Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce's The Rover grabs US distribution!

photo RobGuyTropfestIntro2.gif EXCITING NEWS!!! The Rover has a US distributor! Here's the announcement via The Hollywood Reporter and Jeff Snieder from The Wrap shared his 2 cents about the company. Sounding GREAT. :)
A24 has acquired U.S. rights to David Michod’s thriller The Rover, starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson
Set in a futuristic version of Australia following an economic collapse, the film follows Pearce, who plays a loner traveling the outback, who teams up with Pattinson to track a gang of thieves. Michod, who wrote and directed 2010’s Animal Kingdom, also wrote The Rover based on a story he and Joel Edgerton conceived.
It was produced by Michod, Liz Watts for Porchlight Film and David Linde under his Lava Bear Films banner. The film co-stars Scoot McNairy, David Field, Anthony Hayes, Gillian Jones and Susan Prior. Natsha Braier served as director of photography and Jo Ford, who also collaborated with Michod on Animal Kingdom, was production designer. A24 will release The Rover theatrically in the U.S., while Village Roadshow will release it in Australia and New Zealand. The film’s investment partners include Screen Australia, the South Australian Film Corporation and Screen NSW, and financial partners Fulcrum Media and the Union Bank.
"A24 is a perfect fit for The Rover -- a young, innovative and exciting company at the cutting edge of the independent sector in the US, they have contributed to an already exciting array of global distribution partners, and we are pleased to be partnering with them on the future release of the film," producers Watts and Linde said.
A24 is currently distributing Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring and will open James Ponsoldt's The Spectacular Now on Aug. 2. A24 negotiated the deal with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers and FilmNation Entertainment. UTA also reps Michod. Prior to selling the U.S. rights to A24, FilmNation Entertainment licensed the film to a majority of territories worldwide based on showing a two-minute reel of footage from the film.
UPDATE: Comment from A24 via IndieWire:
“David Michôd is a visionary filmmaker and we are thrilled to work with him to bring The Rover to US audiences. The movie will undoubtedly confirm his singular voice and distinctive gift for creating arresting visuals and indelible characters.”
If you guys want to know more about A24, click HERE to read an article from the LA Times: "Plucky start-up A24 chips at the wall between indie and multiplex." and "A24 wants to inject modestly budgeted films into the national conversation, providing the films, and their directors, a hard-won cultural exposure that defies the art-house ghetto."

3 new costars join Robert Pattinson in The Rover + info on the 7 week shoot

More The Rover news and we'll take anything we can get with this production.

UPDATE: Adding a bit from the film producers about the 7 week shoot set in the desert:
Excerpt from Mumbrella:
“The South Australian desert environment can be a tough one to work in, particularly for those coming from a Northern Hemisphere winter but both the cast and crew have thrown themselves into the shoot. We are shooting in some of the most haunting and stunning landscapes in the world, and are fortunate to have such an exceptional cast and a truly talented crew.”

And another quick note from Coming Soon:
FilmNation represents U.S. sales with UTA Independent Film Group. FilmNation also acquired the majority of worldwide sales rights to The Rover and the film has already been sold to leading distributors around the world - including Australia where distributor Roadshow Films’ Managing Director Joel Pearlman added “this is an incredibly exciting project which we are thrilled to be working on with Liz, David and the whole creative team.” Shooting completes in mid-March in South Australia, with postproduction taking place in Sydney.

PhotobucketFrom Deadline:

Robert Pattinson is in for a dusty South Australian shoot with Animal Kingdom director David Michôd, who began filming the slow burn thriller last Tuesday. Pattinson, who completed his Edward Cullen vampire duties last November with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II, stars alongside Guy Pearce in The Rover as Reynolds, a member of a gang of thieves who is left behind after a botched job. Pearce plays Eric, who enlists Reynolds to help track down his car when it’s stolen by the thugs. Australian actors Susan Prior (Animal Kingdom), Gillian Jones (Oscar And Lucinda), and David Field (Chopper) join Pattinson, Pearce, Scoot McNairy, and Anthony Hayes in the pic, written by Michôd from a story by Michôd and Zero Dark Thirty actor Joel Edgerton. Liz Watts is producing for Porchlight Films and David Linde for Lava Bear Films. FilmNation took most global rights and will rep the film on U.S. sales with UTA Independent Film Group.

