For the second month in a row, I’m giving my very prestigious Film Of The Month award to one I’ve not yet seen, but am greatly anticipating. The directorial debut of actor Brady Corbet, “The Childhood Of A Leader,” won awards while also garnering plenty of criticisms when it premiered at Venice last year. The trailers and overall marketing have been stellar, and I can’t think of a more perfect film to highlight, so be sure to keep an eye out.

As you know, for 2016, we're anticipating The Lost City of Z, The Childhood of a Leader, High Life, Good Time, The Trap and Queen of the Desert. Excellent stuff. Who's that actor in all those movies again? ROBERT PATTINSON. We can't wait. :)

The Playlist and Ioncinema are also anticipating some Rob films so maybe they can sit with us.

The Playlist completed their top 100 and 2 of Rob's films make the top 20. Quite the ranking. In the top 10 at #9, we have The Lost City of Z!

His newest, “The Lost City of Z,” looks to be his biggest, most ambitious and perhaps strangest film yet. And at #13, The Playlist is all about Rob's film with Claire Denis:

13. “High Life”
Director: Claire Denis (“Trouble Every Day,” “White Material”)
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Patricia Arquette, Mia Goth
Synopsis: A group of criminals agree to go on a suicide mission into space in the hope of finding alternate energy sources, and to take part in experiments in human reproduction.
What You Need To Know: If we could have guessed what arthouse queen Claire Denis would do next after the brutal “Bastards” from a few years ago, we wouldn’t have said ‘sci-fi starring R-Patz.’ And yet here we are, with Denis gearing up to shoot her first English-language movie, one excitingly penned by the great Zadie Smith and her partner, poet Nick Laird, with the ever-adventurous Pattinson and recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette starring. Though the subject matter is unusual for Denis, she’s never been afraid to play with genre, and it thematically should be up her street. In fact, the only reason this isn’t higher is that, depending on the amount of effects involved, it’s not entirely certain whether it’ll be ready for this year.
Release Date: Shooting begins shortly, and given that, “Bastards” aside, all of Denis’ recent movies premiered at Venice, that would be the best bet if it’s done in time.

They also gave a final and special shoutout to The Trap. It didn't get ranked because all is quiet on the waterfront for the film.

Special Mention: We’re Not Sure If This Is Still Happening in 2016, But It’s Highly Anticipated If It Is

“The Trap”
Director: Harmony Korine (“Trash Humpers,” “Spring Breakers”)
Cast: Idris Elba, Benicio Del Toro, Robert Pattinson, Al Pacino, James FrancoSynopsis: A gangster rapper is targeted by an ex-con recently released from prison.
What You Need To Know: As far as candidates for mainstream crossover status go, we’d have had indie world enfant terrible Harmony Korine fairly low on the list, and yet “Spring Breakers” proved to be a substantial hit in 2013, proving the eternal appeal of James Franco, as well as young women partying in swimsuits. It’s taken a little time for Korine to follow it up, but “The Trap” could end up making even more of a splash —if it’s still happening, as word’s been very quiet since the summer. A crime thriller, the director called it “sensory bombardment… a super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie,” which sounds alright by us. He’s got a great cast lined up (assuming everyone’s still involved: schedules change, and if it is keeping to the original plan, it would clash with Benicio Del Toro’s “Star Wars” shoot), and we can’t wait to see what kind of bonkers fever dream he cooks up this time. If we were 100% sure that this was definitely going to be released this year, it’d undoubtedly be in our top five.Release Date: The film was supposed to get before cameras this month. Assuming that holds, it could be ready for a Venice premiere, as “Spring Breakers” did.

IonCinema had their eyes on one thing and one thing only - The Lost City of Z. #3 out of 25 Most Anticipated Studio Films:

Next, we have another long gestating project, The Lost City of Z from the consistently underrated James Gray. He’s now finally in post-production on the Paramount production which stars Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson in a film inspired by British explorer Perceval Fawcett’s ill-fated attempt to discovering the fabled kingdom of El Dorado. Gray adapts himself from a book by David Gunn, and considering his acclaim in France (his last four films have all competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes), this may be the rare studio feature that makes the cut in 2016. (Paramount Pictures – Release: TBD) 

We can't wait for those and ALLLLLLL of them!

Robert Pattinson Scores A Hat Trick On The Film Stage's '100 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015' List

We're always excited to see all of Rob's movies but it's great to see that others are as excited to see his work now too.
No less than THREE of his movies made The Film Stages '100 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015' List.  
Life made an appearance on there as did Queen of the Desert and completing the hat trick is The Trap.

