Question of the week: Has being British given you something extra to play a vampire?

Teenfirst had a question for Rob and it wins the "Question of the week" award! Seriously :))

Has being British given you something extra to play a vampire?

I don’t know if being British helps! (Laughs) It’s weird because there were a lot of British people up for this part. The author’s choice was an English guy which was really strange. She wanted all English guys to play Americans. I think there is something about this myth in America of British people being classy.

The rest of the interview:

Was there something that you did to convince them you were the one?

I don’t know. I just went in and I had a connection with Kristen. I think it was because I so expected it to be different to how it turned out and expected the girl who played Bella to be so different to Kristen, that I was so genuinely shocked when she did her performance.

I just thought it was going to be a real damsel in distress actress. And I couldn’t pretend to be the Prince Charming to some dippy girl! Not that that is how the book is. But I thought that was how the film would turn out. And of course Kristen is tough, smart and a good actress, and so it completely changed my opinion and so I ended up playing him as a kind of a wreck. That was how that happened.

What makes Edward different from the conventional vampire?

He doesn’t have fangs. He doesn’t die in the sunlight, but he does have pale skin. I dyed my hair a bronze colour. He’s completely reluctant. Most vampires don’t want to be vampires because there’s a moral issue involved and Edward has that belief. He doesn’t kill people anymore. But at the same time, he doesn’t really know if it’s right not to kill. And he can fit in with normal society.

Did you have to go to a dark place to play the role of a vampire?

Sort of. The way I wanted to play him was more of powerlessness, like he’s a kind of helpless character. He was unconscious when he was made into a vampire. He didn’t have a choice. He woke up three days later and he has to kill people and he doesn’t know why. He finds out that he’s never going to age and he’s going to live forever, and he’s like this Superman guy but he never asked for it.

But before that night he was this normal seventeen year old and now he has to go off and kill a bunch of people and it’s all his surrogate father figure’s fault he’s like an eternal adolescent. He’s very frustrated.

Did you get to do your own stunts?

I tried to. Some of them were pretty extreme and also my stunt double looks exactly like me. The scariest one was when I run and I put my hand out to stop this car which is racing towards me. I had practiced it a bunch of times but the car is like coming at 30 miles per hour. And I was sick on the day of shooting.

I had taken antibiotics and I was really dozy and the car went off its tracks. So there I am, holding Kristen’s stunt double and my timing was off because I wasn’t feeling too good and the car like hit me in the face. Then I dropped her and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Any injures?

I didn’t have any injuries but Kristen’s double could barely walk for a like a month. I felt so bad!!

The full " I I used to sometimes just run into Kristen's bedroom naked" comment

IGN: Your mutual chemistry is crucial to the film - how did you sustain it?

Pattinson: I used to sometimes just run into Kristen's bedroom naked, just to keep shocking her… No, I don't know, it's funny because all the romantic scenes were kind of - are you better at [answering] this than I am?

Stewart: No, I'm so terrible at it…

Pattinson: It worried us because we both were wearing contact lenses and so much of it was to do with eye contact. And these lenses were like masks on our eyes –

Stewart: – like walls!

Pattinson: I was really worried that there wouldn't be anything, so it's a relief that people felt there was.

Airplanes, cabs, cars, pretty much all transportation is out eh?

Daily.co.uk has a Q&A with Rob where they ask him 3 questions. 2 of them are old news. But this one is new.

Q HAVING played a vampire are you more scared about dying?

A MAY BE I'm just paranoid. I get scared in the back of cabs now, I think I'm going to die in a cab, I get scared when I'm driving, I think I'm going to die when I'm driving, and I think I'm in a cab when I'm driving which is very unfortunate, and I'll say, "Hey can we pull over and get some cash," and then I realise I'm driving. I did that last night - it's very worrying.

Gozde: He was also convinced he was going to die on an airplane. Not good :)

Twilight - Interview "Comme au cinéma "

That bit of Twilight in French is SO HOT! We need a movie where Rob has to speak French, or maybe we don't since there will be mass heart attacks at the theatres :)

No Pirates Life for us

It seems we'll have to wait for our Depp-Pattinson wet dreams to come true for a while. The rumor about Rob possibly playing Johnny Depp/Jack Sparrow's brother in Pirates of the Caribbean 4 has been refuted by Disney. No pirate's life for Rob...

Sultry, sexy, supercharged high school vampire

Herald Ireland has a long article with Rob you can read it on their site. But I LOVED this description of Rob:

Playing the sultry, sexy, supercharged high school vampire Edward Cullen in the bloodsucker blockbuster, Twilight, has seen the young London lad go from Harry Potter supporting player to international heart-throb overnight.

BBC Radio One Interview with Robert Pattinson

Thanks to our lovely Kate for keeping on it today! HERE is the interview with Rob, it starts around 2:39:00 :-) Enjoy!

Little Ashes Love

Philippa Goslett screenwriter of 'Little Ashes' talks to themovie-fanatic.com about her favorite scenes in the film featuring Rob.

Do you have a favourite scene or moment that you were looking forward to seeing bought to life?

There was one scene which I guess as a writer I'm most proud of between Dalí and Lorca. - which turns into the sex scene with Magdalena and its the scene where, well so much of when you're writing is about subtext, and in this scene they actually say what they really think and as a writer I'm most proud of how that scene turned out. I think the actors put in the most extraordinary performance, really.

