Rachel Weisz Joins Robert Pattinson & Viggo Mortensen In Cronenberg’s ‘Maps to the Stars’: Set For Spring 2013 Shoot

I can't wait to see Rob & David working together again and we don't have that long to wait either, MAY 2013!!

From TheFilmStage

Breathe another sigh of relief, for David Cronenberg is assembling his next film. As was reported just when Cosmopolis had a world premiere, Canada’s best-known cinematic artist is making another endeavor with that film’s star, Robert Pattinson, and his newest favorite collaborator, Viggo Mortensen, on a Hollywood satire called Maps to the Stars. Already good, right? Well, there’s even more too add.

French site Allocine report that Rachel Weisz is now the cast’s third member — who, however, it has not been said — while a production start is being eyed for next May. Described as “very acerbic and satirical” by Cronenberg himself, Maps to the Stars, from what we understand, is a Bruce Wagner-scripted film which revolves around actors and agents, with a specific focus on “two child actors ruined by Hollywood’s depravity.” This central content, no matter if what we’ve heard is even true, has made this a difficult-to-implement project — movement actually began in early 2006, for instance — but when you get (for lack of a better term) stars in line, it can fall together. Respected producer Saïd Ben Saïd doesn’t hurt, either.

They’re good stars, too. Cronenberg has already shown an ability to coax wonderful and unexpected performances from Maps‘ male stars, while, on the other side of the gender coin, I think Weisz has already secured her own image. It’s still a little while off until cameras begin rolling here, but the news should be coming in on and off for the next six months. Tune in, because I think this has a chance of being something special.

Saïd Ben Saïd will be producing.

  1. OMG! Ok, I know a lot of people don't like the whole 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' thing like I mentioned before with Sienna and Jude Law, but this has to be said. - Rachel W is just one more step closer to BOND! She's married to the current James Bond, and well, we all here think Rob would be amazing as Bond someday, right? LOL Yeah, I have way too much time on my hands today!
Wasn't Rachel slated to be in 'Unbound Captives' with Rob as well? This is great news, I love her!

  2. SQUEEEEE!!! Now .... I gotta figure out how to get back to NYC when this premieres! ;D

  4. that is awesome however the bad news is It will not be shown in my neck of the woods because the theater that I go too does not show Indie movies and it is SO diffcult too try and see any of his flims because of the majority of them are indie(The Twilight Saga excluded Water For Elephants excluded and Remember Me excluded) and it is SO frustrating I never got too see Cosmopolis or BA in the theater and he makes(for those of us that have theaters that do not show indies) it diffcult too support his flims and so again it is awesome but as for will I see it in theater no I won't because I can't.. I WISH but I can't sadly

    ReplyDelete
  5. I hope ya get too go :D as for me well I can't since it will be an indie movie any movie that he does is an indie a movie and it makes it very hard on me too try and see any of his flims in the theater because my theater does not show indie flims period I don't know why but they don't sadly

  6. YES! This cast sounds amazing so far.

I hope this one is shown in more theaters.

  7. SO EXCITED!!!!! Hope it's true!!

I like and respect only few actresses Rachel Weisz is one of them,I really love her in "The Constant Gardener."

Little sappy cause I got the feeling Rob's future co stars are now genuinely enthusiastic to act with him because of Cosmopolis. If before they might have some doubts in his talent as an actor, after Cosmo only hater will think that.
So obvious the talent is enormous.

I'm singing in my head,"The future so bright,I gotta wear Shades."

  8. I had already had that thought also !!!!! Great minds think alike ! I think her husband has 2-3 more contracted Bond movies , hmmmmmm.......

  9. EEEEKKKKKK Rob!!! Whoo hoo, I can't wait to see Rob and Cronenberg working together again. So many new movies, so little time. Rob you're such a giver :D It's taken 6 years to get the movie financed and now Rob's on board with Viggo, bam finance in place. Go Rob, you're on fire man!

  10. Congratulations, Rob !!!!! I couldn't be happier to hear he is back working with Cronenberg ! They make such a great artistic team !

  11. none around here do either leah. Cosmopolis finally came to Nashville and that was a 45 minute drive but Rob's worth the effort every time. Really would love to go back to NYC tho ... what better reason to go than to see Rob and David again?

  12. AWESOME!!!!!!! Fabulous news. So looking forward to seeing Rob back with David & now added bonus with Viggo too. Whoop Whoop!! Plus I really like Rachel. Oh My 2013 looks like being a fabulously busy year for Rob. So much to look forward for us too!!

