VIDEO: Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis makes Criterion Collection's top 25 films of 2012

VIDEO: Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis makes Criterion Corner's top 25 films of 2012

UPDATE: Adding this great write-up from Moviefone about Cosmopolis. The film made their 10 Best Films You Didn't See in 2012 list:
There seemed to be a little juice behind Canadian director David Cronenberg's latest effort, a wonderfully meandering adaptation of Dom DeLillo's novel of the same name that charts a single, seemingly endless limousine ride. For one, the film premiered at Cannes, to mostly ecstatic audiences (full disclosure: I was in one of them), and for another, Cronenberg loaded his bizarre contraption with a secret weapon: Robert Pattinson. As a disaffected billionaire, Pattinson showed unheard of gravitas and wit, both of which were sorely missing during his five-movie tenure as sparkly vampire Edward in the "Twilight" movies. But not even his handsome or borderline hieroglyphic face, could get people to come out to "Cosmopolis." Granted, the movie is pretty weird. But it's also tremendously rewarding -- it works its hooks into you and, months after seeing it, I still can't stop thinking about it. It's also part of 2012's great limousine ride double feature, along with Leos Carax's equally strange "Holy Motors." The mini-bar optional.
I've always loved film montages. This is a great one from Criterion Corner with awesome music. Visit the Vimeo page for a list of the songs.

This is especially cool to have Rob's film honored here since he once said all he wanted for Christmas was the entire Criterion Collection. ;) Click HERE to read the interview from 2009.

He's got to feel pretty proud Cosmopolis made their cut. :)

What a magnificent tribute to our Rob and to David Cronenberg. I couldn't be prouder of them both! And now to finally see some recognition for their hard work , foresight, and dedication to their movie !!!! How wonderful !!!!! Rob deserves this and I can only hope more people sit up and take notice !

The vid is from the Criterion Corner, not quite the Collection, though Ehrlich is a critic who blogs about Criterion films and his column is on several sites like Moviefone. Movies.com etc.. I know, I'm a quibbling pedant...lol That said, this is an excellent mash-up, and great to see Cosmopolis there. Also "..gravitas and wit..." from the review...it's an art to have both, and rare enough. I can't stop thinking about it either...lol

Gozde said...

Uh...forgot and put a dot com in my comment so went into the ether for moderation. If it never returns I'll try again...lol Suffice to say again for now that I can't stop thinking about it either...lol

Wow! "Cosmopolis" made the Criterion list -- Rob must be beside himself -- to ask for the entire collection is quite a request, that would take quite a few paychecks! -- every now & then I add one but I dare not hope to ever have the entire repertoire, but it is a good thought for adding to my Christmas list to Santa right now!! (LOL) -- how great for Ron and David C. who already has films of his on the list -- so happy for them.

So proud of Rob...I just love seeing/hearing Cosmopolis on another list of important films of 2012. And the inclusion of more male fans bodes well for his future projects, too. Merry Christmas, Rob...and thank you again, DC!

Gozde said...

Darn. I am very happy about this. I wish I had the chance to see it in cinema. I'll watch on VOD and pre ordered, so I have it by January.

Gozde said...

Love "hieroglyphic". People getting creative trying to describe that visage..

Gozde said...

What is RSA?

Gozde said...

I would have describe it as masterpiece, roman greek god, unique...you get the drill.

Gozde said...

Ok, but even with the finest I'm not sure I could do those chiselled features justice, lol. I agree, a beautiful and unique face. :-)

Gozde said...

What does "borderline hieroglyphic face" mean? If they mean etched in stone for all eternity, I think it should be. If they mean stonelike, I don't see that, although I have not seen Cosmopolis.

Gozde said...

Glad to see Rob getting recognized for his work in Cosmopolis.

Gozde said...

Happy for Rob & CD they deserve it,Robs performance is worthy of all this and at least a award nomination.

Gozde said...

