Robert Pattinson itunes Celebrity Playlist

Below is Rob's playlist and in his words why he chose each of these songs. Gosh he is an insightful one isn't he?

"C-Jam Blues" by Oscar Peterson: "What I learned how to play blues piano riffs from. Peterson was the best."

"Soldier Sender" by John Lee Hooker: "If I could have a song as a wife..."

"Soft" by Kings of Leon: "I've always thought that I really relate to the lyrics of this even though I don't really know what they are. I love the singer's enunciation in all their songs. They are pretty much the only modern band I can say I am a fan of."

"Cold Sweat" by James Brown: "This song hits me just as hard every time I've heard it since I was a little kid and I listened to James Brown on the way to school."

"Dean" by Terry Reid: "I love Terry Reid. I love the schizophrenic decisions he makes towards the end of this song when he's choosing what notes to sing.Terry Reid was just one of those guys like James Brown who when they got into a groove, it just seemed like they'd want to keep singing the same line, let alone the same song, all night."

"Stepping Out Queen, Pt. II" by Van Morrison: "Another guy who has such a visionary and unique take on what structure in songwriting is, what singing is, and what can be achieved emotioanlly and spiritually through music."

"Lengths" by The Black Keys: "Another new band I like. This is a beautiful song. I like how it's produced. This whole album is great."

"One Mo'gin" by D'Angelo: "I love D'Angelo. I used to always try and sing like him when I was younger and embarrassingly fail. I like his pronunciation when he sings. I think when you try and write lyrics and you think that there is no way the listener will figure out what you're saying or what you mean, you write much more honestly. I think."

"Blue Monday People" by Curtis Mayfield: "Got inspired by putting D'Angelo on. This whole album is amazing. The production on it is incredible. A really interesting album which not a lot of people listen to. Don't know why."

"Brown Trout Blues" by Johnny Flynn: "I grew up with some amazing musicians in London who are still my friends. Marcus Foster, Bobby Long and Sam Bradley are recording their albums now, but Johnny Flynn completed his one a while ago. I just saw him play in L.A. and he was incredible. But he's always been incredible so I can't say I was surprised. Get this album it's great and no one else does music like him at all."

"Ambulance Blues" by Neil Young: "One of the most moving songs ever written or recorded. I used to listen to the line 'I guess I'll call it sickness gone' on repeat for hours when I wanted to try and write something."

"A Whiter Shade of Pale" by King Curtis: "Just a beautiful song. Reminds me of the end of Withnail and I."

"Ruby's Arms" by Tom Waits: "My favorite Tom Waits song. I cry almost every time I hear it. Plays over an amazing scene in one of my favorite movies too - Prenom Carmen."

"(First) Essay for Orchestra, Op. 12" by Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Yoel Levi: "This song just hurts, it's so beautiful."

"T.B. Sheets" by Van Morrison: "Only Vam Morrison can do a performance like this. No one else has come close."

To find the rest go to itunes store home page, on the left side there is a drop down with "genre", select soundtrack. when you are at the soundtrack page look on the left and scroll down for celebrity playlists.

OMG! Ambulance Blues is one of my favorite songs and T.B. Sheets also Ruby Arms. And Caleb's voice haunts me it's so hypnotic to me.
Could Rob be anymore soulful?
I think hearing the books and music he likes, it's almost too much for me. I thinks it's better I don't know.
We could talk hours on these songs alone...

More ammunition for my beliefs in reincarnation. Sorry of I offend.

So this is why he mumbles while singing.. interesting (saying it like the Church lady n_n)

I love this man, he is not only making good movies, but he is also making me research dinosaurs, books and now music. He's the whole package. =)

PS; Whoever increased the font size, has saved be from a Botox injection between my eyes from squinting.

thank you!

Estrella- I was thinking the same thing last week! I wonder if anyone has done an sales analysis of everything Rob has mentioned as a favorite (from Music to books, to foods) If anything he could be broadening a few horizons with the non main stream authors he reads..

You guys I used "Ruby's Arms" as a song that I modeled my male and female protagonist in my book when he leaves. He even takes something of hers when he leaves,to remember her by, except he leaves on a very foggy morning not in the rain...
This is too much for me the coincidence because when I wrote this story Rob was always the male protagonist, in my mind and now I know it's one of his favorite songs.
I'm crying right now, the Ruby's Arms coincidence is too much. I'm gonna leave for awhile to gather myself. I'll see ya in a couple of hours.