  13. What a day! I just can't stop grinning, honestly. Cronenberg Mortensen, Weisz! I don't know how he's going to cram all his projects into his schedule (probably should consult Robsessed), but this is beyond great!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Never heard about that Saïd Ben Saïd guy. Is he as great a deal as the article makes out? On second thought, if he makes the film happen he's really great.

    ReplyDelete
  15. SQUEEE!!! My excitement has no measures!!!! sooo looking forward to this movie.....May....MAY!!!! i was sure it would take them a year or two to get into the production phase for this film..glad to know, i was wrong)))))

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey, all of you Robsessed ladies: grab your dancing shoes and put them on!! Now, let's party!!! "Celebrate, good times. Come on! It's a celebration!" Go, Rob!! Go Cronemberg!! \o/ \o/

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm so utterly fucked. I mean, Rob... 'nuff said. But, Viggo just holds such a place for me. I think he's an amazing actor and seeing him and Rob together... *whimper* But now they go an add Rachel Weisz??? She's been on my GIGGF list for years!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. NO f'ING WAY ROB!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go!!!!!! Incredible turn of events!!!! This man will never be 'home' over the next year or two....just how he likes it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. AAAAAH! First things first,I may have mentioned once how I love gifs(of Rob), so to see them on the blog gives me tingles every time!lol I mean, it's one thing to see the footage/video where it came from, but to see a moment captured in a gif over and over, whether it be funny or awe/aww-inducing--such as the one above--is just...priceless. Especially that Cannes moment...I'm just melting here. Thanks Kate!

I'm so happy for Rob for being able to do these things that he wants to do, way to expand his body of work. And with Cronenberg, Mortensen and Weisz to boot! Gee, their names truly made a difference for the financing eh? The power of Rob. Robenberg forevah! LOL
Yay to new Rob projects! Keep 'em coming Rob! \:D/

  20. Great. Another Rob project for 2013. So that makes 5 movies for next year: The Rover, Queen of the Desert, this, Hold on to Me, Mission: Blacklist...

Looking forward to all these projects. And it's good when a director like Cronenberg wants to work wit him a 2nd time.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I didn't get to see Cosmopolis in the cinema either but I did get to see Bel Ami so some times its pot luck but I'd rather he did what makes him happy even if I do have to wait to see his films :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. SBS productions is legit. Indie European films but probably not so well known in the States. Did "Carnage" last year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Okay Rob, here's your schedule for 2013 (thus far)...

January -- begin shooting The Rover in Australia
March -- principal photography begins on Queen of the Desert somewhere in the middle east?
April -- off to sunny Iraq for Mission Blacklist (moron)
May -- getting the band back together with David for Maps To The Stars

Now then...unless you pocketed a time turner from off the Potter set, just how is it that you're going to be involved in FOUR productions within the space of about 4 to 5 months? Unless that is you've cloned yourself and if so...the little bastard's been holding out on us girls. How dare you make more of yourself and not include your girlfriends here. That's just mean.
Anyhoo...there you go kiddo. Don't thank us. It's what were here for.
    P.S.
And for the love of god, would you puhleeze put some socks on? You've just walked into a winter storm back east and temps are suppose to be dropping to freezing.
    That is all.

  24. Hi Whence, I can't keep up with all these news and too much work :/
These news are really SOOO AWESOME!! Rachel Weisz = Two thumbs up :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just think of the premiere - Rob and Rachel and Rachel's husband, Daniel Craig !!! Two hot British men on one carpet (dives headfirst into the DR) - oh yeah! and Viggo as well, he will always be Aragorn for me :))

    ReplyDelete
  26. I`m so with you on this Jazz. I just love Viggo too.......happy days!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Seems to be a lot of...er...jumping up and down going on... ;-DD

    ReplyDelete
  28. Incredible - he is going to be non stop in 2013!

