Robert Pattinson's 'The Lost City Of Z' Gets An April 21st 2017 US Release Date

Robert Pattinson's 'The Lost City Of Z' Gets An April 21st 2017 US Release Date

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B, the Amazon Studios/Bleecker Street film makes its world premiere Saturday at the New York Film Festival, where it's the closing-night movie.

Amazon Studios and Bleecker Street have settled on a release date for the Charlie Hunnam starrer The Lost City of Z.

The film, directed by James Gray, will open in select theaters on April 21, 2017, and then expand. News of the release date comes on the eve of the movie's world premiere at the 2016 New York Film Festival, where it's the closing-night movie.

Amazon's original-movie division beat out other rivals in picking up rights to The Lost City of Z in September. It then partnered with Andrew Karpen's Bleecker Street on the movie's theatrical rollout. Amazon's Bob Berney will spearhead the marketing and distribution of The Lost City of Z alongside the Bleecker Street team.

The film, which also stars Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Angus Macfadyen, is produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B.

Set in 1925 and based on David Grann's best-selling book of the same name, the true-life drama centers on British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett (Hunnam), who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon. Gray penned the adapted script.

Sierra/Affinity is repping the film internationally.

Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner produced Lost City of Z via Plan B alongside Dale Armin Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Executive producers include Marc Butan and Mark Huffam.

Robert Pattinson's 'The Lost City Of Z' Will Have It's World Premiere At The New York Film Festival

Exciting new today, The Lost City of Z will have it's world premiere on Saturday October 15th as the closing film of the New York Film Festival.

From Filmlinc.org

The Lost City of Z, written and directed by James Gray (The Immigrant, Two Lovers), will close the 54th New York Film Festival. The film, based on journalist David Grann’s nonfiction book of the same name, will make its world premiere at the festival’s final gala screening on Saturday, October 15.

James Gray’s emotionally and visually resplendent epic tells the story of Lieutenant Colonel Percy Fawcett (a remarkable Charlie Hunnam), the British military-man-turned-explorer whose search for a lost city deep in the Amazon grows into an increasingly feverish, decades-long magnificent obsession that takes a toll on his reputation, his home life with his wife (Sienna Miller) and children, and his very existence. Gray and cinematographer Darius Khondji cast quite a spell, exquisitely pitched between rapture and dizzying terror. Also starring Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland, The Lost City of Z represents a form of epic storytelling that has all but vanished from the landscape of modern cinema, and a rare level of artistry.

“James Gray is one of the finest filmmakers we have,” said New York Film Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones. “Each of his movies is so beautifully wrought, visually and emotionally, but The Lost City of Z represents something new. It’s a true epic, spanning two continents and three decades, and it’s a genuine vision of the search for sublimity.”

“It’s truly a dream come true for me to have The Lost City of Z selected for the closing night of the New York Film Festival,” said Gray. “I couldn’t be more honored that the film’s world premiere will be in my hometown, a city I still love above all others.”

Gray’s previous film, 2014’s The Immigrant, was an official selection of the 51st New York Film Festival.

The Lost City of Z is produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Anthony Katagas, and Dale Armin Johnson, and is executive produced by Brad Pitt and Marc Butan.

Tickets for the 54th New York Film Festival will go on sale September 11.

From Variety
Pan-European major Studiocanal has acquired James Gray’s anticipated “Lost City of Z” with Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Tom Holland, in multiple territories.

Studiocanal will distribute the action-adventure film in France, the U.K., Germany and Australia/New Zealand.

Sold by Sierra/Affinity, “Lost City of Z” is produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner via Plan B Entertainment along with Anthony Katagas and Dale Johnson.

Based on David Grann’s 2009 novel, “Lost City of Z” follows the adventures of Percy Fawcett, a soldier and explorer who embarked with his son on an expedition to find the mythical kingdom of El Dorado in the Amazon jungles of Brazil and disappeared.

