James Gray Talks About The "Wonderful Work" Robert Pattinson Does In 'The Lost City Of Z'

James Gray Talks About The "Wonderful Work" Robert Pattinson Does In 'The Lost City Of Z'

It's great to hear and read praise about Rob from directors and James Gray, like all the others Rob has worked with in the past, has nothing but praise for Rob.
Here's a snippet of his interview with LA Weekly where he talks about working with Rob.

image host

Robert Pattinson has done a lot of interesting work with directors like David Cronenberg, but I would never classify any of it as realist; what he does in a film like Cosmopolis is very arch. But in your film, he completely disappears into the part.

It’s an act of generosity, really. Rob has this ridiculous beard and it’s such great, self-effacing, wonderful work he’s doing. I love actors very much because they do things I could never do. Directors are all frustrated actors anyway, and it’s very exciting as a filmmaker to see an actor who really is that generous with you. It was a very happy shoot — as arduous as it was, brutal as it was.

"It was a real pleasure to work with Rob, and he was such a nice guy on and off set. We talked about his upcoming projects and he mentioned the prospect of a vampire movie (Twilight). Little did we know that he was about to embark on a journey to super stardom. I'm delighted his career has taken off because he's without doubt one of the good guys!"

Total Film Magazine has a feature on Maps To The Stars in this months issue (on sale Friday) Click HERE if you missed our post about that.
But it also has a great interview with Guy Pearce where he talks about Rob, working with David Michod again on The Rover and lots more.

"He's had a very different existence as an actor than I did. He's just this megastar. I don't know if he struggles with feeling like a valuable actor, as I did, but he shouldn't, if he does. He's amazing.

"On the second day he was doing the scene where he falls out of the truck and he's sitting there bleeding and I was watching it on the monitor. I looked at David and said, 'Wow, he's really good, isn't he?' What he was offering up with regard to the power shifts between us meant I had such great stuff to work with."

"I Really Think He's A Terrific Actor. He's Extremely Inventive"- David Croneberg Talks About Robert Pattinson

With the release of "Cosmopolis" on DVD & BluRay there have been several interviews with David Cronenberg. Here's one from The Playlist where David talks about Robert Pattinson starring in "Cosmopolis" (& of course has only good things to say ;-)), "Maps To The Stars" & more

David Cronenberg says Robert Pattinson surprises him as an actor, just like Viggo Mortensen.
Many wondered if how "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson and director David Cronenberg would mesh, particularly on a project as talky as "Cosmpolis," which requires a confident and compelling leading man. But as it turns out, Cronenberg had a great time working with the young actor and has nothing but praise for the rising star.

"I really think he's a terrific actor. He's extremely inventive. He surprised me every day on 'Cosmopolis' with the nuances and things that he did which were unexpected. Of course I was very familiar with the dialogue and yet he would surprise me," Cronenberg enthused. "And I thought, this is a guy who I would like to work with some more, which is how I felt with Viggo Mortensen. When you find an actor who surprises you everyday, you figure, he could do it some more with a completely different role in a completely different movie."

David Cronenberg is excited to make "Map To The Stars" his first film shot in the United States.
While it's still coming together, should it all work out, Cronenberg will get to work in May on "Map To The Stars," a new film that will reunite him with Pattinson and Mortensen, (Kate: Or NOT as we found out yesterday HERE) and also feature Rachel Weisz.  And believe it or not, for the first time in the four-decade-plus-long career of the director, he will be shooting in the United States.

"It's kind of a satire on Hollywood. It's very typical of Bruce Wagner's writing. And it's sort of a condensed essence of Bruce. And while it's satirical, it's also very powerful, emotionally, and insightful and funny," he explained about the movie. "And it would be the first time I've ever shot a foot of film in the United States. It's strange, just because of the way the co-production deals work, that even though I've had movies that are set in the U.S. like 'Cosmopolis' or 'The Dead Zone,' I've never shot in the United States. This would be the first time. And I'm really excited about it.

Gorgeous New/Old Pic Of Robert Pattinson (12th Nov 2008)

I love this new/old B&W Pic of Robert Pattinson from back in 2008 (and look who's keeping a close eye in the background)

Imagine being the person in the crowd that he's pointing to with his eyebrow quirked up like that and .......and..........and look at the way he's holding that microphone..... gah. Ok I'm rambling now.......

