VIDEO: Robert Pattinson talks about his dad giving him a phobia of combing hair and producing films

Talking Pictures talks to Rob during the LA Press Junket for Breaking Dawn Part 2 and we got some cool info! My favorite is the bit about his dad combing his hair and the producer tease :)

Highlights:
  • Can't get a tan and why does he have a phobia about cutting his hair?
  • Mentions busy filming year for 2013
  • What's it like to say goodbye?
  • He's trying to get stuff together as a producer!
  • Sweet goodbye :')

Hmmmmm wonder what film Rob's going to produce....
*mind explodes at possibilities* Oh! Oh! And didn't it seem like the directing window is open at the very least? The way he said it made it seem like way down the road, that could happen. :D

my god, he's adorable. not sure that anyone here needs to be told about that though...

Good thing I didn't log out or else I wouldn't know what to do with this new set up..

Looking forward for producer Rob again after doing a great job for RM.

And the thing with his dad brushing his hair when he was young, melt my bitchy heart.I could only imagine the time when it is gonna be Rob's turn lovingly brushing his son's hair..

Gozde said...

funny comment about his dad

Gozde said...

So, we all like this interviewer, right? :-)

Gozde said...

right :) i think it was awesome...from the cute bit about his dad to the producer tease to the sweet words for humble Rob at the end.

Gozde said...

The mystery of the hair is solved. I just want to hug Daddy Pattinson and thank him...it is because of him we are graced with the sex hair today. Rob has been amazing in these interviews, so humble, funny, and sexy. Love seeing all the smiles and hearing all the giggles :)

Producing posibilites...
And adaptation of "Money" by Martin Amis, playing the role of John Self? Or a remake of "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand, playing the role of Howard Roarke? Altho I would imagine these wouldn't be projects he'd tackle until at least 30. My dream role for him would be Michael Valentine Smith in Robert Heinlein's "Stranger In A Strange Land". Hollywood's been dicking around with this story for 50 years now and they've come up with bupkis. But man, was Robert Pattinson BORN to play that role (if I ever win the lottery, to hell with a mansion. I'm putting an ad in Variety and THR saying...I got the ca-ching, let's finally get this adaptation done). And yeah, I fully expect to him screenwriting and directing one day. With a mind like his, coupled with his creativity, I just cannot see him spending a career exclusively as a 'gun for hire' by others. Cos I think this man's got something to say.

Gozde said...

Wow, I love that the interviewer took the time to say that about Rob at the end. Rob and his humble self is incredibly sexy and sweet and intuitively I know that Rob will do many more things in his career than merely act, he will producing, direct, and writ, his career is really just beginning with all the possibilities ahead for him.

Gozde said...

It seems like always you are spot on and good luck with the lottery, I would really like to see that happen.

Gozde said...

After watching hours of interviews with Robert..................I have a few words to say about Robert Pattinson:
Kind, classy, creative, talented, musical, careful, loyal, appreciative, deep, handsome, humble, smart, humorous, popular, one of a kind, funny, lovable, unique, dedicated, intelegent, strong, adorable, Edwards/ultra ego………….my list goes on and on. We are so fortunate to have experienced watching this talented young man’s career blossem right before our eyes. I wish he were one of my grandchildren. Sometimes, I feel like he is. Rob, great interview, as always.

Gozde said...

That was so sweet. He was so cute with that guy! So genuine...how can anyone not like him!

Gozde said...

I never read stranger in a strange land. What's the story?

Gozde said...

Omg,what happened to the blog....I suppose change is good, just gotta learn how to use it.

Gozde said...

what happened to this comments section?

Gozde said...

I think it will take a while before he starts directing or producing movies

Gozde said...

Read it cold--don't look it up, don't ask for a summary; don';t even read the blurbs on the cover! But read it!

Gozde said...

change is NOT always good! Change is good when it's for the good, not just for the sake of change. ANd some changes are plain not good. And then changes back to what was are better.

