VIDEO: David Michôd talks about Robert Pattinson's rich understanding of Rey + New Rob, Guy and David pic from Cannes
I really enjoyed this interview. David is really chill and thoughtful. Listen to the whole thing but he talks about Rob at the 15:13 mark and until the end. He shares how much he loves Rob as Rey, bringing this side of Rob to his audience is exciting and more goodness.
There's also a new picture of Rob with David and Guy from Cannes at Mouton Cadet Wine Bar

UPDATE: Interview from the red carpet by Scoopla
You'll love what David and Guy say....
UPDATE
I love hearing or reading David talking about Rob. Here's an interview he had with Cinema Australia and he praised Rob again.
Excerpt:
Critically, Animal Kingdom was a very successful film. Was the process of developing The Rover made easier based on the success of that film?
Developing it was just like developing anything. It was me writing, rewriting and rewriting again. Certainly putting it together, getting people to look at it and getting the film financed was made a lot easier. When it came time to cast, for instance Rob Pattinson’s role, I found myself in a very privileged position of being able to get a number of really quite accomplished actors to get in and test for me. One of whom was Rob. Certainly having something already under your belt that has gotten a lot of attention makes that process a lot easier.
You mentioned other actors had tested for the role of Rey. Anyone you’d care to mention?
I can’t say that. I can’t speak out of school. [Laughs].
...
How exciting was it for you to get Robert onboard. There’s a huge commercial element and a built in audience that comes with Robert, so was that a factor in your excitement?
It remains to be seen because I never know what the commercial results of having an actor in your movie might be but there is certainly a thrill to be had in knowing that you’ll be working with someone who is as profoundly famous as Robert is and giving them an opportunity to demonstrate a skill set that people possibly don’t even know he has. I think Robert is extraordinary in this movie. I’ve obviously seen it a thousand times and I just love losing myself in his performance and I love watching him and Guy bounce off each other. Two wildly different characters having to figure each other out performed by wonderful actors. This is what the thrill of directing is all about.
Did they get along off screen?
Totally. They’re both really beautiful human beings and given the nature of the shoot and that we were out in the middle of nowhere in really challenging conditions meant that after a days work was done we really bonded in a warm and special way.

I loved this little mention from Evan Bird!
Excerpt from Indiewire:
Evan Bird: A lot of actors my age, they're doing it either to become famous or rich. It's not about that. It shouldn't be. When it is about that, you're not going to be successful. Most people that are succesful appreciate it for an artistic value. You need to enjoy it. You should have no other reason to do it. Of course you make good money, and that's because everyone loves movies. I mean look at Robert Pattinson. He's a really down to earth guy, but he's a huge star.Huge star indeed.
Robert Pattinson to work with Olivier Assayas? "Let's hope so..."
UPDATE: Another mention from a different interview added below
Robert Pattinson to work with Olivier Assayas? "Let's hope so..."
It looks like Rob has got another esteemed director lined up...Olivier Assayas!
Robert Pattinson to work with Olivier Assayas? "Let's hope so..."
It looks like Rob has got another esteemed director lined up...Olivier Assayas!
The rumor comes from an interview Assayas conducted with French newspaper, "The Inrocks". Pattinson Art Work has provided a translation of the interview but the French version follows directly after:
Translation: "I see that in the United States, especially since the success of 'l'Heure d'été' and 'Carlos', I gained a relative notoriety, which sharpens the curiosity of some actors. In my next film, for example, will included Robert Pattinson."That's awesome. Rob is pretty entrenched in the auteur, independent film circuit now. And a bit of trivia, do you remember the last time we mentioned Assayas on the blog? These guys were having a bit of fun with Rob's fandom but Rob was there with buddies Tom Sturridge and Johnny Flynn (Flynn was in Assayas' Something In The Air). Now I wish those guys had eavesdropped on some conversations with Rob and Olivier. We know the collaboration was welcomed in 2012....
The film Rob might be in isn't specified but Variety has some information on Assayas' next film, HUBRIS - his first shot in the US. It'll be "an action-packed crime thriller set against the backdrop of organized crime in Chicago in the 1970s." Oh YES PLEASE!
Assayas will write the script. "Inspired by an article by journo Hillel Levin, “Hubris” turns on a gang of thieves led by notorious mastermind John Mendell who rob a pawn shop only to discover it is a front for Chicago’s most brutal crime boss, Tony Accardo."
GAH. We'll keep a look out to see if this is the one Rob might be involved in.