Hold On To Me director, James Marsh, compliments Robert Pattinson: I loved his attitude towards cinema

Hold On To Me director, James Marsh, compliments Robert Pattinson: I loved his attitude towards cinema

Photobucket
This is the google translation but you can still make out the compliment clearly (bolded in blue). Love what James Marsh had to say about Rob and the film. Excerpt from Cinema Teaser (France):
PhotobucketSo if Marsh has turned this mini-series even without official title next summer, which is HOLD ON TO ME, her project with Robert Pattinson and Carey Mulligan?
"This advance," reassures Marsh. "I think turning in early 2013 if funding is secured."
Often compared to ALL READY TO Gus Van Sant because of its pitch (a beauty queen kidnapped and buried alive a man for money), Marsh tells us that he finds suitable comparison, although: "BOOGIE NIGHTS will also be a model in terms of tone. This is one of my favorite movies, because it goes to the dark humor in a second. HOLD ON TO ME is a dark comedy. Documentaries had my humor - at least I hope - as my fictions were heavier. There will be more exuberant. "
An album that could change Marsh's career, due to the presence in the cast of Robert Pattinson: "Robert is interesting: he knows where he wants to go and he wants to work on projects that help to make as COSMOPOLIS . He uses his fame and power to help people like me to make interesting films. It has a lot of potential. When we met, I loved his attitude towards cinema. He loved the script and told me so very intelligent. It will be a great asset to HOLD ON TO ME and I hope with him to suddenly casting this rameutera full of teenage girls in the rooms to corrupt! (Laughter.)
Finally, Marsh has revealed the actor he wanted to complete the cast: "I would hire an actor in the series GIRLS, Adam Driver. It is a great actor, yet little known. This will form a great triangle with Robert and Carey. "A great actor indeed already seen in J. EDGAR, and soon to be in Steven Spielberg's LINCOLN, Inside Llewyn Davis of Coen, THE F WORD with Daniel Radcliffe or FRANCES HA Noah Baumbach.
On a side note, Marsh won his Oscar for the documentary, Man On Wire. It's available on instant play for Netflix and I encourage you to check it out if you're a subscriber. It's an amazing film. Captivating from start to finish. Let me know if you've seen it in the comments. I'll probably want to rave about it. :)

Rumored script summary and details for Robert Pattinson's The Rover

Rumored script summary and details for Robert Pattinson's The Rover

Our reader in a recent blog post had the opportunity to read The Rover script and shared her thoughts. There are no serious spoilers with what she shared so the comments were fun to read. Her comments are in italics:

Photobucket
  • The main script summary: Imagine the old west - but instead of the past; its an downtrodden future where it seems hope is lost and everyone is clawing and clamoring to survive. A man (Eric) making his way through a seemingly lawless wasteland runs into trouble and gets sidetracked when his classic car is stolen. He has to deal with a number of odd characters while trying to get back on course. Rey, a somewhat troubled criminal, has his own journey to travel. Their paths intersect and a sort of friendship occurs. I won't say anymore. Don't want to cause any problems. Can't wait to see what Rob does with this character.
  • Characters in the film: Mostly men in it. Only 2 women's speaking roles (3 if you count the old woman speaking Chinese).
  • Rey really is a departure from the typical Rob role and I think an excellent choice to break away from his heartthrob movie stereotype. Guys are gonna love this film!
  • I'm really looking forward to seeing Rob stretch his wings. After reading The Rover, I can say I'll probably be hiding my eyes for most of the film but the guys will love it. Great storyline and Rey is... well, going to be a fun part for Rob to play.
  • What type of movie is it: Lot of gunplay. (Guys will love it.) I wouldn't say thriller. It's a good read. And I imagine it will be a great movie.
  • Lead roles: Guy Pierce, if he is playing Eric, is the lead. Rey/Reynolds, the part Rob plays has the second most amount of screen time and is crucial to the movie.
  • Character descriptions: I remember Eric is in jeans and a tee. I think Rey and the other 3 from his gang were dressed similarly (the four of them are supposed to be Americans). They are definitely dusty and dirty. (I absolutely DO remember that Rey's shirt comes off a time or two.) The number of accents in this movie is going to be tough. Especially for English Rob who will be doing a Southern (U.S.) accent while speaking to an Aussie, surrounded by Cambodian and Mandarin Chinese. Testing his skills, indeed.
  • Answering the question if the future is sci-fi or more realistic: The depth of despair I felt while reading it came from realizing that this could very well be next week or next year. How easily life could be reset back to this kind of existence.
The movie continues to intrigue and mystify me. Probably because it's the one I know the least about. It's always like that, right? You're more curious about the unknown - the uncharted territory. I can't wait to see it. :)

