I'm going to sound so ignorant now but isn't Rob right ? Isn't Thanks Giving about giving thanks for feeding the English pilgrims no ? God, I need to read more on American History !!

  5. I couldn't resist watching the video again... "I'm such a sex symbol, right?" *sigh* If only you knew!

The screams/woo's at the beginning made me laugh. I wonder if he wishes that that is the type of reaction he got nowadays, rather than the "I-need-earplugs or to leave, now" screams from this year?

  8. @ MatildalovesRob - Hahah, well, it's basically what it is. The new settlers of america got help from the natives to grow corn or something like that, because there was a little bit of famine, and people started dying. And then, when the corn was edable, they all celebrated together, thanking god for not killing them all with a hungerfamine.

Norway doesn't celebrate it eighter, and i'm sorry for the way cold explanation of your holiday - its just an easy way to tell the story! Happy thanksgiving to you all!

  9. The holiday is basically to give thanks to the harvest and the bounty it brings. And to commemorate the Pilgrims (Britsh settlers in America) and Native Americans coming together for a feast to celebrate the settlers' survival here with the help of the natives.

    You can google it...

  14. My understanding of the Thanksgiving Holiday is as follows: everybody on the west coast travels to the east coast. Everybody on the east coast travels to the west coast. Sunday afternoon a snow storm hits stranding all in airports, stations, greyhound terminals and roadsides, across the country. Everybody vows not to travel next year. Next year…

Happy Thanksgiving, again, and enjoy your family feasts.

  17. Thanksgiving is the day we spend 12 hours cooking & 10 minutes eating!! But that's 10 minutes over & over & over again...Then we have to diet for 3 months...

  18. Evidently Rob is spending Thanksgiving in LA with Kristen. She said somewhere she is making pies! Which is what I've been doing for 3 hours.

  19. The pilgrims/puritans were not equipped to live in this part of the world, and most died off the first year. The native Americans there, including one (Squanto) who learned English having been kidnapped and enslaved by British who came to America before the Pilgirms did, helped the pilgrims survive, showing them how to grow corn, where to fish and hunt, etc. After they had finally had a good harvest, they celebrated with thanks to G-d, and to the natives who helped them and befriended them. The celebration actually lasted a few days. And the pilgrim children were introduced to popcorn!
Although our family background is Irish and beyond, ancient heritages in modern times, we do keep and enjoy Thanksgiving when in America. Giving thanks, being appreciative, is always good any day. Thanks all for making this a wonderful site.

  20. @Solas: Well, I don't have to travel this year so I can afford to be smug! :)

Wasn't shellfish also on the menu for the first feast? I think the lobsters must have run a good campaign...

    Thankful for everything. Enjoy.

  21. A--yes indeed, but those who kept and keep the diet restrictions in the Bible would not partake of the shellfish. :-D
