Robert Pattinson talks Water For Elephants in UK Empire

Robert Pattinson's quote:

“Just as he’s about to take his final exams, both his parents die in a car crash,” explains the Twilight star. “Within a couple of months his entire life has disappeared. So he basically gets on a train — any old train — to try and find a job. And it ends up being a circus train. He sees Marlena within, I guess, the first day, and it’s one of the biggest reasons he wants to stay and become a part of this world.”

Reese Witherspoon talks Robert Pattinson and Water For Elephants

The Daily Record spoke to Reese Witherspoon about her film, How Do You Know, and Robert Pattinson came up in the conversation:

She's also appearing with Robert Pattinson in Water For Elephants.

And Reese, a huge fan of the Twilight films, is amused that the Brit is now a moody vampire pin-up.

"It's so funny because he's really not a bad boy. He's just a great guy and he looks very different in our film," said Reese.

MTV wonders about the success of Robert Pattinson in Water For Elephants

Photobucket

From MTV.com "big-screen pairings we're most looking forward to checking out this year":

Robert Pattinson & Reese Witherspoon in "Water for Elephants"

Sure, RPattz will once again share the screen opposite Kristen Stewart in 2011, but he's been mining the same limited "Twilight" material for a while now, and we're keen to see how he manages when his character has more emotional motivation than simply protecting his beloved. (Tink: *bitchface* Edward is way deeper than this...or am I reading too much fanfiction?)

While we enjoyed his turn in last year's romantic drama "Remember Me" (Tink: YAY :) MTV "got it"!), a performance opposite the Oscar-winning Witherspoon in "Elephants" will mark Pattinson's biggest opportunity yet to establish himself as a formidable talent. (YodaTink: establish himself he will)

The first trailer mostly showcased RPattz in smoldering default mode (Tink: hey! Not the worst thing in the world!). Can the 24-year-old Brit step it up? (Tink: yes.) Can his chemistry with Witherspoon begin to compare, in fan's eyes, with the Bella-Edward-Jacob love triangle? (Tink: leave Jacob out of this and yes.) Answers will arrive with the film's release in April. (Tink: the answers are here NOW. While Edward is love, Rob is more than just Edward. Robert Pattinson will prevail!)

Let's remember how Rob is more than just Edward.

Robert Pattinson in Entertainment Weekly's online Water For Elephants feature

Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon star in Water for Elephants

Witherspoon, who portrays horse trainer Marlena in the film adaptation of Sara Gruen's 1930s-set best-seller (out April 22), had stiff competition for the spotlight, seeing as she's starring opposite a Twilight vampire. ''I've never seen anything like it,'' she says of the hoopla over Pattinson, who plays the circus vet. ''There were 200 girls standing on the edge of the set screaming. It reminds me of when Leo was in Titanic and he couldn't go anywhere without screaming girls.'' —Benjamin Svetkey

Someone's nosing in on Bella's territory

Even with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson on board, the biggest star in Water for Elephants is the one who plays Rosie, the 9,000-pound pachyderm. But it seems that even the elephant was on Team Edward. —BS

People.com talks about Robert Pattinson and Water For Elephants

PEOPLE.com posted a feature about Robert Pattinson that coincides with their fabulous "First Look" spread. The magainze is on stands now! The cover is the 1/2 your size issue.

From PEOPLE.com:

For Robert Pattinson, it was the elephant that sealed the deal.

The Twilight star, 24, was on the fence about taking the role of Jacob, a veterinary student who joins a traveling circus in the upcoming Depression-era romantic drama Water for Elephants – until the actor met Tai, his 42-year-old, nearly 9000-lb. costar.

"Rob was non-committal until he saw the elephant," recalls the film's animal coordinator Paul 'Sled' Reynolds. "After he met Tai, he knew he wanted to do this movie. He absolutely adored that elephant." (Tink: too cute...)

PEOPLE has a first look at some of the film's rich images – and Pattinson's near smooch with Tai.

The adaptation of Sara Gruen's bestselling novel, which arrives in theaters on April 22, tells the story of a love triangle that develops between Jacob, Reese Witherspoon's Marlena, who is the show's bottle-blonde star performer, and her husband August, the circus's abusive ringleader, played by Oscar-winning Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz.

Chemistry Lesson
While it was important to the filmmakers that Pattinson bond with Tai, their chief concern was making sure sparks flew between him and Witherspoon, 34.

"I saw early on that those two had a real on-screen chemistry," the film's director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) tells PEOPLE. "There was just this thing that happens between the two of them when they are together as those two characters that was very exciting."

A Sensitive Guy
Lawrence became convinced that Pattinson could pull off the challenging role of Jacob shortly after a meeting with the British heartthrob to discuss the part.

"When I sat down with Rob, I found that despite his success, there was a real sense of humility with him," says Lawrence. "I found that he was kind of uncomfortable in his own skin, and maybe even uncomfortable with everything that was happening to him. Rob is a very sensitive guy who very much loves animals." (Tink: could he BE more adorable?)

Adds Lawrence, "I found that, wow, this guy kind of already is Jacob." (Tink: still weird to hear him called that lol)