Another mention from Olivier of possibly working with Rob. This time in an interview with Studio Cine Live.
Translation:
"These young people really deserve to be recognized
Besides, my next film I'll probably shoot with robert pattinson"

Excerpt from Maps To The Stars production notes:
When Agatha Weiss returns to Los Angeles, she makes an instant connection with the first person she encounters: her limo driver, a would - be screenwriter who chauffeurs the far more successful, and who becomes increasingly entangled in her larger - than - life drama.
Taking the role of Jerome is leading star Robert Pattinson, who wanted to work with Cronenberg again on the heels of taking the lead role in Cosmopolis (coincidentally, Pattinson played a billionaire who is a limo passenger throughout that film.)
He was one of the first cast members to sign on, which Martin Katz says helped buoy the project. “Robert’s enthusiasm for Maps to the Stars is one of the things that really got us underway. Jerome is not a large role but it’s very significant in the story and his joining the cast gave us a terrific amount of momentum,” recalls the producer. “In a sense he is playing Bruce Wagner, who was himself at one time a limo driver and unemployed writer.”
Cronenberg was thrilled to reunite with Pattinson, and in such a different kind of role. “I think Rob was really happy to be part of an ensemble,” he says. “But Jerome is also a critical character, a lovely character and it was a chance for Rob to give a more naturalistic performance. I knew he would be fabulous and he was.”
Pattinson’s experience working on Cosmopolis with Cronenberg was so profound that he agreed to the role of Jerome before reading the script. But when he finally sat down to read it, he recalls, “Within two pages I was thinking wow, this is so unbelievably different and hilarious. I don't even know what people are going to make of this, but it feels dangerous. It’s sort of satirical but it’s also a ghost story and it’s also a kind of thriller. It defies genre.”
He came to see Maps To The Stars as more than just another L.A. story. “It’s really about 10 people who lie to themselves – right up until the end,” he summarizes.
Yet within all that, Pattinson sees Jerome as the most ordinary of the film’s roster of outrageously deluded and desperate characters -- typical of a certain kind of everyday L.A. dreamer, a regular guy with a regular job who nevertheless always believes h e is just one move away from becoming a major actor and writer.
“Jerome would never accept that he is just a limo driver. I think he feels he’s just waiting for his break,” Pattinson observes. “And yet, he’s seemingly the only one in this story who's not going insane -- or who isn’t a ghost. He's a fairly normal guy, which is slightly odd for me, as well.”
Working with his fellow cast members was another big draw for Pattinson. Of Julianne Moore, he says: “She’s hilarious and also very sane, which is kind of ironic given who Havana Segrand is. And she shifts so subtly into character, you barely notice what she is doing. It’s kind of amazing.”
He worked most closely with Mia Wasikowska as Agatha, who comes to rely on Jerome as her sole friend in the city. “I knew Mia was going to be wonderful in this,” he says. “She’s so lovely that it was horrible for me to watch Agatha be bullied by her entire family.”
For Cronenberg, the chance to work with cast members like Pattinson and Gadon multiple times is one of the most gratifying aspects of his career. “It's really beautiful for me to see that blossoming and the evolution of actors as I work with them, ” he concludes.

ROBERT PATTINSON (Jerome Fontana) is best known for his portrayal of the vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga . I transcribed the Rob mentions but the scans are all below if you'd like to read the interview in its entirety:
Like her pyrotechnic stage outfits, her humour is saucy and postcard style - all double entendres and faintly inappropriate fart jokes. "OK, so here's the proof there was never anything going on with me and Robert Pattinson. I fart in front of him. Properly fart. And I never, ever fart in front of a man I am dating. That's a rule." It's typical Katy - a disarming way to diffuse an awkward topic. "He's my bud, I'm like his big sister. We just hang out. The other day, I said: 'One of the things I'm most proud of is not sleeping with you, Robert.' And that's true."
Part of me thinks quiet, English Robert might be a loverly boyfriend for Katy. Yet it's clear, given her predilection for bad, big-mouthed boys, that he is absolutely not her type.
.....
She also has A-list girlfriend, with whom relations sometimes seem a little strained. Mortified at being painted as the other woman, she made sure Kristen Stewart knew the Robert Pattinson relationship rumors were just that. "I sent her a text message saying: 'I know you've seen all this stuff, but you know I would never disrespect you. I'm not that person. I'm just trying to be a friend to him but it is unfortunate that I do have a set of tits.'"

