 17 normally, plus, maybe had a child. Also, yes, both men and women looked older in the 1930's. Women have always been more mature than men. He had College to worry about as well.

Eh, who knows what they did in the script. They can vary greatly from the books.

Cheeky Chops said...

I think Reese is one of those ladies, she'll always look younger. Plus, her voice is kinda girlie, esp. with that giggle.

lallieb said...

@Papagaj, AVON cosmetics sales will get a big bump up then. 34 yr old plays a 21 yr old and looks the part thanks to AVON. LOL. Great marketing opportunity.

I can't use e-mail for this blog anymore. I'm too opiniated and about a month or so ago, I talked extensively about Summit and R&K and conspiracy bullshit and whatnot and the next day, someone had sent a virus to my e-mail and it messed up my comp.

Got a new one now and I'm not taking another chance with it. I mean, I suppose I could put up an e-mail, but then I'd have to shut up and then no one would want to e-mail with me.

I'm really sorry about this. I'd love to talk with you all behind the scenes, but I just can't.

And maybe my comments here had nothing to do with the virus. It could have been a coincidence, but the timing was weird AND I used that e-mail for this blog ONLY! And we all know the kind of nuts that are running around this fandom.

Sorry again.

Although I'm sorely tempted to because I want to know where the hell Sarah Bear is? She just disappeared. I was under the impression she was going on vacation or something. I don't know. Has anyone heard from her? She was posting everyday and then she just...poof. Was gone.

If I thought she was still reading, I'd put up something in order to contact her.

You out there Sarah? I gotta step away for a bit. But I really want to find you.

@Nik, when you come back. Didn't mean you should give your email out. Don't know how these things work, but my comments are connected to my Google account which is connected to my email account. So I always get the option of having my commnts sent to my Verizon email. It's automatic, but INVISIBLE, if I check the circle after commenting. I'm thinking now it doesn't work this way for everyone.

Re. Sarah, I'm really embarrassed to say that I think it might be because of me that she's not commenting and that really sucks! I surely did not think I would have that much influence on ANYONE. But since my comment, she has not come back on any thread. I did apologize and tried to make amends. I feel very guilty and hope I'm wrong. I mean who the eff am I? So maybe you can tease her out.

Dear God in heaven, how is this man even real! I realize after seeing these beautiful new set pics that I am doomed! I am falling deeper and deeper in love with this man without ever having been in the same room with him. I am so deep now in the Rob vortex I don't think I can ever get out. Do I want to? Definitely not! Every photoshoot, TV appearance, interview, movie, the man just keeps getting more and more amazing. Why is this God? How can he be possible? Who is this Rob you have sent to us in all his glory? Is it a test God? Well, if it is, here's a newsflash, we are all failures and we are going to Rob Hell with a smile on our faces because this man is the deadliest sin that I and the fellow Robsessed have ever laid our eyes on! If we survive this Robowksi, it's only a matter of time before Robward returns, then DuRob, and next rollRob will eventually kill us all...please make it stop--or not. I think that the casting of reese is good because even though the character is younger in the book (as some say, i haven't read the book)she is a really good actress and i think they went for quality.

casting a younger actress with probably less talent would not do justice to the part. To me, neither keira knightley or scarlet johanson are good actresses, i mean they don't suck, but i've never really felt like they are good. Reeese is an awesome actress, and she can make you believe in the character she is playing.

i can't wait to see this film, rob looks ilegally hot, it's not even funny how absofreakinlutly hot he looks, i just died a little to be honest.

i really don't know when this obsession will end, cuz this man only keeps making it worse.

Just a quick note...I have a slightly different view of the paps taking pics of Rob on set.

Of course it's intrusive, and rude, and possibly disruptive. Hopefully it's not the latter. Hopefully the paps do have uber-camera lenses and are standing out of the way of any filming.

If I were a co-star of Rob's, I would find it annoying, sure. But I'd also be glad I was in a project with someone who is still in such high demand that paps follow him everywhere he goes. That bodes well for Rob's continued popularity, which should also hopefully result in good box office for the movies he's in.

So it's not entirely a bad thing for him to continue to be sought out by the media, IMO.

Okay lalli...

I guess we can all say things that can be taken wrong. God knows I do it all the time. Internet communication is difficult because all we have are the words. We can't hear each other's vocal inflections or see each other's facial expressions. But all we can do is apologize if we think we've hurt someone and you said you did that. So I just hope she wanders back 'cause I sure did have some fun with her and...I wanted to get to know her better.

As for that other thing you were talking about with e-mail or somesuch...that all went over my head. I can't even describe back to you what you said. I am so limited when it comes to the technology, that I figure within about 5 years time, I'm going to have to commit suicide because this world is just simply going to leave me in the dust and I will not be able to find a single spot on this planet where I will be able to breath and perform even the most rudimentary of functions without advanced technology. I am doomed.