Here's what they had to say about each movie:

14. QUEEN OF THE DESERT
With rumors that it would arrive last year, the wait continues for Werner Herzog’s first narrative feature in half-a-decade, the story of legendary cartographer Gertrude Bell may be hitting theaters this year. Led by Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, James Franco, and Damian Lewis, Queen of the Desert follows Bell, a diplomatic explorer, who negotiated with Arab nations and helped establish the countries of Iraq and Jordan. Considering that Herzog is the man who gave us such epics as Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre, we’re looking forward to a return with what looks to be his most visually ambitious work in some time. With fall line-ups getting announced shortly, check back for updates. – Jordan R.

96. LIFE
After premiering his latest drama, A Most Wanted Man, at Sundance last year, we thought director Anton Corbijn might return to Park City, but barring any last-minute announcements that looks to not be the case. Hopefully coming later this year, as scripted by Luke Davies, Life centers on the relationship between James Dean (Dane DeHaan) and Life Magazine‘s Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson), the latter of whom had been tasked with capturing the up-and-coming actor less than a year before his rise to stardom and tragic death. – Jordan R

21. THE TRAP
After the success of Spring Breakers, Harmony Korine is ready to dive right into his next, “most ambitious” project yet. While little is known about The Trap, we do know that it will likely star Jamie Foxx, Robert Pattinson, and Benicio del Toro in a revenge, gangster drama that follows a “multi-generational family of criminals in the South.” Korine is set to begin shooting the film in Miami in the coming months. With Spring Breakers introducing Korine to a wider audience than ever before, could The Trap be his next big step into the cultural spotlight? – Dan G.

We already mentioned IonCinema including Queen of the Desert in their Top 100 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2015 and now they hit The Childhood of a Leader at #35.

The Childhood of a Leader
Director: Brady Corbet // Writers: Brady Corbet, Mona Fastvold 

Working with the likes of Bonello, Östlund, Assayas, Hansen-Løve and Baumbach, when you count the 2014 festival release year alone, actor Brady Corbet (Mysterious Skin; Funny Games U.S.; Simon Killer) has built quite the impressive resume working with the auteur set. While The Childhood of a Leader is his feature length directing debut, this counts as back to back years working in the filmmaker capacity when you take into account his writing creds in Mona Fastvold’s overlooked ’14 title, The Sleepwalker, and the soon to be premiered Sundance short Rabbit, by filmmaker Laure De Clermont-Tonnerre. Initially announced as starring Juliette Binoche (Corbet’s co-star from Clouds of Sils Maria), she was later replaced by Berenice Bejo. It goes without saying that most of the attention will be placed on Robert Pattinson, continuing his tour of difficult, auteur driven and inspired cinematic projects, but Corbet also nabs Tim Roth and Nymphomaniac star Stacy Martin in the lineup. Set in 1919, this story tells the tale of a ‘would-be-fascist,’ and the screenplay is inspired by a wide range of authorial pillars, from John Fowls to Jean-Paul Sarte with a bit of Volker Schlondorff’s 1966 classic Young Torless (which also served as a point of comparison for Haneke’s The White Ribbon). The film has been described as partially about a family that relocates to France for the Paris Peace Conference and about the events leading up to the Treaty of Versailles. Early descriptions of the film also point to elements of horror.

Release Date: With filming set for this January, the Venice Film Fest organizers must be eagerly awaiting a chance at showcasing this film.

Maps To The Stars released their US trailer today and The Playlist included the film in their 25 Best Films of 2015 We've Already Seen. Here's their verdict on the film:

Verdict: Soapy to the point of lunacy, overwrought to a near-camp extreme, and atypically messy from the usually hospital-corners Cronenberg, “Maps to the Stars” is also a huge, almost sinful truckload of fun. Assembling a wonderful cast who take delight in ripping to shreds the folly and hubris of the vacant Hollywood lifestyle, the film is a riot of inside-baseball winks about the film industry, and the deeply narcissist, rotten-to-the-core sellouts who populate it. Julianne Moore’s titanic performance as the fading star facing encroaching middle age (and therefore irrelevance) is so good that it won her Cannes' Best Actress award, and in one go ensures that she herself will never suffer her character’s fate. But all of the cast do sterling work: it’s a, "Hey, where you been?" to John Cusack, and a, "Hello, we’ll be seeing a lot more of you," to Evan Bird, especially. It’s may simply be a gonzo gothic telenovela (so much soap can only ever generate so much froth), but it’s a giddy good time at the pictures.

