'Life' Producer Iain Canning & Director Anton Corbijn Talk About Robert Pattinson

'Life' Producer Iain Canning & Director Anton Corbijn Talk About Robert Pattinson

Life will be available on DVD & BluRay in the UK on Monday but if you're lucky enough to live in Ireland then you'll be able to get your hands on it today.
The special features include interviews with Robert Pattinson, Dane DeHaan (both of which we've already seen) along with Anton Corbijn, Luke Davies, Iain Canning, Joel Edgerton, Christina Piovesan and Rodney Stock.

Here are a few quick snippets from Iain Canning, Anton Corbijn & Christina Piovesan where they mention Rob. I especially love what Iain has to say about the tenderness that Rob brought to the character of Dennis and about Rob's choice of multi layered complicated characters.
Check it out below.........

Audio: 'I Really Love Rob, He's A Really Fine Actor' Anton Corbin On Robert Pattinson, 'Life' & More

Picturehouse did an audio interview with Anton Corbijn recently. It's quite similar to some of the other interviews we've heard and read in the past but I'll never get tired of hearing Anton talking about what a fine actor Rob is and how Rob is the lead in the movie.

Life talk starts around the 12min mark.

Anton Corbijn talks about the parallel universe of Robert Pattinson playing Dennis Stock in LIFE

Anton talked about Rob ahead of the films release in Ireland Sept. 25th. I share his feelings about Rob not playing Dean and have been amused by publications that are quick to assume Rob plays the icon when the film was in production last year.

Excerpt from Scannian (Ireland): “I had Robert on board first,” says Corbijn. “I never saw him as Dean. Most people assume, when they hear he’s in this film, that he’ll play James Dean, because you equate a big name with a big name.

“But I love Rob playing the part of Dennis Stock because, as you know, he’s very famous through the Twilight series, which came when he was young, and it came relatively easy, I guess, to him. Now he wants to prove to himself that he’s worthy of being an actor, so he takes all these left-of-centre roles – with directors like (David) Cronenberg and Werner Herzog.

“So he is a guy who wants to prove himself as an actor playing a photographer who wants to prove himself as a photographer. I thought it was a nice parallel universe, and also to turn the camera on him.

“He’s always being chased by photographers and now he plays a photographer himself. There’s a kid of perverse pleasure there.

"Robert Pattinson Really Delivers On Set" ~ Anton Corbijn

"Robert Pattinson Really Delivers On Set" ~ Anton Corbijn

RTÉ Ten (Ireland) spoke to Anton Corbijn about Life and asked him about the first time Rob and Dane read together. Check out his answer below in an excerpt from the interview.

I also liked what the site had to say about the movie:
"You may already know more about legendary photographer-turned-director Anton Corbijn's new film than you realise. Have you ever seen that iconic 1960 photo of James Dean walking in the rain in Times Square? Well, the picture was taken by a man named Dennis Stock, and the story of it, and his friendship with the soon-to-be-huge star, is touchingly told in Life.

With two excellent performances from Robert Pattinson as Stock and Dane DeHaan as Dean, Life is Corbijn's most uplifting film to date, with the era so lovingly and beautifully recreated that your time with his two leading men will probably feel all too short. "

 photo LifeBTS.jpg

The first time you had Robert and Dane read together could you feel the electricity straight away?

They're very different actors, you know? They come in very different ways to the set or to rehearsals. That made me feel really great because they are very different characters in the film. Dane is very prepared – he prepared for months – Rob seems to be less prepared but then on set he really delivers. But in rehearsals he sort of takes it in. He's very intuitive in his approach and it worked really well, whereas Dane is much more studied.

Anton Corbijn Talks About Robert Pattinson At The Latin American Premiere Of 'Life'

Anton Corbijn Talks About Robert Pattinson At The Latin American Premiere Of 'Life'

On Friday night at the Guanajuato International Film in Mexico Life made it's Latin American premiere. Director Anton Corbijn was in attendance and conducted a Q&A after the screening of the movie.
Below are some extracts (translated using Google translate) where he talks about Robert Pattinson.

 photo Life_Photocall_Berlin_Flm_Festival33.jpg

Excelsior:

"GUANAJUATO, 26 July.- Although many related and pigeonhole the name of Robert Pattinson in the Twilight series, there are others, such as Dutch director Anton Corbijn who see beyond the stigma and / or social labels.

That's why I did not offer preposterous British actor the role of Dennis Stock, this famous photographer 50s that caught James Dean three months before his death in the film Life.

