  4. That is awesome! I'm really disappointed because I live in Sydney, Australia and from everything I've read it doesn't appear as though they are going to release How To Be here. So I suppose I have to wait for DVD or something and have it shipped over. Boo.

  6. I have never heard of this festival or this award, but clearly whoever is in charge of it recognizes that Rob is a great talent, so God bless you, whoever you are! You rock.

We heART you, RobART! And I haven't even seen this film yet, and will probably be in the same boat as Erin in Oz, even though I live here in the US.

    I clearly need sleep.

  7. That's fantastic, hopefully will give the film more profile too. Am travelling in New Zealand and haven't had my "Robfix" for 3 days until now...been feasting my eyes and my soul.

  8. It's so frustrating having no access to this here in Oz, I want to see this so badly and I want it right now.

I wonder if I can find that Nordic ring thing to drool over in the meantime. I have seen HP, Bad Mother HB, and Haunted Airman, but I want this one so much.

Erin it screened in sydney at some Uni for a festival, check the film website, so there must be a copy of it floating about in your city, hound some cinemas.

  10. @kespax Do you know any more details on where in Sydney? I must not be looking in the right place because I've been on www.howtobemovie.com and scoured Google with no luck. If you can direct me to a site with some info that would be fantastic! Already found where Little Ashes will be shown locally, but no luck on How To Be. :-(

I'm so happy for Rob. He deserves it and I'm sure there are plenty still coming in the future!!especially if he plays Georges Duroy....haaaaa so excited!!!
This news really brings some sunshine cause today the sky is cloudy in England :(

Have a wonderful day people :)

  24. Erin, it's not there on the HTB site anymore, just a thanks for coming on the 31 March. Pisses me off it's been screened ONCE.

Email them or maybe roboz site has details as suggested.

  25. lol riddleinside, I'm in cloudy England too! And I am VERY excited about Bel-Ami. I studied the novel way back in high school, and it would be a great part for Rob. I know he can make a wonderful manipulative, cheating, moustache-twirling Georges!

  27. Congratulations Rob! The movie was funny, sad, touching and tragic in so many ways all brought together by Rob. He was amazing. He is amazing (and so damn gorgeous too!) Can't wait to see him win something for Little Ashes!

  28. Did anyone get the info about this festival? I mean, I remember the discussion yesterday evening about if it's a jury or people voting for the award, but nobody seemed to know...

Anyway, I'm still glad even if it's viewer's choice. It means they liked him in the movie - even if I'm very aware that fans are not always objective LOL

    ReplyDelete
  29. sort of small SPOILER
for Bel ami story line... Not that much but if you've never heard of the story and want the surprise, don't read

    LittleBear :
I quite agree about Bel ami, I thought that he would be quite good too... I wonder which route they will choose scriptwise, the character was quite likeable at the beginning, he turns manipulative in the middle or after (if I rightly remember). I hope that they will be able to show how disapointment turns him into who he becomes...

That was my interpretation of the novel at least LOL; Maybe I wanted to believe in him cause I had liked him so much at the beginning (unlike l'education sentimentale or le rouge et le noir...).

  30. *spoilers, continued*

Anna: yes, I was actually wondering how they would portray Georges. It is a great character to play, because he gradually becomes disillusioned and cynical, but he also less and less likeable as the story unfolds... (and there isn't even a real love story to redeem him!) That's always a difficult thing to pull off in a movie. The audience has to like the character, at least to some extent! So, let's hope they have a good script writer.

Also - I was wondering if they'll have him play with a French accent, Ă  la Little Ashes? Not sure how I'd feel about that ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Just to clarify - I liked the character too in the book, I think that's the point, you still identify with him and like him in spite of everything. I'm only saying it might be tricky to convey that in a movie (but I'm sure Rob will manage to make us like him somehow... he he).

  32. *spoiler goes on...*

To me, the turning point was when he was finally married to that woman whom he had fallen in love with... And he was so happy and in love, and she "threw a buckets of ice cubes at him" in the coach. That was heartbreaking!

About the accent: If the movie is made in english, they should speak normal english... We will get the film dubbed in France anyway, so no need to fake an accent.
They won't do the movie in french right? Oh, that would be interesting and I would forgive any foreign accent if we get to hear Rob speak french *Anna in Dreamland*.

