GAAAAHHH!!! Major casting alert!
Excerpt from Variety:
“Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman, the antiheroine and sometime love interest of the Caped Crusader, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.”
Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman.
In recent weeks, the role came down to Kravitz, Zazie Beetz of “Atlanta,” “Deadpool 2” and “Joker,” “Baby Driver’s” Eiza Gonzalez and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. Ultimately, Kravitz won out, despite some worry about scheduling issues with “Fantastic Beasts.”
Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters June 25, 2021.
Excerpt from THR:
The decision came down over the weekend after a rigorous testing process that saw saw Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska, Eiza Gonzalez and Kravitz read with Robert Pattinson, who is set to play the Dark Knight. The testing process occurred over the first week of the month, and the four were then narrowed to two late last week.
I'm sooooooooo ready!!! Are you into it???

Rob teased us several times before about working with Harmony Korine soon. Rob said Harmony is writing a gangster movie set in Miami with a role specifically for him and Harmony Korine talked to Maxim in September about what this film will be like:
What's your next big project?
I can’t go into super specifics, but it’s like, it’s gonna be my most next-level movie. This is actually the first time I’m talking about it. It’s kind of a sprawling revenge film. It’s pretty, like, full on. I’m gonna put everything I know as a film maker into it. I think it’s gonna be a pretty substantial film. I’m gonna shoot it in Miami right after the New Year.
Harmony also shared good details with Bullett also back in September:
Did [Al Pacino] give you any tips on the Southern Gothic gangster project you’re working on?
Well actually, it’s all done! The script is written. I’m putting the cast together right now, it’s going to be my most ambitious film, and I’m really just going to go for it. It’s some next level shit. It’s a revenge movie, a sprawling, very intense… I don’t want to give away too much, but we’re probably going to start shooting in Miami after the New Year. I’m goin’ for it.
Any particular reason why Miami?
Yeah, just the way the sky looks.
And you’ve got Robert Pattinson locked down?
It’ll have a substantial cast.
Now we have some official casting announcements made. Jamie Foxx and Benicio Del Toro.

Variety:
“Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine, for the first time in his career, has cast an Oscar-winning actor to star in his movie. Sources tell Variety that Jamie Foxx is attached to topline ensemble gangster drama “The Trap.” Korine will write and direct the feature, which the controversial filmmaker behind “Kids” and “Trash Humpers” has described as “his most ambitious film to date.” Benicio del Toro is also attached to star. John Lesher and Charles-Marie Anthonioz are producing the film. Plot details on “The Trap” are being kept under wraps. The revenge pic is expected to shoot early next year in Miami. Following the success of of his last project, “Spring Breakers,” which earned Korine and star James Franco critical acclaim, more A-list talent should circle the gangster drama.
THR:
Benicio Del Toro is joining Jamie Foxx in The Trap, a Southern revenge movie written and to be directed by Spring Breakers helmer Harmony Korine. The script is a crime thriller centering on two childhood friends now in their mid-to-late 30s — one of whom is very successful and the other has spent the majority of his adult life in jail. On the eve of a big recognition for the successful man, the other is released from jail and determined to get even. John Lesher and Charles-Marie Anthonioz are producing the film, which is slated to shoot early next year.
Rob isn't officially cast yet but we'll keep you posted. The Childhood of a Leader and The Lost City of Z still seem to be on Rob's slate but no specific dates for production are locked.

Variety shared some new casting info yesterday. Binoche out. Bejo IN! We welcome Berenice Bejo to the cast of one of Rob's upcoming films, The Childhood of a Leader.

Variety:
Berenice Bejo will play the matriarch in the upcoming drama “The Childhood of the Leader,” Variety has learned.
Juliette Binoche was originally cast in the part, but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. The film, which focuses on the early years of a post-World War I ruler, is the directorial debut of actor Brady Corbet (“Simon Killer”) and co-stars Robert Pattinson and Tim Roth.
Bejo was nominated for a supporting actress Oscar for her breakout role in 2011’s “The Artist,” won the Cannes actress award for 2013’s “The Past” and reteamed with her husband-director, Michel Hazanavicius, in the 2014 war picture “The Search.”
Corbet co-wrote the script with Mona Fastvold. “The Childhood of a Leader” will begin shooting in November in Budapest.
Filming for Idol's Eye (Rumored to be Oct. - Dec.) seems to conflict but we also don't know the size of Rob's role in TCOAL. We'll keep you posted. It'll be great if Rob knocks out 2 films by years end! You can follow our TCOAL news on twitter HERE. Website coming soon.