And lexi...
Don't get me wrong, I think Reese Witherspoon is one of the best actresses working today and I'm thrilled that Rob's been paired up with her and I think she's going to make a great Marlena. She's a great screen commedienne and with her Oscar winning turn in "Walk The Line", proved she's a wonderful dramatic actress as well.

I was just coming up with suggestions that there are actresses closer to Rob's age than Reese who could have played Marlena. I would have to disagree with you about Scarlett. I think there's alot more to her than we've seen yet. But her celebrity and her va-va-va voom body have taken center stage damaging her credibility as an actress. Wait until she gets older. She's like Rob actually; a character actor trapped inside a movie star. As for Kiera Knightley. Go watch "The Duchess" and then tell me she isn't one of the finest actresses of her generation. And I wasn't sold on her when she first showed up. But after THAT performance? She's got me right around the throat.

There are three actresses that I'd love to see Rob work with before he decides to give up public life altogether (and don't think it isn't a possibility)...

Marion Cottiard
Natalie Portman
and Kiera Knightley

Just an opinion.

nikola6 said...

And Leann...

I'm just gonna have to respectfully disagree with you sweetie. You used four words to possibly, potentially describe this situation...

intrusive
rude
disruptive
annoying

And what's going on here is not about his celebrity. What is going on here is about his work. His celebrity comes when he finishes his work and goes out to sell it to the public. He doesn't need THIS to bring attention to his career and the public does not NEED nor does it have the RIGHT to view his work while it is in progress. And if there's even the slightest chance that any of those words could describe a potential situation in which his worked could be compomised (having to reshoot, move the film company to another locale, etc.), would that be worth even one picture?

Let me ask you this (and I've posed this question before around here)...
How would any of us like it when we showed up at work tomorrow, we were greeted by photographers who will stand there all day taking our pictures? Would that make us self conscious, make mistakes? Or what if we didn't even know they were there. Let's say they were in the next room photographing us through a hole in the wall and it wasn't till we got home and looked on the internet and there they were, all these pictures taken unbeknownst to us.

What do you think the odds are that Rob checks? He's got a MAC. And tomorrow morning when he walks back onto that set and even though he might not be able to see them, he'll know that they're there...clicking away. Watching him. Invading him. And he, a paranoid personality to begin with.

I would imagine he'd be afraid to scratch his ass. Or his nose for fear it would look like he's picking it.

These papps arent' there to help to promote Rob Pattinson's film career or bring attention to it. They could give a shit. They are morally corrupt individuals who are stealing pieces of his life in order to make a blessed buck.

No one will ever be able to justify this to me. EVER!

nikola6 said...

P.S.

Papparazzi intrusion into his life did not result in a 100 million dollar blockbuster for Remember Me.

Once again, this has ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING to do with his film career.
This is about making money off of his image. And that's because there is such a DEMAND for that image.

TWI-MOM72 said...

I live 3 miles from the set and drove by today. There were a few paps with big telephoto lenses. The set is about a quarter mile from the main road. You can see the train, buildings and tent from the road but that is about it.

I am going down there tomorrow to see if they are filming at this set or the other one 10 miles away. I am just hoping to catch a glimpse of Rob while he is town.

jessegirl said...

First...SEXpenders!

Okay, I had to get that out.

Juliet4Rob...Ditto for me. I'm actually a bit annoyed at God for tantalizing us mercilessly like this. No good can come of it. lol

Nik...I went to the 'RP will kill your friends' thread, at solas' request and when she gets back have at me. (I think it's got 46 comments now and no one's there.)

Nik...add Ellen Page...
And if we think up poor combinations...Miley Cyrus (did I just say that?) Never!

jessegirl said...

Nik...I'm 100% with you about the paps. I would swear from here to Sunday but it would get me thrown off here.
It's a weird world we live in where this can happen as a matter of course and nothing can be done.

What would Christian Bale do?
(Okay, I am not a fan of his and that rant was terrible, because he was disrespecting a crew member.) If Christian Bale had had to put up with what Rob did in NYC last summer, what would those results have been?

I'm still amazed that Rob did such a great job in RM, in spite of all that craziness which went on because of him. And I was afraid for him. He has a right to feel paranoid.

nikola6 said...

jessegirl...

Until all of this dies down around Rob (but as long as the papps can make $$$ off of him, it won't) then I would hope that Hollywood would not cast him opposite actors who have anger management issues and believe me, there are more than just the ususal suspects;
Sean Penn, Russell Crowe
and Christian Bale. They're just the most notorious. There is alot of alcohol and drugs in this business and it fuels bad behavior.
And then...most of these guy are entitled assholes to begin with.

