I'm going to have to agree with everyone when they say watching Eclipse the second and thrid times is so much better than the first. I find myself noticing different things everytime I go and watch it.
Opening scene my heart melts everytime when they're in the meadow and she's reading Robert Frost and he's pushing her hair back DISTRACTING her kissing her neck [SIGH].
David Slade definitely steered this movie in a different direction glad we got to see Rosalie/Jasper back stories and more action and Romance. Besides the choppy scenes this movie was perfect !

I just wanna say that I didn't like the way Slade made the vampires statue-like. They shouldn't shatter that way, or make that noise. They should rip apart and be basically a really old corpse. It really bugged me. The fight scenes were cool, but Stephenie's vampires are not statues.

Other than that.. I absolutely LOVED Eclipse. Jasper and Riley really improved it, I think.

I saw the world premiere in LA and went to the UK preview last night at midnight.

Saw so much more the second time, I think I was dazzled in LA LOL!!

Loved Eclipse and Edward gets hotter with every Twilight.

Just got back from seeing Eclipse. OMG it was AMAZING!
I really agree with many of you here, it was the best of the 3. I've read that some people think it wasn't like the book... but I don't understand why they think that. It had all the important scenes from the book. {SPOILER:I can only think of one scene that is missing and that is Alice kidnapping Bella, but it was so well done that I didn't miss it.} I really loved Rob in it. I think that his acting has inproved a lot. The medow scenes were really great and the bed scene .... OMG. Eclipse is a verry romantic movie.
I'm team Edward forever:D, but I have to admit that Taylor did a great job in this movie. He was really believable and there were times that I was really feeling sorry for Jacob.
I can't wait to see it again. I'm going again on Monday.
Great job David Slade!!!!!

some of bella's wig a litbit horrible for me, also Victoria's wig.

but Iam really missing part when Edward said these lines

1. But you are human, Bella. And, as much as I might wish otherwise, so is he… There are holes in your life that I can’t fill. I understand that.
o r
2. I can be noble, Bella. I’m not going to make you choose between us. Just be happy, and you can have whatever part of me you want, or none at all, if that’s better. Don’t let any debt you feel you owe me influence your decision.

that's part that make me cry when I read Eclipse (and hoping someone like edward in my life) and Iam disappointed :(( it's feel like Bella never feel sorry for Kissing Jacob..

in my opinion E/B interaction is sweet and yeah good..BUT B/J interaction is DEEP and I think DS/MR/SM made Jacob more likeable, I kinda sorry with Jacob in the movie.

Many best line's of Jacob appear in movie then make B/J more DEEP, instead Edward's line with "you're always my bella"

The the last scene...
"So it's not all about me?" Edward's line

then Bella stand up and made a weird speech about her life (??)
I think DS, MR and SM really tried to make her seem stronger and more like a feminist (???)

then Iam in a inference....
Bella in the movie is desperately want to be a vampire than to be with edward (or Jacob), even she says it's not about a choice between the two of them.....She just want to be a vampire ....

Bella's Line in Eclispe's Book "Everything in my world was about him. What a silly thing to expect"

She chosen become a vampire to be with Edward not WTF reason MR made in the script.

But after all...it is not a bad movie...Summit's formula for a BLOCKBUSTER movie is succeed.

sorry for long post

I am just going to sit here and stare at this lovley wallpaper.

saw it for a third time yesterday I love all of Rob's facial expressions in this movie. the opening meadow scene just melts my heart, along with the proposal scene

There were two ladies behind me that had not seen it yet and when it was over I overheard them saying that they never thought that Rob was that good looking but they found him looking pretty hot in this one.

But I about died when we were standing in front of a poster with Zach Efron on it and some girl pointed to it and said " he should of been the one to play Edward he is much hotter", I really wanted to say something but I kept my mouth shut.