It's the story of a baby boy, the son of space explorers on a three year journey to Mars, where he is born and raised in this alien culture after the crew (including his parents) perish. 25 years later, another expedition from earth is sent back to Mars to find out what happened and they discover the adult Michael. They bring him back to earth where he learns to adapt and acclimate himself back into the culture of his heritage as he learns what it is to be human. In essence, author Heinlein holds a mirror up to human culture and it's not a very pretty picture. The character of Michael is an extrodinary one. Etherally beautiful, as innocent as a new born babe and very dangerous. If Michael senses a "wrongness" he will "discorporate" (kill) someone without dispatch. Because to Michael, physical death is nothing. It's just the discorporation of the physical body and that the soul basically gets back in line for another go round. Not a big deal. Michael is human but he thinks "martian". This book was published in 1961 and helped to usher in the counter culture (the hippies) of the 1960's. The story advocates communal living, free love (but only with spiritual "mates") and the nudity involved is quite liberal. It was very controversial 50 years ago and I would imagine in these conservative and judgemental times, it would remain so. Whoever portrays Michael must be physically beautiful, be able to portray both abject innocense yet uncalculating danger AND hold the screen with such a charasmatic presence, that you cannot take your eyes off him. Until Rob Pattinson came along, the only actor I ever thought could play him was Johnny Depp, but at nearly 50, the role has passed him by. Rob is the right age, the right look, the right qualites and the right screen presence. I am as sure of this as anything I've ever been sure of. And I'm not kidding...if I came into some substantial money, I would wave it around in effort to try to get this film made.

Gozde said...

It kind of touched me, too. I love what you wrote, and I hope the same for ROb, being gentle with his children. My mother used to pull and tug at my hair (which was long and got knotty for some reason) and would yell at me if I cried. It was torture every day. ANd so when I had children, i lovingly and gently brushed their hair. And then my older daughter grew up and tugged and harshly brushed her girls' hair. :-( My son's wife is expecting their first child, but my son was a soldier and very tough and dismissive of pain (and still has regulation haircut) . I am hoping that his toughness will not extend to his children, and that he will be gentle.

Gozde said...

I am loving the multitude of Rob interviews. This is the last time we will get so much. Any movie he does after this. Probably wont have the PR intensity that the Twi saga has. So we should relish this Rob overload while we can.

Gozde said...

Oh. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. Do you think Rob could play Michael?

Gozde said...

Well he's already gotten his feet wet with an executive producer credit on Remember Me. He contributed to that script and had a say in casting. I fully expect him to be producing before he's 30 with writing and directing coming after that.

Gozde said...

That sounds fascinating. And from what you said about it, Robert does sound perfect for the part. I am surprised I never read it. I was an English major in college, so of course I had heard of it. But I mainly concentrated on medevil literature and poetry. I only took one modern american poetry class where I learned all about Alan Ginsberg and the Beat poets. Amd one early American literature class which focused on Washington Irving, Poe, and Hawthorne. But that's the extent of my American literature knowledge. I'm adding SAtranger in a Strange Land to my reading list.

Gozde said...

love the interviews... off subject - just saw the tv advertisement for BD2, it was GREAT!!!

Gozde said...

Thanks Nik, I'm always on the look out for a good read.

Gozde said...

I was always tended headed as a child and would just sob when my Mom came at me with the hair brush cos she could be brutal with that thing. As a result, I've always been very tender when brushing a child's hair. Something else she used to do...she'd either flip on the lights and YELL at us to get up or the worst...she'd reach under the blankets and painfully twist our toes and violently wake us up. Yeah, it felt like an assault. And to this day, I wake people up slowly and gently. No lights on and I lightly rub arms to bring them tenderly up out of sleep. And not just the kids, but the adults too. I just think it's extremely insensitive to 'jerk' people out of sleep. Even when I see this happen in a movie...I cringe.

Gozde said...

Could this man be anymore adorable? He's doing 101 interviews for BD2, gets the same questions asked and does a terrific job of answering them differently. What a guy.

Gozde said...

oh yeah that's right he is a wonderful and kind man ..

true that we don't know him personaly, but the way he express himself , shows how genuine he is, how honest this man is, he is not faking his words or behavior only to make people to like him , that's why we can see his soul directly thru his eyes ... ;)

Gozde said...

Mmmmmmmmmm so sweet. I really don't know who is responsible for this adorable man, his very good upbringing, his good heart or both.

Gozde said...

He is our little wonder. Like we used to say a gift from God to humanity.

Gozde said...