And who knows? There may be a great role for Rob up ahead that he will lose because he'll have to work with one of those great actors I just mentioned and they will say...

NO FUCKING WAY AM I WORKING WITH THAT KID AND ALL THE SHIT HE BRINGS WITH HIM

Which would be just as well because you really wouldn't want any of those three in these kinds of filming situations with Rob. 'Cause he could get caught in the crossfire. And what could he say to them?

'I'm sorry, it's not my fault.'

Well. No, it's not his fault yet it is his very presence that is causing this situation.

And what would we do if it ever leaked that Rob lost an important role (that he wanted more than anything) opposite one of those actors because of all of this shit? Oh. We'd probably scream and yell and rail at them. But would anyone look in the mirror and accept any culpability in this?

I doubt it. How can you accept culpability if can't accept that something is wrong?

Just sayin'. I know. I'm just sayin' toooooooo much. It's just that this is really hard guys. I wish I could explain everything so you'd really understand.

I hate, hate, hate it when I know he's about to go on location. You'd never know it from my smartassing around here, but in the days leading up to it, the dread sets in.

Nik, do you think some actresses could be put off by all the attention afforded Rob too? Could they be reluctant to film with Rob because of the subsequent rumors? And what actresses are notorious for being hard to please?

nikola6 said...

jmm8432...

For actresses, it's not who is tempermental, difficult to work with, but rather, who isn't because actresses are the worst. And that's because actresses are the most insecure women in the world. Or should I say, beautiful women are the most insecure. Why? Because they have put all of their eggs into the basket of their beauty and when that beauty begins to go, so does their value. Especially in that business. And so yes, they are are very jealous of anyone who can steal the spotlight from them. However, they don't express as men do in explosive anger. They're just controlling, manipulative bitches.
Examples...trying to get the camera angle. Wanting the focus of the scene with both the camera and the dialouge. Alot of actresses trade sexual favors with directors to make sure they're presented in the best light. Even big stars do it. Now I'm talking about your Meryl Streeps or your Julia Roberts. They've amassed too much power and clout. But alot of big name actresses don't have that clout. It is accorded to only a very few. Streep because she is the considered the greatest actress of the modern age and Roberts because she is the biggest movie star of her generation. And a few other. More actors are given power than the women (what else is new?) Also...

Actresses are more insecure because they know they've got a shorter shelf life than they're male counterparts. We've got leading men well into their 50's and 60's. Usually by 45, a woman's options begin to dry up.

Reese Witherspoon is a lovely person and a wonderful actress, but she is also one of those controlling women. She needs everything in it's place. Every T crossed. Every i dotted. And I don't know if this papp/fan situation escalates, that she couldn't have some issues with it. I don't know. I do know that Christina Ricci has one of the worst reputations in the business. Very difficult personality. And I figure if Rob got through filming with her, he could get through filming with anyone.

Actors are given lots of passes by management and even each other and that is because of talent. If you've got talent, in that business, you can get away with murder. And easy going actors tolerate the misbehavior of their difficult talented co-stars because talent is attracted to talent. That's why so many of them sleep with and marry each other. Talent is an absolute aphrodisiac to them. What was one of the first things Rob ever said about Kristen? Her beautiful legs? Her pretty face? No. He said she was the best actress of her generation. BINGO! He was taken with her before he ever set eyes on her in the flesh.

Anyway. Did I answer your question? Thanks for the distraction though. I needed it after these pics today.

nikola6 said...

And please, don't anyone get me wrong.

I too think these pictures are so heartstoppingly beautiful that they've left me breathless. And this book is one of my very favorites and to watch him bring Jacob to life means so much to me. That it's going to be Rob.

But I'm okay with waiting for the end result. I don't need to see it as a work in process. But ONLY because, I KNOW what this intrusion is doing to him. If it weren't a problem for him, I'd be THUDDING right along with the rest of you thinking... hell Rob, welcome to Hollywood stardom.

Cheeky Chops said...

Really? Christina? I would have never thought that....

nikola6 said...

As for rumours bothering actresses...

For some they'd love nothing more than to be linked to him. They'd protest it, but publicity is publicity. And even to have to deny it, is bring attention to them. And...

More than half the actresses in that business would bed him faster than you could say...CatInTheHat.

Word has it, he was never interested. Which 'caused some 'talk' early on. 'Cause why wouldn't the 'new kid in town' take all the movie star pussy he could get? And accept their requisite invitation to the Playboy Mansion to get in an orgy in the grotto? After all, that's what they all do. Every last one of them. Has Rob? As famous as he's been since November of 2008, do you think if he'd gone to that mansion, it could have gone unnoticed?