It's quite a welcomed reversal to read increasing numbers of film critics, bloggers and fanboys embracing Rob's film choices and anticipating their release. The Rover and Maps To The Stars will premiere in less than a week and The Playlist has included them in another list - The 15 Most Anticipated Films Of The 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Their remarks about Rob under The Rover were particularly pleasing. :))

"Maps To The Stars" (dir. David Cronenberg)
Cast: Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams, Robert Pattinson
Synopsis: A twisted Hollywood family—successful self-help magnate Dr. Stafford Weiss and his wife Cristiana, who manages the careers of their burned-out child star kids Agatha and Benjie—come into the orbit of an aspiring actor and a movie star haunted by her dead mother.
What You Need To Know: Two years on from the premiere of the divisive "Cosmopolis," David Cronenberg and star Robert Pattinson are back on the Croisette with a film that seems in many ways a sort of companion to that Don DeLillo adaptation. Penned by Bruce Wagner, it's a long-gestating passion project for the Canadian director, which finally got before cameras last year, and the chance to see him biting the Hollywood hand that intermittently feeds him is certainly an intriguing one, particularly with a cast like this. We're excited to see what Cronenberg newbies Wasikowska, Moore and Williams come up with, and to see Cusack get something substantial to do. The Hollywood satire genre has a dicey track record, but if anyone can make something closer to "Sunset Boulevard" than "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn," it's Cronenberg, and early footage has been promising, if very much in the chilly milieu of "Cosmopolis," right down to the limo sex.

Synopsis: In a dystopian near future in the Australian outback, a man hunts down the gang of criminals who stole his car, forcing a wounded and abandoned member of the gang to help track them.
What You Need To Know: For a long time “Foxcatcher” was our automatic response to the inevitable “which Cannes movie are you most looking forward to?” question, but in recent days Bennett Miller’s drama may have been overtaken in those stakes by the second film from “Animal Kingdom” director David Michôd, which sees him share writing duties with ‘Kingdom’ star Joel Edgerton. The reasons probably do credit to the blanket marketing tactics that have seen myriad pictures and clips roll out in the last week or so, but the fact is the pictures look that good, and the performances, from Pattinson and from our perennial favorite Guy Pearce look pretty special too, from this distance. In any case, seeing Michôd return to his “Animal Kingdom” themes of brotherhood, masculinity and criminality, but spread against a broader canvas of societal breakdown would be enough to get us in line alone. And whatever the haters have to say about Pattinson, we're rooting for him and hoping that the less-travelled career path he’s chosen post-stardom pays off in no uncertain terms soon. With this and “Maps to the Stars” both playing, maybe Cannes 2014 is the place that will happen for him.

Happy Monday for Rob fans! We have a few movie updates for you that will certainly make you feel spazztastic.



Did you know THE ROVER trailer is well past half a million views and should hit 1 million in a couple of days? Give it another watch to get you in the mood for this movie update post.



First up is The Playlist making me the love by having this article - Summer Movie Preview: 40 Most Anticipated Films - and then going ahead and making THE ROVER number 1!

1. "The Rover"
Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scoot McNairy
Synopsis: In a war-torn future beset by financial collapse, a man trudges across the Australian desert to locate his stolen car and secure the mysterious cargo found inside.
Why It’s Worth Seeing: This is the first film for director David Michôd since his riveting debut “Animal Kingdom.” It’s been described as an existential western, and sees him reteam with Guy Pearce, with heartthrob Robert Pattinson and character actor favorite Scoot McNairy also on board. Michôd's debut captured the sweeping scope of early Michael Mann mixed with Werner Herzog’s anthropological analysis of human behavior, crafting a debut that was both terrifying and utterly unforgettable. While he’s taking things in a vaguely sci-fi direction here, Michôd has promised that this will be a relatively grounded affair, a crime picture in the outback that could be indicative of a contemporary mashup of “Wake In Fright” (with the idea of an outsider stranded in the outback) and “Mad Max” (with its emphasis on vehicular action). It's still under wraps beyond some impressive trailers, but more than anything else, we're hopeful that a Midnight Screening premiere at Cannes bodes for this being something truly impressive. We're tantalizingly close to finding out.
Release Date: June 13th.

You should totally check out the full list just in case your heart is still in tact. Reading all the movies THE ROVER beat will make your heart burst completely out of your chest. I'm currently typing with my heart spilled out everywhere. My god...that's morbid. Let's move on although the news continues to be good and my heart continues to swell.



LIFE director, Anton Corbijn, has a website and while he was filming last month, he updated his site to drop a little gem of awesomeness:

This photograph is our first publicity shot from the film LIFE that i am currently shooting in Canada and USA. It is the story of James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock, set in early 1955. In the back of the car sits Jimmy as played by Dane DeHaan and in the passenger seat is Dennis, played by Robert Pattinson. Both guys are fantastic and are giving the film very good energy despite the very harsh winter we encountered in Canada.