    ReplyDelete
  29. He's a superstar, other-worldly, a miracle - he'll manage it ! (Love to know how many air-miles he has collected) !!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well...
Supposedly Rover is a supporting role yet from what I understand, he's spending most of it with Guy Pearce in a car chasing another car. So unless Guy's role is supporting too, I'm thinking...this a rather large supporting role.
Queen of the Desert, yes a supporting role as this looks to be Naomi Watts' film. Mission Blacklist? Well, since he's playing the guy who the story is about, I'm guessing he's got more than a couple of lines here (unless they've got him playing Saddam and then he's just got to show up at the end when they pull him out that hole. Note to Rob --don't play Saddam...bad juju). Maps To The Stars? If he's playing one of the actors whose childhood was ravaged by fame, then I'd say he's got himself a part. Altho I think I heard somewhere that he is playing a supporting role of a chauffer...a chaueffer...a...a guy who drives a big ass car for big ass stars. Huh? But the thing is, making a film isn't about just walking onto a set and starting to talk. There's this thing called pre-production with costume fittings, hair, makeup, rehearsals. Stuff like that. And I know this kid is talented, but making four films over the stretch of a year is a...well, a stretch and to have that many scheduled to begin production within a month or so of each other? He's gonna have to be more than talented. He's gonna have to be a fucking wizard. Oh wait. He is. Never mind. No worries.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Daniel Craig, hot???? He is ugly and would make a perfect Putin.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Same here Olive, it´s all too much to take in! We have to take our time when the current hype is over to digest thoroughly..... I just looked up Rachel W. and I DO know her and like her, just didn´t remember her name with my supermemory and all...... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think that Mission Blacklist will be in the summer, after The Rover, QOTD, and Cronenberg. And then there is Hold on to Me too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Cameo or lead, no worries indeed, he floats lots of boats and we all get to win. Truly amazing journey for him!

    ReplyDelete
  35. My ONLY worry about this movie is that it's going to be like Woody Allen's 'Celebrity' with Leo DiCaprio. It was an artsy indie about a celebrity, and I absolutely hated it. This movie sounds better but a little similar and I hope thats not the case.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm afraid he has to let down one of his projects 'cause of scheduling conflicts but I want him to do all these movies *pouts*
Michôd, Herzog, Sauvaire, Cronenberg.. all such reputed directors!! He can't let one of them down, can he?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Leah, you'll have to wait and see, I guess. With big names like these three, there might be more fuzz about the project.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh, thanks! I didn't like Carnage as I thought I would, but it's still great news.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh WOW....this is the best news!! Can't wait for the film but also looking forward to the Rob and David interviews!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Do we know about April? This schedule really cannot work.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So Rob and Rachel are finally gonna work together, not like mother and son as in Unbound Captives but that doesn't matter. The director is great, the cast is great. *happy*
I knew something was in the air when Rob mentioned his next project with David a few days ago. I think he just got the news, he seemed to be really excited and like a little child he can't hide it, can he?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Could be, but last I read they're looking at April as a start date and last time I checked, April is in the spring. It's possible he could shoot Rover from early January to late February, then shoot his supporting role in QOTD throughout March and then start Blacklist in April (altho he'd probably have to be hooked up to IV fluids in between takes). But I do not see how it is even remotely possible that he could begin shooting the lead role in Blacklist in April and then be off to Maps the next month. Unless his role in Maps is a supporting one only requiring a few weeks and could be shot at the end of the shoot. I'm seriously not worried tho. They'll either wait for him to get to these sets or they'll replace him. That's the movie biz.

Oh. And I forgot about the Carey Mulligan flick. Jesus. Could he really film five films in one year? Who does he think he is, Michael Caine? Maybe he's thinking that after playing slackass for a year and a half, he's now got to get busy. True enough Rob, but there's busy and then there's...cuckoo busy. Yanno?

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's all good!! That'll be another trip to London for another film then lol Hope it's in a better cinema than the one I went to last time for Cosmopolis LOL Never mind....I would watch it in a shed if I had to :-) Was it luvthepretty that had the fifty sheds of grey a while ago? Maybe we could persuade her to show it?? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. The hair! There's going to be hair issues! Buzz-cut through tumbleweed tousles and back again. So long as there isn't a hideous black bob job like he had on Little Ashes, I'm sure it'll be fine. Mind you, the rate it grows, he is his own wig-maker.

    ReplyDelete
  45. He also did the new De Palma "Passion" with Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams. You may not like that any better...lol...but at least he's working with interesting actors.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah it was her and she was gone there for days when I remember correctly..... I´m sure she would be game :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I remember "discovering" Viggo when I saw an ad on tv for the dvd of "Lord of the Rings--Return of the King". (Long time ago). Viggo as Aragorn is just, seriously wonderful. I was all like, how did I miss this beautiful man and these movies when they were in the theaters?

Rob and Viggo in a movie together might just be the end of me!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi, Nik..maybe Rob was wearing ankle socks.:)..or maybe not lol!..nevertheless he needs to coz it's freezing lol!..he needs to look after those gorgeous feet of his,we can't have him suffering from frostbite:-D

    ReplyDelete
  49. I`d almost forgotten what a Renaissance man Viggo is too. I remember reading some of his poetry and looking at is art work and photography while he was filming LOTR. Does he not play the guitar as well? I`m sure he and Rob will put their combined creative talents to good use!