I have to go watch again and again to get to the core of it. WOW just WOW. The tend scene my for ever fouvotire." You will always be my Bella" THUND.

isabel said...

saw it yesterday with 3 friends and we all loved it
the proposal was perfect and beautiful with the music...
the tent scene was spot on as well
something that was changed..it started with New Moon when Bella saves Edward( in Italy with the
volturi)
in the scene with Victoria Bella cuts herself to save Edward which didnt happen in the book and the ending when she tells Edward she wants to be a vampire...hmmm
I wonder if they dont want to deal with any critcs about "a young girl gives up everything for her obsession with a boy" kind of a thing..because that was a criticism of the books and now they have pretty much had Bella save Edward twice from being killed which never happened in the books
Two things i didnt like so much...after the kiss with jacob...nothing..."idk what happened" thats it
and after the fight with Victoria, Bella just stands there like a stone statue.... and then says "somethings wrong we need to go back" no omg are you okay, Edward love of my life who almost died and just killed Victoria and Riley for me
well, just 2 small things
overall we loved it
i thought that DS did a great job!!!

@AP
I'm interested in your remarks about inconsistency of style and mood. Could you elaborate a bit?

I've been witholding judgement on the movie till I've seen it again, but I came away feeling disappointed and I couldn't figure out why. I just found it lacked the passion and drive of the first two. Director not in love with the material? Certainly it was my least favourite book so maybe it's my lack of interest in the source material. Everyone else seems so crazy about it, I thought maybe I'm missing something. I need to see it again. I did watch Rob a lot. :-)

twmmy,

My region 2 PAL version of New Moon does have English subtitles

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@Cb
David Slade wanted to go totally different from the first two which is why it's not as passionate he wanted to do a more darker side to Twilight. I dont like the abrupt cuts from scene to scene it was just too choppy and it didn't flow like the other two but I still loved it. DS was a good director and Bold for making it so different from the first two.

Cindygal said...

@AP you raised some very interesting points next time i go watch the movie I'll try to see what you talking about.Overall I really enjoyed Eclipse...@AP please elaborate more on the inconsistency of style and mood!

alynutzapattinson said...

After reading some of your comments I do realize now why some of the fans don't like the movie. I think that the main reason is that you guys are overgeneralizing it. Ofcorse that if you take every sentence from the book and expect to be in the movie you will be disappointed.
I always said that the problem with these movies is Melisa Rossenberg. I would have loved to have another screenwriter for the next two movies, but this is what we get.
The problem is that we all want what Stephenie wrote to be the exact lines they use in the movies because after all we are in love with the books in the first place, but I don't think that we will get that with Rossenberg...
And after reading your comments I do realize that I would have loved for one scene in the movie to be more like in the book. The scene after Bella/Jacob kiss. Both Kristen and Rob said that that scene is one of their favorites to shoot, and after seeing it I don't understand why because it is almost nonexistent.
Overall, as I said before I really really loved the movie. I have to see it again but I don't think I will change my mind:D

~~ROBsessedtotheMAX~~ said...

OMG i just noticed Rob's voice is sooo much deeper in this movie... it is starting to sound like the velvet voice described by Bella in the books!.... Totally love it :D

I felt a little like Jackson watched True Blood to get some Vampire Bill southern. But he looked so much better in this one than in the other two. Next I see Eclipse I will be looking for some of the points y'all have brought up. Still be distracted by Rob, of course, but maybe I can pay more attention to some of the other stuff too.

Monique said...

I saw it again today. Loved it even more. I know what AP is say about the scenes ending abruptly.

Love all the E/B scenes... they were just so loving when they are together. I enjoy those scenes. Edward's bedroom, the proposal... his protective stand around Victoria... Action scenes with Robert was excellent. Love, love the Cullen family. They are all so protective of each other. Love PF/Carlisle even more. Emmett... now that is a man with muscles that I could get behind.

Jacob... When Edward said that he should wait for Bella to ask for him to kiss her next time... the arrogant way he said that "She will" makes me grind my teeth down an inch. I found him selfish, minipulativie, rude and pushy.. I didn't feel sorry for him one bit... when he was lying in that bed... I am glad that they end the movie with another amazing meadow scenes.

I think I'll get another friend to go see it with me, can't seems to get enough of Robert on big screen... I just can wait for the DVD.

perfect Rob said...

