Good morning everyone. Again thanks for this great calendar. It brightens up the day. Just realized how close we are to The Rover which means Rob should be making his way down under soon. YYAAAAYYYYYYY Now off to work. I'll catch up with voting tonight.

I am so glad you are enjoying it....you never know when you recommend a book that it will suit that person. I loved it and couldn't put it down. Went and bought the sequel before I finished it. Shadow of Night is slightly harder to get in to but them really good too. I love the fact that the author is a historian.

Hello guys. I know this is slightly off topic or rather v.ery off topiic. It more or less has nothing to do with rob but I want to say it anyway I want to share bc I'm afraid I might be get the wrong idea elsewhere. I was looking at a very interesting article about young addult teen books as we know creating such a big impact on hollywood and why people rush them to be movies. They mentioned a variety of examples that have been and are and will be movies such as our beloved twilight of course. Then hunger games mortal instruments beautiful creatures and others. The article poitnts out and asks what is it about them that is so attractive to the younger and sometimes older demographic. Why do they exist? What is it doing to our generation of youngsters? Well at somepoint the asshole exagerated a point. That its making our youth question about their self identity and .being a trend or a fad blowing it out of. Proportion. I mean yes there r fans usually young whipper snappers who r a bit over the top and therefore the media kind of labels them as a stereotype. But the thing that people often forget or don't care about is that it is actually helping our young generation have an interest with reading and using their imagination rather than spend hours on their electronics. These books r giving them somethingto look forward too in life and get excited about. However older fans adult fans look at them in a different prism and see what could be benefited out of them and that they often have lessons that can really teach u about life and about ourselves. Twilight as many of u understand is more than a fantastical love story it is a story that teaches us really important lessons on the value of life loyalty sacrafice and beating the odds and doing it fo a worthy purpose love. As well as self identity. Hunger games is a satire and allegore about the cruelty of society and learning to stand for what is right and fight for the ones u love. Can't wait for the sequels. And the rest I don't know too much about. But I am actually really excited and curious about what these new upcoming young adult film adaptations have to deliver. The worl is changing and if young adult novels r becoming the new worthy trend in however form they develop then this could be a very good thing for hollywood to look forward to not just for money but also for people to develop an interest on what they r about. I for one like to be one of them. I like to explore and try new things I know I won't have the same reaction as twilight had onme but I. Am open to try.

To be fair, you would have had to be pretty eagle-eyed to have spotted a post from me recently. I have barely been on. Been very busy and have sometimes just checked out a few pictures and articles and gone again.
It does get busier on here at night sometimes.....I think us English/European people are outnumbered and when the different time zones kick in we are snoozing. I love the idea of the different day time and night time shifts LOL I sometimes get caught up with chatting to the American/Canadian time zone and end up going to sleep very late :-)

That's the worst part of this new system the AVIs are so small you can't see details now unless you hover over it. I get a bit protective of my AVI and don't like to keep changing it. The last photo I fell in love with I used on my twitter which is even better as it fills the screen LOL I'll keep watch for yours changing.

Haha I do live in a town not the middle of nowhere !! Its about 35 miles south of Bristol so yes quite mild :) The roads can be a pain but everything is within walking distance if necessary :-)

I know they do!! We just don't listen in the end though. The last couple of years have made up for all that snow they didn't get. When we did get snow it was usually February. Last year or the year before everything came to a standstill right at the beginning of December. Everything is off kilter :-/

The book is Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. Shadow of Night is the sequel. They are part of a trilogy but be warned the third part won't be out until next year or the year after. I enjoyed them so much, particularly the first one DoW, that I don't mind the wait and I will re-read them prior to reading the third when it is available. They are quite large books so over here not a particularly 'cheap' read. I have recommended this book to so many people and not one, so far, has been disappointed. Look it up and read a synopsis. Can you let me know what you think of it?

I like your thoughts, Miranda. And you're so right...Hollywood now recognizes young adult novels as profitable, which means we'll see a lot more of them. Twilight also showed that a book series that appealed mainly to girls/women can be made into movies which *gasp* actually make money, too. Given mainstream Hollywood's history, I doubt they'll be quite as bold in that area as they will with young adult fiction in general. And it's funny, Disney has been successful for years with animated films that mainly draw in young girls. You would have thought Hollywood long ago would have made the leap that all those little girls grow up...and still like movies, too! But I like that you look for deeper themes in the books that you read...and being able to enjoy a book - no, better yet falling in LOVE with a book is such a great experience.

