"Pattinson Is A Very, Very Smart, Very Well-Educated & Intelligent Young Man" ~ Werner Herzog

"Pattinson Is A Very, Very Smart, Very Well-Educated & Intelligent Young Man" ~ Werner Herzog

With Queen of the Desert having it's American Premiere at the AFI Fest this week The Daily Beast spoke to Werner Herzog where he spoke a bit about the movie and mentioned working with Robert Pattinson. Not surprisingly he had very complimentary things to say about Rob:
"He cast Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence before fully grasping how huge the Twilight franchise was.

“I only realized that wherever I showed up in Morocco there were screeching teenies,” he smiled. “Pattinson is a very, very smart, very well-educated and intelligent young man. When he says things in the film, they’re always credible. You see you don’t just have a pretty face. It was a pleasure to have him around. A good comrade, as well.”"

Deadline:

Werner Herzog’s epic Queen Of The Desert will also add star power at the Berlinale Palast with Nicole Kidman, James Franco, Damian Lewis and Robert Pattinson. The film is the story of Gertrude Bell, the Lawrence of Arabia of female diplomats and political attachĂ© for the British Empire at the dawn of the 20th century.

The Hollywood Reporter:

Germany's biggest film fest has announced a slew of new competition titles for its 65th edition, including Werner Herzog's Queen of the Desert.

In Queen of the Desert, the one-time Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson plays Lawrence of Arabia, aka T.E. Lawrence, alongside star Nicole Kidman as explorer, writer, archeologist and British Intelligence officer Gertrude Bell. Queen of the Desert also features Homeland's Damian Lewis as Charles Doughty-Wylie, a married British officer who had an unconsummated affair with Bell, and James Franco as Henry Cadogan.

Screen International:

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival (Feb 5-15) has added a further eight titles to its Competition programme, ahead of the complete line-up next week.

The films, which originate from across Europe, Asia, the US and the Middle East, include the world premiere of Queen of the Desert, Werner Herzog’s biopic based on the life of British explorer Gertrude Bell.

Nicole Kidman plays the 19th century explorer, known as the female Lawrence of Arabia, and her co-stars include James Franco, Damian Lewis and Robert Pattinson (as TE Lawrence).

The Film Stage:

With our most-anticipated film of the year leading the line-up, this year’s Berlin Film Festival has announced more titles to join the slate. Notably Werner Herzog’s first narrative feature in half-a-decade, Queen of the Desert, will be premiering there. The story of legendary cartographer Gertrude Bell features Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, James Franco, and Damian Lewis.

Indiewire:

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival added eight films to its main competition this morning, including new titles from Werner Herzog, Benoit Jacquot, Bill Condon and Jafar Panahi. The festival also added an additional 14 films to its Generation selection, which is comprised of features and shorts aimed at youths.

Herzog will be in Berlin with "Queen of the Desert" starring Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence (aka Lawrence of Arabia), alongside Nicole Kidman as British Intelligence officer Gertrude Bell.

Robsessed Awards: Robert Pattinson's Best Non-Fandom Supporter Of 2014

Robsessed Awards: Robert Pattinson's Best Non-Fandom Supporter Of 2014

We know you love Rob, we know we love Rob.... but throughout the year we've also found out who else loves Rob and he's very loveable it seems. Just love that directors and fellow actors always have such nice things to say.

David Cronenberg ~ Speaking to THR ahead of Saturday night's New York Film Festival screening of Maps, Cronenberg explained that he wanted to work with Pattinson on this movie not only because the director thinks of him as "a wonderful actor" and they "had a good time on Cosmopolis," but also because it provided the opportunity for Pattinson to participate in the sort of ensemble film he'd told Cronenberg he wanted to do.

 photo Cronenberg.gif

David Michod ~ "I had always thought he was some angular, super good-looking brooding guy, then I met him and he was way more interesting than that. He wasn’t just a pretty boy. He had a really interesting face. He was interestingly awkward. And clearly very bright."

 photo Michod.jpg

Guy Pearce ~ "On the second day he was doing the scene where he falls out of the truck and he's sitting there bleeding and I was watching it on the monitor. I looked at David and said, 'Wow, he's really good, isn't he?' What he was offering up with regard to the power shifts between us meant I had such great stuff to work with."

 photo Guy.jpg

Julianne Moore ~ "Robert Pattinson is one of those people whose affect is so dissimilar to who he is. He has this gorgeous face and he seems like he’s going to be very remote and very serious. But he’s not. He’s incredibly chatty, fun, and smart."