Anyone who thinks Robert Pattinson's acting stops at making swoony vampire eyes is selling the star short -- by a considerable margin. (Tink: HELL YES)
While Pattinson's performances in "Water for Elephants" and "Remember Me" were solid, both leaned too heavily on his "Twilight" cred, casually capitalizing on his weepy romantic image. However, it was last year's "Cosmopolis," an adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel of the same name by Canadian director David Cronenberg, that pushed Pattinson over the edge from potentially great to genuinely wonderful. (Tink: I die.)
It looks like that streak will continue with "The Rover," a post-apocalyptic western from "Animal Kingdom" director David Michod, which has just secured American distribution from A24 ("Spring Breakers," "The Bling Ring").Keep on wooing us with those words, Moviefone, keep on....

DiorRob has been getting some great press but we love when the fashion press who have seen the ad take to twitter and share their thoughts. Nina, a contributing editor for Glamour Italia, is the latest. She couldn't reveal anything about the upcoming article but she had nothing but swoony compliments for Rob and the Dior ad.

ROBsessed Award Winner, Patricia McKenzie talks about the gentlemanly, charming Robert Pattinson, Bear and more! Part 1: The Sugar
ROBsessed Award Winner, Patricia McKenzie talks about the gentlemanly, charming Robert Pattinson, Bear and more! Part 1: The Sugar
It's party time in the DR! Are you ready??
Well the dark recesses won't be decent by the end because this is the long awaited interview with ROBsessed Award Winner, Patricia McKenzie! Actually you guys didn't know it was long awaited. It was a behind the scenes operation. Back in January, after you voted the Eric and Kendra sex scene in Cosmopolis as Robert Pattinson's Best Sex Scene of 2012, we contacted Patricia McKenzie to congratulate her, send her award and inquire about an interview - specifically about the sex scene. It's what she won the award for so only makes sense we talk about the sex scene.
I didn't know Patricia would be so awesome and answer all 17 of the questions but she did and she answered in detail so we're breaking this up. Give you time to marinate on the answers. This Part is our sweet part, The Sugar. Tomorrow, we'll post The Spice. She apologized for the delay but I think it was meant to be that she sent us her replies during Cosmopolis month for 365DoR! Couldn't have planned that any better. I've jabbered enough. Onwards!