The ambitious pic marks Gray’s follow up to “The Immigrant,” his 2013 period drama with Marion Cotillard which world premiered in competition at Cannes. “Lost City of Z,” however, is not expected to play in Cannes since it’s still in early post and will not be completed in time for the festival.

MadRiver Pictures’ Marc Butan is exec producing with MICA’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray. MICA Entertainment is financing.

“Lost City of Z” shot in Belfast, Northern Ireland and in Colombia. Sierra/Affinity unveiled a promo at the EFM.

Paramount Pictures will release the film in the U.S..
Thanks Nancy

James Gray Talks About Robert Pattinson's 'The Lost City Of Z' Going Into Pre-Production

James Gray Talks About Robert Pattinson's 'The Lost City Of Z' Going Into Pre-Production

UPDATE: The Film Stage also spoke to James Gray and got even more info about Pre-production and principle photography. Scroll down to read.

Director James Gray was interviewed by Awards Circuit and they asked him about progress on The Lost City of Z. I think his reply will make you pretty excited!

Are you ready for jungle Rob?

 photo TLCOZ.jpg

On if the long developing project The Lost City of Z is finally next for him

JG – Yeah, that’s going into preproduction in a matter of four weeks or five weeks now, before I have to go off and do that. I’m very excited, it’s hopefully the movie that, you know, bridges the step between the films I’ve made which are very personal and small, and what will be a different chapter in my life, because it’s a much bigger film.

UPDATE:
From  The Film Stage:
Before things wrap up here, very quick: Lost City of Z is as close as we’re hearing?

Z? Yes, absolutely. I’ve been on a scout. Pre-production should start sometime in the first week of June. I’m extremely excited about it. It’s very different from anything I’ve done — and yet, of course, the same. I have very, very high hopes for it. Principal photography, I believe, will start on August 8, although it depends on when Charlie Hunnam will finish King Arthur, which is what he’s doing now; if that finishes on schedule, that’s when I will begin. It shoots in the U.K. and Columbia, probably.

What feeling do you have when on the cusp of starting a production? Is there a lot of anxiety, or is it mostly pure anticipation?

Well, it’s almost exclusively terror. It’s funny: I don’t actually derive much pleasure from making a movie. I derive a lot of pleasure from having made a film. I’m very excited; it’s going to be a huge challenge. But I’m very scared, and I’m under no illusions that I’m going to go to the jungle and have a great time and it’s going to have a party. I mean, it’s going to be an epic struggle, and I’m going to try and do my very best. I have many, many ideas. The project’s been gestating for a long time, and, in some respects, that’s a challenge in and of itself, because you have many, many ideas, and you want to make sure the project has a unity and a singularity and a uniqueness and a consistency. So, if it’s gestating for a long time, you worry that you won’t have that.

Well, we’ll see. But, judging by your track record, I’m not too worried.

I’m glad you’re not.

Charlie Hunnam Replaces Benedict Cumberbatch & Joins Robert Pattinson In 'The Lost City Of Z'

The Wrap is reporting that Benedict Cumberbatch will be replaced by Charlie Hunnam in The Lost City of Z and that production is slated to begin this summer.

 photo TLCOZ.jpg

From The Wrap:

Charlie Hunnam will replace Benedict Cumberbatch in James Gray‘s “Lost City of Z,” which also stars Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller.

Cumberbatch was forced to drop out of the project due to Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” and now “Sons of Anarchy” alum Hunnam will play Col. Percival Fawcett in the adaptation of David Grann’s acclaimed bestseller.

MICA Entertainment has come on board to finance the movie, which Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing via Plan B Entertainment along with Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Marc Butan is executive producing, as are MICA’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray.

Sierra/Affinity will continue to handle international sales of the title at this year’s European Film Market. CAA represents the domestic rights to the film. Production is slated to start this summer.

“Lost City of Z” follows Percy Fawcett, a British colonial who disappeared in the 1920s while searching for a mythical city in the Amazon jungles of Brazil that he believed he discovered on a prior expedition.
