A24 Buy The North American Rights To Claire Denis' ‘The Stars At Noon’ With Robert Pattinson & Margaret Qualley

Deadline exclusive revealed today on twitter that A24 had bought the rights to Claire's 'The Stars At Noon' and that Rob's co-star would be Margaret Qualley

From Deadline
In a competitive situation on the eve of the European Film Market, A24 has swooped on North American rights to one of the hot indie pics that has just dropped at the market.

In a low-seven-figure deal, the blue-chip buyer has swooped on Claire Denis’ next movie, love story/thriller The Stars at Noon, which has her High-Life collaborator Robert Pattinson and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood breakout Margaret Qualley attached.

Set in 1984 during the Nicaraguan Revolution, the film follows a mysterious English businessman and headstrong American journalist who strike up a passionate romance. They soon become embroiled in a dangerous labyrinth of lies and conspiracies and are forced to try and escape the country, with only each other to trust and rely on.

The project is based on the 1986 novel by acclaimed U.S. writer Denis Johnson. Filmmaker Denis is adapting the novel with Lea Mysius and Andrew Litvack. It sounds like prime territory for the director after movies such as White Material and Beau Travail.

Claire Denis & Robert Pattinson Join Forces On A New Project : Denis Johnson’s ‘The Stars at Noon’

From The Film Stage:
This week marks the arrival of what will hopefully be Claire Denis’ biggest film in the U.S. to date, courtesy of the distributing powers of A24. High Life is a wondrous, daring, frightening sci-fi odyssey and marks a bold expansion of scope for the director. Considering it took years to get off the ground, one might have thought we’d wait awhile to hear of her next project, but she’s now revealed the first details of a potential new film.

Speaking at the Brattle Theatre in a conversation co-presented by Independent Film Festival Boston, she announced that she’s developing an adaptation of The Stars at Noon, the 1986 novel from the late, brilliant writer Denis Johnson. If this pairing wasn’t more of a match made in heaven, she’s also announced that her High Life star Robert Pattinson is set to lead the film. [via Jake Mulligan]
