I was serious about the CA school comment. I had a teacher who once told us how he would teach geography and many kids could not identify the Pacific Ocean (they would write, "the beach"). Sad, really sad!

AJ---oh, I know! I live on the outskirts of it here in San Diego, the drugs flow like water at my daughter's high school (my alma mater)...she cannot even use the rest room without smelling burning weed. She and friends even found a baggie of white powder last year, which they tossed out of fear.
I just hate to think of Rob fucking up at this point....I would never put anything past anyone but I hate the rumors.

Well, I'm sending out Rob love vibes now. I hope Rob's journal to the fates included a pleas for the strength not to go the way of Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Heath Ledger, Joaquim Phoenix .... and the list goes on and on in young Hollywood.

Kate---it's hard because there are about 3500 kids at the school (like a small university) and policing them is near impossible. I just have to trust my instincts as good parent and trust my daughter. Honestly, it's just more "in your face" then it used to be (case in point, KStew!). For the most part, there are a LOT of good kids at the high school.
I think that Rob thinks highly of his parents and their feelings and he was obviously raised well to think for himself, have good work ethic, be polite and articulate. I don't think that it's him in that rag.
Lynn- our comments crossed that time. That must be a worry for you! But like you said you need to be able to trust that your daughter will make the right choice ;-) and like you said there are a LOT of good kids there so that's a plus!
Kate---it is a constant worry and lecture fodder for the car ride to school...but, living in CA there is always the reality of drug use. My husband always teases me that I must have been a geek in school, because, I wasn't the quinnesential California, stoner Valley girl. No, I just had fear like you would not believe!
Well, it goes in trends...weed is always around, then it was meth (or crystal), then it was heroin, now it's cocaine and then you wonder what ever happened to weed? As a parent, I just have to be hypervigilant!