    ReplyDelete
  50. This is awesome news! So happy for him. I was hoping this project would come together - and so soon! Wow! :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. Interesting thought! Everything is possible when great creative minds come together!

    ReplyDelete
  52. lol!! Nik..you're too much!.."note to Rob..don't play Saddam"..I'm chuckling here reading your comments :)..love it!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. She had scarey Uncle Werner in there too do you remember? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  54. I know. Not to mention that during promo they're meeting tons of people, touching them (hugging, shaking hands) and were not only going into winter, were going into flu season too. And it seems that during these big promo tours, one or both of them ends up with a cold. I think one time Kristen got the ear gomboo. Cluck cluck. Yeah, I'm a mother hen.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Don´t remind me, it was a mad house...... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Like I said below, it's possible -depending on the size of these roles- that he can film the first three with these start dates. But no, I don't think he could get to Maps by May. But something tells me that David would not replace him. He'd wait for him.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Innit. Out of all the films slated for 2013, Map to the Stars is definitely the pick of the bunch for me. Just popped over to imdb to look up Bruce Wagner and this idea goes back to 1996 where he's quoted as saying, "Well, you know, Hollywood is so much a part of me. The thought of writing a straight satire about Hollywood - I would reach for my revolver, as they say." So this is black on black which will be stupendous now, given the collaborators. Woweeee. (I'm a genteel squealer, me). So completely up for this.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hmmm...the hair. Well, with Rover being a futuristic western, he could buzz it or leave it as it is. But for QOTD (a soldier of the early 21st century) and Blacklist (a modern day soldier), yeah, it would have to quite short again (and blonde for Lawrence...can't wait). And for Maps? From the sounds of it (modern day?) doesn't sound like there would be specific requirements for his hair. I dunno.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I did read that MBL had been put back because the director/ producers wanted to go back to Iraq to speak to some real Iraq prisoners, whether to use them in the film or just for background I I have no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I was/still am a huge fan of the book, and Viggo was just as I imagined Aragorn to be - an inspired bit of casting. I think they will have to supply oxygen masks in the theatres when this film hits the screens !

    ReplyDelete
  61. "Enemy at the Gates" and "360" .... Rachel starring together with Jude Law :)
    Small (movie)world isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've been trying to see that interview where David is patting Robert but I can't find it....what's the date of it?

    ReplyDelete
  63. that was perfect! I could not have said it better myself he IS INSANE too want to flim a movie in a war torn country *side too Rob* it is true you are SO insane!!! now that been said what a-that's-cutting-it-way-too-close-schedule you are so right about that my god hellooo Harry Potter you are not and ya don't have a time truner neckless so ya can't be in two places at once *o*

    ReplyDelete
  64. unless he has a time turner neckless(like Hermoine did in HP3) ya can't be at two places at once seriously LOL

    ReplyDelete
  65. Rob and Viggo....*.sigh* Ain't nuthin' better than that

    ReplyDelete
  66. WHY?! please tell me that they are NOT going too flim in Iraq?!!! tell me they have come their senses and that they will flim the movie(and still be able too make it look authentic)some where else care too weigh in there Rob on your thoughts on this INSANE idea of wanting too flim a movie in a war torn country hellooooo it aint glamorus!!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. that was so funny *do'nt play Saddam* LMAO!

    ReplyDelete
  68. unless I misunderstood he was saying in a live interview that it would take a few months or so too flim Rover and again unless he has a twin good luck with that Rob :P

    ReplyDelete
  69. you were lucky too see Cosmopolis in Nashville :) oh it would the PERFECT reason too see Rob and David :D

    ReplyDelete
  70. So HAPPY for Rob,this is what he wanted most, wonder about Mission Black when will that take place?

    ReplyDelete
  71. what a bummer that you could not see it in theater :( but I am glad you got too see BA and yeah that is true if indie flims make him happy then that's okay :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Was wondering hoe is he going to fitted all in ?

    ReplyDelete
  73. I loved the Constant Gardner that was good and also she was in the movie The Mummy I liked that movie it was good :D

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hope so, really.
PS I've written a long reply to you about the "apology", just the way I look at it, might be totally wrong, we'll never know :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Very EXCITING, Although I was also wondering about the schedule, guess we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The fact DC is excited to work with Rob again says wonders. People that work with DC once will do good, but People that work with Dc twice are Oscar Nominees if not Oscar Winners. This couldn't be better news!

    ReplyDelete
  77. IF Rob drops any role I hope it's Mission Blacklist where the director wants to go to Iraq. We would be worried for his safety.

    ReplyDelete
  78. i believe it was cannes press conference for cosmopolis

    ReplyDelete
  79. Congrats Rob , I wanted to see this happen so much and this finally came through,! Thank you Producers Ben Said !