I saw Eclipse yesterday and it was amazing !!!
It was a complete movie, with action , romance,suspence, drama everything was there.
Rob , oh Rob ...how perfect can a man be? And he was all man in this movie. with the most unique facial expressions you have ever seen ...i just love him!!!
The stories of Jasper and Rosalie were so nice and needed to be said this way and all the Cullens were included this time something that i missed in New Moon. All the scenes with Charlie were very refreshing, he's really good !
the proposal scene was perfect but then again every scene with Rob was ahhh...so hot and sweet !well
i need to see them again as soon as possible!
What i wish i didn't have to see is hurtward by Bella...i mean ,the movie was like the book more than the other two , i think, BUT there were two or three scenes that bugged me soooo much NOT the J B kissing scene , i was expecting that it was :
1)Bella leaving Edward with Jacob's bike
2)Bella shouting (??)at Edward that DON'T and getting away from him to go to J before the kiss and
3)i couldn't believe it when i heard Bella saying that wanting to be a vampire wasn't only because of wanting to be with Edward forever...

"so it's not all about me?"
"no .sorry..."

in the book THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT her love for EDWARD ,EVERYTHING IS ABOUT HIM!!!!!

"Everything in my world was about him. What a silly thing to expect"

Don't get me wrong i loved the movie but having read the books i was just as dissappointed as "erpatz"...
I have to see it again though ,because of Rob and hope that his perfect smile will make it all go away ...he sooo good !!!
but then again Rob is always perfect,oh my Perfect Rob!!!

sorry for my English and sorry for the long post...

i watched the movie yesterday and i really have to say that eclpse includes great disappoinments for me.....
Of course robward was just GREAT...By far the best movie for rob as edward in every section!!!
the battles were really good and in general the production and the direction were the best so far...
But.....i really have to admit that yesterday...i mainly watched a new love story...the one between jake and bella..i really didn;t like it...it's different when you read a book,where you have every detail of the story and it's different when you have only 2 hours to show everything..
Kristen was anything but good.unfortunately...you could not understand the difference in what she feels for edward and what she feels for jake...edward was there...as a data and we watched all about the hake and bella thing!!!
The worst part was the scene between edward and bella after she kissed jacob...By far the worst scene of the three movies...they could show so much more than that crap we saw...Sorry for my english...i am greek..my name is xristina.

~~ROBsessedtotheMAX~~ said...

I have to agree that the scene between Bella and Edward after the kiss with Jacob Bella was supposed to be more regretful and afraid that edward was going to hate her after kissing Jake... I would have loved a fuller scene... and Kristen didn't show any of the UNDYING all mighty love she is supposed to feel for Edward. I felt there was more love shown from edward to bella than from Bella to edward.

Unknown said...

i totally agree with you,totally!!!
there was edward who loved uncoditionally bella and thanks to rob and his performance that ow apparent and there was bella...but you could not say what she really wants...not even at the end of the movie.....i mean..it was surely kristen's bad performance but i think that there is more...they wanted to be seen in that way....in the end,if i had not read the books...i would have thought that bella chose edward not because she was the love of her life but mainly because the world of vampires is the world she wants to live in....and jake could not give her that..

Girls, girls, I realize this might sound alittle strange since this is "ROBSESSED" but don't you think maybe you all are over analyzing the movie just alittle. It's a movie not RL. It's an adaptation of a book. It was very well done. Give it and yourselves a break!!! :)

@cerulean blue
i agree with AP
Kristen even said in an interview that the David didn't know much about the story so he had to basically learn the characters through Them.. he wasn't much in tune with everything. So I'm not going to say he wasn't passionate about it because he is a great director I just think there was more focus on making Eclipse just completely different from Twilight and New Moon. Bella is 'unconditionally and irrevocably' in love with Edward but it didn't show in this film. In the book Bella describes Edward as being so much more than a boyfriend or even a husband,but in the movie thats how he was treated was just like a regular boyfriend and NOT someone she would give up her life for like in the book.

less bella's emo in E/B relation
i feel like it's ordinary human/human relationship not human/vampire
lack of anybody's P.O.V
and impact of XXI century in Rossenberg's lines that somtimes sound's artificially and against whole series

hi monique,i so agree with you,i coild of never stand jacob or fell sorry for him,he had to much hatred in him and jealously,i believe if he only knew bella was going to pick humble,jacob would of try to kill edward,even though jacob was edward's enemy edward could never bring harm to jacob,jacob was the most selfish arrogant jealous fool,and you know something the cullens could of made jane and they wipe them out,in fact jane alone could of kill every last one of the wolfpack

I liked Eclipse, but there was a lot I didn't like, most of which you all are expressing, so well in your comments.

