Christina Ricci Casting in Bel Ami: Confirmed

You see that? It's Rob thanking his lucky stars for starring with hot women and praying to gossip Gods for no bullshit stories about orgies with his castmates :)

From Gossip Cop:

Usually it’s role rumors about Robert Pattinson that draw big attention, but today the buzz is all about a possible future co-star.

An avalanche of outlets picked up a Production Weekly item that reported Christina Ricci will join Pattinson in the upcoming “Bel Ami.” The speculation has Ricci playing a character named Clotilde in the tale of Georges Duroy (Pattinson) and his corrupt rise to power in Paris.

A lot of people asked Gossip Cop whether the casting rumor was true.

We can confirm that it is.

A rep for Ricci tells Gossip Cop the deal was recently signed.

  4. Really love Christina Ricci. Hate the manwhore rumors though. To me it makes him look less of a serious actor. Wish the tabs would focus on his work.

  19. Read somewhere that Ricci was a terror on set?! That she has all those weight issues and people couldn't talk of food around her, personally I don't particularly enjoy her(only seen her in a couple of movies Penelope being one of them which I've enjoyed but only for James McAvoy!) I hope Rob doesn't end up being so miserable on the set for any of these actresses diva behavior! We've seen how miserable he was on RM set and EDR is such a sweet girl!! Hope all is well in BA land!

  22. yes, ricci has been a handful on sets in the past, but hopefully that's changed. She's very sassy though, she'll be a pistol on the set.

Uma is a goddess, one of the most gorgeous women in the world, and very witty and smart. I can imagine Robert and her getting along peachy.

And Kristen Scott Thomas in my opinion is one of the best actresses around, Robert is so lucky to work with her!

    Really excited about Bel Ami!

    ReplyDelete
  23. She's hot. Is she single? Maybe Rob and her end hooking up.

  24. Can't wait for Bel Ami, but first can't wait for Remember me (one at a time, one at a time... :))

  25. Goz, congrats on the interview, good luck on the next one. Don't think of yourself as vertically challenged, as someone who is only 5' 2", I know there's nothing wrong with me, it's everybody else who's too tall.

I still think of Christina Ricci as Wednesday Adams, I don't know how that's going to work out when I see the movie LOL.

  27. Christina Ricci is a great actress, this film will be excellent

    ReplyDelete
  28. Christina is a hot mess in real life, but I really like her onscreen. Loved her in the opposite of sex, that's such a great movie!

Uma's the one though. Uma is all that is right in the world. Amen.

  29. please, please script Remember Me...

  30. NOOOOOOOO - she can't be Clotilde!!!!
    Wrong choice IMO.
Uma should be Clotilde - Ricci should be Rachel

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is probably the only movie of Robert's, from the ones I know about, that I am not looking forward to.

I am looking forward to Remember Me and Unbound Captives.

I read the book, and I didn't like it and thought that it had no purpose or any likable characters, and the ending was abrupt and unsatisfying. The lead character doesn't change, he remains despicable all throughout without any remorse on his part, repentance or comeuppance. So it's just an off-putting aimless story.

I can only hope that the script is much better then the book, or else this is one movie that I am not looking forward to, even though I love Rob.

  32. I'm such a peeping Tom... always on this web site getting the latest Rob info. Decided I'd join and post for the first time. So...Hey everyone! And yes... I'm Robsessed!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Welcome Carpediem.... being Robsessed out of the closet is infinitely better than hiding there alone!

Marna: watch Ricci in The Man Who Cried with J Depp and you'll never see her as Wednesday Adams again ;)

DM: all a matter of taste I guess. I love a good character study, even (especially) of a scoundrel. I find this one of de Maupassant's most compelling novels and if done right it should be gut-wrenching on screen... not to mention very, very sexy!