"After Twilight I felt Robert tried to choose characters away from this whole saga.

"He wants to prove to the world that he is a real actor can do challenging roles and that reminded me of Dennis Stock, a photographer who wanted to check he was good at what he did. That part was something I found in common between the two.

On the other hand, Robert is always being chased by photographers and I liked the idea that in the film he had to act like a photographer behind a star, Anton Corbijn said to questions expressed by Excelsior.

The filmmaker, who likewise attended the Festival last year to promote The most wanted man, was forceful in ensuring that while speaking of James Dean Life is not a movie about him, but the man behind the lens that made him some emblematic images that turned it around the world.

"Whoever thinks that this film is about James, I'm afraid to say that is not so.

"In fact, when I was offered the script I did not care because I did not want to make a film about James Dean, however, when I began to see that the story was more about the photographer, I felt I identified because basically that's what I've been doing for the last 40 years, " said Corbijn.

In addition to Robert Pattinson, Life features performances from Dane DeHaan, Ben Kingsley, Kristen Hager and Joel Elgerton.

This film was shot in Canada and does not have release date in Mexico. "

Eluniversal:

"Guanajuato.- Because after Twilight Robert Pattinson had shown he wanted to remove the image of an easy film actor, he was chosen to star in Life, directed by Anton Corbijn.

In the movie he plays professional photographer Dennis Stock, who came to have a friendly relationship with James Dean, legend of cinema. That closeness was born after
the image Stock took of Dean in 1955.

"I had noticed that he took movies out of the ordinary (Bel Ami and Cosmopolis) wanting to check that he was a real actor; and good in his life he is chased by photographers, and now he must act as one, "the director recalled yesterday.

Life appeared
Friday night at the Teatro Juarez in this city, in the framework of the International Film Festival that ended this weekend.

"It is not a biography of James Dean, so if people believe that's what they'll see they better get out," joked the filmmaker, shortly before the screening.

Life still has no release date in Mexico. It was launched internationally in February, during the Berlinale and now it was the event of the Bajio.

In September it will reach cinemas in France, UK and Ireland, one month later will be the turn of Italy and Germany."

AM.com:

Corbijn spoke with Sara Hoch to present his latest film at the historic Teatro Juarez, so the filmmaker traveled to Guanajuato to share with buffs his short film inspired by the friendship that had photographer Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) and the new promise of cinema in the mid-fifties, James Dean (Dane DeHaan)
On choosing Pattinson for the role of the photographer, he said he and Stock have a lot in common, at the time Stock sought recognition, the same goes for Pattinson,
who sought the opportunity to demonstrate that he is a serious actor despite the latest movies that launched him to global fame.

He said he was not interested in making a film about the life of James Dean, the writer liked the character of the photographer and that is why on Friday night hundreds of people had the opportunity to see the film to be released in theaters film at the end of the year.

"For Robert Pattinson, It Was Very Interesting To Play A Photographer As He Is Always Hunted By Them" ~ Anton Corbijn Talks 'Life'

In an interview with Trends Life Director Anton Corbijn spoke about working on the movie with Robert Pattinson & Dane DeHaan.

 photo Life Photocall12.jpg

Translation thanks to Pattinson Art Work

From Trends:
My next movie is about the relationship between James Dean and Dennis Stock, photographer for Life magazine. It ends just before the release of 'East of Eden' which made James Dean famous all around the world.

The young actor Dane Dehaan plays James Dean, and Robert Pattinson the photographer…
"It's never easy for an actor to play another actor – particularly James Dean.. But Dane Dehaan is excellent. And Robert Pattinson as well. For him, it was very interesting to play a photographer as he is always hunted by them. And for me it made sense to make a movie about a photographer whose model has a strong image. It looks a bit like my own story."

Will it be a movie in black and white?
"I wanted it to be but for budget reasons, I filmed it in colour. And in the end, the result is quite good - even better."

MOVIE NEWS: Robert Pattinson's 'Life' Gets An R Rating From MPAA

Ropes of Silicone revealed that Life has received an R Rating from the MPAA. Not going to lie, I didn't see that one coming. I can't see any reason why it should have an R Rating.

 photo LifeStill-1.jpg

From Ropes of Silicone
"Anton Corbijn's Life is still looking for a distributor after its Berlin Film Festival premiere, but it has an MPAA rating. The film, starring Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan, will arrive with an R-rating when it does finally arrive."
Thanks Nancy