Robert Pattinson talks about The Rover being one of the best scripts he's read and his parents reaction to filming in Iraq

Robert Pattinson talks about The Rover being one of the best scripts he's read and his parents reaction to filming in Iraq

I know some of you can't see the video but the article from MTV quoted the best parts of what Rob said:
"It's a really tough script," he told MTV News while promoting "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2." "I don't really know, I don't even know how to talk about it yet. It's one of the best I've read. It's one of my top five favorite scripts I've read since I started doing this. It's really nerve-racking."
Nerve-racking as "The Rover" is, it pales in comparison to the real-life dangers presented by "Mission: Blacklist," Pattinson's upcoming war movie based on the true story of Army interrogator Eric Maddox, who was involved in the capture of Saddam Hussein. The role requires Pattinson to film in Iraq, which understandably made his family members uncomfortable at first — but the actor thinks his loved ones are beginning to warm up to the idea.
"My parents seem to be coming around to it now," he said with a laugh. "That's strange. I don't know what happened."

Scoot McNairy cast alongside Robert Pattinson in The Rover

Scoot McNairy cast alongside Robert Pattinson in The Rover

Excerpt from The Film Stage:
Photobucket I’ve enjoyed the work of actor Scoot McNairy since 2007′s indie drama In Search of a Midnight Kiss and certainly 2010′s low-budget sci-fi feature Monsters, but it’s safe to say this fall marks his break-out in Hollywood.

The actor is one of the best elements of Ben Affleck‘s Argo ensemble and delivers one of my favorite performances in Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly. It looks like the industry has taken notice, as he’s joined the cast of two highly-anticipated features.

Buried in a Deadline article revealing that he’s linked up with WME, McNairy has joined David Michod‘s Animal Kingdom follow-up The Rover, with Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce. Described as an “existential” western, the film is set in the near-future and follows a man who treks across the Australian outback in an attempt to recover his stolen car from a gang of punks — one of whom is portrayed by Pattinson (and perhaps another could be McNairy).

Scoot definitely sounds like he's on good track and is being noticed by critics. Another positive addition to The Rover cast. :)

More information on Robert Pattinson's newest project, Hold On To Me

More information on Robert Pattinson's newest project, Hold On To Me

Hold On To Me made Variety's list of films that has AFM (American Film Market) buzzing and Film Nation released more information about the film.

Photobucket From FilmNation:
FilmNation will handle international sales and distribution on Academy Award® winning director James Marsh’s (Man on Wire) Hold On To Me starring Academy Award® Nominee Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby, An Education) and Robert Pattinson (Twilight, Cosmopolis). Hold On To Me is written by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace) and is an electrifying thriller based on the extraordinary true story of a femme fatale who kidnaps and ransoms the town’s richest man. The film will be produced by Alexandra Milchan alongside Todd Field and Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales and Mark Roybal.
Mulligan plays Nancy, a small town girl who callously leaves her boyfriend Jimmy (Pattinson) behind to chase a modelling career in New York City, breaking his heart in the process. To Nancy’s surprise, New York isn’t impressed by her and at 26, she’s back home waiting tables at the local diner. When she gets word that Jimmy has become a wealthy and successful criminal in Chicago, she tracks him down with a view to winning his affections, only to find crushing rejection. Fuelled by jealousy and an unquenchable thirst for fortune, Nancy finds Danny, a naïve pawn she can seduce and manipulate to her own ends and together they embark on a life of crime. Success comes fast, and leaves faster but nothing and no one will stand in the way of Nancy’s naked, dangerous and deadly ambition.
The producers commented, "Glen Basner and his team are simply the best in the business. We are elated to be partnering with FilmNation in bringing to life this stranger than fiction, true crime story."
Sales will commence at the upcoming American Film Market.
FilmNation’s Glen Basner said, “Hold On To Me is a compelling and sexy modern day Bonnie and Clyde story that we’re excited to introduce to buyers at AFM. Carey Mulligan is certain to deliver one of the most memorable femme fatale performances in cinematic history.”
This is clearly Carey's vehicle but how great does it sound?? I'm so excited for Rob to be a part of it. Hell, I'm excited for Rob to be a part of all his upcoming films. He's working with great artists and the stories are so compelling. We have much to look forward to, DR. :)