This is for SILVIE and CHRISTINE (thought it would be easier to answer you both in one post)...

It is a fascinating read but it would require a serious adaptation to get it up on the big screen as cultural additudes have changed quite a bit in 50 years. There's also a subplot that needs some re-evaluating and the ending...I dunno. I wasn't comfortable with the execution of it. So it definitely needs some work. And it's starts out slow, but stick with it cos you'll grow to love Michael very much. And wait until you discover what it is that Michael discovers that makes us human. It was my favorite moment in the book because...it's absolutely true. Hope you guys enjoy reading it and see if you don't picture Rob as you're doing so.

Gozde said...

Maybe you are right. But i still think he is in no rush. He seems to be the type of guy who thinks carefully before doing something important

Gozde said...

Same here I had very long hair when young and hated having it brushed by my mother.

Gozde said...

Parents have a lot to answer for for!

Gozde said...

I don't think he's in a mad dash either cos he's still in the learning process. But he's thinking about it cos he's mentioned all three...writing, directing and producing as where he eventually wants to go. And I think what he's doing right now is...observing. He's not only acting for these directors, he's watching them too. Studying them. And he already knows how to break down a script which is an essential skill if you're gonna write one. I also think that this cinephile he's become is not just about watching movies for entertainment but rather...he's studying them. He is in the process of learning how to actually make movies. Just my opinion.

Gozde said...

Yeah, this is probably it in terms of massive promotion, especially with him working predominately in the indies. But he could find himself in another tent pole production. I'd still love to see him play Gambit in the X-Men films (if you wanna go comic book, you go X-Men as they're still the rolls royce of the genre). Next to Wolverine, Gambit is the most popular X-Men of them all yet for some reason (except for a few scenes in the Wolverine spinoff), he's been virtually ignored. It's weird. And Rob would make a great Gambit. Remy is young, gorgeous, a scoundrel, a thief, a French charmer with a cajun accent who's in love with Rogue, the girl with the untouchable skin. And as I recall...Rob once said he'd be interested. So what the hell are you waiting for FOX? The man said he's interested.

Gozde said...

Hi dina65, so true. I like your comment "a gift from God to humanity" I always said "God don't make junk" well certainly not in Rob's case. ; )

Gozde said...

Great interview and the guy was really sweet at the end, with everything he said to Rob.There's anyone in their right minds who doesn't like Rob.

Gozde said...

glad you grok. Yes, he could. Not sure I would watch it, though.

Gozde said...

It is strange how things often go in cycles in the generations. My mother's mother was gentle with her; my mother was tough with me (but not with my sisters...)I was, I think out of that experience (treat others the way you wish to be treated), gentle with my children, the opposite swing of the pendulum, and my daughter, unfortunately, swung the other way again, more like my mother. It is especially odd considering her father was so abusive; you would think she would not want for her children what she suffered from him, and would want to giver her children what I gave. But unfortunately children who are abused often end up abusers.
My mother was not rough with waking us up, but she was very tough about us finishing our food, and if we did not finish our breakfast, she would put in the fridge and we would have to have it for lunch. Try cold cemented oatmeal for lunch when everyone else is having bread and butter or tuna and a salad! She did have mercy on me finally; she hid chocolate chips in my oatmeal and told me there would be a surprise if I ate my oatmeal. I was 4 and remember thinking -- yeah, sure-- but I knew if I didn't eat it, it would be worse as cold cement for lunch. So i dug in and sure enough got the chocolate chips, which kept me going to the bottom of the bowl!

When I was in my 30s and my mother appreciated me more (I drove her to shopping and such; she never got a license--most mothers didn't when I was a child and teen)I asked her why she was so tough on me, yelled at me if I cried, forced me to eat what i did not want, brushed my hair so harshly, assumed the worst and hit me for it even when I didn't do anything wrong (she would say, 'and if you didn't do it, that's for when you did something wrong that I didn't know about') and she said, she felt she needed to toughen to me up because it was a nasty mean world out there.
Sad.
I cringe whenever anyone is unkind or hurtful to a child. I don't even like it for adults.

Gozde said...