    ReplyDelete
  80. Rob alrdy commit to these films, his team with the film company will do the schedule to enable him to do these movies

    ReplyDelete
  81. Bruce Wagner writer for Maps also wrote History of Violence with Davis Cronenberg. Ref Actors, Cronenberg only work with the best in the business and because these actors wants to work with him.

I so wish Rob signed a condition with Summit/Lionsgate that in order form him to star in the Twilight Sequel they support and distribute his non Twilight movies

    ReplyDelete
  82. Rob is going to be very busy in 2013. I'm so excited for him. I do hope someone is looking after his health.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Rachel Weisz!!!! Wow! That's pretty awesome! He has so much to do! I am so excited for him I just hope he doesn't run himself into the ground though!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Seriously is a good thing people can't see the happy-dance I've got goin' on right now...lol

    ReplyDelete
  85. I could really do with one of those myself !! I'd love to be doing all the things I want to do and my other me could be at work ! Great!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have a feeling that this film will be epic!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Ah, how interesting! Put it on my to watch list....:)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Leah, I'm pretty sure I heard Rob say that they were going to Iraq to film Mission B L.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I heard someone here in Australia when Rob was being interviewed that Rob would be here for 3 months when he starts shooting the Rover in January. But then who know how much things may change.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Have I died and gone to movie heaven? Mr. Cronenberg... Robert, Viggo and Rachel? YESSS!!!!! Seriously, probably wont leave to theater. Throw in Christopher Plummer and I will die happy that to see all my favorites actors in one movie.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I did too and I yelled at the tv are you insane?!

    ReplyDelete
  92. yeah I did too but ya might be right things could change

    ReplyDelete
  93. I understand but unless at least one of the 4 movies will be delayed until later next year I can't see him play in them during the first half of 2013. It's not that he plays only chameleon parts and trying to make schedules right has its limits. He'said in a recent interview that his team is breaking their heads over the schedules. I hope that Nik is right: that David is willing to wait shooting maps 'til Rob is ready.

    ReplyDelete
  94. We are really being spoilt with all these great projects Rob is bringing to us :) and he was worried about getting jobs.....we always believed in you Rob :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Had to muffle my excited scream because I´m not alone in the room.....
so (silent) *squeeeeeee*!!!! That is heavenly news! I´m overjoyed for both Rob and David because I think they are equally excited to continue what they started......;) And Viggo!!! I love him since he ran the woods of middle earth ;) and can imagine that he and Rob will get along just fine. Rachel Weisz sounds good too although I don´t know much about her. I think by now Rob must be the actor with the most and most intersting movies in line for 2013! I´m so happy for him!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I hope it isn't because the parts are itsy-bitzy, teenie-weenie, two lines per movie! :O

    ReplyDelete
  97. he is going to work with really good actors... just imagine what he is going to learn...all good things =D

    ReplyDelete
  98. rob and viggo...rob and viggo...rob and viggo and DG......................"be still my beating heart" :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oh dear ! Viggo and Rob in the same movie ? Add Gary Oldman and Kiefer Sutherland and I'm in heaven :o)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Another huge Viggo fan here! I know I have said this in the past, but Viggo is the only other actor, besides Rob, that I ever followed on a fan website before. Interestingly enough, the site was called "Obsession". I sense a theme lol

    ReplyDelete
  101. Didn't Rob say in his one-on-one with Horowitz that Mission Blacklist was moved back to mid- 2013? I think it's more like..

    January: The Rover

March: QOTD (smaller role... right? 2-3 weeks?)

    April/May: Maps to the Stars

    Summer/Fall: Mission Blacklist

And Hold on to Me probably doesn't have an exact schedule yet, or at least it will come later.

I'm sure Rob's "people" have his schedule nailed down fine. He wouldn't sign up otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Brosnan is my one and only Bond and then here comes Rob.

    ReplyDelete
  103. yeah I will have too wait and see I do hope it does open nation wide otherwise BD2 is IT as far as any movie of his flims opening nationwide and your right with the big names there could be that possiblity it may open nation wide or again otherwise BD2 is it for me

    ReplyDelete
  104. are you going too see The Hobbit it comes out right around christmas time

    ReplyDelete
  105. Yes - will definitely see that. Saw a trailer last week and the guy who plays Thorin Oakenshield looks like a bit of a hottie !

    ReplyDelete
  106. Aww, I'm just being an idiot. But you're so sweet.

    ReplyDelete
  107. david and rob promo again? yes please

    ReplyDelete