But now they're starting to figure out that he's just a little bit different from the norm and he fell in love with his co-star before all of this stardom hit him and what really has blown the minds of some in this town, is that he waited 18 months to be with her. THAT is unheard of.

Any other young actor would have told her to fuck off and he would have gone and found another beautiful actress to sleep with.

Or a hundred.

This boy is different.

nikola6 said...

Yup. One of the best and most unrated actresses in the business AND one of the most difficult personalities to deal with. Kristen Scott Thomas ain't no walk in the park either.

nikola6 said...

Christina should be a much bigger star by now, but that difficult personality hinders her. Much like Jennifer Jason Leigh, who was considered the greatest actress of her generation (the generation of Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman). But she was beyond difficult to work with and a lot of the big studios and directors passed. Yup. Maybe the greatest actress of her generation, but unlike those others I just named, she ain't got no Oscar. She never even got a nomination. Niether has now that I think of it...has Christina Ricci.

And both women -talent wise- are more than worthy.

Cheeky Chops said...

"Rush" loved that.

nikola6 said...

I know Kember. She was one of the very best, but where is she now?

Well. She's passed her shelf life for one thing.

Acting is one horrifically, horrible profession for women.

If people only knew.

Not the 'kraft' of acting. The
'business' of it.

Cheeky Chops said...

That's why I (and most people) do not want anything to do with it. Anyone who does are just plain nuts. That's what I've heard that about most actors and actresses anyone. LOL

Cheeky Chops said...

Remove the "that". Damn, on that note..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

nikola6 said...

Why do you think they're all chopping their faces up and putting in the boobs? Because at the end of the day (unless you're at the very tip top of the talent pool), it's about their appearance.
The younger they look, the longer they keep working.

Back in the day, before the plastic surgery, leading ladies were pretty much done by 35. Hell, Marilyn Monroe MARILYN MONROE! was 36 at the time of her death and it was figured she was pretty much at the end of her career. MARILYN MONROE!

But some of her male contemporaries...
Marlon Brando, Jack Lemmon, Paul Newman.

They worked and remained stars until they died. In their 70's and 80's.

So horribly unfair.

nikola6 said...

My father always said (and he knew most of them), that if people REALLY knew these actors, they wouldn't let 80% of them in the house. LOL!

Dad was right.

nikola6 said...

It's one of the reasons I quit acting. I didn't have the stomach for it.

And neither does Rob really. He stumbled into this because of that 'once in a generation' face of his. But whadda ya know? He actually has some talent to go with it.

When he was first spotted by that agent at that little Barnes Theatre Company, does anyone think he was signed because of his tremendous talent? He was raw. He had no experience and probably didn't have a fucking clue as to what he was doing up on that stage. He was signed to an agency for one reason and one reason only...THAT FACE!

The kind of face a movie camera falls in love with.

But I don't think he ever had the fire in his belly for all of this. If he had, he would have capitolized on his role in Harry Potter. It was a featured and memorable role in one of the biggest film franchises in history and what did he do with it?

Nothing. He spent a year bumming around London. And then did a couple of films for the BBC and then a couple of tiny independents.

And then he actually did go after something. Twilight. And part of the motivation in that was the opportunity to work with Kristen Stewart.

All of this has been serendipity. This wasn't his driving passion in life. So many actors say...'if I wasn't acting, I'd be in jail because there's nothing I can or want to do.'

Not so with Rob. Which is why I think if it got to be too much, he could walk away from it.

He doesn't NEED this.

nikola6 said...

Jmm4832...

You started this and then you took a powder. And now it's been me and Kember. Which is fine. But where the hell did you go?

But thanks again for the distraction. I really needed this tonight. Just to shoot the shit.

I have such a potty mouth. What is the matter with me?

You grew up in Hollywood.

Oh yeah. Right.

Anyone ever hear what a truckdriving mouth Kristen has? It's the environment. I'm telling you.

(she could probably talk me under the table. I hear that MOFO is her 'favorite'. LOL!)

nikola6 said...

Ooooh. I just went back and read that first answer to your question
jmm4832 and I made a major gaff.

I said...'I'm talking about your Meryl Streeps and Julia Roberts.'

When what I meant was...

'I'm NOT talking about your Meryl Streeps and Julia Roberts.'

(I had to correct that one 'cause it changed the absolute meaning of what I was saying. Man. I wish there were a way on blogs to go back and edit a post)

Nikola ...

I was thinking of the chaos with RM in Central Park and all the street stuff.

Maybe Rob's management should permit an official set photographer who could photograph Rob legitimately because they'd have all the best close ups and angles so the paps shots would be pale comparisons. Then we could look at him withouth knowing that someone of no worth is getting rich on that shot. Just an idea, probably unworkable.