I was once in Rob's shoe my mom having 4 boys before me so when I was born she always fixed my hair until I was in the middle of my University year I begged her to let me do as I please with my hair.It was as sweet memory for me.They say the not so nice things the parent experienced in their younger years they don't want the repeat of that for their children so I wasn't surprised that you were gentle with your kids.As for your son maybe he is reserving the gentleness for his children..

Gozde said...

Awwww! That was super sweet! Even before this interview, I was thinking how most of the interviews so far have been with men and how truly into Rob and into Twilight the interviewers have been. I know Rob charms the pants off of every interviewer: male, female, straight, gay - just doesn't matter. How lovely that these guys will miss him and the experience. It has been a long time. Hopefully they will continue to be Rob supporters through all his endeavors. I've always thought Rob's interviews are a body of work in and of themselves. Cronenberg seems to agree since he watched interviews in order to judge whether he would be right for the role of Eric Packer.

Gozde said...

That was so sweet at the end and genuine :)

Gozde said...

Thankyou Nik,sound so interesting,I read alot

Gozde said...

I was dumbfounded with the change

Gozde said...

I started to tell my story Solas because you made me feel like it is OK to say such things.. but I chickened out... You are one lovely lady, bless you and yours x

Gozde said...

good comment X

Gozde said...

good comment

Gozde said...

Oh Solas...thank you for sharing. You have such a kind and gentle heart - which is lovely! And I'm so sorry you experienced what you did as a child. That kind of treatment could make anyone feel lonely, misunderstood, and unloved, to say the least! *hugs*

Gozde said...

Thanks Nik, I've actually just bought it, it's on my kindle right now. Weird to say that at the moment I'm reading "Money" which is also proving to be another interesting read. I'll read Stranger in A Strange Land when I finish Money. Sqquueeeeee just love all that Rob has inrtoduced us to from movies to books to music to ideas to friendships through Robsessed to developing computer skills to art work to becoming more aware about humility etc etc etc. OOps just rambling but Rob is such an interesting and exciting person.

Gozde said...

I have the same story. but it was not my mom, but my dad actully. he just believes the same thing . preparing fo tough world.

Gozde said...

I agree! And I love an interviewer who listens to Rob and tries not to ask the same old, same old. I could have had 30 minutes of that!!

Gozde said...

I know it must get really old, some of the same questions have been asked since the first film !!! I just think its nice that even the male interviewers can actually thank him and tell him that he is a nice guy and I think he probably appreciates that :)

Gozde said...

Oh bugger - I don,t how to reply from disqus (off the thread) now like before.

Gozde said...

Meaty story! I like the sound of that. It makes me think of Keanu Reeves in The Day the Earth Stood Still (I have erased Johnny Mnemonic from what brain cells I have left). Rob does not seem averse to genre-hopping and they're all racking up now: historical costume, fantasy romance, contemporary drama with romance, fantasy with wands, historical romance with a zoo, existential angst with sex and violence. Would love to see him in a movie toting a guitar or a cello. So much talent; self-belief is his only obstacle.

Gozde said...

I'm the same ABV - am all over the place with this new layout. Guess we'll get used to it eventually. It flicks you directly to reply comments in their original formats I notice, where before sometimes you'd click on a reply & it was at the top of the post & you lost the content of the thread - if you know what I mean.

Gozde said...

I agree Nik - I think he'll get stuck into producing within a couple of years. He's very clever & getting to know all the right people I believe. Nick too has a smart head on his shoulders and is putting Rob in all the right places. That's what I think anyways. DIrecting might be a ways down the road just yet but boy I look forward to everything this guy has to offer us. People are just possibly beginning to see that this guy has so much to offer - we saw it long ago!

Gozde said...

wise rat saviour says... 'get sleep while you can' lol..xx

Gozde said...

I would rather have him in front of a camera than behind it, so lets hope the Director idea is a long way off !!

Gozde said...

Wow, that sounds good - Rob are you reading this ?????

Gozde said...

Another man crush on Rob :-)

Gozde said...

I wouldn't expect him to hold off on the production side for very long either. I think he sees everything he is doing as a learning process, refining his skills, taking on board the structure of the business. He's always been interested in film, some very obscure films and directors have been mentioned by him in the past, and at an early age from what he said - he wasn't just 'watching filims'.

Gozde said...

OK....so the books I had lined up to read next have just gone on the back burner......
Thank you!!