A few quotes surrounding the release:
  • ThePlaylistHis films may be freaky and funky and may not appeal to the average Joe Moviegoer, but stars line up to work with David Cronenberg. Simply, with unique stories usually married with inventive visuals, the filmmaker makes the kinds of movies few get the chance to do in Hollywood and so it comes as no surprise that his upcoming "Maps To The Stars" is lining up talent left and right....Drugs, disfigurement, manipulation? Yep, that's Cronenberg.
  • Up&Comers: David Cronenberg continues to build an impressive cast for his next feature
  • TheFilmStage: It sounds the director is moving further into unhinged territory
In the press release, producer, Martin Katz, said:
The level of talent that we are attracting to this film speaks to the continuing allure of David Cronenberg. We are thrilled to share these latest casting additions as we take this exciting new project to Cannes.
The film is full steam ahead with sales happening later this month in Cannes and production beginning in Toronto and Los Angeles this July.

Um. Am I excited?? YES. MTTS news makes me get up and dance. This is going to be a great production.

Julianne Moore, John Cusack & Sarah Gadon Joining Robert Pattinson In "Maps To The Stars"

Julianne Moore, John Cusack & Sarah Gadon Joining Robert Pattinson In "Maps To The Stars"

FANTASTIC NEWS!
Such a great cast. Is anyone else excited for this movie?

 photo Mapstothestars.jpg

From Deadline:

Canadian giant Entertainment One will team with Martin Katz’s Prospero Pictures to back David Cronenberg’s upcoming ensemble thriller Maps To The Stars. Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon are to star in the ghost story that’s described as a scathing attack on celebrity-obsessed LA. The script is by Wild Palms‘ Bruce Wagner.

EOne will also handle worldwide sales, which it plans to launch in Cannes next month, and distribute in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia/NZ. Production starts in July in Toronto and LA. This is Cronenberg and Katz’s fourth collaboration. Katz and SBS Films’ Saïd Ben Saïd are producing. Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab, Cronenberg’s manager, will exec produce. EOne’s Benedict Carver is also exec producing and will oversee for the studio. Integral Films’ Alfred Hurmer is co-producing.

From ThePlayList:

Julianne Moore, John Cusack and Sarah Gadon are all now joining the picture, which seems to be moving full steam ahead. Plot details on the movie, penned by Bruce Wagner, have been scarce, except that it will be a trenchant look at Hollywood and celebrity culture. But Deadline adds that it's also a "ghost story," which certainly raises an intrigued eyebrow. The cast is top shelf (though it seems Viggo Mortensen is no longer taking a role, or at least isn't mentioned), with Moore and Cusack working with Cronenberg for the first time. Meanwhile, it will be Gadon's third round with the Cronenberg brood, featuring in "Cosmopolis" and "A Dangerous Method" and Cronenberg Jr.'s "Antiviral."
The movie will be available to buyers next at Cannes and will start shooting in July. eOne will distribute the film in the U.S., Canada, UK and Australia/New Zealand.

From Screencrush:
There are some directors who seem to be able to summon great casts with a simple snap of their fingers and the great David Cronenberg is one of them. His latest film, ‘Maps to the Stars,’ has not only secured financing, but a cast that includes Robert Pattinson, John Cusack and Julianne Moore.

The news comes via Deadline, who say the film is a “…ghost story that’s described as a scathing attack on celebrity-obsessed LA.” Although Cronenberg made his name with nasty little genre movies like ‘Scanners’ and ‘The Fly,’ he’s spent the better part of a decade straying away from horror and making movies like ‘A History of Violence’ and ‘Eastern Promises,’ so the thought of him making a ghost story is intriguing and exciting. The fact that it apparently has satiric elements as well only makes the film (which was written by Bruce Wagner) all the more interesting.
As for the cast, Pattinson was the lead in Cronenberg’s last film, the incredibly divisive ‘Cosmopolis,’ so it looks like the two of them may have a Scorsese/DiCaprio thing going on right now. And, of course, it’s hard to go wrong with actors as consistently strong as Cusack and Moore. We don’t know who any of them are playing, but you’ll be the first to know when we find out.

From ComingSoon:

Entertainment One Films (“eOne”) will handle worldwide sales and distribution in all media and co-finance with Martin Katz’s Prospero Pictures the upcoming thriller Maps to the Stars from award-winning director David Cronenberg. Production on the film will begin this July in Toronto and Los Angeles.

The film's cast includes Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon.

"We're thrilled to secure worldwide sales rights for Maps to the Stars and add it to the lineup in four of our core territories," said Patrice Théroux. "David is a visionary who continues to attract top talent with his unique style and the masterful quality of his filmmaking. With this all-star cast 'Maps to the Stars' is a very exciting international project and we're looking forward to introducing the project in Cannes.”

"'Maps to the Stars' marks Prospero's fourth collaboration with David over the past decade and together with our partners, we are delighted to be launching this audacious new film this year, particularly with eOne," said Prospero Pictures founder and president, Martin Katz. "The eOne team just gets it and continues to showcase films at the highest levels on the international stage."