I will add that the eroticism of the book between Edward and Bella really doesn't come across in the movie. The sexual angst is much more conventional and held back compared to the book.

Think of the passion in The Notebook or in Remember Me - both PG-13. The kissing between Edward and Bella in Eclipse was sensual but not really erotic/desperate/urgent. Sometimes I felt like it was Kristen kissing Rob and she was embarrassed and didn't want to display PDA - I mean, come on - we all remember how we felt about Edward in the books and I just didn't feel it from Kristen. It was as if she had settled on Edward and already was a little bored with her choice.

There really was no leg hitch in this movie - I remember when I read leg hitch in the book and it was amazing and all there was here was his hand on her thigh.

Edward was basically weaker in the movie. I did hate it when Bella said "No" to Edward after Jake found out they were getting married. In the book, Edward says "I never said I would play fair" - much stronger convictions.

Does Robert agree to play a weaker Edward? Does Melissa and Summit want to build up Jacob so they can fit the whole media campaign of Team Jacob or Edward?

Okay, I have to throw into this long over drawn commentary, that I love Rob. My favorite was the tent scene - his beauty is beyond compare. The last meadow scene - Rob, why so beautiful?

As you say, possibly a more difficult book to translate and also possibly some editing issues....I'll copy your comments so I can refer to them when I see it again :-)

@AP @Totally @Cherry @Shaffie @papagáj ITA with you guys...thanks God iam not alone.

I watched it 2 times...as Movie, Eclipse so much entertaining, the redline in story is much more better than Twilight and NM.

but as a reader of the books I feel something "missing", the intese/deep love Bella on Edward didnt happened in the movie.

@alynutzapattinson ...Yeah I blame on Melisa Rosenberg too.

PrettyBrownEyes said...

I'm not a fan of Jacob but in this movie it was really Bella that kind of pissed me off. I hate the fact that when Jacob would do intentional things to try to make Edward mad she would kind of just blow it off and not make a big deal about it,but when Edward did it she would basically snap at him. After the tent scene when Jacob overhears their conversation and finds out she is going to marry him and Jacob gets all upset and Edward tries to tell her to just let him leave she pulls away from him and just leaves him standing there. He just looked so hurt in that scene. Jacob was so manipulative in this movie like just because he helped her through a tough time he deserved her love as repayment. I hated that a real friend would have just been happy for her and set their feelings aside as long as she was happy but he just couldn't let it go. there never was a choice it was ALWAYS Edward.

sorry for blabbering but I was pissed watching that scene

Cheeky Chops said...

OK, eagle eye will tune in. Slade has a bigger span, period. Watch "30 days of night". Twilight is close, intimate, and so is "New Moon". With this movie; we're bringing it back. Bring the camera back, watch everything unfold, including the characters. I thought when I saw "Twilight" and "New Moon" too; TOO CLOSE. Too intimate. That's not what ppl wanna see now a days. We're more intelligent than that. We want the whole story. The whole picture. Take a step back, look outside of the box, and he did it. We want it all, and he gave us that. It's not just about Edward and Bella anymore, and to tell the truth; it never was. It's a story about many different characters. SM should get down on her knees and thank Slade for making this film. He's the only one that has given her books any credit/justice.

Cheeky Chops said...

Also, if there was lack of passion...

It was between the actors. Not the ppl that made the film. I spotted it and kept my mouth shut, until now. There wasn't any passion, you're right.

Roblove said...

Well, I've seen it tonight and I can't say I'm impressed :( I'm sorry but Kristen's acting made the Eclipse nonsensical.
Robert shows appropriate emotions but Kristen looks bored ,cold, and everything but in love with Edward.
It's all about Bella and Jacob.