ROBsessed: What was your diet like to prepare for the physically demanding scene?
Patricia McKenzie: Sadly, I kind of peaked before we shot. I had done a three week detox some months before, looked lean for a bit, and figured I'd do it again in time for the love scene. That scene ended up being pushed up a month early so in the three days I had to prepare, I did a partial juice fast, cut down on solid foods, and drank lots of water, just to feel like I was doing something. In the end, I don't think diet really mattered, and in my experience as an actor, no one ever seems to care about any extra pounds on me or anyone else. What an actor is expressing is far more important and interesting to watch than how flat their tummy is.
ROBsessed: Did you and Rob collaborate with David for the scene?
McKenzie: We had a rehearsal on set that morning to try some things, but finally David decided we would do the whole scene while making love, and all in one take which was quite a challenge. My first career was as a dancer, where you rehearse for 8 weeks before stepping onstage. Now, I'm always amazed at how much we as actors have to bring to the table, and be ready to improvise, and how fast the director has to think on his feet to orchestrate it all.
ROBsessed: Is Xanax prescribed for the day to calm nerves? I'm joking ;) kind of
McKenzie: It would have been tempting to have wine before the scene! One of the first film acting jobs I ever had was laced with highly erotic content, and I was young, naive, and an absolute prude. To get through the love scenes they had to ply me with red wine and the director promised me, on the life of her children, that I wouldn't be ashamed of the result. She was an angel, and in hindsight, the scene was very tame. The relationship of an actor to a director is crucial, you have to put all of your faith in their vision, so what made the intimacy in Cosmopolis really easy for me was that I trusted David completely. Rob was a sweetheart as well, very supportive and very professional. From a holistic standpoint, to mentally prepare for an intense day on set, deep breathing saves me every time, as well as a mantra not to judge myself positively or negatively, just to be. "Express, don't impress" is my aspiration.
ROBsessed: How many takes did you have to do because the shot is fairly long and uninterrupted. Was it difficult to be so wordy with such a physical scene?
McKenzie: It was a long, sweaty day, but I like being physical, and I like the heightened awareness everyone has on set during a love scene. Those days have a very different energy from the other days. Yeah, it was lots of fun and a delightful challenge to deal with unconventional dialogue in the heat of passion. I have played various lesbians on Canadian shows for years, so it was a nice change to be partnered with Rob.
ROBsessed: Was the gun heavy? Did you film Eric being tasered?
McKenzie: With so much action, I hardly remember the weight of the gun. We did not film Eric being tasered, Rob really wanted to, and do it for real. Thank goodness, I would hate to have been the one to have to taser him! I've been exposed to all kind of guns on set and they always terrify me.
ROBsessed: Who was stronger? You or Rob?
McKenzie: I think he is a gentleman and would let me win if we wrestled.
ROBsessed: How do you mentally prepare?
McKenzie: Let go of all expectations and go with the moment. There was almost no preparation I could do, although I tried valiantly, and sweated over it for months. I think ultimately my preparation was to let go of needing to feel prepared and just trust.
ROBsessed: Did you suspect Rob fans would find the scene pretty steamy?
McKenzie: I purposely didn't watch any playback so I had no idea what the scene looked like or how people would react, although I had an inkling that people on set seemed to think it was hot, judging by the way everyone came out of the woodwork, and gathered around the monitor. Ha Ha. It's all about the scene while I'm working, connecting with my costar, being as truthful and revealing as I can and trying to be compelling. After it was all done, like any actor, I ultimately want approval, so I sweated for a few weeks, hoping people wouldn't abhor my presence in the film, or even worse, that the scene would end up on the cutting room floor! Eventually I always come to the conclusion that other people's opinions of my work or even my sex appeal, are none of my business and my job is to keep any of those concerns out of my mind. But, I have to admit that I am thrilled and amazed to have pleased Rob's discerning and dedicated fans!
ROBsessed: Tell us something we might not know about Rob and David.
McKenzie: They are two of the sweetest men in Hollywood. Both are extremely humble in person and lack pretension. I felt very comfortable around both of them. David Cronenberg gave me a big hug the first time I ever saw him, and he said he was happy to finally meet me, which was so disarming, charming and fatherly. I think that is when I fell in love, because I will give everything to a director that makes me feel as safe and protected as a child. And Cronenberg is so patient. He gives everyone on set all the time they need to do their best work, and speaks quietly to keep the atmosphere on set very calm and enjoyable. David was also very patient with my fawning over him at the warp party, because I was so appreciative of his work style I just couldn't help gushing like a schoolgirl with with a crush, very embarrassing in retrospect. I didn't expect Rob to be so tall, and so charming. Everyone loved him on set. He can carry his own in any conversation and takes pains to make others feel at ease. He is very down-to-earth and low-key, the kind of guy that just chills with his dog, or with a pint. What's his dogs name, Bear? I'm pretty sure I remember that from playing with him, although it's possible I heard the name somewhere, but anyone who calls a small dog "Bear" has a good sense of humour. I had two 95lb boxers named Zeus and Troy, that I was missing, so it was fun to play with that friendly little Bear. Anyway, I got the impression that he preferred a dark pub, to cruising on a yacht, or anything fancy. He actually called me "fancy" because yes, if there's an occasion, I may prefer boating to beers on a hot summer day, but otherwise, I like to stay home and immerse myself in my own world.
Let's have it all! Boating WITH beers but awwwwwww don't you love what Patricia shared?? I mean seriously. Down-to-earth, low key, gentlemanly, charming, everyone loved him, dog lover, sweetheart, professional, supportive, humble....GAH! We know these things about Rob already but how much do you love it when they're consistently expressed??
Tomorrow? Part 2: The Spice....*wink* Patricia breaks down the modesty patches used (not used?) and more! I'm being such a tease.