The other scene I was enormously interested to see how it would turn out is the last scene in the film. Where Rob basically had the challenge of trying to convey a huge number of very different emotions to go from being completely broken down as a character to reconstructing himself as the Dalí we know. And because of time constraints we had just one shot at it and we did it all straight through. The cameraman had the camera strapped to his body and he was following Rob around, and Rob had maybe ten minutes to pull it off and he did the most extraordinary job. So I'm amazed by that!

Rob after dinner @ Il Sole last night

This is the cutest face ever.....

Enjoying all of the benefits of his newfound superstardom, Robert Pattinson was spotted looking quite dapper as he enjoyed a swanky dinner at Il Sole restaurant.
Adding a little star power to his night, the “Twilight” star enjoyed the company of a group of friends that included “I Kissed a Girl” songstress Katy Perry.

Well, if you’ve ever tried to watch a feature length porno… it’s tough

IndieLondon
has an interview with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Here are the parts with Rob that are new:

Q. But in terms of living up to the fans’ expectations concerning the characters, you’ve clearly done that. So that must be a source of relief?

Robert Pattinson: Yeah. They’d probably kill us otherwise. They almost killed us before the thing came out!

Q. How did you work on developing the sexual tension that exists between your characters?
Robert Pattinson: I used to sometimes just run into Kristen’s bedroom naked! [laughs] To keep shocking her! But seriously, it’s funny because all the romantic scenes are all pivotal moments in the movie… but I’m never really sure how to answer that question. It was worrying, though, because we were both wearing contact lenses and so much of it is to do with visual eye contact. So, we both had these kind of masks over our eyeballs, and so it was really worrying the whole time that there wouldn’t be anything between us. It was lucky that there was, I guess.

Q. What is the fascination with showing vampires that are good? There have been a few examples lately…
Robert Pattinson: I think there are probably a lot of reasons for it. But I think today it’s a way you can present violence as something that isn’t too bad. For some reason humans are very accepting of the vampiric violence. If Luke Perry in Buffy just went around… if he was just some kid who went around killing people all the time it would have had a very different slant. But he’s a vampire and people accept it. They say: “Oh that’s fine; he kills people but he’s a vampire!” They can understand it. That’s probably the worst possible answer [laughs].

Q. There’s very much an element of sexual abstinence… it’s more about the anticipation. How essential was that?

Robert Pattinson: Well, if you’ve ever tried to watch a feature length porno… it’s tough [laughs].

Q. Has your life changed a great deal since being a part of this franchise? Do you live in the States now?

Robert Pattinson: I’m not really living there. I was, on and off, for 15 months. But I haven’t changed that much… in my head I don’t think I’ve changed. It can be strange to have people following you to your house… But the whole thing with the screaming, it seems so separate still. I can go on the Tube, for instance, and hardly anybody knows who I am. But then you can go to these premieres and people scream at you. It feels like they’ve all been paid to be there. It’s like: “Right, all the screamers, you have to be in this spot at 7.30pm!” So, it’s odd.

Q. What about when you’re walking up Oxford Street and your face goes past on a bus?

Robert Pattinson: That’s scary! It’s like being in 1984 – you see your reflection everywhere. It’s not good for someone who suffers from extreme paranoia [laughs]. Luckily, I don’t get out of the house too much.

Q. Have you ever got on a bus with your face on it?
Robert Pattinson: I think I did once. During Harry Potter, I was actually looking after someone from America and I actually had food poisoning and passed out on the bus. It was just when Harry Potter came out and this person who got me up said: “Is that you [on the poster]?” I was like, “yes, it is”.

Q. Your songs are used in the film. Were you ever intending for them to be made public?

Robert Pattinson: One of the songs was written by two friends of mine and that’s one of the reasons I liked the idea of it. I grew up with a whole bunch of musicians and so I thought it would be good for them. I don’t really have any intention of releasing an album, but I thought it would be quite good for them. I think there’s a bit of a stigma attached to actors who release music. So, maybe I’ll try and release an album anonymously or something, or wait ‘til I’m unemployable.

Q. Do you still stay in touch with the local theatre group you started out with?

Robert Pattinson: The theatre company was just a place I went to because a lot of the pretty girls went there. That was the only reason I went and I worked backstage. I only started acting when all the good people left and I was the only one tall enough to play the lead [laughs]. But I guess I did learn quite a lot from it. It didn’t really make me decide to become an actor. But it definitely helped me out. I got my agent from there and I definitely wouldn’t be an actor if I hadn’t gone there.

Q. Are you worried that a role like this may typecast you in terms of what you might be offered in the future?

Robert Pattinson: I guess it makes it a little scarier to decide what your next job is. But if you choose carefully and you try to do good movies, then people don’t care. Hopefully I won’t get typecast.

What makes book adaptations so interesting to watch?

Hottest guy of 2008 -Damn straight he is!

Cosmopolitan named Rob as one of the hottest guys of 2008.

OK! Magazine has named him the hottest Brit. (Although they say he is dating "she who shall not be named" and called SM Stefani they at least got this right : His James Dean-ish persona and chiseled features are sure to only get better with age!)

There are still 13 days left in 2008 and Rob already made 3 lists including MTV :) And all we can say is "Damn straight!"