It's hard to imagine the madness that takes place out there - it is another world compared with some other countries where location filming doesn't seem to hit the level of dogged determination to trample down so many barriers. Not only talking about paps - it's extreme fans - he is given more space in Europe for example.

I doubt if it would affect his work in future with actors/directors etc - he's too bankable and likeable - he will always draw people to him. The actors etc involved will only really know what it's like when they get on set and it will be too late by then!

Got to go to work now - no chance of looking at this site at work sadly.

I don't know if you are awake or here Nik, but I am interested in what Hollywood, and other venues of fame, do to women. WHen i was even a lttle girl and had a beautiful voice, people (esp music teacher) were pushng my parents to get me voice lessons and get me into recording something. But aside from being raised in a strict relgious path, where it is not considered proper (and many say it is outright sin) for a girl's or woman's voice to be heard singing, my parents had this idea that acting and singing in public was not for women becasue women had to 'sleep their way' to fame and fortune, and whoever didn't wouldn't get parts or jobs in these (acting and music) fields. I don't know where they got the idea from, if it was a known thing at one time and not anymore, but I had thought it was ridiculous until I had a rather shocking (at least for myself- still relgious although rebellious in some ways as I WAS singng in public, and even wearing jeans, and short sleeved tshirts)experience in a recording studio, and the first thing that escaped my mouth was--OMG--My mother was right!
Do you know for a fact if this was true at one time, and if so, is it still true for now?

Yes Solas...

The "casting couch" is alive and well Hollywood.

This industry is run on two things;
power and sex. Who has the power?
Studio chiefs, producers, big directors, powerful A list stars (who've climbed the ladder to the top). Who has the sex? The gorgeous young things who show up on trains, planes and automobiles looking for stardom. It is a tradeoff.

And I'm not saying that everyone who's become a star, has traded their body for that stardom. But the majority have. Even back in the day of classic Hollywood. Even the great Katharine Hepburn had an affair with the very married Leyland Heyward (probably spelled that wrong). He was the most powerful agent in the business; VERY powerful and he made her a star. Or the greats like Greta Garbo, Marlena Dietrich and Ingrid Bergman. All aligned themselves with powerful directors who made them stars too. Having beauty and talent isn't enough. And that's because there are so many with the beauty and talent and only so many slots for the stardom. For those who handout the stardom? They have their pick. The only one who said she never slept with anyone for the purposes of furthering her career, was Bette Davis. But for most, it's just how it's done.

And today, with homosexuality out of the closet and sexual freedom for women, the young men are just as vulnerable to this as the young women. We've now got women in power in Hollywood (not as many as the men...yet), but many more studio execs, producers and directors and most of them have gotten to where they are by sleeping with and marrying powerful men and/or powerful lesbians.

So the young ones today are prey to just about EVERYTHING. They've got powerful people (both sexes with both sexual orientations) asking them...'what are you willing to do in order to become a star?' And today, there is so much more competition for stardom. With the explosion of the pop culture and reality tv and the internet, everyone wants to be a star. Everyone wants to be famous.

If they only knew.

And with sexual morality out the window, nobody in the business thinks anything of it. If they hear that so and so young stud slept with an old, fat gay producer to get a role, nobody cares and that's because a majority have done it themselves.

It's a gorgeous art form, film acting, but it's been awash in filth since the inception of the business. Because the key word here is...business. It's all about the profit.

And no...I do not believe that Rob has played along. He never went after stardom. Even after he got his break in Harry Potter. Oh, he went to Hollywood allright. Stayed about a month, turned right around, went back to England and bummed for a whole year deciding if this is really what he wanted for himself. I think in that month or so in Hollywood, that boy got his eyes opened a bit to the realities of Hollywood stardom. And he passed. He got Twilight for one reason only. Kristen Stewart. She said she wouldn't do the film without him. He didn't have to sleep with anyone to get that part. Which is a miracle considering how many thousands were up for the it.

If I thought Rob Pattinson was part of this cesspool, I'd still think he was talented and gorgeous, but I wouldn't be here investing my time and emotions in him. He's the ONLY actor I've ever let myself get emotionally involved with.

nikola6 said...

P.S.

It's because of this cesspool, that I didn't pursue a career in acting. I had some talent and I was pretty (some even said beautiful), but I didn't want stardom and fame and money enough to sell myself for it. And I could have. That casting couch was offered to me too.

And yeah, my dad was in the business, but he wasn't a famous or powerful man, just a working actor and even though he knew EVERYBODY, that wasn't enough to afford me protection. So, I quit.

You have to want this more than anything in the world. ANYTHING! Which is why I think Rob COULD walk away from it all if it gets to be too much. He never wanted it or went after it.

It came to him.

lemonie said...