Next problem - Edward is becoming a damsel in distress... and all of his scenes were rushed and lacked substance... idk I can't put my finger on it right now.

The movie is ok, but it's telling another story.

Cheeky Chops said...

Kristen and Jacob's was HOT. I'll tell ya right now. Breaking Dawn is gonna suck. LOL

I agree with Cerulean. I've only seen it once but left thinking that it was adequate. I didn't dislike it but found it lacking unlike Twilight & New Moon. There was no soul to it. There was only one scene that brought any emotion to me and that was the proposal scene & only b/c Edward was so happy. The rest was flat to me and other than Rob looking so foin' I would have to say "adequate". Maybe I'll see something I missed when I watch it again. Also, they need to let Bella smile occasionally...they've made her such a debbie-downer. Who would want to be with that all the time?

I saw it this afternoon at an IMAX theatre. Did anyone else here see it at an IMAX? It's very up close and in your face watching it and it did not work well. The make-up and vampire contacts were very distracting AND because Slade made it with many close shots and nearly claustrophic scenes, like some moody character-driven indie, I got lost and I'm going to say it, bored! Have to agree about the editing and continuity. I was expecting a lot more. And frankly, I know this is heresy, I don't give a rat's ass about sticking to the books, sometimes you gotta diverge to create entertainment on the big screen. Some books are harder than others to achieve that and Stephenie's may be too difficult, yet they have the mandate to stick to them. No matter WHO the director or the screenwriter in this franchise, it's going to come down to the source material which they cannot digress from or alter, so with hands tied, the directors' try to remain faithful and create an interesting, entertaining, visual depiction, in their style, to get the Twihards in the seats and hopefully others for the $$. I'll watch it again for sure, on a smaller screen. There were little things I loved about it, but overall I felt it was a fail in terms of delivering an interesting, engaging film for all viewers. And, another heresy, I thought Taylor did a great job as Jacob, kudos to him. As for Rob, the make-up really irritated me, and the contacts in his eyes (even if I didn't know his problem with them) looked painful (this was on IMAX). I saw a version of Edward, sometimes consistent, but not his best performance, with a few exceptions (angry Edward, sensitive/romantic Edward). Not his fault! I don't think he got the support or had the rapport with Slade and frankly it shows.

jmm4832 said...

I guess I'm one of the few, but I saw more passion between Edward and Bella in Eclipse than in New Moon. I also thought Kristen's acting improved in Eclipse. I would have liked to have seen more scenes between Rob and Kristen. I liked how Bella in the movie was written as stronger than the character in the book. Sometimes her helplessness really irked me. Taylor did a good job portraying Jacob as he was written in the book.

I felt much more love/devotion from all in New Moon > The Voltorie scene where Bella screams that they kill her & not Edward (awesome) and the look on Edward's face when he kisses her for the last time in the woods b/f he leaves and Edward's reaction when she saves him at the clock tower and all her pain when he leaves...much more of the good stuff in New Moon...and Twilight was crammed with it. I'm sure I'll enjoy watching Eclipse again and again being a fan of the story but it was lacking in Twihard red meat (love, longing, passion and romance). IMHO.

Monique said...

Cherry... I meant your post rocks.

And you are welcome.

Note to self... must proof read before hitting the publish button.

Some of you guy are seriouly killing my buzz. I enjoyed all the B/E and the Cullens, Charlie, humans scenes.

And considering the scriptwriter and her obvious fondness for the Jacob character... they will alway short change Bella/Edward's character. Even the SM tell of her fondness for that character. I've read that other author loves all the character and don't favor or short change one for the other.

I could be wrong... I've not read all Author's notes.

AP said...

@Cherry: about Jacob and BDawn - keep thinking they have a problem now with the whole Team rivalry and the ‘sell’ of Jacob that has played out so far. They can’t use that in BD, aside from Jacob’s jealousy and anger in the initial part of the book. It's all about Renesmee, and so I wonder what the spin will be...lol

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@sparkle
I agree there was much more devotion and love in the first two
but I still liked Eclipse,I just didnt feel the passion and connection anymore between them [E&B] and I'm not trying to bash David Slade he did an excellent job in taking it to a new level with all of the action and everything and making everything come together. I saw it the first night it came out in IMAX and it was just creepy when they did all of the close ups on their eyes. It looks so much better from a distance but that was my only problem.

