I just got word that the Twilight star has signed on for Friday's Hope for Haiti telethon. As of right now, it looks like Rob will be the sole presenter in London with performances by Jay-Z and Bono. (Gozde: Robert Pattinson asks me for money I'll give it to him. He asks me for my kidney and first born...I'll give it to him :))
Stateside performers—some announced and others not—will include:
Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Shakira and Bruce Springsteen are among those who will perform live during the two-hour benefit, which will air on all the major television networks (including our very own E!).
Other mega-celebs who will present and/or help in the phone banks are Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt, Anna Kendrick, Sandra Bullock, Zac Efron, Bradley Cooper, Renee Zellweger, Chris Pine, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Colin Farrell, Jon Hamm, Gabby Sidibe and Emily Blunt, among many others.
No word yet on Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, but as I was the first to tell you Hollywood's hottest vampire movie trio is a very wanted group for the telethon because of the impact they would have with young people.
Also on organizers' wish list are—no surprise—Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie.
Clooney is set to host from Los Angeles with Wyclef John in New York City and CNN newsman

I never thought he would NOT want to help in some way, but I did wonder if his shyness and his not wanting to be in the limelight, not wanting to 'play' famous, would stop him from doing something like this. It is like a reverse of what happened with the fan taking her clothes her off; he remarked to Ellen D. that he felt he had abused his position. And now he gets to use his position for good. This is a good cathartic response and action.
Does anyone know for sure which specific TV stations in the NY/Nj area will have this? I will have to DVR it as I do not watch TV on Friday evenings. Thanks for any info.

Ok-I think this is wonderful, and I'm so GLAD Rob is a part of this-not just for the obvious selfish reason of wanting to see him, but to seee him use his fame in this way is such a great thing. This shows what we've known all along-Rob has a tremendous heart, and desire to make a difference. What a doll indeed! He is a perfect host or whatev for the UK branch of the telethon.

@Suz-Here here! This is a tragedy unlike anything we've seen for a while. Those people were totally unprepared for this disaster. It's horrific over there in the aftermath, and the suffering is immense. We must all stay aware of this, and give however and whatever we can to help. And ona personal note, I feel so privileged to be part of a group of wonderful women with Robsessed who have big hearts, and care about the world they live in, and are willing to pitch in right away in a situation like this. God bless you all.

I knew he wouldn't say no to something like this. He always says he feels awkward during signings or public appearances because he doesn't feel like he's doing anything worthy of the screaming and attention, so I'm sure he's looking forward to being able to use his celebrity status to help others.
I've donated, just sick about this situation...I'm excited that we're going to get to see him, but more proud of him that he's going to be helping. All the more reason to <3 you, Rob! :)

You guys make sure to donate when Robert is on--they will look at the donations in terms of when they spike or not and if they get a sizeable spike when Robert's on, you donate to a good cause and let folks know Robert as the London presenter/host was a great idea.
Once it was announced that George wanted him involved, I never had a single moment of doubt that he would participate. Yes, he is shy about the limelight, but this is something very different. This isn't about him.
I said this the other day (on another buried thread), but this is the first time in his young life where his presence can actually have an impact on something that is beyond important.
And how blessed he is to be in such a position.
It's during these horrific and unimaginable tragedies that we are at our best. When these things happen, we don't care who is white or who is black or who is gay or who is straight or who is liberal or who is conservative. We just don't care. The lines that divide us disappear and all we want to do is save each other.

This is going to be great. Rob finally gets his wish to give back. He always wanted to do more and felt weird about his fame.This also will show the haters his A list status. They wanted him. He is huge enough to pull in an audience by himself and make people want to give back.But either way he probably would have helped.

I was thinking about his shyness, too, but if he has accepted I guess he feels up for it. It happens with shy people (I'm one of those) that, despite their nature, sometimes they find themselves taking the lead to do what they feel must be done... and they generally do better than they thought! :)

Athena--yes! Shy and even reclusive people sometimes will just step in when something needs to be done, and will do it right and well! The need to do good in the world, and the ability to actually lead, overcomes the need to retreat or blend into the walls-- it is like a snapping of something-just forge ahead and do it, and we don't even realize we have gone out of our comfort zone til we are done--perhaps because doing good in the world is another comfort zone.
Leann-- yes, U2!! I understand the guilt in enjoying seeing both Rob and U2--like a double treat-- when they are doing this to help those who are suffering and a place destroyed. That is one reason I gave already, and for different reasons.

It's funny, I guess I kind of forget how huge Rob is right now...the lead celeb story today has been Rob getting on board for this telethon. He seems to be the focus over the more established stars, which still kind of astonishes me. I am so glad to see him getting involved in something like this...of course, I never doubted that he would. His mama and daddy raised him with good values and a good head on his shoulders, clearly.
YESSSSSSSS - a spontaneous viewing of Rob out of character and into a good cause. I bet he's nervous and probably didn't want to do it.........but it's a good move for him and I'm glad he's doing it.

By "presenting" I'm picturing him just as talking about it for a short period of time and trying to convince people to give and that's it........but if he is the London liaison he may be manning the studio in London and they cut over there to him and the people there several times during the telethon, which would be cool to see how he does with such impromptu expectations. I'm already nervous for him. Hopefully he won't be alone there in London - Ricky Gervais, Emily Blunt....there are others that could be there to help him.

I'm sure it isn't just me, but that picture of Rob with just half of his face showing is stunning. has there ever been a more photogenic person? It is no wonder every major movie studio wants him. Just looking at him brings in big bucks. And, he can really act. That is probably a bonus.