From a provocative original screenplay by noted Los Angeles author and screenwriter Bruce Wagner (Wild Palms), Maps to the Stars is both a haunting ghost story and a scathing attack on the celebrity-obsessed society of LA.

The film is being produced by Prospero Pictures' Martin Katz together with SBS Productions' Saïd Ben Saïd. Sentient Entertainment's Renee Tab, Cronenberg's manager, will executive produce. Integral Films' Alfred Hurmer is co-producing.

eOne will directly distribute Maps to the Stars in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia/NZ. eOne Films International will sell the rest of the world. eOne's Benedict Carver is executive producing and will oversee the film for the studio.

Katz previously collaborated with Cronenberg on Spider, A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis and was Executive Producer of Hotel Rwanda. Ben Said produced Carnage andPossession. Tab executive produced Cosmopolis and brought both A History of Violence and Eastern Promises to the filmmaker while representing him as an agent at ICM.

More The Rover news and we'll take anything we can get with this production.

Excerpt from Mumbrella:
“The South Australian desert environment can be a tough one to work in, particularly for those coming from a Northern Hemisphere winter but both the cast and crew have thrown themselves into the shoot. We are shooting in some of the most haunting and stunning landscapes in the world, and are fortunate to have such an exceptional cast and a truly talented crew.”

And another quick note from Coming Soon:
FilmNation represents U.S. sales with UTA Independent Film Group. FilmNation also acquired the majority of worldwide sales rights to The Rover and the film has already been sold to leading distributors around the world - including Australia where distributor Roadshow Films’ Managing Director Joel Pearlman added “this is an incredibly exciting project which we are thrilled to be working on with Liz, David and the whole creative team.” Shooting completes in mid-March in South Australia, with postproduction taking place in Sydney.

PhotobucketFrom Deadline:

Robert Pattinson is in for a dusty South Australian shoot with Animal Kingdom director David Michôd, who began filming the slow burn thriller last Tuesday. Pattinson, who completed his Edward Cullen vampire duties last November with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II, stars alongside Guy Pearce in The Rover as Reynolds, a member of a gang of thieves who is left behind after a botched job. Pearce plays Eric, who enlists Reynolds to help track down his car when it’s stolen by the thugs. Australian actors Susan Prior (Animal Kingdom), Gillian Jones (Oscar And Lucinda), and David Field (Chopper) join Pattinson, Pearce, Scoot McNairy, and Anthony Hayes in the pic, written by Michôd from a story by Michôd and Zero Dark Thirty actor Joel Edgerton. Liz Watts is producing for Porchlight Films and David Linde for Lava Bear Films. FilmNation took most global rights and will rep the film on U.S. sales with UTA Independent Film Group.

Scoot McNairy cast alongside Robert Pattinson in The Rover

Scoot McNairy cast alongside Robert Pattinson in The Rover

Excerpt from The Film Stage:
Photobucket I’ve enjoyed the work of actor Scoot McNairy since 2007′s indie drama In Search of a Midnight Kiss and certainly 2010′s low-budget sci-fi feature Monsters, but it’s safe to say this fall marks his break-out in Hollywood.

The actor is one of the best elements of Ben Affleck‘s Argo ensemble and delivers one of my favorite performances in Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly. It looks like the industry has taken notice, as he’s joined the cast of two highly-anticipated features.

Buried in a Deadline article revealing that he’s linked up with WME, McNairy has joined David Michod‘s Animal Kingdom follow-up The Rover, with Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce. Described as an “existential” western, the film is set in the near-future and follows a man who treks across the Australian outback in an attempt to recover his stolen car from a gang of punks — one of whom is portrayed by Pattinson (and perhaps another could be McNairy).

Scoot definitely sounds like he's on good track and is being noticed by critics. Another positive addition to The Rover cast. :)

Sarah Gadon To Star Opposite Robert Pattinson In "Cosmopolis"

SO we have another addition to the cast of Robert Pattinson's "Cosmopolis".
Sarah Gadon joins as Elsie, Pattinson’s estranged wife!

Photobucket

With production set to being shooting this summer in Toronto, casting on David
Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric is wrapping up. Samantha Morton joined the cast last week—via a Robert Pattinson interview—now she’s been confirmed and according to Entertainment One, who is handling the picture’s distribution in Canada, one more has joined the cast: Canadian actress Sarah Gadon.

Known in Canada for the television series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” Gadon currently stars on the CBC drama, “The Border.” More importantly she has already worked with Cronenberg landing a smaller role in the filmmaker’s already-shot “A Dangerous Method” where she plays Emma Jung, Carl Jung’s wife. That picture stars Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel.

Gadon will be playing the role of Pattinson’s estranged wife Elise Shifrin.