Nik, I so love your comments, your arguments are always so well thought out and rational. You obviously have a lot of experience to draw on which also makes what you say credible. I used to be a tv director in the UK and know a little bit about what goes on in that field - ITA with alot you're saying about the fans, paps and invasion of privacy. I have seen what can happen to some very well known industry people- I really hope that with his family and friends support Rob can see through the hangers on, groupies, sychophants, drug dealers, papps, gossp columists and the like that are the cesspools of the entertainment world.

As you say I wouldn't be surprised if one day when he has made enough money he'll just walk away. He's never struck me as having chased stardom - and seems bemused with it at times. I just hope he can stay sane and safe through the one hell of a trip this journey is taking him on

Thanks Nik and all others for your comments on Robert's integrity. Like you, I believe he's the real deal. He didn't seek this meteoric rise to stardom. He was just looking for a job; just like the rest of us and until Twilight, he wasn't having much luck.

I get the feeling that, like he said somewhere in an early interview: he's going to work as much as possible, without the stress of auditioning, and that once this flash-fame starts to burn out, he moves on to other things in life. His goal isn't, or has never been, to have the world scream and follow his every move. He obviously is very comfortable in front of the camera,,, why shouldn't he be,,, he grew up modeling from a young age.

But, he's still a shy and pretty much unassuming kind of guy who has said he's not "materialistic" and wants a house, a dog, and to make music. He's never said, he wants to do this alone, so there you have it,,, his choice, in Kristen, so far, makes perfect sense. She, also, does not enjoy the constant spotlight so it wouldn't surprise me if both of them found a quiet corner of the world to live after the Twilight madness is over. They will both probably continue to make movies in the distant future, but why put themselves through this scrutiny and instrusion of their private lives after they have a fortune to live on and are still able to do other things they love to do with their lives, like music, or writing or acting too, and maybe with each other.

Finding a "perfect partner" is so rare in life; it's nice to hear Robert describe Kristen this way. You certainly don't hear Hollywood wannabees describing each other in this way.

I think I am just like you, in the way you think of rob...You just want to protect him. I want to give him a big hug and cook him a real home cooked meal, I want to hear him laugh without fear of who is watching! Ya know? Yes, I am old enough to be his mother ( young mother that is) but still I feel this need to protect his innocence. He reminds me of how my hubby used to be at that age. so very endearing.

anyhoo, I too am so crossing my fingers that the evilness of hollywood does not effect him, and his family and friends continue to keep him grounded. So far he has shown such a remarkable ability to choose great movies, surround himself with good people, and keep his head on straight, we have yet to see what he can really do!

I am rambling... sorry, just wanted to say "hey" and I will miss you if you leave!

Hi AP, I,ve directed loads of things in my time `(was in the industry for 18 years) - worked for BBC, ITV, CHANNEL 4, DISCOVERY and many small indpendent productions and latterly a few pop promos - I worked on mainly travel shows and documentaries, kids programmes ... the list goes on .... worked on drama's as an assistant script supervisor - worked with amongst others people like Jenny Agutter, Nigel Hawthorne, John Cleese - don't want to name drop anymore so lets say fair contingent of british character actors - are you Uk based - you would probably know some of the stuff I worked on - if you are from US not sure you would ... probably most never made it across the Atlantic!

Anyways... Back to Rob......

Interested to hear your views - yeah I think Rob wanted to be an actor too - but maybe peer pressure from friends like tomstu / Marcus etc.. (they were all going to get somewhere, espeecially with the connections some of them have )- upped his game. I,m sure I read somewhere he wanted to be a character actor , learn his craft first - rather than the lead - but then why did he go to Hollywood?
I dunno I suppose its the Holy Grail for any young wannabe actor/actress especially if your English and don't want to end up doing the soaps (however that is a very good place to learn - so why didn't he just go that route?)

I believe Rob is an intellectual - I think he didn't get into acting for the Glory ( sure thats a nice by product, along with the money and a little bit of recognition does no harm to the ego) but for the artistic integrity he craves. Don't forget he's also a nice middle class public school boy (and theres nothing wrong in that) - probably had a pretty comfortable life - and wanted like so many artists to step outside his comfort zone. Sorry If I,m waffling - its late here - anyway just my opinion - I,m certainly no expert! Anyway, whatever - he's still amazingly hawt!!!

feel protective towards her too and I will jump in to defend her (hey. I'm just a mother who couldn't have a baby, so...I guess I've kinda adopted these two). But overall, this sure has turned out to be lovely place to hang out in. Thank you.

And I said I was gonna say off the blog and what do I do? I come back to check if anymore papp pics showed up. And why? Oh. Just to twist my gut up into another knot. Man, If we ever figure out human behavior, we might have something.