We could have told him that. Rob is forever fantastic. Everyone else just needs to get the memo. ;)

WorkingRob is currently in transition. Or maybe he's just busy trying to figure out which crown the King of Cannes will be wearing next month. Either way, there are a couple of upcoming Rob projects that are starting to show signs of movement.

THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER might be filming from June 17 to Aug. 17 in Belgium and the UK according to Crew United. The site also revealed Rob's character name - CHARLES.



The website of costar, Michael Epp, also confirms a June start month.



The time frame conflicts with some 411 RPAU and Cumberbatchweb got from Benedict Cumberbatch this month about THE LOST CITY OF Z.

I know I know you all wanted information, but let me just say, Benedict was a little reluctant to talk about this film in detail for the simple reason that it was an upcoming project that he hadn’t filmed yet. Although when I asked him about it starting to film in July he did say “yes or possibly sooner”. He also made it a point to say that LCoZ was a difficult film and the logistics behind it are huge....So during the Q&A one wise soul did ask him about future projects (for those interested he has some TV in the pipeline with BBC and a movie in post production called “The Imitation Game“), but it’s his final comment on this question you’ll all be interested in (and I’m paraphrasing) “I am hopefully filming a movie called Lost City of Z in June”.

This could all work out since Rob is on supporting duties for both films. He seemed to film T.E. Lawrence for QUEEN OF THE DESERT in a blink. Summer 2014 for Rob might see him knocking  out both THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER and THE LOST CITY OF Z. We'll keep you posted of course. :)

As for Rob's other films that have been on a back burner - MISSION: BLACKLIST and HOLD ON TO ME - they remain on the back burner. No substantial movement or bait for us to bite on. Right now, I've got all of my digits crossed (making typing very difficult) for 3 things: 1. a new project is announced during Cannes 2. Rob is the lead and only star and 3. it's 24 hours long.



Ok so maybe just number 1 will happen. ;)

MOVIE NEWS: Robert Pattinson completes filming in Toronto, The Rover release dates move closer and more!

We're about to hit some limbo action with WorkingRob. @seansmovies has been tracking filming in Toronto for Life and tweeted that production wrapped in Toronto.



At the same time, it looks like some more filming will take place in Los Angeles. An extra located in LA (also a casting director for extras) shared some paperwork on his instagram for upcoming extra work on Life and a Rob sighting has already sprung on twitter. Dennis Stock met James Dean at Chateau Marmont so it would be pretty cool if some filming took place at the famous Hollywood hotel.



What's next for Rob after Life? Well Embankment Films still has Mission: Blacklist listed as second quarter 2014 on their website and there's been no updates for The Childhood of a Leader beyond the last word of May 2014. The Lost City of Z is still sitting on summer 2014. So we'll have to wait and see which film is up to bat next.



In the meantime, with announcements coming April 17, we've got the Cannes buzz basically a loud BANG right now. Variety is the latest to list both Maps To The Stars and The Rover for Cannes potential. French press is also talking up Maps To The Stars and The Wrap mentioned seeing Rob on the Croisette with both films.

Speaking of The Rover, Australia's release date was moved up as well!

The film was originally slated for July 31st but has been moved to June 12th! The country joins the US with the June release date. We reached out to our eOne contact to see if the UK and Canada will also join the US and Australia but they weren't ready to confirm a theatrical release. So sit tight just a little but longer. We'll see what happens. They know you want it NOW!

The anticipation kills us, non? And finally, speaking of anticipating Rob's films, IONCINEMA has rightly decided to list every upcoming Rob film in their most anticipated lists for 2014 and 2015.

Robert Pattinson's upcoming films, Maps To The Stars & The Rover, continue to be most anticipated films!

Along with Maps To The Stars, The Rover has made some most anticipated lists for 2014 films, notably, the Blackbook list. I've been waiting for Part 2 of The Playlist list to come out because I suspected MTTS and The Rover to have a showing. And a showing they had!