You are correct about that. I happen to be a big fanatic of Disney animated films including the Princess ones my fav is always and still is beauty and the beast for reasons too various for me to explain on words. I confess though that i have been so spoiled by twilight for the last several years that i have not tried anything else im only just hearing about them. Although I have read parts of the first hunger games book but have taken a break bc i am still in my breaking dawn daze but im actually really excited for catching fire next year. Even the host looks very interesting. I may not know too much about it right now but im sure ill definately hear more about it. But no matter what Twilight and yes Harry Potter too will always be number one in my heart.
That Jimmy Kimmel show is one of my fav of Rob's appearance. Basically because he's so hot and sexy there, and because of these GIFs. Just my opinion and I want to be respectful as possible:
I think the writer of the article may not have been exaggerating that much. I am pushing being a young adult... The way things are going with longer life spans and all I guess I am still considered one. But anyway, I think that he or she was right when they said that novels can cause young people to question their beliefs. I hope I don't get pummeled for this but... I think "Divergent" is a good example of that. If you haven't read that one, go read it and let me know what you think. Oh, and I think "Starters" and "Crossed" are good ones, as well, to support that article's reasoning. And from what I recall there are several instances of trust issues (Katniss/ her mom, Katniss/Peeta to name a few) in HG. These books/series at one point or another plant some seed of doubt into the main protagonist's mind, therefore planting doubt into the reader's mind, since most books are now written to make you connect and feel like the main protagonist.
I do agree though- anything to get kids and young adults unplugged from technology for at least a few hours and plugged into reality. I know I am guilty of this (it's sorta obvious since I am on here commenting most of the time. haha) Some people complain about Twilight being poorly written, the protagonist is a horrible example for girls (which as the story progresses, I don't really agree with this particular complaint),etc... But I say, if it gets these young whipper snappers to pick up some form of literature no matter how "poorly written" it maybe, don't stop them! haha I think the texting/mind melting technology epidemic is getting worse. I went to a family get together recently and one of my family members was on her phone while we were all playing a board game, her included. She was supposed to be interacting with us, since she was included in the game but she wasn't. We all just kinda looked at her like, "are we not that important that you should put whatever is going on on your phone above us?" It was kinda disheartening.
But anyway I am done with my rant. lol

Yeah the technology especially with the excesssive upgrades on the iphones have been getting out of hand. I mean i zone out on my phone as much as the next person but when i am around people i make it a point to put it away and engage or at least if the conversation is directed at me.

Where I live, many streets are gritted but even then, it's at times a nightmare to drive the car when it has snowed. For me they can just skip the winter, it's nice when you're inside or when you go outside for a walk but work and winter: bad combination.
Well that's what they are saying but I live in the SW its fairly mild and don't tend to get the same as the rest of the country !!
We have troubles to, Lyn, even with sorted roads (right expr?). When it snows, the trafic in the cities stands still. After a day or so it gets better as soon as there isn't new snow. The worsest weather condition is when it has been freezing cold and the temp is going high and it starts raining. No way you can go outside, not even by feet. Fortunately it doesn't happen that often, but this weather scares the hell out of me.
LOL That is exactly what I tell my daughter! She loves it !! Many of the small country roads that I drive on to work aren't even gritted! They never seem to get the gritting right either - they grit when it isn't frosty and haven't gritted when it is! :-)
I agree it's not the snow really' its when it freezes that it becomes the real problem !! very dangerous !!

The Olympic Peninsula is a beautiful place. Haven't made the trip to Forks but keep think I should! My husband says it is way too far to drive when there is "nothing there"...he just doesn't understand hahaha
Nope! We aren't prepared for it so the slightest ice or snow and life screeches to a halt hahaha What gets me though is how bad traffic gets when it rains...we live in the Pacific Northwest people...learn to drive in the rain! :)

Yeah, maybe. I quite liked to drive in the snow with my former 4WD, it was fun.... The snowchains are only used in the mountains mostly though. In the city they get rid of the snow very quickly....

The premiere was my Christmas and it was the best one.