@AP...
I don't think you're being cynical at all and maybe I didn't explain myself right.

I think Rob wants to be an actor too. Very much. But I don't think he was looking for MEGA worldwide stardom in the process. I think he wanted to work in small, independents playing weird, oddball characters. But then, through no pursuit on his part, all of this just fell into his lap. He had no idea what was going to happen when he audtioned for Twilight and CW hinted at something (in that Time Magazine blurb) that I have thought for sometime...because of what has happened to his life, if he could go back, would he have made a different decision? Would he have let Twilight go? At first I thought, yes. He would have let it go. But I've changed my mind on that. For two reasons...

One...It's brought Kristen into his life. And as I've said before, I don't know what this is between them or where it might one day lead. In many ways, they're just babies with so much growing and changing ahead of them. Will they do that together or will they move in different directions? I don't know. But at the moment, I would venture to say that she is probably the most important thing in his life. More important than the career even. And maybe what this is between them is just something that is going to get them through this time together. And if that's what it is, then it will be enough and I would imagine that they'd then look back at this time they spent together with love and graditude for one another. I would hope so anyway.

And two...He's got a taste of it now. Not the stardom, but a chance to do the kind of work that he wants to. Right now, it's about building his name in the industry and amassing some wealth and clout along the way. And once he feels he's ready, I think he could very well strike out on his own and not just be a 'gun for hire' by the studios. I think he really wants that production company of his and THAT is what he's working towards right now. He has said he doesn't want to spend his career in the money making machine of Hollywood. He wants to write, direct and produce and make small films about 'something' and not just have the only motivation be the bottom line of the box office.

And I hope so much that he'll get that chance. But I can also see him walking away from the spotlight but still continuing on with his career, but from behind the camera, to get his face from off of that screen. To be a
filmmaker and yes, occasionally step back in frong again to play a role.

But I just have a feeling that this is all going to go very low key for him. And if he and Kristen do manage to make it, I can see her
doing the same.

Just some intuision.

And Solas...

Where the hell are you woman? I wrote all this out for you 'cause you asked.

Would somebody, if you run into her, send her over here?

Thanks.

I love you guys and I love this place and I'm not leaving. Just trying to navigate my way around here without making people nuts through this time while he's shooting on location. He'll be done soon enough.

@lemonie...

Yeah, I certainly think that Rob is a character actor trapped behind the physical persona of a gorgeous movie star. And starting out, that's how he was gonna get cast. As I've said, he's got a "once in a generation" face and casting directors were going to go with that. Although the stinker has tried. Look at his roles in "Bad Mother's Handbook", "How To Be", and "Little Ashes." Those are all character roles in which he buried that beauty that beauty of his.

And I think he looked at Edward in the same. He was gonna approach this as an character actor, but...he miscalculated there.

And that's because his movie star persona was going to EXPLODE. It just needed the right vehicle and that vehicle was Edward Cullen. He just didn't know that when he signed up.

Nik, I've said the same thing here before. I've a feeling Rob is grateful for Twilight's success and fame, despite the many drawbacks, for three main things:
1 Kristen
2 the clout he now has to get projects done
3 the boost he's been able to give his mates' careers.

The "Brit pack" musicians have been touring around the world the past year - on a shoe string mind you, but still getting exposure - thanks to the spotlight their friend Rob and his movie have shown upon them. Rob's decision to fight for the role of Edward has changed many people's lives... for the better, and that must feel wonderful and rewarding for him.

Hi Kember - waffling means writing too much stuff and not knowing when to shut up! :)

And Nik great you're not going anywhere - I,ve been one of those who love to read the blogs but been a bit scared to join in, so have been following you for a while.

- I think you and I agree on a lot of things!! You're right about Robs looks - I had to laugh out loud at your mention of The Bad Mothers handbook - not even the haircut and thick rimmed glasses could make him look any less gorgeous! And he looked pretty spectacular in Little Ashes, even with the little facial ticks and jerky movements --- and of course the "tash - but I think every character he's played he's totally nailed it.

Its always harder to be taken seriously when your so beautiful, as a man or a woman. And you're also dead right about what those casting directors are looking for (spoken like a true actor!) - Johnny Depp had similar problems when he was starting out and he has gone on to make exactly the type of films our boy aspires to quirky, art house but commercial (think Who's eating Gilbert Grape, Sleep hollow, Edward scissorhands even Sweeny Todd). Depp has managed to combine a successful career with a stable family life whilst staying relatively grounded ( all be it after a few wilderness years) - so there's every chance we are all feeling a little pessimistic because of these papp pictures and the pressure of fame won't do him any long term damage. BTW didn't know he had talked about setting up his own production company - He got asked once whether he'd be interested in Directing and he said he wasn't sure, but yeah why not.... but that he had only just started to learn how to be an actor. ;) lol!