  42. This is a review of a 1976 version of Bel Ami...............and we thought Rob was overexposed now???????? Whew!!!
    *************************************

"Bel Ami" is refreshing and funny, and is a real treat for fans of 70's adult (XXX) cinema. There is an actual plot, the actors and actresses are both very attractive and perform just as well in the dialog-ridden scenes fully clothed as they do naked in their sex scenes, which are numerous. The film also has the almost non-stop euphoria of beautiful 70's Euromusic on the soundtrack. This is a film that adults can view and not feel ashamed or embarrassed. Harry Reems of course is terrific and quite comical as the bumbling hero of the piece, bumping his head on an over-sized phallic sculpture in a so-called art studio, rolling down a grassy hill with the latest female to jump his bones, and trying to sneak a peak at the almost unbelievably beautiful Christa Linder as she showers. Another treat for genre fans is the presence of Jacqueline Laurent, best known for her harrowing roles in the Jess Franco films "Lorna the Exorcist" and "Sinner". Here she looks beautiful, kicks back, and anxiously samples the physical charms of Mr. Reems, although the scenes between Mr. Reems and Ms. Laurent appear to be either soft core or director Ahlberg avoided showing penetration. And speaking of director Ahlberg, whose fine "I, A Woman" remains a classic, this film proves that ten years after "I, A Woman" he was able to move into more explicit fare and still retain the touch of class and dignity that many erotic filmmakers either lose or never have at all.

    ReplyDelete
  43. femroc, I...uh...

"penetration"?!? I'm just speechless right now...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks, RPG! Just got in; ooo, MoTU update, yum!

CR sounds like a good choice; she seems very selective in her roles.

; ) Dinner with Hubs; gotta love "date night" Friday nights.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @femroc, ? So the first BA movie was actually a softcore porn flick? Really? (Gwen really needs to read Bel Ami asap.)

Got side-tracked on the 70's Euromusic line...

    ReplyDelete
  46. I seriously wonder how they're going to film some of these scenes... I mean obviously, it's not going to be x rated...but are we gonna see boobs? If so, we need to see ass.. Fair turn around....

Shit that chick in the movie with Billy Burke & Greg Kinear did full on frontal nudity and it was only rated R... Totally saw Billys fine ass... Can't remember the name, great movie...

So we must see Robs behind,.. Period!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mel did naked butt in one (or more) of the Lethal Weapon flicks.

Gwen votes yes for Naked Rob; partial or full frontal. Vote yes here!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I vote hell yes to whatever he'd be willing to show us! I don't care if it's the backs of his knees or his, uh, "sparklier" parts...

    it's all good with me-bring it! ;))

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hell, I'm just thrilled that Rob's going to work with these 3 absolutely awesome actresses! Maybe he'll get some acting pointers from them. I'm looking forward to this more than RM or Eclipse. I'm losing interest in Twilight. Excited for Rob's other projects.

    ReplyDelete
  50. and RPG, I agree with you on the fair turn around comment. somehow it's much less offensive to see almost every part of an actress's anatomy-and I mean I have seen A LOT in some rated R movies-but heaven forbid we get a peek at some junk! double standards...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well, I vote YES to any Rob nudity but do you think he'd do behind or frontal? He seems kind of shy about it. Natalie Portman won't do nudity.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Rpl,

I know!!!! Viggo went full on balls swinging in a movie... But that was nekked fighting.... There's good nekked & bad nekked....

    Teri,
    total jinx!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'll be happy with chest, butt, feet and maybe a little V...full Monty I'd freak out...

    ReplyDelete
  54. LMFAO, "good nekked and bad nekked"! you're not kiddin'-sooooo true! ;))

yep, full on and we'd all need to be mopped up off the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  55. @DeDe, thanks for the other pictures, I knew there had to be more LOL. Sam's girlfriend is absolutely gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Whoops, I meant Sam's SISTER is gorgoeus, not his girlfriend. Arrgghh, the hand types without listening to what the brain says!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm with all my NB's about the nekkidness!!! Although I don't know if I could handle it (that's what she said) if there was a full frontal...let's face it. I freakin' flatline when there is JawPorn and he's usually full clothed...do ya'll really think I'm gonna make it if there are "sparkly" bits showing?!??!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Gwen: No, the first, second, third or later Bel Ami movies were not porno flicks, although the one femroc found is...lol

@Sleeper: version I've seen is bit different to the one from yr link. Be interesting to see the final draft...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks AP!

And ITA, DM. Not sure BA is "my thing" either. Don't particularly care for aimless/pointless stories or especially glorifying despicable characters. Probably why I've not read the book (yet). Doesn't sound at all cheery.

So guy is a manwhore, gets ahead in life because of it, doesn't ever change nor care about himself or others?