The photograph is by Nicole Peterson of Monsterbrand
Here's what she said about it:
"Shot this photo a few years ago at a promotional event for the film known as "Twilight". I am by no means a fan of the franchise, but I thought the event would be a good photo opportunity, so I attended. Boy, was I floored (and sometimes frightened) by the enthusiasm of the fans. Twilight itself is too flat and one-dimensional for me, but Robert Pattinson, the actor seemed an all-around cool guy, had a good head on his shoulders. A very funny individual. You can count me as a Pattinson fan, but not a Twilight fan. Overall, just a great photographic learning experience for me. Also! I'm also very excited to hear he was recently cast in "Lawrence of Arabia".
If you are reposting this please make sure to credit Nicole and link back to her ;-)

And just in case you had any doubt about what Nicole said about about the enthusiasm of the fans check out these vids from the event (the Hot Topic Tour In Chicago)
Turn down your volume!!!

And here's one of him off stage where you can actually hear what he's saying ;-))
Mmmmmmm you know that bit about knowing at the end of that week all those people wouldn't be waiting for you anymore, ya, you we kinda wrong about that!

Robert Pattinson Fans Will Love “Cosmopolis" - David Cronenberg

It says on this article that Metro.us spoke to David at Cannes but the Questions/Answers are similar to ones we've heard before, except for the last one (which brought a mile to my face)

Photobucket

From Cannes: "Cosmopolis" director talks Robert Pattinson

Cronenberg spoke to Metro before the film's premiere on May 25.

How did you go about adapting Don Lillo’s novel?
DC: “I wrote the script in six days. The first three days I re-transcribed the entire dialogue. The following three I added descriptions for each scene. The monologues going on in Packer’s mind I made into visuals. I am incredibly excited about this film and even more so Pattinson’s performance.” (Kate: So are we David, so are we)

Choosing to Robert Pattinson in the lead role may have come as a bit of a shock for some of your fans…
DC: “Rob is a wonderful actor and I think he will surprise more than a few. Because he’s young, handsome and the star of the “Twilight Saga”, some people have come to the unfair conclusion that he is a bad actor. I am well aware of that. But I can assure you that he is incredible and a very hard worker. I can’t wait to work with him again. In fact, I even told him I would love to cast him alongside Viggo Mortensen in the future.” (Kate: Can I say again how much I LOVE David?)

Have any celebrities contacted you directly to ask if they could work with you?
DC: “Most of the time they tell their agent to tell my agent they want to work with me. Sometimes I ask to work with an actor without knowing if they have ever seen one of my films. That was the case with Rob. (Kate: LOVE this) It just so happened he was very familiar with some of my work. On set (for “Cosmopolis”) I remember he and Juliette Binoche getting into deep conversations about obscure French films. He’s a film fanatic.”

Was hiring him a way of drawing the attention of people that weren’t necessarily ‘David Cronenberg’ fans?
DC: “The moment we confirmed Rob had been cast in “Cosmopolis” everyone started talking about it. I can only hope the public and the critics will like it. On the other hand, those only watching it because they are ‘Twihards’ risk being disappointed. But fans of Rob will love “Cosmopolis.” Once you love an actor, you should be open to appreciating all of their work.”
(Kate: Oh believe me we love him and we are very open to everything he chooses to do)

Judi Shekoni Says Robert Pattinson Is Such A Laugh!

Last November Judi Shekoni who plays Zafrina told Popsugar that she couldn't decide between Team Edward or Team Jacob,

Well she recently spoke to a local newspaper about her experience filming "Twilght-Breaking Dawn" and she tells how she was a fan of the books BEFORE the movies came out and WOW look at that she's now Team Edward. I wonder if the good old Robert Pattinson charm helped her decide!

What has it been like working with the cast?

Everyone has been super nice, there’s an atmosphere of family. Spending time with everyone has been great, Rob (Pattinson) is such a laugh and it’s been an enjoyable experience. There’s a mix of nationalities here, and the Canadians are a lot like the Brits with their humour. Sometimes you can join a project like this and be met by a few prima-donnas, but that couldn’t be further from the truth here. All us newcomers are welcomed like we’ve been involved since the beginnings. It helps that we’re in the most beautiful hotel. It’s like a network of private mini lodges; I’ve even got my own fireplace!

Are you Team Edward or Jacob?

I’d have to say Team Edward. Being a fan of the books, it’s hard not to fall for him; he is the dream man we’re all looking for. (Kate: I LIKE her!)

Robert Pattinson's Stunt Double Paul Darnell Tells Us How Humble & Hardworking Rob Is

Cindy a reader over at RobertPattinsonNews was lucky enough to get to talk to Paul Darnell who plays Robert Pattinson's double. Here are the parts where he talks about Rob and of course tells us how great Rob is.

To read the rest head over to RobertPattinsonNews

How did you react when Robert Pattinson thanked you for his Twilight “Best Fight” MTV Movie Award? Can you share your experience in filming that scene?