Thanks Ap - yeah no longer in it, you hit the nail on the head - it was actually not getting to be much fun anymore - very anal at times and incredibly stressful - so once the fun went - so did I !- but have lots of great memories!
Guys its 1.50am in the morning here- so I,m heading to hit the sack - hope you have a great weekend and catch up with you all soon I hope!

Great thread you got going here ladies. I'm often in awe how one post, for no particular reason other than Rob, veers into a long, thoughtful, conversation, even teasing some lurkers out to participate. This is happening more often lately, and I, for one, like it a lot! I have a pipe dream that all the people here who care so much for Rob, and seem to understand him, would have the opportunity to sit down for just an hour with HIM, and yak our heads off and get his truth from the "horse's mouth" so to speak. It makes me wonder if Rob is ever tempted to peek at this site or any of the others about him (early on it's thought that he did), but don't know if he is tempted anymore. IF, perchance, he is, I think he might go right to Nik, to affirm or deny any of what she has so eloquently written on his behalf. I suspect he wouldn't get any further than the comments about his hotness and body parts, etc. That would scare him off. Not suggesting you stop that, not possible, I'm just projecting. He has to self-protect, which he does by convincing himself it's all about Edward, though I don't think he really believes that.
I'm not adding anything to what already's been said, ITA Nik, Lois, Leominie, Skywaitress, Bella, and AP. Oh, yuh, I'm also very touched by the support you give Rob's relationship with Kristen. FINALLY, we can, (I hope) retire "shipper" trash talk and please that mythical creature "Robsten" by giving respect to them both as they navigate their journey together.

@Kember, "waffling" I thought meant going back and forth between two opinions and not committing to either one. Anyone?

Nik...12:30am...RE: good actors with entitlement and anger management issues--

I don't care if he loses a part because one of those jerks is already cast. Frankly, I'm glad Sean Penn is not in WFE. Robert doesn't need that kind of shit as well as all the other stuff we've all been talking about.

I don't care how many awards Penn, or whomever, has won, or how much they are applauded. If they poison a set Rob is on, make it harder for him, they aren't worth the roles they're cast in. Simply not worth it. Rob deserves better, much much better.

Sorry everyone else, I know there's a lot going on in this thread but I don't have time to give it the attention it deserves right now, even though I love what a number of you have to say.

lallieb said...

@Jesse, once again I think you've closed out the thread. You probably didn't see it, but on another I said, the thread isn't dead until Jessegirl weighs in. LOL. Chance Nik might check in, but think it's dead. So my wonderful (joking) thoughts will never be read. There's always tomorrow and more weekend Rob, hopefully to keep us going.

Loisada said...

@lallieb, yes, in American English, waffling means flip flopping in your opinions, not committing to anything. A verb often used to describe politicians!

Loisada said...

And yes, it's probably time to move the convo up to a higher thread, before this one falls off the radar.

Night ladies, lovely Rob dreams to you all.

skywaitress said...

Jessegirl, I agree with your last comment too. I was secretly happy Sean Penn did not want/get the part of August. I think his personality, or lack there of, would set the tone of the whole filming of WFE if he were there. Not in a good way either.

Lallieb, thanks for welcoming me. I lurk, read, laugh out loud and usually agree with most of the comments posted. I will only post if I think what I have to say adds value to the conversation, other wise I think I sound like an idiot!???

Waffling-add strawberries, whipped cream and maple syrup! waffling! (see thats the idiot in me talking!) sorry, yeh, I went there.

OK--this thread might be dead, but I was following the breadcrumbs nik left for me to find her answer to my question. Remeber-- I stay offline, off the grid, etc, on holy days and eachweek on the Sabbath (sundown Friday until stars come out Saturday night).
I don't think Rob sought to be an actor; he wanted to act. I think he said once he did not want to be defined by his job, and he does a lot. If any one title applies, it would be artist. A thinking artist. ANd i wish he could have made himself more clear in the recent Ellen show. He is spontaneously saying stuff because he hasn't formed intelligent thoughts and answers on everythng that is thrown his way, and he feels the need to respond, so he just tosses something off his tongue, leaps before he looks, speaks before he gets a chance, or is given proper time, to think. I also think somewhere along the line in his childhood he had a need to entertain-- either to deflect someone's anger with him, or to avoid other uncomfortable situations (like not knowing an answer, especially because he needs time to process and make sure of what he is really thinking).
If I were ever able to win a contest to interview him, I would ask him ahead of time what he would like to answer, what he would like people to know, what he would like to be asked, and give hm the time to think about it seriously, or at least if I had questions, i would give them to him ahead of time to give him the time to process.