Gozde said...

Yes parents pass on what they know, or believe. A lot of good comes with that too!
I used to spend ages doing my daughters' hair, gently I might add, and when they were little I used to give them a different hair style every day. They loved it too....their hair was never the same as their friends and they used to ask me sometimes to tell their friends mums how I did some of the styles as their own friends wanted it too. Then came sleeping in perm rollers for the desired curls for Irish Dancing....I used to worry all night at first that they would be in pain.....it never bothered them!!
Now my daughter has a god-daughter and she does the things with her that I did with my daughter (she is amazed that she wouldn't be doing them otherwise) She takes her out to play in the leaves in the autumn - the little girls mum says its too messy - my daughter just says THAT'S what wellies are for. She plays in the puddles with her. Makes snow angels in the winter, builds snow men and plays snowballs. This little girls is only 3yrs old!!! When you see this you KNOW that as a parent you got some things right!! :-)

Gozde said...

thanks for sharing Solas. good you are here with us !

Gozde said...

Thanks-- although this new format is really making me think to leave!

Gozde said...

It is a pity that sometimes, some of what people do out of love, wanting the best for their children, wanting them to survive and have a future, can be so mistaken, so hurtful, so wrong.

Gozde said...

Thank G-d, I don't feel lonely; I like my own company and I do have family who love me and good close friends. I don't feel misunderstood from my friends (my family, sometimes!) nor from children.
I survived my childhood because aside from having many good memories, too, and aside from being resilient, I was able to love my parents for the good, and put aside what was not good, just kept in mind to not do it to my own children. I think it was more bad marriages, and other really bad experiences in my life, that have caused me to retreat and be very wary.

Gozde said...

amen, thanks--I actually often edit after i have shared, because i share too much at first; writing with just a screen in front can be like writing a journal or doing self-introspection, only to be seen for what it is later--exposing one's self to the world. It is a bit like totally undressing on a very hot day, realizing too late as one walks into a room that someone left the curtains open.
However, if I think a comment might be helpful, if someone could get something, even a different perspective or a different way of looking at or dealing with things, then I will think it worth it.
Sometimes being there for people and giving of your self is worth the risk of self-exposure.

Gozde said...

Totally agree on all counts!

Gozde said...

I complained to DISQUS. Told them this dog is to old to learn new tricks. and absolutely hated the new format! I so hope others will do the same so maybe they will change it back.

Gozde said...

Arrived at that point of junket saturation when tales of childhood emerge for entertainment... ;-D No doubt there'll be more before the end, and I admit to enjoying the daze of lines and poses... ;-)

Gozde said...

We all know Rob is wonderful, but the story about the hair was sweet and touching. It is those little things that show how really sweet and lovely Rob is. I'm an older fan, so I hope I am still around in 20 years, that I will be able to have seen all the wonderful things Rob do with his life. His tenderness is amazing and he seems to carry his compassion and passion into everything he does.

Gozde said...

I realized I didn't see sexy on the list!

Gozde said...

Yes, I agree, I wrote an entire paragraph about things i wanted to share and then saw it as a mistake prior to posting. Exposing your past is daunting and I am glad that today I kept my business to myself. I felt that I would feel foolish, naked as you say and exposed.. I did not post today Solas...but cathartic is word that pops into my head .......x

Gozde said...

the interviewer was sweet .... I love the interviews with Rob, that's
the best thing about the promotion of the saga for me.

Gozde said...

okay is it me or is there something wrong here because the page is different I don't know if it is an error or what because the avi's are not big they are small and with that said hmmmmmmm I wonder what movie he is producing could it be with Wyatt(sp??) Godfery(one of the producers of The Twilight saga) I hope it is a movie that can be out nation wide *side too Rob you have NO idea what it is like too try and see a movie of yours(no not the twi saga) it is very diffcult because the majority of them are indie and they do not come too my theater and it is like nails on a chalk board I was fortunate enough too see Water For Elephants and Remember Me I sobbed my ass of during the movie then I went and got a bag of resses LOL! but seriously PLEASE I am BEGGING on my hands and knees too ask you too PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put out a movie that can be open nation wide *bats eyelashes* please???????

Gozde said...