The Rover is ranked #11 out of 100 of the Most Anticipated Films of 2014:

11. "The Rover"
Synopsis: In a war-torn future beset by financial collapse, a man trudges across the Australian desert to locate his stolen car and secure the mysterious cargo found inside.
What You Need To Know: This is the first film for director David Michod since his riveting debut “Animal Kingdom.” It’s been described as an existential western, and it’s being fronted by “Twilight” heartthrob Robert Pattinson. Michod is also re-teaming with “Animal Kingdom” co-star Guy Pearce, with the fairly ubiquitous Scoot McNairy onboard as well.
Why Is It Anticipated: “Animal Kingdom” was one of the most exciting debuts of the last few years. That picture captured the sweeping scope of early Michael Mann mixed with Werner Herzog’s anthropological analysis of human behavior, crafting a debut that was both terrifying and utterly unforgettable. What You Need To Know: This Hollywood-set tale, penned by novelist Bruce Wagner, has been in the works for close to a decade, and seems to have been something of a passion project for director David Cronenberg: it's come close to production more than once before, but eventually got before cameras last year. Seemingly closer to last film "Cosmopolis" than his more commercial work on something like "Eastern Promises," it's also home to the director's most promising cast in a long-time, with the returning Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon joined by John Cusack, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and perhaps most interestingly, Carrie Fisher, as 'Herself.'
Why Is It Anticipated: We can't say we were huge fans of Cronenberg's last couple of movies, but the idea of the Canadian legend turning his attention to biting the hand that feeds him is an immediately intriguing one, and doubly so when you start adding drug-addicted thirteen-year-old child actors, pyromania and ghosts of dead 1960s stars into the mix. There are a lot of strong actors here who seem particularly suited to working with Cronenberg (Moore, Williams, Wasikowska), and perhaps more than anything, we're delighted to see John Cusack in a movie that isn't a straight-to-VOD actioner that hadn't already been turned down by Nicolas Cage (with this film along with "Love and Mercy," we're hoping 2014 is Cusack's comeback year). Early pics here for what could be another "Cosmopolis," oblique and chilly, but we've got our fingers crossed for something more satisfying.

Not much is known about The Rover except its release date (2014), the stars involved (Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson,) and a thin synopsis. So far, we know that Pearce and Pattinson are forced to work together to find a stolen car. Hopefully there will be a trailer soon! This aside, everything points to a great film.

The Film Stage listed The Rover as one of the enticing films on A24's slate for 2014.

It's that time of year when different lists start to come out some looking at the year gone by and others looking forward to next year. Blackbook have compiled their '30 Most Anticipated Films of 2014' list and Robert Pattinson's The Rover & Maps to the Stars have made it onto their list.

Anticipated is probably putting it lightly!





THE ROVER

Director: David Michod, finally following up his outstanding 2010 debut, Animal Kingdom.

Concept: A loner tracks the gang who stole his car from a desolate town in the Australian outback.
Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scoot McNairy.
The Skinny: Animal Kingdom was one of the most confident, assured debuts of the last decade, and I have a strong feeling this will cement Michod as one of the great modern auteurs. Also, Guy Pearce has a knack for appearing in cult classics (Memento, LA Confidential), and Pattinson showed surprising chops in 2012′s Cosmopolis. - DH

MAP TO THE STARS

Director: David Cronenberg, making his 18th film.
Concept: The entertainment industry’s relationship to Western civilization, as seen through the plight of two former child stars.
Cast: Mia Wasikowska, Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson, John Cusack.
The Skinny: Cronenberg is always worthwhile, and turning his cerebral, surreal eye on Hollywood could wield fascinating results. Wasikowska is becoming a great actress, and it’s nice to see Robert Pattinson leap into auteur-driven art house projects, post-Twilight fame. - DH

2. Water For Elephants

What’s this, another Robert Pattinson film? Of course, he is the hottest thing in Hollywood right now. He plays a veterinarian who joins a traveling circus in the Great Depression. Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz star in this heart felt film about a torn love between his character and the married Marlena (Reese Witherspoon) and his new way of training a stubborn elephant that should get the approval of PETA.



8. Bel Ami

The Story of the rise to power of Georges Duroy in Paris by manipulating the city’s most influential and wealthy women. This film stars Twilight’s Robert Pattinson and many are anxiously waiting to see if Robert can hold his own against Hollywood sirens like Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas.

Robert Pattinson's Remember Me & Eclipse: Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 w/ Twilight Cast

MTV lists the movies that the Twilight stars have lined up in 2010.

"Remember Me" (March 12)
All of Hollywood is asking one simple question these days: Can Rob Pattinson open a non-"Twilight" movie? We'll find out soon enough, as he stars alongside Emilie de Ravin in this romantic drama that similarly involves family, tragedy and issues of eternal love — but minus the bloodsucking.

"Eclipse" (June 30)
It's the big kahuna, the top dog, the whole enchilada. And so far, virtually nothing has been released that gives us any indication of what David Slade's "Twilight" movie will be like. Who are we kidding? We're there anyway.
