We remember September 11, 2001

"Thanks for bailing me out..." "No problem."

I end the movie there.

I've been cheating on Los Angeles with New York City since I was a child. My mother was born there and family still resides. I've visited the vibrant city my whole life. If it wasn't expensive and I wasn't completely dysfunctional under long-term cold elements, I would live there.

I love New York.

Even though I can never watch the ending of Remember Me or bring myself to rewatch real footage, I'll never forget what happened in that beautiful city.

The issue for us mods was how does a Robert Pattinson blog pay respects to the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The anniversary is emotional and we have a large community of readers who might find comfort in one another on this day. So we want to look at the fictional role Rob embraced that ended up reflecting so many true stories. Your stories.

Reflect with us after the cut...

The Unofficial Remember Me fansite was able to speak to Rob on the red carpet of the premiere and asked what needed to happen for him to consider the film a success. His response was he hoped people who watched the film would keep an open mind. Click HERE to view the interview. Rob had many hopes that people would be receptive to the film and the message but unfortunately, many people were not. 9/11 is too painful and Remember Me was a direct hit to what made it painful for everyone: You're just living your life, the good bad and ugly, and then something abruptly happens that alters that life forever. A part of your life is stolen from you. That's why Remember Me hurts me so much. The characters are fictional but are they really?

One review that applauded the the courage of the film nailed it:
This movie presented events in a way no other film has dared to try, the same way we lived it, without knowing and without warning.
Nearly 3000 people died on that day. Countless numbers survived but were not unscathed. CNN created an online memorial as a record to those that died on 9/11. If you wish, click HERE to visit their page and remember those we lost.

But the number 2,977 carries with it not only the people who died in New York, Washington DC, Pennsylvania and the victims on the planes, but also the people who escaped, the loved ones left behind, the country that still mourns and the world that will never forget.

For over a year, Jessegirl contributed numerous articles to the RM fansite that were insightful, thorough, and emotional. Many of you might have been following the site and the articles as they were written but they are worth a revisit. Worth a reflection. Remember Me was a beautiful film that asks you to remember Tyler's life but deeper than that, to remember the real people he represents. "Our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch." When I see the film and I look at Tyler, I think about all the real lives who were touched and the real lives that were lost. Kat compiled images from the film that best reflect the moments in life.

I love New York.

Whenever I've flown there, I've looked out the window as the plane lands so I can see the skyline.

As a kid, it was all about the lights.
As a teenager, it was all about the landmarks.
As a young adult, it was all about pointing out the different neighborhoods I was going to kick it.
At 31, it's all about a happiness I feel as I look out the window knowing I'll see my family and friends.

I just came back from a trip there in August with my best friend. Every day I saw loved ones. We ate too much, glamorized public transportation, saw a Broadway show, cheered for the Yankees, visited the Met, ran in the rain....and everyday I went to the roof of my hotel to look at the skyline that still romances me. Here is a my visual ode to New York from that trip.

When I walk the streets, the buildings and structures stop me...

The Met & entrance to Washington Square park. My best friend and I sat in the park wondering when it became a nudist park. Oh those NYU kids...

Peanuts and cracker jacks? Pfft. Garlic rolls keep you coming back. We stared this man down until he sacrificed one.
So brazen...

I return to New York for Thanksgiving. I reserved tickets to visit the 9/11 memorial. Click HERE if you'd like to reserve or donate. Since 9/11, I try to make my way down to Ground Zero when I visit. I've seen it's changes over the past 10 years and paid my respects. My last trip, I tried to go again but something always happened:

A friend trying to catch up with us to meet for lunch.
A spontaneous decision to take the half-off tickets to a show.
A desire to check out the new stadium.
A hangover keeping us bed-ridden for half the day.
A downpour that kept us sipping cocoa in SoHo.
A subway that got delayed.

Life was happening. So I'll visit Ground Zero again when it's not longer Ground Zero but a rebirthing of Lower Manhattan. With it's peaceful reflection pools and powerful waterfalls. With its absence of dirt and emptiness and its abundance of trees and people.

I remember 9/11. Share with us what you remember.
