Why Might It Be a Must See: Whatever you think of Robert Pattison becoming David Cronenberg's newfound muse, their second collaboration in as many years looks mighty appealing. The long-delayed "Map to The Stars" also brings Cronenberg's other righthand man Viggo Mortensen along for the ride (as well as Rachel Weisz), and is said to be a complex Hollywood satire... Why Might It Be a Must See: Just because he was recently seen onscreen as the villain in "Jack Reacher" doesn't mean Herzog has sold out. Every since "Rescue Dawn," the kooky Bavarian filmmaker has entered a compelling new stage with the narrative side of his filmmaking career, delivering bizarre, discursive dramas (can anyone really explain "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?") with the same loony poetry that often spills out of Herzog's mouth (that iguana bit in "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" was something else). Herzog's new movie looks like a consolidation of his life as an adventurous documentarian and oddball fiction work: The movie stars Watts as legendary explorer Gertrude Bell and Pattinson as "Lawrence of Arabia" author T.E. Lawrence. Herzog tends to bring out the maniacal side of his actors, which means this could be a thrill ride in more ways than one. [Eric Kohn]
The rumors swirling around Rob being the new face of Dior mens fragrance keep mounting up. We had the first fire started by eOnline. Click HERE to read their report that Rob signed a 3 year deal with Dior and will collect $12 million. But then The Hollywood Reporter threw some water on that fire HERE. Claimed it was still only a rumor. Rob was asked about it during BD2 promo and his poor poker face HERE started the fire back up until we got pics of him in NYC HERE filming what people said was a commercial for Dior and well....everything is blazing!

Many wondered if how "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson and director David Cronenberg would mesh, particularly on a project as talky as "Cosmpolis," which requires a confident and compelling leading man. But as it turns out, Cronenberg had a great time working with the young actor and has nothing but praise for the rising star.
"I really think he's a terrific actor. He's extremely inventive. He surprised me every day on 'Cosmopolis' with the nuances and things that he did which were unexpected. Of course I was very familiar with the dialogue and yet he would surprise me," Cronenberg enthused. "And I thought, this is a guy who I would like to work with some more, which is how I felt with Viggo Mortensen. When you find an actor who surprises you everyday, you figure, he could do it some more with a completely different role in a completely different movie."
While it's still coming together, should it all work out, Cronenberg will get to work in May on "Map To The Stars," a new film that will reunite him with Pattinson and Mortensen, (Kate: Or NOT as we found out yesterday HERE) and also feature Rachel Weisz. "It's kind of a satire on Hollywood. It's very typical of Bruce Wagner's writing. And it's sort of a condensed essence of Bruce. And while it's satirical, it's also very powerful, emotionally, and insightful and funny," he explained about the movie. "And it would be the first time I've ever shot a foot of film in the United States. It's strange, just because of the way the co-production deals work, that even though I've had movies that are set in the U.S. like 'Cosmopolis' or 'The Dead Zone,' I've never shot in the United States. This would be the first time. And I'm really excited about it.
Movieline: Is your next project ready to go?But he also says this is an indie film and things change...such as this excerpt from Details online magazine:
Cronenberg: Finishing my novel right now, and I hope to be shooting Maps of the Stars in May, written by Bruce Wagner. However, it is an indie project which means, therefore, that it could fall apart.
DETAILS: Maps to the Stars is supposed to start shooting in May. Have you been able to sign Robert Pattinson, Viggo Mortensen, and Rachel Weisz?Hmmmm....so Viggo is more likely out than in BUT could be in since things change everyday. We'll keep you posted!
DAVID CRONENBERG: I don't think Viggo will be able to do it, but with the other two, so far, so good. Have they signed? No. But they have a verbal commitment if everything works out and if other things don't come along. It's still very possible for the three of them, but it's far from certain. That's life in the indie film world.
Never have I been so confident in my top choice of stylish star as I am with Robert Pattinson. Well…….if I’m honest they all excite me. I guess “The Rover” would be my initial choice but I’m not sure if that’s mainly because it’s the first one on Rob’s schedule for this year. And then I’m SUPER excited about “Maps to the Stars” too (if it happens) because it’s Robenberg again can’t WAIT for that. Ugh this is harder than I thought (what are the next 364 gonna be like?) RIGHT going with the first thing that came into my head “THE ROVER” is my choice, going with this one because we know SO little about it, the cast is brilliant and I saw “Animal Kingdom” over Christmas and I liked what I saw! this is crazy hard because im so excited for all of Rob’s upcoming films: The Rover because he’s working with a fresh and talented filmmaker and the role was something he said wasn’t easy to come by. he’ll be playing more of a “character” than he normally does. Hold On To Me because the role is probably the most purposely sexy of all of them and the story is great. it’s a minor role but a significant one. Queen of the Desert because he’s taking on the challenge again of playing a real person and the period and story excite me. Maps To The Stars because of David Cronenberg. Mission: Blacklist because it’s the only film with Rob as the lead and the story is completely fascinating. Rob is working with amazing directors for each role and his co-stars are some of the best in the business.
saying all that, i’ll choose The Rover as the film i’m looking forward to the most but only because it’s the one i know the least about. we tend to be more intrigued by the unknown sometimes. that’s the only way i could decide for this day.Kat:
