I was emailing back and forth w a friend today trying to get some music recommendations and she asked where I find "new" music to listen to. I told her that Rob is my Oprah and I get music, book and film recommendations from him. She laughed and said she's glad I like him for something more than his looks. Oh, if she only knew why we all love him so much. He is so much more than the some of his parts. I could never be this obsessed w someone just for looks (though he is mighty fine), which is why I have never reacted to another actor/celeb like this before.

Not surprised he picked the more obscure Paths Of Glory say over the more well known Kubrick films, Dr. Strangelove or 2001. But be prepared, it's a heartbreaking story. As for why he isn't fronting for Gucci...I guess because he's not ready to be a pitchman yet. He may never and he may sign on the dotted line tomorrow. I've always had my nose in the air about this kind of thing (artists schilling for products) but then George Clooney put me in my snooty place. He openly admitted that he sells coffee (in foreign markets, not here in America) and he does it for a shit load of money and that the coffee basically supports his lifestyle so that he can make smaller films that are struggling to get financed and can even forgo a salary if there isn't enough in the budget. In other words, selling coffee allows him to work for free in films he wants to get made and a studio won't finance. And I sat there ashamed of myself for judging. I guess my problem is with the J Lo's of the world who've turn themselves into "brands" and sell their own line of shit and pocket every nickle for no other purpose than to line their own pockets. They're certainly not doing it for the sake of their art. For Rob to sign on to Gucci, it would the same as what Kristen is doing with Balenciaga. Like her, he would be the corporate face of a company as was Cary Grant for Fabrage and Audrey Hepburn for Givinchy. The drawback? Besides feeling like a sellout (not if you do it in order to go on making quality films Rob...no shame in that. I haven't seen the ad but from what I've heard, they were going for something of a bit more artistic bent, a bit more avante guard. What some would make fun of for being artsy fartsy. Altho maybe it's just a lousy ad and deserves the ribbing. But I wouldn't use SNL and Leno as a yardstick for judging something of an artistic nature. Their job is to mock the culture around them and yes, a lot of it is deserving. But then Leno also exploited the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman for laughs and ratings. It was shameful.
And now that I checked, and Conan. So yes Nik, in this case It's the ad, it's too over the top avant garde artsy fartsy for the general public. Maybe it would be better received in the European market.

I decided to watch it just now, and found out that there are two versions. The part 1(which is the one being parodied) is where he's basically standing in one corner and doing a monologue of some sort with the camera and lighting doing the works. The part two is like the part 1, only there are other artsy fartsy shots interpersed with his monologue and he kind of becomes a voiceover. Something to be expected of a perfume ad, I guess. I find it okay. Maybe a little symbolic with the two ladies who appeared in shots, but it's just fine.
The Part 1 thing is the real culprit here, for as I mentioned, he's just standing while delivering his 'dialogue', or dare I say, 'musings', hence,making it easy to imitate and turn into parody. However, this widespread attention brought free publicity for the ad, so I still think everybody's happy. :) They just leaned on too much on BP's fame/appeal or whatever, and though I can see it, this would probably have a different effect if it was done by Rob. Or maybe I'm just a tad biased here(and a bit too wishful). ;)
Nik, I replied to Captain below regarding the nature of the ad and its two versions/parts. "maybe it's just a lousy ad and deserves the ribbing"-- this is my reaction upon watching the Part 1. :)) Of course I acknowledge the efforts of everyone involved in the project though. So to be somewhat enlightened, I watched other Chanel No 5 ads and even saw one dated back 1973 wherein the lady (Catherine Deneuve) is just in one position, talking to the camera throughout the 31 second ad, so I guess it's nothing new. Well, it's really not new in the field of advertising anyway. :)
So yeah, what I'm trying to say is that just grab someone, let them dress and talk like BP then position them in the corner with the same background, easy-peasy parody in the making. All because of Part 1's simple set-up. Gotta give props for their bravery though. :)

There is nothing creative about a guy reciting pretentious lines. Compare with the great Keira Knightley commercial for Coco Mademoiselle. I know it's more classical but it's also much better.
I can add that we can see the Florabotanica poster in the streets of Paris, some have the poster with Kristen, others don't.
The personal taste is as various as human mankind is..... My point is that from the professional pov advertisement wants to get attention. I´m sure they did not plan to be the object of jokes but I don´t think they mind the additional attention they get. There is nothing negative about the ad that would transfer on the image of Chanel in a bad way in my opinion. Concerning your other comment about the Florabotanica poster, I would be much more concerned that the image transfer would have a rather negative influence...That´s why they probably go both ways..... But you never know exactly with ad campaigns....., maybe the "bad girl" image is even attracting....
In the end unfortunately it is all about the money and not (only) about the good taste of an ad - that´s the way our economy works....

Have you got the arctic conditions that are expected to hit the storm then? It is really freaky all the conditions waiting to combine!! They were showing the water at battery park and the tide was out but the water level was still high. The high tide will also be a 'spring tide' just to exacerbate things. It feels like a horror movie being played out in real life!

Yep we have an arctic storm front with its butt parked right on Southern Ontario and most of Quebec waiting for Sandy to arrive. We are expecting winds of 60-70 km/hr gusting to 100 km/hr and torrential rains starting this evening...so within the next 5-6 hours. But nothing like the coasts are getting there will be power outages and trees down and schools will most likely be closed tomorrow if it continues through the night. Glad I'm not working until Wednesday.
They've just said on tv (listening to a man from the hurricane ctr) 2 feet of snow when it hits that cold front. Peak storm surge 3 - 4 metres!!! between New York and New Jersey!! It will sit over land for 2 - 3 days!!! Its just horrendous. Have to go check a map to find out where some of the places they're talking about are.

After the holidays (I may have said this before) in the summer when I went back to work my brain was in slow motion...I was actually quite worried. My job means that I jump from one subject to another with numerous interruptions throughout. The way my brain works is on full overload - my daughter constantly tells me that I overthink things which is probably true - which is probably why I don't sleep LOL Anyway after the holidays it took me a few days to get it moving again...I couldn't do my usual flitting at speed....as I said WORRIED LOL

Well this is a unique situation when my youngest was injured all his brothers moved home to help.I wasn't old enough to take early retirement and couldn't afford to quit outright so long story short they are still all here. The voice guy is 32 years old.
