Robert Pattinson and Cosmopolis mentions in Collider and FilmINK
From Collider/Top 5 weekly post:
#3. New Poster and NSFW International Teaser Trailer for David Cronenberg’s COSMOPOLIS
As unfair as it is, I’m just as guilty as the next guy or gal of writing off Robert Pattinson in any role because he’s, well, Edward Cullen. In this NSFW international teaser trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis adapation, though, Pattinson is far from a sparkly vampire with self-control issues. In fact, he kind of seems like a badass. Say what you will, but I think that a little Cronenberg gore and violence is exactly what the doctor ordered to help begin laying Cullen to rest.I will always love and support Rob's creative choices but it saddens me that his role as Edward gets bashed so much. I'll always love his Edward and Twilight. But whatcha gonna do. Our fandom isn't for everyone and my Edward love is welcomed in the DR. ;)
David Cronenberg was interviewed by FilmInk and Rob & Cosmopolis were briefly mentioned. I transcribed the excerpt because it's difficult to read the scans:
Fortunately, despite the fear that is currently paralyzing the film business, Cronenberg already has his next film in the can. Cosmopolis is an adaptation of Don DeLillo's novel about 24 hours in the life of a Manhattan multimillionaire. "I wrote the script in six days because the book is so cinematic - the dialogue is incredible," Cronenberg says. "That was unusual for me - to write a script that quickly. But then it was waiting to go." The project was brought by him by veteran Portuguese producer, Paolo Branco. "He flew to Toronto," Cronenberg says, "He came with his son and said, 'My son says that you are the right director for this project.'"I really couldn't be more excited for this film. There aren't enough words to express my excitement for Rob as Eric Packer.
The only issue was that Cronenberg was lined up to shoot A Dangerous Method. "But Paolo said, 'I will wait for you.'" And he did, securing the services of one Robert Pattinson in the meantime to play the leading role of Eric Packer, an asset manager who endures a surreal odyssey across New York when he sets out in his hi-tech limo to get his hair cut and finds the car stuck in a monumental traffic jam. "About 70% of it takes place in the back of a limo," confirms Cronenberg who still had to deal with legions of R-Patz fans during the shoot. "It sometimes was a little difficult. But Toronto is relatively repressed, i.e civilized."

Robert Pattinson's co-star, Jay Baruchel, says Cosmopolis won't be seen by Team Edward girls
UPDATE: Youtube :)
Right...it'll be seen by the Team Edward women. I'm Team Rob so that means I'm Team Edward & Team Eric. ;)
Here's the write up on MTV for those that can't see the video:
David Cronenberg's next film, "Cosmopolis," may have won MTV's Movie Brawl thanks to the support of die-hard Robert Pattinson fans, but one of his co-stars told MTV News the film will be far from what Twilighters are expecting.
While promoting "Goon," a film he stars in and co-wrote, Jay Baruchel shared his experiences working for a short period of time on the Manhattan set of "Cosmopolis." Unfortunately for the Pattinson fans out there, according to Baruchel, Cronenberg's next movie might be too strange for them.
"An exceedingly strange movie," Baruchel said, describing "Cosmopolis." "All the Team Edward girls won't be seeing this one, I don't think."
For Baruchel, working with Cronenberg — who made a name for himself with horror films — was a dream come true. "Basically, it was that Cronenberg is a hero of mine. I'm a Canadian boy. I love horror. That's all I want to do," Baruchel said. "If you're a Canadian horror fan, Cronenberg's the Holy Grail."
The opportunity for Baruchel came about in a rather mundane way, but his reaction to it was anything but. "I was in Manhattan last year, keeping my lady company, and they called up and were like, 'Hey, do you want to do two days on this new Cronenberg?' I said, 'Yep!' 'Wait, wait. We'll send you the script.' I couldn't care less; what I'm playing is a means to an end. I just want to go and film-nerd-out about 'Videodrome' with him for two days."
The actual experience of working with Cronenberg did not disappoint. "Not only did I get to go and be a fly on the wall for two days and watch one of my heroes do his thing, I actually had the pleasure being directed by him," Baruchel said. "Coolest thing ever."

The festival runs from May 16-27.
CANNESROB RETURNS!!!!
Keep hope alive ;)
This poster is coming out of the Berlin Film Festival. Variety reported on TeleCanada promoting Cosmopolis at the fest:
Telefilm Canada boosts titles at EFM
Canadian producers are riding a surge of industry buzz and critical kudos at the European Film Market with hopes that a slate of pics from seasoned Canuck helmers and newcomers will keep the momentum going in 2012.
At the forefront is Telefilm Canada, which brings its sixth edition of Perspective Canada to the mart. The federally operated film funder will showcase a selection of features for the market, including David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” and Sarah Polley’s “Take This Waltz.”
“We’re in a very positive wave of cinema right now with the successes we’ve had internationally,” said Sheila de la Varende, director of industry promotion at Telefilm. “That creates recognition and anticipation in the marketplace for Canadian films.”
And Telefilm Canada is also at work with the distribution. Excerpted from a press release:
Perspective Canada returns to Berlin International Film Festival to support sales of 19 Canadian films at European Film Market
...
Coming soon
Sales for films still in production are also encouraging. To date, Deepa Mehta’s Midnight’s Children is presold in over 40 countries and counting, and David Cronenberg’s eagerly awaited Cosmopolis is presold in over 25 countries, including Italy and Portugal, and will travel the world.

David Cronenberg mentions Robert Pattinson & Cosmopolis casting & financing to Variety
Interview with David Cronenberg excerpted from Variety:
Although David Cronenberg has built a career on films that explore the dark crevasses of the mind, he says he likes to have "good, productive fun" when he's working. "I have a very light set, and I don't screw with people's heads," he says. During a break from the set of his upcoming "Cosmopolis," Cronenberg stopped by Variety's offices to talk with Christy Grosz about the challenges of financing and why he'll probably never make a big-budget studio film.
...
You've worked with a lot of high-profile British actors like Jeremy Irons and Miranda Richardson. Is there a different sensibility that British actors bring that works well for you?I like reading about casting and financing films. It's like David is taking us through Filmmaking 101 with Rob & Cosmopolis. :)
Part of casting that people rarely understand or need to understand but is a huge part of making independent films is what passport the actor has. If you're doing a co-production you're not doing a co-production with America because U.S. doesn't have any co-production treaties. It means that you cannot use American actors or, if you do, you are very limited. "A Dangerous Method," technically, does not have any American actors. Viggo has a Danish passport. ("Cosmopolis star") Rob Pattinson is a U.K. citizen. When you have Paul Giamatti in "Cosmopolis," he's the only American actor, even though it's an American story that takes place in New York. So these are things that you have to consider. Inevitably, for me, if you're doing an English-speaking role, you look at U.K. actors. It's true, of course, that they have a wonderful tradition of great acting, and they are actors who do stage and television and movies, which in the old days was unique to the U.K. In America, there was a real stigma attached to you if you were a TV actor. Guys like George Clooney struggled, I think, to finally get out of there, and whereas in the U.K. there was no stigma attached to doing a TV show. So very experienced actors who really understood the difference between theater acting and stage acting, movie acting weren't, quote, theatrical when they did movies. They knew how to do that, whereas when you're working with actors from other countries, they didn't know how to do that. Even some Canadian actors were very theater-oriented, and they couldn't do that sort of naturalistic American style of acting. So U.K. actors were very attractive, and the quality of the work was great, and so on. That's a lot of the reason. Often it was a Canada-U.K. co-production. Or if it's a Canada-France co-production, English actors can work because it's the European Union and that's the deal, so it doesn't have to be a French actor per se, it could be a U.K. actor. So that's one of the reasons that I work with a lot of English actors.
Financing is never easy for independent films. Do you find that getting someone like Mortensen attached early on helps drum up interest?
You have to find a cast that matches the tone of the movie and the budget level that you're going for. Everybody knows about studio movies where they say, well, we'll do this $200 million movie if you get Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. It's at a different level, but it's still the same dynamic when you're doing an independent film. It's like, "Well, we'll buy the rights to France if you get someone like Rob Pattinson or Paul Giamatti or whatever." You can't really have your leads be unknown even in an independent film. You can sort of introduce unknowns. Sarah Gadon, for example, who plays Emma Jung (in "A Dangerous Method"). She's Canadian. She's my discovery. She has a nice big role with Rob in "Cosmopolis." So by the time we're doing "Cosmopolis," she's a real asset. Her star is rising. She's getting attention, and that's lovely to see. And eventually you'll be able to finance.
I would think somebody like Rob Pattinson could help, too.
The thing is, by himself, it's not enough. We have Juliette Binoche. We have Mathieu Amalric. We needed the French element to sell France. Paul Giamatti (was) very important to make the film attractive everywhere but also in North America. So one actor, even a great actor or famous actor is often not enough on his own still. That's the way it goes. That's the name of the game. So for me the balancing act is to juggle all of those things: the passports, the money, the fame and still get the right actors in the roles. It's an entertainment trick.

David Cronenberg talks about Cosmopolis and Robert Pattinson
This interview was similar to the recent compliments in the NY mag article. David Cronenberg sat down with Moviefone and conversation moved to Cosmopolis and the casting of Rob:
Would you ever agree to calling Viggo one of your muses? These interviewers are so dumbfounded. Like in the NY mag interview? *eye roll* I love that it's David Cronenberg who's schooling them.
No, though it is a sweet thought. I like Viggo. In fact, I love Viggo and we get along great. But I just shot 'Cosmopolis' and Viggo's not in it! [Laughs] I would hate to think I abandoned my muse to make that movie. No, but seriously, we love to collaborate and we love to be colleagues making a movie, there's no question about that. But you do an actor a great disservice by miscasting.
Your casting of Robert Pattinson in 'Cosmopolis,' someone whose acting might not be as critically lauded as Mortensen's, was obviously a well-thought-out decision, then.
Well, Keira's acting doesn't always get praise from high-brow critics, either. I would use that parallel. You have a young actor who's found success with a franchise just like Keira did with 'Pirates of the Caribbean,' who's underrated because of that. In each case, they're too pretty and too successful so people are jealous. As a result, people assume that they can't possibly be good actors.
So what was the exact motivation for casting Pattinson in 'Cosmopolis'?
He's the right age, he's got the right screen presence, and when I looked at his other work I thought he'd be really interesting for the role. Casting is a black art – it's a bit mysterious how you come to these things – and it's subjective, too, of course. As a director, there are no rules to guide you. You have to go with your gut, ultimately.

NEW FOOTAGE + RELEASE DATE: Robert Pattinson as Eric Packer in Cosmopolis
It was also revealed that the anticipated release date for Cosmopolis is 12/12/12. Not sure if this will be a worldwide release date.
From Hard Musica (excerpted google translation):
This talk was also attended by rapper K'naan and four individuals who participated in this film in many ways. Paul Giamatti and Sarah Gadon, actors, and close Suschinsky, director of photography, reported the experience of working with David Cronenberg and wove her praises.
In a conversation where the uninhibited sense of humor was always present, Paul Giamatti highlighted the "pleasant feeling of freedom" that the director gives the actors to innovate in the characterization of his characters, a freedom which in the words of Sarah Gadon becomes "scary" .
Asked by the audience about his tendency to the production of films that involve and relate the themes of body, mind and technology, Cronenberg said that every film has "a singular existence," he doesn't make a new film thinking about the ones he did before.
Paul White also participated in the conversation as a producer of David Cronenberg's new film "Cosmopolis." The festival director was free to display a small promotional video with just over two minutes of film that is scheduled for opening Dec. 12, 2012.

Cosmopolis PA mentions Robert Pattinson and his performance in Cosmopolis
(From June 20th)
Tyler, a PA on Cosmopolis, recently tweeted the CosmopolisFilm twitter and I spoke to him briefly. He tweeted back in June when he was on set and was skeptical of what Rob would do with the character of Eric Packer and working with David Cronenberg.
From June 20th:
Then Tyler started up a conversation yesterday after a CosmopolisFilm post.
From Oct. 4th:
I know we *waves around the dark recesses* aren't involved in how talented Rob is but this kind of thing makes you proud, doesn't it?
Truly can't wait for this performance.

Although most of Robert Pattinson's fans are totally focused on November 18 — a.k.a. the release date for "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" — the heartthrob has another equally buzzworthy film headed into theaters in 2012: the dark, postmodern drama "Cosmopolis."UPDATE: Youtube after the cut!
The film, adapted by screenwriter and director David Cronenberg from Don DeLillo's novel, revolves around a day in the life of hotheaded asset manager Eric Packer (Pattinson) with most of the plot's action taking place in a limo.
MTV News caught up with "Cosmopolis" co-star Kevin Durand at the premiere of "Real Steel" over the weekend, and he had nothing but rave reviews for both the film and its leading man.
"It's awesome. We're just in postproduction right now. It's incredibly exciting," Durand said. "Robert is a very gracious, kind fella, and we had a great time [filming]. We had a really great time."
When asked what new sides of Pattinson's acting abilities we'll see in the film, Durand said we'll see an edgier, more adult version of the "Twilight" star. "He's got an edge to him in this film," Durand said. "He did some really excellent work that I think he should be very proud of."
The "Real Steel" and "I Am Number Four" actor went on to say that given the subject matter and action in the plot, the film will have a more adult rating and that fans should be very excited to see it.
"[It takes place] in present day, but it's its own time and place," he explained. "Mr. Cronenberg has such an amazing voice. I myself am just as excited, probably more excited, than anyone else to see it, just to see what he's done with it."
Sarah Gadon mentions Robert Pattinson's character + Cosmopolis wallpapers
Sarah was interviewed by MTV and talked briefly about her and Rob's characters in Cosmopolis:
Can. not. wait.MTV: Can you give me a sense of Elise [in "Cosmopolis"] and how she interacts with Rob's character?
Gadon: I think it's a really interesting film, and I don't want to give away too much, but I think in a really kind of pared-down version of the film, it's about a young millionaire who loses everything in the course of a day. And I play his new wife, so I'm one of the only characters that really kind of comes in and out of the story throughout the film. We have breakfast, lunch and dinner together, and those are going to be some interesting meals.
