Translation Thanks to @emily8009

In three years, British Robert Pattinson has thanks to the Twilight films gone from an unemployed actor to an idol to female fans everywhere. DN Sunday´s Maria Lindholm was the only Swedish person to interview with the star for his new movie.

The soon to be 25-year-old Robert Pattinson sits slumped on a folding high chair in a smallroom in the luxury Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. Four people from the film company are in the same room – to film the interview and to make sure we stick to the outlined time – standing outside the door are Pattinson’s bodyguard Dean and his manager Nick Frenkel.

Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Walz are at the same hotel, but it is obvious who is lashed upon. Even if Robert Pattinson hasn´t been a household name more than three years, and in contrast to Hollywood’s A-list names such as Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt he has no long film resume or critics praise to brag about but there is no movie star that is currently followed by an equally large army of feverishly passionate, obsessive fans. (Kate:I'm sure that should say ROBsessive ;-P)

Today Robert Pattinson, dressed in gray T-shirt, rumpled blue blazer, beige baggy chinos, and boots, to give interviews for a completely different movie – “Water for Elephants”. Since the actor is known for having large music and literary interests, I have brought with me a Swedish classic in English (Pär Lagerkvist’s “The Dwarf”, required reading for young people with a modicum litteraturpretentioner).

It’s written by a Swedish Nobel Prize winner, is anything for you?
- Yes, it seems pretty amazing! I have never heard of him? I´ll read it tonight, perfect, “he says, and lights up after carefully reading the back.

Robert Pattinson
Elephants and Women

On the 20th April we will see Robert in cinemas with Reese Witherspoon in Francis Lawrence's "Water For Elephants". The movie was shot last July.

You seem to be very close to Reese Witherspoon...?

I've learned a lot thanks to her, she's very patient and she's a huge actress, she's got much more experience than me so it's normal that I took time to listen to her. Without her patience filming wouldn't have gone as well! We laughed a lot, Reese has a great sense of humour, the atmosphere was serious but also relaxed. We stayed friends and we see each other sometimes. It's a very important meeting in my career. Apparently she was already a fan of the Twilight Saga so she didn't have negative thinking about my job. I hope we'll work together again soon.

It even appears that you were very close on the set...

Rumors again, press always thinks that I'm dating every actress I'm acting with. If I seduce every girl everytime I make a movie I won't have lots of girl friends. (laughs). I think that with "Water for Elephants" it's because of the love story, it shows that we are credible! Now that we shoot again for Twilight nobody will talk anymore about a relationship with Reese. You'll see it will be the same things with another movie. I'm much more wise than people think. It's the Edward Cullen effect. (Kate: And the Pattinson Effect ? LOL)

It seems that you're more at ease with elephants than with women?

Laughs. That's not exactly the situation! Actually I've done a photoshoot for Details Magazine with several naked women, during 12 hours. For many boys it could be seen as a dream come true but it was very embarrassing! Whereas elephants are really something else, for the movie we were with elephants, and one of them picked me up with its trunk, it was the most magical thing that has happened to me! But I don't get the link between elephants and naked women. It's not very gentlemanly! Elephants are a child dream, and girls are just something else.

Robert Pattinson on Star Zoom (French Mag) Cover- New? Interview

I'm not sure how 'new' the interview is but there are some very cute quotable Rob moments in it.

Since there aren't any new pictures in the mag scans I'm just posting the translated interview.

We know you as a very shy person. Aren’t you too stressed out about the millions of fans who have eyes only for you?
Yes, but as everybody would, I think. Sometimes is embarrassing. But I’m aware that I’m playing some sort of ideal man. I try to take it to any opposite view, to break this image of the perfect man or to be more relaxed over the whole pressure. Edward is a very lonely person. At first he doesn’t want any relationship with Bella and doesn’t want to hurt her. This is more emphasized in the book that in the film.

Does all the madness around you make you afraid?
I especially fear the extreme behavior of some fans. Once, a mom made me hold her baby and pretend that I was going to bite her head, so she could be immortal too, like me. Not to mention dozens of girls who want me to bite her neck! People sometimes try to ambush me and try to figure out how long I’ll stay in a hotel, waiting for me in the halls, shouting as soon as I appear. Some fans just want to touch my hair, others want to kiss me. It’s very surreal.
Fortunately, most of the time, it’s not as scary. People project their ideas of the characters and think sometimes that we are them, when we’re not.

You play a character who is very handsome, but at the same time he’s scary. Is it hard to play that?
Yes, playing a vampire and keeping the power of attraction is very difficult. I tend to wrap my head too much around too many things. I’m a very stressful person. On my first movie, The Goblet of Fire, I was so sick I threw up all the time. All the time I was told: “Don’t do it like this! don’t do it like this!”. In New Moon, I’m a lot less stressed. Fortunately! I’m starting to get used to it.

Did you know about the books by Stephenie before being offered the role?
No. I just read he script, I didn’t know there were books. The only reason I went to audition was because I saw Into The Wild with Kristen and became a fan (laughs). I was a little embarrassed when I got the role. In the book, Edward is a mystery and he represents everything a perfect man should be. And I felt like a complete idiot auditioning for that. It’s rather cheeky when you think about it. But I don’t regret anything.

Thanks to TwilightPoison the source for the cover scan and interview translation. You can go HERE to see the entire set of scans. They have a cute interview with Chris Weitz up and will have the other interviews from this magazine with Kristen and Taylor up later so check back with them if you're interested.