Click on the pic below to read more
 photo Julianne.jpg

Anton Corbijn ~ "Rob is of course a film star, but he likes to be seen as an actor, so he works very hard to be an actor and be valued as an actor."

Click on the pic below to read more
 photo Anton.jpg

Josh Horowitz ~ If we're honest, I'd say Josh is a little Robsessed and we love him for it. He's always on top of what Rob's up to and who can forget the 30 minute interview from earlier this year?

Click on the pic below to read more
 photo Josh.jpg

Werner Herzog ~ "He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural."

Brady Corbet ~ "I've known Rob for years, and I've been a big fan of Rob's and I've really liked the decisions he's made. He's used his celebrity in a very, very intelligent way."

Werner Herzog about Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence: "He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural."

 photo WernerHerzogampRobertPattinson.jpg

We have two films to look forward to in 2015 and both of them have Rob tackling real life characters. T.E. Lawrence is arguably the better known character and Werner Herzog has nothing but praise to give Rob for his take on the iconic figure in Queen of the Desert.

Translation by PAW of Bande Ă  Part:
Can you tell us more about your next movie 'Queen Of The Desert'?
In less than ten days, I will start the mixing. The filming and editing are completed and I should be able to put an end to the movie in the first days of december.I don't know where or when it will be shown for the first time.
The cast is really impressive: Nicole Kidman, James Franco, Robert Pattinson...
They all really wanted to work with me. I was asked why I chose Pattinson. It's not a big part, and it matched perfectly. I needed an englishman who still looks like a schoolboy but which is very smart. He plays Lawrence of Arabia, but at the age of 22, on an archeological site. Kidman, who plays the main role is wondering what that kid has to do in a place like this, and an archeologist tells her that this kid has a PhD.Pattinson is really good in that role. He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural.
If you understand French, here's the original text:
On m’a demandĂ© pourquoi j’avais choisi Pattinson.

A couple of new pics of Rob posing with journalists during the LA press junket for The Rover and 2 interviews from the round table interview. (From express.de)

express.de, translation using Google and Reverso:
Why did you sell your mansion in Los Angeles?

She was much too big for me. I'm not old enough to toil with homeowner's things like broken water pipes.

Where do you live now?

I was homeless for six months after the sale. I borrowed houses from people when they were not in the city. Now I've found a home in the Hollywood Hills that I rent. It is not too large. I barely have furniture. Some of them are from the previous tenant. The only thing I brought with me, are air mattresses. In which I sleep. (Tink: With me. Shhhhhhh)

You have earned millions and can afford expensive equipment.

I'm not materialistic. The only thing I treat myself, are old guitars. I have 17 in my collection. My showpiece is a Gibson J100 acoustic guitar from the year 1943. Other bells and whistles such as designer clothes I do not care. However, I should go to buy clothes.

Why?

I can not find most of them. That's why I wear the jacket I'm wearing, continuously for the past two weeks. My stuff should be in any case either in a rental warehouse in Los Angeles or in my London apartment. I rather think the latter. I've just seen pictures of my old roommate Tom Sturridge, running around in my pants and shirt ... (laughs).

(Tink: Translations are always hilarious. Case in point, this bizarre change of subject LOL)

They also suffer from depression. Are you in therapy?

I would really like to try, but just the thought of it makes me nervous. I think I am a person who needs his emotional ups and downs. I'm not manic-depressive, and I cross my psycho-valleys pretty quickly.

Robert Pattinson talks about feeling at home in Cannes and being fan of Werner Herzog

Robert Pattinson talks about feeling at home in Cannes and being fan of Werner Herzog

This latest article is from French magazine, VSD.
image host Thanks to @LeRPattzClub for the translation!

Rebirth : he told us himself, Robert Pattinson is improving his movie culture buying tons and tons of DVDs. So he can get rid of, after the Twilight saga, his hearthrob label.

A hardworking pupil

The former vampire in the Twilight Saga was one the star in Cannes where he presented The Rover, a radical road movie.

"I'm starting to like it". Outside, a huge wind is sweepinp across La Croisette. But this time, Robert Pattinson is not responsible. They are real blast of winds that are trying to destroy the tent that has been set up on the terrace in the Palais des Festivals. The actor will trigger off a tornado in the evening while he was going up the stairs for the midnight screening of The Rover. Since the selection of Cosmopolis last year, Pattinson feels at home in Cannes

"When I saw the reactions to the film, I thought I was on the right path. . I started to be recognized as a true actor, not as the Twilight hearthrob anymore.

