  2. Love the ending:) I don't think I like the interviewer doh, she makes him feel toooo uncomfortable. Does anyone agree?

  3. I REALLY enjoyed watching this again! Thanks, Goz! :)

  4. I'd not seen this before! It's adorable, thanks for sharing...Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) also British, was on a late night talk show and equally had no clue about the 4th...said he loved the parties and celebration, with the 'crackers' (fireworks) but didn't know what we were celebrating...he was told that's when we beat your a--! 'Independence Day'and was like 'oh...really?'(laughs, embarrassed)...he said they don't teach that part in school...hahaha evidently from Rob's lack of knowledge it would be true...so cute! Thanks again
    :-)

  5. LOL I LOVE that vid! ;-)

Thanks Goz and Happy 4th of July to everyone in the US ;-)

  6. Just love Rob in this interview. Love his sense of humor and improv.
    Happy 4th of July!

  7. I love it.

I don't know why, but I sort of feel as though Rob has become an honorary American over the past year and a half. It's as if we've adopted him and he's adopted aspects of our culture.

    ReplyDelete
  8. lol, Americans have no idea how little us Europeans actually know about their culture (Thankgsiving? What's that?).

But yeah, I'm sure Rob's caught on by now. He's a bright boy.

And I agree that the interviewer is damn annoying. But it kind of makes Rob's adorable dorkiness stand out even more :))

  9. LMAO, He is such a gomer... Ahhh the good old days when he could just be...

  10. Being from Philly myself (where this interview took place back in 2008), I also didn't care for the interviewer, but I agree that his dorkiness did shine through and that's one of my favorite things about him. Oh, and I loved his comment about the Philly cheesesteak (come on back Rob and I'll buy you all the cheesesteaks you want, lol). Also loved his comment about sacrificing Americans in Britain on the 4th of july (LOVE his British humor).
Love ya Rob, you ARE an honorary American!!!!

  11. Goz - that woman is the single worst interviewer I've ever heard. She must be an intern or something ... I didn't realize how bad she was until I converted this to MP3 and listened to it w/o vid. She's horrible!! He's totally adorkable, of course!

  12. Good one Rob...at least he knew that Prussia doesn't exist anymore! LOL

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow American Robsessors!

  13. LOL This was a really cute interview, Rob seemed very happy, I hope he doesn't lose that spark as time passes.

Very funny that he was clueless about the 4th...hahaha, I'm sure the history is taught, they just don't realize that we celebrate it here in the states :)

LittleBear, all of this time we have been chatting , I always thought you were an American LOL :))))

Have a safe and Happy 4th everyone :)

  14. he he Yvonne, fooled you ;)

I'm actually from France, like your name! And if I recall my history classes correctly, we were on your side for that war - mostly because we hated the Brits, truth be told. What can I say, Rob hadn't showed up to redeem him people yet :p

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sigh, he's so adorkable. Happy 4th ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  16. LittleBear LOL about Rob, redeeming his people. Yes, he has done that single-handedly :)

I am a self-proclaimed Francophile ( I heart the USA, don't get me wrong), but I have a love for all things French (my grandfather was French, hence the name), I even have a tattoo in French :)

I am always amazed at the different places we are all from, Rob could possibly bring on world peace ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Being as British as Rob I have to shamefully admit I didn't actually know what today was really about... but Happy 4th of July to you all from me anyway!

Rob, come home and celebrate properly! You can sacrifice with me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. han, LOL

We Americans claim our Independance, but you get to claim Rob!!! Not bad, if you ask me!

    ReplyDelete
  19. @ LittleBear "Europeans know little about American history/culture"

    1. maybe the British - I don't know their schools well, however Rob is much better educated than average high school absolvent (better school) and an avid reader so he knows a lot ... whereas Moyer - the opposite
    2. there are some natioonalities that aren't charmed by Am culture and don't like speaking English, I assume they might know little 'cuz they contest USA
    3. but for example here in Poland, English (Br) is the most popular as the first foreign language (we learn 2), USA has always been respected and liked (that changed after Irak and with 1 mln emmigration to GB) and while learning English children get to know a lot about tradition, geography, everyday life etc. both Br and Am. They organize Halloween lessons and know what Thanksgiving is and who is to thank whom for what :))))))))

  20. PS

    Happy Independence Day !
We also know this day and remember it meant a lot here.
Not mentioning Tom Cruise's film :D

  21. Rob, in Philadelphia (where it all began) discussing Independence Day.

    Perfect.

    Thanks Goz for posting this..

remind me someday to tell you how I was in this same building in Bala Cynwyd, PA on the same day ... utterly clueless... wondering what all the fuss was about!

    (i still cry about it)

  22. Lovin' the cultural exchange! I always liked all things British, even - dare I say it - some of the food. Once fixed a lovely steak and kidney pie complete with a ceramic raven. My kids said the kitchen smelled like "the boys' bathroom." While pleased that they made a distinction (since they were boys), I didn't serve it often.

Later I learned that my ancestors came here in the early 1600's. That explained a lot. Then I found Rob and grew increasingly bitter. I'm convinced that if my family had just stayed home I would have grown up next door to him, been his first love and the one he would return to in a few years.(The boy deserves his fun.)

Oh well, Happy 4th! (I think.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Margot - good for you I guess! Sadly, if you ask a French kid what he knows about July 4, he'll probably answer something like: "euh... it's 10 days before Bastille day?.." We're self-centred like that :p

Yvonne - and I'm an americanophile!! Kind of have to be, my significant other being from Texas and all...

Anyway. Anyone else going through Rob withdrawal? It's been almost a day since the last pics... I hope Rob is safely hidden somewhere with a beer and a girl!