    ReplyDelete
  33. In the San Francisco Chronicle interview:

"He talks about one part he's considering in which he speaks a foreign language he doesn't know"

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?..

    *both Annas in Dreamland*

  34. *crossing fingers*

Hey, if he needs somebody to tutor him for french, I'm available!

I really hope that this project will be possible, but there is a good chance or he would not have talked about it, right...

  35. @Divinesally: I saw you posted a link of youtube about a song for New Moon.
Many Twilight fans are suggesting this one: what do you guys think?
just close your eyes, listen and think about Robward!

  36. @littleBear: I so agree with you. don't forget "seductive" in your Georges description ;)
ok I can't help thinking about what Gozde is going to come up with for Georges Duroy: Roborges? Robroy? :D

PS: we're not sure yet he's going to play that part but in the mean time, I can't see why he wouldn't be given the first part. finger crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  37. oh oh oh I just missed the conversation between LittleBear and Anna: I agree with you guys!!

However I've always been facinated by Georges, even when he turned really cynical and manipulative. you still feel attached to him, no one can resist his charm, (especially the reader)...at the end you're bit confused not knowing if you like him or not,but it's a pleasant feeling!
it's complicated and that's why I think it's very interesting for Rob. But please, please, I don't want Rob speaking French in the movie!! don't get me wrong, I'm French (living in England)and I'm sure Rob is cute when speaking French, but his English kills me in a very good way and I want to hear it!!
I wouldn't mind if they choose a French actoress with a French accent though, to play Clotilde de Marelle :D

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks a lot for all that info about Bel-Ami, I hope that movie will be done and hope he will play the character that you are mentioning, it seems very interesting, I can imaging Rob playing a character like that.. also in hope it is in that "foreign languaje he doesn´t know".. it will melt as all to hear him speaking freanch.

  39. Even if Twilight didn't happen.. I believe Rob's role as Art would have put him on everyone's radar.

Art is such a wonderful paradox of complexity and simplicity.

To date, Art is my favourite role

    (ya think?)

    Suz {hearts} her Art.

Rob and everyone else involved in this sweet, precious film -- congratulations.

  40. @ riddleinside :

I see what you mean about the accent, I love his "posh" (according to the guadian LOL) english accent.
Have you ever heard his french? (apart from the little ashes' trailer...)

Rob as Georges looks really good to me, but I actually wonder why they would choose an english native speaker to play Georges, unless it's to try to reach a wider audience than just France. So they would not choose french if that's the aim, english is the international language. Then again, maybe it would be an international collaboration like for Little Ashes. We really don't know anything about this project. *finger crossed*

    @ Mechevpao:

The novel "Bel ami" is really famous in France, it's usually studied in high school, so I think that most french know what it's about.

  41. I'm thrilled for Rob!
anyone know where this festival takes place?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Robbie... you have many talents... you are amazing...

    you deserve this.. great job..

    ReplyDelete
  43. definetely he is Bel and easily could be (my) AMI ...

There was "Bel Ami" serias long ago... I don't know ... from the 70' ? Don't remember anything but moustache and me, looking in surprise "he ? bel ? mis-take...", the character was a total bum... which is actually very good opportunity to play

will have to read it again... is this by Guy Maupassant ?

    ReplyDelete
  44. and - in Harrodians - Rob's school everybody studies French, I heard him saying/reading something in French and it was nice, I also thought I heard him mentioning that he can speak a little Spanish but somebody here didn't agree with that info

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sure I saw a clip somewhere where he was reading/speaking french. He kept having to start over because he kept laughing messing up.

    so sweet.

But would def love the film to be done in english to hear his accent.

French spoken film would have VERY limited release. France and here.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @Anna

Yes I did hear his French in interviews, but just few words! He was cute and if the movie is in French he'll probably learn to improve his French.
However, I don't see the point of not choosing him as Georges, whoelse can he play? Forestier???non pleaaaaase!!!
Anyway, we're making loads of speculation only after one interview on the topic. We need to be patient :) (but I'm sure he'll have the first part :D)

  47. hmmm... isn't it a bit strange - an Englishman playing Bel Ami (beautiful Frenchman) ?
In fact there are lots of cute French actors...