However we won't see The Rover as a mere excuse to achieve it. The movie made by the Asutralian director, David MichĂ´d, known for Animal Kingdom, should stay as one of the striking alien movie this year. We discover in an Australia burdened by an economic apocalypse, a guy ( Guy Pearce who is aweseome) angered by the robbery of the only thing he had : his car.. The quest to get it back becomes an obsession. And the corpses are going to add up. We think a lot to Mad Max, another post apocalyptic australian delirium and we are admirative in front of the project's radicalism. ( A few words but a lot of driving). Nihilism to which Pattinson, with rotten teeth, contributes.

We'll soon find him with another crazy director, Werner Herzog "I will never deny the Twilight era. But I love the cinema. I'm currently buying tons and tons of DVDs, in order to improve my movie culture. In front of Herzog, I behaved like a fan. I've still a lot to learn. "

Werner Herzog calls Robert Pattinson a "wonderful, fine actor" and has respect for Twilight

photo WernerHerzogampRobertPattinson.jpg It's been quite the day for a Rob praise parade! The Rover is receiving rave reviews out of Cannes from the first press screening. Catch up HERE. And David MichĂ´d was again applauding on Rob for his performance and skills. Click HERE to read.

Now we have Werner Herzog speaking with The Playlist and he briefly mentioned Rob. It was brief but it carried a punch. Excerpt:
Herzog claims that cinema has “a very unique way” of dealing with the vampire myth, and while his high esteem for Kinski’s legacy has barred him from considering most future iterations, a surprising exception is the “Twilight” series of films. His reaction? “Not that bad, I was surprised to find.”
“We have to take it seriously that there are films out there that know how to address a 14 or 15-year-old,” he added. “This is a very special sort of approach and I couldn't do it, yet these films could. I see that much of it is silly but at the same time I respect these films. And I just worked with one of the actors, Robert Pattinson [in Herzog’s upcoming ‘Queen of the Desert’], and he's a wonderful, fine actor. He's clearly stepping out of these roles that make the teenies screech.”
Directors continue to really step up to the plate for Rob.

ROBsessed Awards - Robert Pattinson's Best Non- Fandom Supporter

ROBsessed Awards - Robert Pattinson's Best Non- Fandom Supporter

Robert Pattinson has been very fortunate to have had some wonderful support again this year from outside the fandom. We have some of our old regular faces....... and a couple of new ones too.

Josh Horowitz ~ The reigning champ is back to defend his title. He may not have had any interviews with Rob this year but he made sure Rob was mentioned in interviews with Benedict Cumberbatch, Ashley Tisdale and James Franco

 photo RobampJosh.jpg

David Cronenberg ~ (Maps To The Stars Director) David is one of Rob's biggest cheerleaders. As his director in "Cosmopolis" and this year in "Maps to the Stars" he has had many good things to say about Rob like, "I really think he's a terrific actor. He's extremely inventive. He surprised me every day on 'Cosmopolis' with the nuances and things that he did which were unexpected".

Click on each pic below to read more

 photo DavidCronenberg1-1.jpg photo DavidampRob.jpg

Werner Herzog ~ (Queen Of The Desert Director) Werner was full of praise for Rob this year saying "He has charisma, he is smart, he writes. I hope we will see him one day as a director" & "This is a very intelligent man. Writes well. Knows exactly what he's doing. He also knows that he must be out of this short-lived type of role of Teen Stars."

Click on the pics below to read more

 photo Werner2.jpeg photo Werner1.jpg

David Michod ~ (The Rover Director) David worked with Rob on The Rover at the beginning of the year and was quick to tell people that Rob was 'really smart, and not the sort of pretty boy I was expecting. As soon as it was time to start testing… he was my first choice, by a long way.''

Dior ~ Dior and Robert Pattinson seem to have been made for each other. With their Dior Homme campaign it's clear that they have been listening to what Rob fans want. From the Dior Homme video down to the #DiorRob tag on twitter. It's pretty obvious how happy and proud they are to have Robert Pattinson as their front man.

Click on the pic below for a refresher of the editorial from their Dior Mag

A24 ~ I think we have all seen how much A24 share our excitement at seeing Robert Pattinson star in The Rover next year. As the US production company for The Rover they have been very vocal in their support of Rob on their social media.