While we're in limbo on a start date for the Mission: Blacklist, Mission Blacklist France has a great interview with the film's co-screenwriter, Dylan Kussman:
Was it complicated for you to work on this book and, particularly, on this subject?
"The most challenging part about working on the project for me personally was absorbing the vast amount of research Erik and Trace had compiled before I came onboard. On top of the book itself, there were hundreds of pages of interviews they'd conducted with the Staff Sergeant, firsthand accounts of the Iraq War and of the American presence in Baghdad and Tikrit after Saddam's fall -- I had to get up to speed in a hurry. Once I'd gotten on top of the material, however, I was fortunately able to see a strong and clear contribution I could make towards rendering this soldier's mind-bending ordeal into a piece of dramatic cinema. Incredible human beings don't always make compelling onscreen protagonists, but between the work we've done as writers, Jean Stephane Sauvaire's guiding hand as director, and Robert Pattinson's committment to playing this inspiring figure with the fearless honesty for which he's known, I don't think that will be the case here."
Did you work directly with Eric Maddox to sort out what to take or not take from the book?
"Both Erik Jendresen and Trace Sheehan worked more directly with Eric Maddox than I did, and Mr. Pattinson has spent an extended amount of time with him at this point. They will be able to speak to your question better than me."
In the story, the blue shirt is very important and during a lecture in Oklahoma University, Eric Maddox said that Robert Pattinson will probably wear it, did you include it in your work?Did this get you even MORE excited???
"Eric Maddox wore the same blue oxford shirt throughout his intelligence effort to help locate Saddam Hussein, and we included that costume choice as part of Maddox's character in the screenplay. Whether Robert will be wearing the actual shirt during the shoot is a question for the director, actor, and Staff Sergeant Maddox to answer."
...
What do you think of Robert Pattinson's choice as the lead man?
"Robert Pattinson is a phenomenal choice. We were all thrilled when he came onboard. More importantly, after spending lengthy one-on-one time with Staff Sergeant Maddox, and getting Maddox's personal blessing to portray him in the movie ... he is the only choice."
What can you tell us (that nobody knows yet) about the movie or the project?
"All I can say is, you've never seen a story like this one, or experienced an intelligence, military or otherwise, like you will Staff Sergeant Maddox's in this film. His is truly a remarkable mind; I remain as much in awe of it now as I was after I first read the book, and I remain very proud to have been a small part of the process of bringing the man and his story to the screen"

YAY! I've been hoping for this! As Guy Pearce gears up to promote Iron Man 3, we'll get some info about Rob and The Rover because Guy will be in the press more.
From the Daily Telegraph:
Robert Pattinson is the real deal, according to Guy Pearce, his co-star in The Rover. The two actors have just spent seven weeks together in the South Australian Outback, filming director David Michod's hotly-anticipated follow-up to Animal Kingdom, with Pearce waxing lyrical about his co-stars ''beautiful face''.
''The best thing about Rob is that he is a really great actor,'' says Pearce. ''Watching the rushes back, you go: 'OK, he is just going to be fantastic'.''
The Twilight star plays white trailer trash from the southern states of America in the futuristic western, set in an apocalyptic near future where society has broken down in the wake of a severe financial crisis.
''He plays (the character) slightly backward, emotionally useless and really vulnerable,'' says Pearce. ''He's got this beautiful face so you are completely entranced by that face no matter how ugly he makes himself or how wounded he is, or how manky his haircut.''LOVE IT!!!! Guy is totally ROBsessed ;)

Eric Maddox spoke at the University of Oklahoma the other day and mentioned Mission: Blacklist and Rob.
Excerpt from OU Daily:
This same story is encapsulated in his book, “Mission: Blacklist #1,” on which a movie will be based starring Robert Pattinson, who will play Maddox. “Somebody wants to make a movie about my story - it’s very exciting,” Maddox said.
Maddox said he has already met and gotten to know Pattinson. “He’s a great guy,” Maddox said. “When they brought his name up to me, I had never heard of him before. I don’t believe in vampire movies and stories. I just didn’t know who he was.”
Maddox said he wore a single blue shirt for months in his search for Hussein, with no other changes of clothes. The shirt has a bigmouth bass embossed on it, Velcro pockets and bloodstains. “I’ve still got it [the shirt.] I think Rob is gonna wear it in the movie,” Maddox said. How cool if Rob ends up wearing the actual shirt! If you read the book, you know the shirt didn't go unnoticed. Click HERE to read the full article. Follow Kate and I as we bring you more Mission: Blacklist news HERE.

"I can probably name 10 actors who've been compared to Robert Pattinson," Irons said at the film's Hollywood premiere. "So it's an honor -- I think he's doing very well for himself, he's got some amazing projects coming out -- so it's a bit of an honor, but I think everyone's an individual. But it's nice to be likened to him."Check out the full video interview to hear his remarks.