@Monique
yeah I think we all need to work on the proofreading before we hit 'publish comment' I know I do I type entirely too fast so I mess up a lot.

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@AP
honestly I've never understood the whole 'TEAM' thing anyway ?
I think it mostly started from people who hadn't read the books and just watched the movies,because for all of us who read the books before the movies were made already knew that there was never a choice she had to make because like I said before it was ALWAYS Edward.
&& I also wonder what Bill Condon is going to do with BD and the whole Jacob part??
guess we'll have to wait and see.

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@sparkle
LOL! 'caution light yellow'
love it !
you are so right the eyes were just too much for me. Robward's eyes looked the best in the proposal scene they were darker but still beautiful but that was the only time I liked them.
as far as Victoria goes I think Bryce Dallas Howard did a pretty good job but I felt she made Victoria seem too innocent and sweet.. Rachelle LaFevre the last Victoria was much more intense and cold and she was the perfect person to play it so yeah I understand what you mean.

PhinPhan said...

One good line they missed was when Jacob was laid up w/ broken bones and Bella said Edward was not playing a game....and Jacob said something like..Oh he's playing, he just knows what he's doing and I don't. Loved that!

@lallieb
It's funny you mention that I have always wondered that same thing
why not replace screenwriter like they do directors ??

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@sparkle

AP said...

@Lallieb: no, actually I think Melissa is a talented and experienced screenwriter. Thought she did a great job with Dexter. I think she had a difficult task in adapting this book into a screenplay that would run c 2 hours or so, and had to be to some extent a stand alone movie. I feel some of those difficulties weren't entirely resolved. Yes, she is approved by Stephenie so there won't be a change. However, Bill Condon is also an excellent writer so there may be more flexibilty while filming.

Oh well..we'll always have the books which fulfill every romantic requirement and contain all the necessary nuances. And! And! we have Rob so that when read the books we can put a face (a very lovely one)and a voice (a very sexy one) to the character. We must be thankful for that :-)

@sparkle
EXACTLY !
and even if the books aren't enough to fulfill our needs[whatever they may be]
(wink wink)
there is always Fanfiction lol

I was reading everyone's comments earlier and became depressed, so I watched a good movie. I came back again hoping for more positive happier posts. But after reading everyone's depressing analysis, I'll be gone again and wait for other subject to read and comment on.
You girls are just too picky picky for me... I enjoyed the movie so much and feel like you are spoiling it. Don't intend to be mean but I think the screen plays have been well done. The books have been interpreted well, much better than most are. etc etc etc
Please put on a happy face and enjoy!

I agree. I always think about what I have from this Twilight experience that I can hold on to- what speaks to me and then let the rest go.

I will always love Edward from the books - to my dying day. There has never been a character like him. I will always picture Rob as my Edward in the books.

That is a lot to be grateful for.

PhinPhan said...

I've read some of it but it is mostly forgetable. I did like one, I think it was Dark Side of the Moon. The rest was erotica (which has its place) using Twilight characters in strange times and circumstances. I don't like my Twilight besmirched though. It's kind of like reading that Romeo & Juliet met in a different life and enjoyed threesomes or something. It ick-ifies the characters. Have you read anything worth recommending?

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@olejp
I'm sorry that you feel that way
it was never my intent to just rip the movie to shreds I wasn't trying to do that at all. I kept saying I loved the movie I've seen it three times already and I plan to see it again. I was just simply giving my opinion on things I liked and didn't like about it.
This IS a spoiler thread so thats why I talked about the Spoilers and things that I thought 'spoiled' the movie so I wont apologize for doing that, but it was never my intent to be a buzz kill for anybody, it was a great movie just very different from the first two but that was what David Slade wanted to do anyway turn the story around in another direction and he did just that,and he did an excellent job.

PhinPhan said...

