LA Times with Robert Pattinson on The Rover Red Carpet

LA Times On 'The Rover' red carpet, Robert Pattinson in a new guise

The only similarity between Robert Pattinson’s work in “Twilight” and his new film “The Rover”? The screaming fans who still appeared as he walked the red carpet in Los Angeles on Thursday at the U.S. premiere of the Australian indie movie.

“It’s always distracting when that happens,” “Rover” director David Michôd said in a rare lull of silence outside the Regency Bruin Theatre.

Before casting Pattinson in “The Rover” – the director's second film (the first was 2010’s “Animal Kingdom”) -- Michôd said he wasn’t versed in Pattinson’s vampire period.

“I was pretty much totally unfamiliar with his work, but I had had a meeting with him before I even know I was going to make “The Rover” and really liked him,” Michôd said. “I found his physical energy really kind of beguiling and he was really sort of emotionally available, so I really wanted to sort of see what he could do. And, he just knocked my little socks off to the extent that me and my casting director turned to each other once he left the room and went, ‘Well, OK, that’s done, right?’”

That meeting eventually led to Michôd casting Pattinson in his new movie, which features the star and Guy Pearce as an unlikely duo who embark on a quest across a post-apocalyptic landscape. Pattinson trades glittering skin and perfectly coiffed hair for open wounds and a shoddy buzz cut.

“It’s just so kind of stark, and it was just so different,” Pattinson said of the material. “Something just spoke to me in it, and I really don’t know quite what it was.”

He added, "If these scripts came along once every six months, I would do them every single time. But they just don’t.”

Pearce noted that he "saw a transformation before Day 1, really,” and Liz Watts, one of the film's producers, said she believed the team ethos helped Pattinson hone the character.

The actor, she said, "came to the outback and put up with flies and heat and dust and all the rest.” (Pattinson has praised the isolated location of the film for helping him focus on the role.)

There was a different vibe in Westwood on Thursday night, the screaming fans a reminder of Pattinson's more typical moviemaking experience.

Clutching a three-foot rendering of Pattinson’s scruffy face, Nancy Cambino, 47, said she traveled from her native Long Island, N.Y., to see Pattinson at “The Rover” premiere. She became a fan during his “Twilight” days, and has met him multiple times. But it’s not “Twilight” that keeps her holding her Pattinson cutout.
“I actually don’t like ‘Twilight.’ I never did,” Cambino said. “I’m a Rob fan, not a ‘Twilight’ fan. I saw ‘Twilight’ and I went, ‘Oh, I like this guy,’ and I went to watch all his other movies and I like them much better.” Cambino said she already had her ticket to see “The Rover” that night at a public screening, eagerly pointing to the words on her Pattinson poster below the movie’s title.“A career-defining role. That’s what it’s all about,” she said.

Robert Pattinson thinks his fans are wonderful... and we think he is.

Robert Pattinson thinks his fans are wonderful... certainly something to live up to. Do it well folks, make him proud and let's SUPPORT Rob.

A smartly dressed Robert Pattinson stepped out in New York City on Monday evening, for the premiere of his new film, “Cosmopolis,” marking the star’s first public event since news of Kristen Stewart’s cheating scandal broke.

But despite the recent headlines, Robert was focused on his film — and his fans.

Hitting the red carpet, the actor expressed remorse over not being able to take care of his fans’ red carpet wishes – an autograph from their “Twilight” hunk.

“Every time I’ve done [a premiere] in New York it’s pretty crazy, but there’s absolutely no way to sign anything,” he laughed while chatting with Access Hollywood on the “Cosmopolis” red carpet. “That’s the only problem.”

Dozens of fans held up signs of support for Rob as he hit his premiere, after an appearance on Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show,” and the actor was thankful for their support.

“It’s great,” he said of the fan reaction and support. “It’s wonderful.”

Robert is proud of his new film, and he said shooting most of his scenes in a limo actually provided some comfort.

“It makes it easier… I was extremely nervous at the beginning. It’s a complicated script, so just having anything where you can have some kind of security, some kind of stability in it, just made it more comfortable for me, especially the caliber of actors and stuff,” Robert told Access. “People way more experienced than me — as long as I had my limo and I had the same seat, it was just a lot easier.”

According to fans who attended “The Daily Show” taping, Jon presented Robert with a bowl of ice cream and discussed his own previous romantic lows.

Robert Pattinson Makes Us All Winners....

A couple of weeks ago many of you sent us your number one reasons for the Rob love you hold. Your wonderful, thoughtful responses were taken and turned into Rob's 26th Birthday Post and everyone who sent in an email was also entered into a drawing.

Photobucket *No reason at all to use this gif in this post other than, why not? It's my favourite.

Goz, Kate, Tink and I were all winners after having the pleasure of reading your heart felt emails.

Robert Pattinson makes us all winners with each turn he takes in his career.

But there can only be one winner of the Cosmopolis Soundtrack and they are revealed after the cut...

Robert Pattinson's Birthday Countdown: A shout out to YOU.

A couple of weeks ago I posed a question to you all ~ Out of all the things you love about Robert Pattinson… what is your number one reason for loving Rob?

Photobucket

We knew it would be difficult. We knew you’d all have trouble answering. It’s Robert Pattinson for crying out loud. Picking ONE thing… unfair.

We were expecting you to all have trouble, but you guys didn’t just have trouble, 90% of you flat out refused to pick just one thing. And we can’t say we blame you.

Even Goz, Kate, Tink and I picked two instead of one. Well, two that actually got posted and we had about a million in the email in which we were discussing who got what! (Like we were really going to actually get our number ones!)

Photobucket

Now, because of your completely acceptable refusals to answer with one thing, we had to change up this weekend’s posts a little. Tomorrow our main man turns 26 and I’ve thrown together a little something, from all your responses, to celebrate.

But this post – this post is about you.

If I could package up all your responses and deliver them to Rob I would (can you imagine watching him smile and blush a little… you ladies know what you wrote!) The love, affection and respect you all have for him is a testament to you all. It’s not just about The Pretty, although it certainly helps, but he’s just as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside and it shows, and you see it.

Photobucket

Rob’s lucky to have such great fans, and honestly I think he knows that, it shows in the way he takes time to visit with as many people as he can on the red carpet. I know from experience that he looks each and every person he meets directly in their eyes and gives a genuine smile.

He’s not your typical Hollywood celebrity. Not even close.

And that is why we love him.

Raise your glasses to many more years watching his career grow and turn in directions we could never have expected, enjoying his unedited interviews and yes, drooling at new photo shoots.

FANtastic Robert Pattinson Encounter in Italy

Marie scanned the Italian "BIG" Magazine for us and translated the fan encounter.
Thanks Marie! :)

CAUGHT!

Arrival at 11 am in Montepulciano with Enza, the heat kills us, but we remain at the fort all day, then the turning point.

I hear that the actors are in a neighboring village and decide to go. We have almost lost hope, but here are the two main characters in a small restaurant, we can't belive the luck. In the end we decide to sit down and order something. We sit at the table with other girls, then I decided with my friend that this is an unique opportunity and we must do something ... and that's the idea:
give them a bottle of prosecco (spumante wine)!

The waiter brings the bottle at their table and I raised my hand to Robert, to let them know that this is out present and he smiles. After a few minutes two of the boys of the crew who were with them bring us some glasses with our wine, and all their table raise the glasses to us, including Rob and Kristen. After dinner, Robert gets up and comes towards us, and as a true gentleman says "We want to take a picture together?"; How do you say no to such a marvel? They are very kind, Rob is so shy, they are fantastic, I don't have words. Thanks Robert & Kristen.