Yes, writing, even if one doesn't publish or post, can be quite cathartic. So if my posting stimulated that within you, I consider it worth it.

Gozde said...

I am betting most interviewers are going to miss these big promo tours with Rob........he is probably one of the nicest , most unpretentious actors out there. I think they realize that he truly is appreciative of his success/ fan support and does not come off as "entitled" to special attention etc.

Gozde said...

I agree.......he LOVES film and all types of film. He is well read, he is working with some of the best diectors, producers and on the job education is the best. Our Rob is intelligent.......he will succeed directing, producing, writing, music and of course his acting!!!!

Gozde said...

Am just getting the hang of pickin up replies & stuff. I thought maybe the blog had had to change their format - didnt realise it was a new updated version of disqus.

Gozde said...

Thank you Nik I will read it for sure.

Gozde said...

Me too Nana - and I love to hear the interviewers voice to him how they enjoy him so much too - a really nice guy!

Gozde said...

Hey Nana, you said it all. He is all of these things and those are just of some the reason fans love him. He's always seemed so relatable to the fans and not like other hollywood celebs and its probably Twilight to, were a pretty protective grp. and he is something special to us.

Gozde said...

I loved this interviewer, I remember him from the beginning of Twilight. I loved seeing Rob face when he was saying how nice a guy he is and that he wanted Rob to know that. So sweet!

Gozde said...

You could tell this interviewer was being sincere and really likes Rob. He is just a good guy. I wish all interviewer where like this one and Josh.

Gozde said...

I don't know he had a lot of press with Cosmopolis too, not as much as Twilight though. Like Rob said no other movie has the PR that Twilight as had over the yrs. But I'm so glad that its been that way. More Rob interviews the better.

Gozde said...

It's so damn annoying Mel.

Gozde said...

oh poor Rob his dad combing his hair LOL

Gozde said...

very beautifully said I must say :D

Gozde said...

yep exactly :)

Gozde said...

OH that reminds me did Rob win for best dressed?!

Gozde said...

the man is beautiful from head too toe and back again :)

Gozde said...

I agree and I loved the X-men series it is good and I do hope that FOX gets their heads out of their asses and see that Rob is interested in playing Gambit!

Gozde said...

yeah he did and he did an excellent job at producing and yeah I agree he probably will be producing some movie projects before he is 30 and probably by(if not before) he is 40 he will most likely be directing

Gozde said...

Thanks Cathy Duling. I think we all agree on Rob's assets. I am in LA at Breaking Dawn2 premier. 'Tent City" is close to 2500 twilight fan's I only hope I will be able to see Rob this year without being mobbed. Like I said, another mark off my bucket list.

Gozde said...

Thank you leah, Good to hear from you. I am in LA @ "Tent City" waiting for a possible glimpse of Robert and maybe a chance to see the premier. What a thrill. Wish all his fan's could be here.

Gozde said...

Thanks Maybird36, I love to hear it too, in fact I don't think I have ever heard a negative comment about Rob. Everyone who meets him or spends time with him, makes positive comments about him. I am in LA at the BD2 premier, just hoping to see Rob.

Gozde said...

Hey TEB4E, I just had lunch with you in LA. What a thrill to meet you. You and I are just hoping to see Rob while we are here at the BD2 premier.

Gozde said...

Best of luck and hope you get to meet our lovely Rob - thinking of you :)

Gozde said...

Thanks Maybird36, it would be such a thrill to meet Rob. I also think I would have so much fun meeting his parents. They have to be beaming with pride. They look like wonderful people. They must be, raising the delightful children they raised.

Gozde said...

I so agree with you Nana and I did actually send them a portfolio of some of the paintings I have done of Rob congratulating them on their son - whether they actually received it is anyone's guess :-) I had to try though!

Gozde said...

dina65.........DITTO DITTO DITTO!!!!!

Gozde said...

Oh my!!!!! paintings of their son. How wonderful. I am so surprised you never heard a word. But I suppose they receive so many things all the time.
I sent a letter to Rob's mom several years ago, like a mom to a mom. But I also never knew if it ever got to her.
There are just so many "crazies" out there, I'm sure they just don't ever see some of the sincere things sent to them in their son's behalf.

Gozde said...

yes sadly this is true but I would love to know if they got them they must be so proud xx