Yes girls, don't post your real thoughts and feelings. Fake some enthusiasm for the good of others. That's just silly.

@sparkle
'romeo and juliet met in a different life and enjoyed threesomes' lol
yeah u are cracking me up tonight
but that is true.
I've read a lot of different ones.
I would have to say the best one I probably would recommend to you
[if I could remember the name]
was a story that wasn't even about Edward and Bella it was
about Jacob and Renesmee kind of like a sequel to Breaking Dawn when Renesmee got older and Jacob and her coukd finally be together, I wish I could remember the name it was really good..LONG but good.

I agree Lolli. Edward's character is one of the most unusual and lovable that I've ever read. The character of Rhett Butler in the book GWTW is another unforgettable, romantic figure and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights. They are all out of the norm. Dangerous and broken and passionate and dark and in love to the depths of their souls (I'm sure Edward has a soul).

I liked Edward far better than Rhett Butler and Heathcliff, although I did love them and appreciated a multi-dimensional characters. But Edward was special to me because he not only did not give in to his baser sde, he was ashamed of it; Rhett dismissedhs and twnkled his eyes about it as if it were a joke, and heathcliff held back so as not to hurt Cathy, but then totally gave in after she died. Edward for a short time rationalized killing humans if they were bad, but even that he could not deal with, because he really was good.
Also, in an odd way, Edward reminded me of Pinocchio, wanting to be a real boy, findng his blue fairy in Bella who turned everything upside down by wanting to be as unreal as he.

PhinPhan said...

Rhett does that only b/c if he lets Scarlett know of his love it would be the undoing of him. She would then use that knowledge to wield her power over him and break him.

solas said...

oh, I know that part--I was thinking about the other rascally stuff he does, like the politics, the illegal stuff.
And I felt for him terribly when Scarlett was moaning n her illness (?)/sleep(?)for Ashleigh, especialy at the time she actually had come to really love Rhett. :-( I am such a sucker for love. :-( I want everyone to love and live happily ever after.

Comments back to AP and Cerulean Blue especially, I think.

If you're only looking for "great movie" comments you better skip mine.

I just came back from my first viewing of Eclipse and I have to say, what a let down it was for me. Yes, of course, Edward is so beautiful it's almost painful to look at him. But what in the world is going on with all the full screen close ups? I don't recall seeing more than one brief shot of Charlie's house and never more than tight establishing shots of Emily's and Billy's too not to mention getting a feel for Forks, or even the Cullen's home. When we are outside,, we miss the trees, the beach, the open beauty so big a part of the feel of the books (and first movies) and when we're inside we're tight on the faces again and rarely feel a sense of time or place. The first and second movies, so different from each other, in style and color, did establish a great mood and setting that we, as viewer, could relate to. The close-ups,,, even though the actors were all so beautiful. didn't give us a setting to belong to: to join. As a viewer, I was sitting there waiting to connect somewhere to this story. It didn't happen. The disjointed story lines jumped us from spot to spot and left me feeling that its several story lines never really met. We don't feel Victoria's true hatred of Edward and Bella (as the original Victoria exhibited down to her fake smile.) We see more of Jasper, but feel so little of the soulmate attraction of Alice... Do we even see Emmett and Rosalie really together,,, or Carlisle and Esme? Our beloved Cullens don't even seem to like each other very much in this one.

Robert was perfect, as always, but had way too little of solid dialogue (other than close up tent and proposal scenes) and I think we barely even see his whole body more than a few minutes in the whole movie, even in the fight scenes. Taylor, on the other hand, comes across as a total actor here. His scenes are filled with emotion (love and hate and anger and even regret) while Robert isn't given much of a chance to feel more than disappointment. (I'm not saying he's done a bad job,,, he didn't, but I do think that he could have really shone with a stronger script and more imaginative camera work and final editing.)

Kristen did look great in the close ups... better than ever, I think, and her acting was strong, but again,,, some of the pivotal scenes on understanding Bella were diminished in a script attempt to summarize and fit it all the book's plot points.

I know that no film can stand up to scrutiny against its book,,, but I saw the first two films before reading the books, but without a knowledge of the third book, I would have been so lost and confused by this third installment.