First let me say that Robert Pattinson is an amazingly humble person and a very hard worker. He works very hard and shows up to every rehearsal. The last battle scene in Twilight was very intense. Many of the stunts involved hard hits with wires and crashes which are so much fun to do! Without risking personal injury to Rob, I ended up doing the majority of stunts in the final battle which won the award.

I was at a friend's house and I started getting text messages and phone calls from friends saying "I think Rob Pattinson just thanked you on national TV". I was really stoked and also a little confused by the "I think" part. Immediately I went online and found a video of Rob's speech where he gave me credit for the award but said the wrong last name. To his credit, someone had misspelled my name on a photo shoot for LA Magazine and my wrong last name was plastered all over the internet. None the less, I was so stoked that he would even think of me for a shot out. Actors rarely do that for stuntmen. Rob is a very considerate individual and true gentleman. When I saw him on the set of Remember Me he immediately apologized for the mishap. (Kate: All together now........ awwwwwwwwww)

How has the experience of being Robert Pattinson’s stunt double varied from Twilight to Remember Me to Water for Elephants for you?

It has been amazing to see Rob's fame grow and grow. His fan base is grown so much since the first Twilight and I am very happy for him. He also continues to stay the same humble guy each time I see him.

Can you share any of the experience of last summer’s filming of Water for Elephants?

A terrific book turned into an even greater film with 3 outstanding actors. The three, Reese, Rob and Christoph, worked together amazingly. Rob also did an amazing job learning and performing the fights and working with the animals. Rob has a scene feeding tigers, REAL tigers, that could eat you if they wanted. (Kate:Eeeekk) Rob played it cool and had no problems working with them at all. Probably better than I could.

Robert Pattinson needs to send Daniel Radcliffe a bouquet of flowers

Maybe Rob can send yellow roses. Isn't that the flower of friendship? LOL I think the Potter crew is ROBsessed ;)

From MTV:

Daniel Radcliffe has found Robert Pattinson's rise to fame instructive. "I have no concept of what "Potter" looks like to the rest of the world, because I'm so involved in it," Radcliffe once told us. "So to watch "Twilight" kind of explode globally had been fascinating."

Radcliffe also finds RPattz — his onetime "Potter" co-star — an appropriate target for some good-natured mockery. Earlier this month, the 21-year-old actor voiced a vampire character on "The Simpsons," a pasty-faced heartthrob named Edmund directly inspired by Pattinson's Twi-hunk Edward. Radcliffe hasn't yet heard from his pal about the episode, but he's pretty sure Rob didn't mind the parody.

"You cannot be in a film as big as either "Potter" or "Twilight" and not have a pretty good sense of humor about yourself," Radcliffe told us.

In the Halloween-themed episode, young Lisa Simpson falls for Radcliffe's character after he saves her from an out-of-control school bus, a direct reference to the way in which Edward and Bella connect in "Twilight." "I love your pallor," Lisa coos.

Radcliffe himself has found himself a "Simpsons" target in the past, with references ranging from a Homer Simpson pet pig named Harry Plopper to a religious-minded character noting Potter and his wizard pals are going to hell. "South Park," too, has zinged "Potter": During a send-up of "The Lord of the Rings," one character mocks a group of kids for dressing up like the Hogwarts crew. Radcliffe thinks it's all hilarious, and he's sure RPattz does too.

"I find it all so cool and funny and flattering," he said. "I'm sure Rob's got a sense of humor about [it].

"I'm sure I'll be getting a bouquet of flowers," he added.

"Water For Elephants" Author Sara Gruen Says Robert Pattinson Will Shine In His Role As Jacob

"Water For Elephants" Author Sara Gruen Says Robert Pattinson Will Shine In His Role As Jacob

High praise indeed from Sara!

Photobucket

Author Sara Gruen's widely adored Water for Elephants nearly didn't get published at all. "It didn't fit any genre – people couldn't decide if it was a romance or a murder mystery," she says. "It had an elephant as a main character – and it was set in the world of circuses. Circuses? No one had any idea what to do with it."

Finally, Gruen says, "in the last 15 minutes of possibility," Algonquin Books bought it. The rest, spurred mostly by word of mouth and passionate book-club members, is publishing history: Water for Elephants has sold 3.7 million copies worldwide, and the movie version just finished shooting with Twilight vampire-hunk Robert Pattinson and Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon in the lead roles.

What do you think of the casting for the movie of Water for Elephants?
I think Robert Pattinson is really going to shine in that role. He's so dedicated. This was a rough-and-tumble shoot, and when I was there on the set, he'd be lying in the dirt for 18 straight takes in a row, and he would nail every single one. He's a nice guy, and he reads. He always has a book in his hand. My family got cameos. I'm in a scene where Rosie [the elephant] is raiding a produce stand.