Thats what I like to know too what is RSA Thanks for the banner & for this Tinkxo

Robsessed Service Announcement lol i made this up at some point. equivalent to "Update"

Wanking here, but as my comment didn't boomerang, I'm recommenting. Was simply being pedantic in saying Ehrlich is a critic who blogs about Criterion films in Criterion Corner, and his column appears on other sites like Moviefone, but not actually the Collection. That said, it's an excellent mash-up and great to see Cosmopolis in it. Hope Rob continues to make films which even if he wasn't in them, he'd like to collect...lol

Gozde said...

i knew that but got caught up in the xmas gift tie-in from Rob when i was typing. thanks for catching it for me. :)

Gozde said...

Thanks Tink, very appropriate :-D

Gozde said...

Don't forget to vote for Rob Celebrity of the year.

Gozde said...

Everyone is taking note of Rob and for all the right reasons.
"Secret weapon" Rob....I've known this from the beginning...cos he kills me on a daily basis....

Gozde said...

Thank you for the posting the vid and the writeup. :-)

Gozde said...

As I have said many times before Rob is going to surprise many people in years to come. He is a fine ine actor.

Gozde said...

The Internet was sucking my patience out of me for half a month and when it started scratching the bottom of my patience storage ( and it is not that big but tiny i should confess ) something "boomed" or " banged" or , maybe , just clicked quietly and ....here i am !!! :)))
Isn't it great ( happy , simply happy here ) to get to know that the film you love and the actor you ...do lllove are on the best films list ? :DDD
Cheerzzzz!
XXXOOO

Gozde said...

I read about all these write-ups and top ten inclusions and feel happy. But i know it won't get any nominations and feel sad (or mad?)

Gozde said...

Wow that is so wonderful! I can't wait to have Eric Parker all to myself in a dark room on my TV. Congrats to Rob! I am so very happy for him and his success. Can't wait for next years movies!!!!

It's too bad that so little appreciation is shown this side of the ocean, because show business is suppose to be arts and entertainments. And whether I am a fan of Robert or not... this movie and at the actor deserve to be praised for his portrayal of a character from a very difficult book to read and take in. Yes. Mr. Cronenberg and Robert make you sit up and take notice and try to get in into the character's mind. I am sad that movie goer are given so much (pardon me) crude, that when something amazing and artful comes along.. they don't know how to appreciate it. :Sigh:

Gozde said...

Sad but true, Monique.

"For one, the film premiered at Cannes, to mostly ecstatic audiences (full disclosure: I was in one of them)"
This is, once again, proof that the audience really liked the movie. Rob didn't have to endure the booo's, what a relief it must've been for him, the sensitive soul he is. Well, nominations will most probably go to Cannes movies for wich the audience wasn't "mostly ecstatic", but the Cosmopolis and Rob got some (indie movie) journalists raving about it and him and that we couldn't even imagine in our dreams last year.
Rob won the hearts of the women by storm and he won the respect of a lot of males by storm. He can just do that.

Gozde said...

HI Edwards1stwife so very good to see you comment again. Yes Rob is a real fine actor.

Gozde said...

Thanks Silvie. I have ad trouble with Disqus then my Internet!,, but I have been here reading all the comments. Good to be backxx

Just rewatched Cosmopolis. What I don't understand though is why there's never been talked about the actor who performed the barber. He had more lines than Shiner or Chin and he was rather important for Eric Packer. This actor performed the old barber so warm, so natural. Was it because he isn't famous? I don't find this very fair.

Gozde said...

I too thought the actor playing the barber was magnificently understated in his role... A fantastic job! He seems to work steadily although either in supporting bit parts, or lesser-known movies.

Gozde said...

He didn't seem to act at all, it was like he was being himself, so good that he was. The results of his hair cutting shows that he wasn't a barber though LOL I don't even know the actors name, but kudos for the flewless way he did his part . I liked his facial expressions when he talked about the little Eric and when he got worried and angry 'cause of the lack of protection of Eric. Very recognizable figure too.
