Robert Pattinson and a little gold statue?

Christoph Waltz has been saying some lovely things about Rob... I think I'd burst with pride if it was to come true. Plus you get the bonus of Rob in a tux and that doesn't hurt!

Robert Pattinson, An Oscar Nod in His Future? His Castmates Seem to Think So...

Robert Pattinson is taking a break from his role as Edward Cullen and Twilight; this summer the hunky vampire is filming Water For Elephants, a film based on my avbsolute favorite book...yet, by Sara Gruen. Robert Pattinson is taking his role in this film very seriously; I would too if the world only knew me as a love-struck vampire.

In the film Pattinson plays a veterinarian during the Depression who hooks up with a traveling circus. Also starring in the film are Reese Witherspoon, playing Robert Pattinson's love interest, Marlena, and Christoph Waltz who plays the circus manager, August.

Christoph Waltz was the one who, when asked where he keeps his Oscar (Best Supporting Actor 2010, Inglorious Bastards), said "in [his] house. But the way things are looking [he] might have to hand it off the Rob next year." Interesting...I can only imagine that Waltz would only say this if he truly believed the Twilight hottie was good enough.

I am looking forward to Water for Elephants, not only to see Robert Pattinson play a non-wizard or vampire role, but because the storyline is so good. Reese Witherspoon was an excellent but obvious casting choice; Robert being chosen for this role came at somewhat of a surprise to be...I hope it will be pleasant.

Are you excited to see Robert Pattinson play a "normal" character? Do you think he has what it takes to secure an Oscar nod?

Wow...I honestly don't know why he didn't get a nom for Remember Me, but I think he has a chance with either WFE or Bel Ami...

i would like nothing more, but how often do the give the award to someone so young and relatively new to the arts?that said...i really really wish it would happen.just to shake the "teen heart throb"image off and show he can really act.

That's brilliant news - people in the business are clearly excited about Rob plus he's been working with a lot of huge actors now. Bel Ami and WFE will definitely change perceptions of him.

I voted "unhappy" in the poll about BD being in 2 films, even though they are entertaining, he's got at least another 2 years in the Twilight zone, depending on when they release part 2. He'll have a much clearer shot at oscars when he's out of the zone, but it will be the BEST NEWS if he gets nominated for WFE!!

Early days yet, but generous of Chris to say so. The work Rob is doing is impressive, and he's definitely holding his own with two fine actors and a great script. Fingers crossed it all comes together as it should...