Rob's taste in music is amazing. God, I just want one lunch date, just one to plumb the depths of that brilliant mind of his.

Van Morrison was in town here recently. I've loved Van Morrison ever since I was 19. My boyfriend in college at the time was a radio DJ and we spent hours in the mixing booth going through tons of old vinyl. Those were the days....

Rob reminds me of them so much with all his song selections. I love Curtis Mayfield!

Tess- I think its amazing. I mean, I've got to be honest and say that thanks to Rob I've started listening to Van Morrison and totally loved it. I might have never heard him otherwise. The same goes for almost all of this songs and groups.

And I agree with you, he is very deep. What my mom would call an old soul.

Tess - I constantly have to remind myself that he is only 22 years old!

You know that line in Twilight where Edward plays the piano for Bella and she says something like, "I feel so insignificant"?

Well, that line definitely applies here (for me anyway).

I just can't believe how amazing he is...

Hi Dani, thanks for posting this. Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I'm also amazed that Rob's only 22. I'm learning a lot from him. He's introduced me to books I'd never have read before, and the kind of music I didn't think I'd enjoy.

Truly Trixie - Beautiful wrapping aside.. this is one amazing person, who I'd love to know.

Still shaking my head that listens to Sam Barber.. I think you'd really have to be seriously exposed to the classics to get there. 22? are we sure?? ha ha

Kings of Leon, Black Keys.. yes, they are two of my favorite modern bands.. But John Lee Hooker? Really? He's one of my favorite musicians in the history of the world! The first time I heard a song from him, I cried all night thinking in the riffs and the soul of his music! Can't believe Rob likes him! I'm crying again!

I'm better. Caleb has said "Soft" is a song about erectile dysfunction.

Soft is basically a song about sex.
Caleb's lyrics are, I'd come to your party but basically I'm soft.
Your perfect nipples...
I love Rob's sense of humor.
You know he knew they lyrics before he put it on his list.

"I feel so insignificant"?
This is what I was thinking when I try to find some of the songs online.

I bet his parents are great people and the whole family are very into music. It has to be, I can't believe that he is only 22 and so deep.

The pictures from the previous post are amazing, he is beautiful and as Bella said "There is a lot more to him than that","...more inbelievable behind the face", you can see it in his eyes....no wonder why people keep calling him Edward.

MiCh said...

I loved Jackson's playlist too!
The !!! (chk-chk-chk), yeah, they're absolutely amazing! And Nikki has a song for Michael Angarano, hahaha.. but also a Van Morrison's :) And Rachelle, woo, she's a complex woman.. It's funny how the playlists are exactly like the owners :)

I now feel the need to do some serious music downloading.

Are we really sure he's 22? Really? He must've grown up in a house filled with music, which is a wonderful thing. I too have started listening to Van Morrison since Rob "introduced" me to him.

Love it... gonna go catch up on all the posts after a couple of days out of the office and away from the web.

Dani - hope you're having a fab birthday.

Okay I just had a chance to really read his words about his favorite bands and songs.

Wow this guy never ceases to amaze. How can someone so young be so insightful and deep. I mean he describes the songs in such an honest and almost reverent way that is just mind blowing.

I too felt a little insignificant reading all that. Makes me proud to have such a positive site here for Rob promotion and love. Goz I too feel like this one might be a little too deep for me, love from afar is a good idea.

Does this not explain so much or what? The mumbling in songs how protective he is of those lyrics and feelings. His devotion to his craft how he truely gives himself over completely to the project in spite of his Heath mentally or physically. This one is going great places. People like this really make a difference in the business, he is bringing a humility and passion that has long since been lacking in this industry.

Alright my appreciative Rob rant is over.

Gozde said...

Yep yep and yep Dani. The mumbling is finally explained and every single explanation for every song is just so deep. God are we obsessing and over analyzing? Nope not at all :-)

Dani said...

Oh no Goz we are Robsessing and finally have some answers regarding his fabulous outlook on life and music. Good golly miss molly he is wonderful.

kristen said...

Dani - Well said. He is just an unbelievable person and talent. He puts so much passion and effort into everything he does. It's really inspiring.

Mich - I also love The Black Keys. I've been a fan of theirs for about a year now, and when I heard a couple of months ago that Rob liked Kings of Leon, I totally thought, "Oh, I bet he would like The Black Keys too"

Girls - listen to "Your Touch" by The Black Keys and tell me you don't think of Rob :)

Tess said...

Dani- Your last post was fantastic.

You pretty much summed it up completely.