Sorry, but this was a let down for me, and I noticed that the audience response around me was much the same. Summit has done another bang up job of marketing the opening weekend, even down to placing the cast in theaters around the country, but for the last one, I'll be much less anxious to join in.

Ok, I haven't changed my opinion since yesterday. Kristen was terrible, ('he's my whole life', girl, you look like you don't care, 'you'll be alone with Edward' - blank, slightly annoyed face, after the J/B kiss.. etc etc). Her best scene was the one with her mum. She did much better job in the first two films.
What I don't understand is the appreciacion of Taylor. I thought he was terrible as well, so out of his element, like a random guy trying to act. He had a couple of slightly less wooden moments, but ... I'm sorry.. He had the best, most interesting/emotional scenes in this movie, maybe that's why you think he did a great job. I don't know. Both Kristen and Taylor left me annoyed, Kristen underplayed the romance with Edward, Taylor was nothing more than his robotic self, even Robert had a few weak moments(too much slouching). Uhhh...
The movie is decent, quite interesting, but it lacks any emotional truth or depth.

"Robward's eyes looked the best in the proposal scene they were darker"
looked orange to me :O

As for Bryce Dallas Howard, I think she did a good job (the fury was spot on) but Rachelle's Victoria was more dangerous and bada$$.

@emma

I agree.
I really like Kristen, but her Bella in Eclipse was honestly not good.
She utters her lines with the same dull voice in almost every scene, it´s disturbing, and it spoilt a lot of the movie for me.
She looks so unhappy all the time.....Girl, you are in f***ing love with this guy!!!
Do us a little favor next time around and show it!
Robs Edward improved a lot IMO....he smiles, he is angry, there is something in his eyes....and I don´t mean the contact lenses. ;)

I really liked the proposal scene tough, well played from both of them....really sweet and honest.....and I felt the emotional connection between the two of them in that scene.

The lovetriangle was OK. They could have worked it out better tough, with just a few more lines like maybe from Edward to Jakob after the unwanted Kiss: "I´m not taking anything for granted, I will fight for her as well."

And then after Edward let Jakob know that they where getting married, he should have said: "I didn´t say that I would fight fair."

That would have made Jakobs: "Damn it, he is better than I thought." at the end a little bit more logical....IMO.

I really did not like Kristen's acting. She showed no love towards Edward and just acted bored with him. People that only saw the movie and did not read the book thought that her true love was Jacob but she chose Edward instead just so that she can be immortal (for herself, not necessarily to be with Edward forever).

Robert was spot on as Edward and showed so much tenderness and love towards Bella. I was just very upset that Kristen showed more emotions in her scenes with Taylor but acted all bored and forced in her scenes with Robert.

Roblove said...

maja77, I agree. This movie was quite faithful to the book yet some scenes just didn't make any sense because of the bad acting, bad editing or screenwriting.

PhinPhan said...

Scarlett did not call or moan for Ashley during her miscarriage and near death episode. She just didn't call for Rhett even though he was on her mind :-( They were at cross purposes throughout.

solas said...

It's been over 35 yrs since I read it, but I had in my mind she was moaning for or about Ashlegh, but Rhett interpreted it as her wanting Ashleigh still, which she ddn't.

PhinPhan said...

It's one of my favs and I've read it many times. Rhett felt guilty for the accident & needed her to forgive, but she never called for Ashley and she thought Rhett did not love her and wouldn't come to her. So enough w/ GWTW. The End :)

solas said...

I suppose I could say, Frandkly I don't give a darn. ;-) but I actually now have to go searching to figure out why I am picturing her moanng Ashleigh's name (from a dream) which Rhett misnterpreted.

PhinPhan said...

Well, she did covet Ashley which is the central problem of the story, but she didn't cry out for him in the presence of Rhett at any time other than at Melanie's funeral when she went to him in their shared grief. You should reat it again b/c I think you'll find Rhett to be a fantastic character with many great romanic qualities. The movie is not faithful to the book although it is of course classic. As far as Heathcliff, you cannot help but love someone so painfully in love.