Jackie Zane Lucinda In "Water For Elephants" Talks About The Charming, Witty & Gracious Person We Know As Robert Pattinson

Jackie Zane Lucinda In "Water For Elephants" Talks About The Charming, Witty & Gracious Person We Know As Robert Pattinson

Photobucket

Jackie Zane who plays Lucinda, Benzini Bros. Circus Sideshow Performer tells us about her experience on the WFE Set.
(This is a great read!)

“Working on the set of ‘Water for Elephants’ (WFE) was, in my opinion, AMAZING! I have been on a number of sets in various capacities as an actor. Whether lead role, supporting role, featured role, or background role…there is often a strict hierarchy and segregation among the levels. I have experienced each extreme, and witnessed a similar treatment among the production crew. The WFE set was a much different atmosphere as everyone from top to bottom was treated with the utmost respect! This seems like such an irony as the story of the circus depicted in this film had much focus on the separation of classes. I realized early on that this film experience would be unique and I cherished every moment. Although personal cameras were banned from the actual set, the images are burned in my memory. So when I am like Older Jacob, at “90 or 93 years old – I can’t remember”, I will look back on my days with the traveling circus fondly.

Many people have asked for specific details on the filming process, and I have been requested to share with a couple different blogs. In an effort to avoid monotonous descriptions, I am sharing various accounts of my experience…so here goes! My first day on the set was a long one, about sixteen hours, and I didn’t get bored once. Everything was incredibly organized as we were shuttled through each phase of the day. First it was to base camp where after checking in and having breakfast, I visited wardrobe, then hair and make-up. This is where a young man in smeared clown make-up is sitting next to me and we are making casual light talk. He extends his hand to me and says “I’m Rob, by the way!” Ahh I get to share the make-up trailer with Robert Pattinson. (So many young girls would love to be in my shoes.) He is the epitome of friendly. He is charming and witty with the tendency to giggle as he was being fitted in one silly looking wig after another. This superstar had no ego to speak of. He was gracious and above all….human. This was my first impression of him, but it repeated itself each day. We shared several conversations in the make-up trailer and he always made a point to say hello when on set.

The most amazing star however was, hands down, Tai the elephant. She played Rosie and is absolutely mesmerizing. I kept hearing about her from others who got to work with her, or watch her practice. I was often filming other scenes or being prepped and had missed out on several opportunities to see her. The first time I saw her was close up. She was walking beside me into the big top tent for a scene. I stopped to let her pass and she radiated warmth and kindness with her amber eyes. She is incredibly well trained and docile. She seemed absolutely smitten with Rob.(Kate: Smart Rosie, a girl, I mean elephant after my own heart!I think I'm in love with Rosie almost as much as I am with Rob, sorry Rob :-})
She raised her trunk to sniff his face repeatedly as he gently pet her in an effort to give her attention while he focused on receiving direction for the scene. It was such a Kodak moment but alas, I had no camera.(Kate: All together now, awwwwwwwwwwwww)

These are just the parts where she mentions Rob to read the rest (and you will want to because it's great) head over to "Water For Elephants"

Thanks to the lovely Mona for the tip!

DUBLIN actress Sonya Macari will feature alongside Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson in her new movie.

The actress has just finished shooting Hollywood blockbuster Water For Elephants alongside the British star -- and claims R-Patz was a pleasure to work with. (Kate: Well of course he was!)

Irish-Italian beauty Sonya, who is a sister of Celebrity Salon's Virginia Macari, will play the part of Rube in the Francis Lawrence-directed thriller, which tells the story of Robert's character, Jacob Jankowski's struggle to survive life as part of a circus after he is suddenly left orphaned.

"He seems really nice and down to earth," she told the Herald. "I only saw him on set a couple of times but he appeared to have plenty of time for everyone and wasn't affected by any of the fuss." (Kate: That's our Rob)

The only Robert Pattinson project most people know from his pre-"Twilight" days is his small role in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" as Cedric Diggory, but as his popularity has grown, more of his earlier projects are getting wide release. The latest of those is the short film "The Summer House," which was filmed for a week back in the summer of 2006, but is only hitting film festivals and iTunes this year. You can watch the trailer here.

First-time director Daisy Gili said she actually cast Rob because she was recommended him by Campbell Mitchell, who had worked on props for another of his early projects, "The Haunted Airman."

"He said, this guy is amazing, and he's really nice, and I think he'd be really up for working on a short film," Gili told MTV News. "I saw a picture of him and I thought, he's fantastic." (Kate: She has good taste!)