  24. Love those early interviews when he was so fresh-faced and utterly awkward and adorkable. He's become a bit (but just a bit) more polished by now. I hope all the craziness that surrounds him everyday now doesn't change him.

I hope wherever he is today, he's having fun and taking a nice harassment-free break.

Everyone, happy Independence Day with your bbqs and fireworks. If anyone is planning to shoot any off themselves, for goodness sake be careful.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey gals - enjoy the day and if you need some internal fireworks you can always go back and look at the dossier shots. I frequently revisit those :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Diane, you crack me up!!! If your family had just stayed "home"...hahaha yup, you and Rob = soulmates <3 and eeeww about the steak and kidney pie...LOL

LB, so funny, and you have a Texan for a significant other!

Moargot, really cool to hear your POV :) Halloween lessons? Hilarious! It IS one of our BEST holidays tho! And, BTW, A LOT of us here are not happy about Iraq either :(

Really fun chat about our cultures :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hmmm... I thought Independence Day celebrates when we declared our independence, not when we won it. I thought it had something to do with signing the Declaration of Independence. Born and raise in the USA, shows what I remember from school.

I agree with you all, this interviewer was terrible. We learned absolutely nothing. I love his awkward responses. His voice just melts me.

I love this site - keep it up Goz. You understand us like no other site does.

  28. Happy 4th!

Diane, I'm a DAR, too (Daughters of the American Revolution)as I'm assuming your ancestors were on the USA side. My earliest ancestors here (father's side) came from Scotland and father & son fought. In Scotland, if you aren't the first-born, you are out of luck for any inheritance which is why so many made their way to the US.

  29. Happy 4th Goz and Dani! You ladies are the best in giving me my Rob fix. Olive juice!

*waves* Happy fireworks day fellow Robsessors. Have fun, be safe and be tipsy lots!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey Chicago!
Yes, England and Scotland. My uncle used to try and convince me to join the DAR but I was convinced I'd have to have blue and silver hair and sit around drinking tea and bitching about foreigners. There's only one foreigner I want to carry on about. Wonder if his ancestors hearted our ancestors? Bet they did, bet they begged them not to go, bet they said, "some day one of your descendants is going to be soooo sorry you bailed!"

  31. GOZ,

  34. IM SORRY, I SHOULD HAVE WISHED US ALL A HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, WHEREVER, OR WHO EVER WE ARE IN THE WORLD.

    ONE WORLD...ONE LOVE...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yvonne - Iraq, yep... and I have to add that children/teens who learn French, German, Spanish or Italian also learn about culture etc, that's obvios, so we know about Bastille , not mentioning that Poles considered France their closest friend for centuries, and adored Napoleon

    LittleBear ... I didn't say "the French", did I ? :)))))
I think that's good for us learning those languages - it gives us wider knowledge and awrness of the other cultures
and I'm no americanophile (sorry) but I'm addicted to British (mostly English) culture and language

the "thing" between the French and the English (hope it will die soon) is typical for close neighbours, just conflict of interests (? not sure of vocab.) it was the same German-Poles and Poles-Russian, and the former is luckily changing, hope everythinh will smooth soon regarding the world getting smaller because the net and young ppl making friends all over the world so easily

    ReplyDelete
  36. lol @ Margot, no you did not single us out, I did that myself :)))

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wow. I haven't watched this interview in forever.
The last part is definitely my favorite.
I, if it is even possible, just fell in love with him more.

    ReplyDelete
  38. He's so adorkable. I hope he's staying in NYC for the weekend- not for any shipper reason, but there's usually a great fireworks display and lots of partying. Hopefully he can enjoy without it being crazy for him.

    ReplyDelete
  39. And Happy 4th of July everyone!

And Rob- I have some ideas how I can be your human sacrifice, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @ Little Bear: Don't worry, there are countries in Europe where you are taught what the Boston Tea Party was, what the 4th of July means and what happened at the Bastille (and you don't have to take classes in French to learn that). And Guy Fawkes Day in Britain, of course - I wonder how many American actors could come up with the right answer if asked about Bonfire Night and the reason for it.

@ margot: Perhaps it's because France and England were at war for 100 years. And both had a lot of colonies later on.

Happy Independence Day to all of you over there.

  41. I love this site. Look how so many are from around the world and blogging because we all have the same thing in common---adoring Rob.
@Chicago--my grandmother was involved with DAR. We're all from Chicago but none of us live there now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. So clueless to how gorgeous he really is!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, Diane, I agree about DAR, never spent the time & money to join...just know that I'm qualified and found the family tree online.

Ripley~Which "side" were you from...N, S, or W? I grew up SW, but then lived most W or far W.

Margot, did you know that Chicago has more Poles than any place outside of Poland? I grew up with so many...very good-looking people!

  44. Being from Quebec we get everyone's culture. I'm half French and half British, 18th generation here on my father's side, 2nd generation on my Mom's. I was brought up by a British Grandmother so I love steak and kidney pie, one of my favorites, also kippers and fish and chips. However, I also grew up eating pea soup and pig's feet..but we are only 50 miles from the U.S. border so we know all things American.

We had our Canada Day fireworks on July 1st. My cousins from England were visiting for the first time early in June and niether of them knew any Canadian history and they were well educated, both had gone to Cambridge, one was a head mistress at a posh British private school the other was a Chief Inspector on the Police force. Canada is a member of the Commonweath and they didn't know our history, so why would they know American? We told them about July 4th. I found it funny because I sure as heck know all about British History.

    Happy 4th guys!

  45. He is so funny ! That interviewer sucked terribly though. She was not prepared at all, felt like it was a waste of his time.