Someone give me a better synopsis or at least a reason why I should read the book. Movie has Rob; good enough for Gwen to see it. ; )

    ReplyDelete
  60. Gwen,
I never would have read the book or script if not for Rob... I am biased simply because of Rob!

    ReplyDelete
  61. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074196/

Here is the link where I found that review from an older version of Bel Ami - I'd like to see this version of the movie - wonder where you could find it.

    ReplyDelete
  62. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039735/usercomments

Here's a link to yet ANOTHER version of Bel Ami that was filmed in 1947 and Angela Lansbury was Clotilde.

So this movie has been done several times.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yes Gwen basically it is an aimless off-puting story. So Bel Ami in the end marries Suzanna but still plans to cheat on her although he sometimes acts as if he loves her (that's literally how the story ends).

Now if the author had had him fall truly for the innocent Suzanna and work honestly to win her and woo her, the story would have been MUCH better (at least one could say that the character started out unlikable but grew and developed throughout the story and learned from his mistakes).

He basically still plans to sleep around, and doesn't lose any of what he got. Basically he doesn't suffer any consequences for his behavior. The story's ending is very abrupt and unsatisfying.

And guys about the sex scenes, the book I read didn't have any, so I'm guessing they're going to add those to the movie version, as you guys are saying?

Anyways like I said, as it stands this movie is just not for me...I'll probably end up watching it anyways because of Robert lol, but dvd rental NOT in theaters.

    ReplyDelete
  64. please please please dont put a funny moustache on Rob in this movie

    ReplyDelete
  65. Re: your interview, Goz. YOU ROCK, GIRL! :D

  66. @tgill: "he's such a shit"

I know!!! I totally loathe Georges! Can't wait to see Rob in that role! :D

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am going to read the Bel Ami script this weekend, thank you Dina. I am undecided on full frontal due to the good/bad naked thing. Not sure if I could cope with ball swinging lunging even in my happy place.

Gwen did you get the email?

    ReplyDelete
  68. @Gwen - good let me know what you think ....

    Happy reading

    ReplyDelete
  69. Wait for it he'll be sleeping with her next. Who wants to bet on it? There'll be some daft story line about how he's dumped Kristen for Christina or Someone's jealous etc.

    ReplyDelete
  70. @Kate, the BA script is actually quite incredible---cannot wait to see Rob do this! Kind of amazing when you can picture him in this role so easily---and CR seems like perfect casting as well.

This die-hard spoiler queen thanks you, Kate! ; )

    ReplyDelete
  71. From what I recall, BelAmi did not have anythng overt--it would have them entering a room and exiting an hour and half later, etc., leaving it to the imagination what was going on. The idea, at least to me, was not the actual sex, but rather the conniving at any lengths (no pun intended although it did just occur to me and i am not erasing it--am I bad?)to survive, then to get ahead, to not end up, as the book began, with a few coins and wondering how to survive to the next paycheck.

I don't know if it is because I read them at the same time, or if it is because I was incredibly sheltered and naive, but I was floored with the contrast between the character of Bel-amie and the writer in Hamsun's 'Hunger.' They were both hungry, both wanting to not be hungry, to go beyond having but a few coins, yet they chose different ways to get out of it. It is this depth of character (or lack thereof) that I would love to see how Rob will portray.

I actually cannot picture Thurman and Thomas for parts, perhaps because I read it at a young age. I CAN picture Ricci as Clo. Except for the fact that Rob is talented, I cannot even picture himself as Georges; it may be because I had thought Georges was so old when I read it at age 13 or so. I am sur eso much went over my head; i had thought he was spending inappropriate time with women, with no idea of sex; in my world it is not proper for a man and woman not married to each other to be in the same room alone together,so I just figured he was being bad/manipulative to that extent, and to tell so many women he loved them and then did not treat them all very well seemed like using them, and that was all bad enough to me in those days. I may go back and read it over.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Maybe they can get Kristen to play Suzanne. :-D

    (Was that wicked of me?)

    ReplyDelete
  73. @Gwen
Glad I could be of service, what did you think of RM? (well in not give away specific details way of course)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Christina is georgous!

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Kate, I liked it! I think Rob can rock the part in Bel Ami! ; )

There's something in the script I didn't quite get, but I'll save that question for a future Bel Ami spoiler thread...

  76. @Dina & @Gwen426
