AWARD SEASON: Robert Pattinson makes frontrunner list for Best Actor Oscar nominations in The Hollywood Reporter

Oh. Ok.

 photo calm3.gif

I'm going to stay calm. I am.

The Hollywood Reporter critic, Scott Feinberg, keeps a running list of potential Oscar nominees during award season and ROBERT PATTINSON has gathered some nice steam....

 photo Screen Shot 2017-08-18 at 2.52.10 PM.png

From THR:
The listings below reflect how The Hollywood Reporter's awards columnist Scott Feinberg believes the Oscar nominations would look if the race ended today. They are formulated using a combination of personal impressions (from advance screenings), publicly available information (release dates, genres, talent rosters and teasers/trailers often offer valuable clues), historical considerations (how other films with similar pedigrees have resonated), precursor awards (some groups have historically correlated with the Academy more than others) and consultations with industry insiders (including fellow members of the press, awards strategists, filmmakers and voters).

 photo Robert_Pattinson___Ben_Safdie_Joshua_Safdie__the_Four_Seasons_Hotel_on_Aug_2__2017_in_Los_Angeles._Rebeccca_Cabage__2_.jpg

Excerpt from Rolling Stone'Good Time': How Two Brothers Scuzzed Up Robert Pattinson and Made a Gritty Classic:
Robert Pattinson can't explain it – he just knew.

It was early 2015, and the Twilight star was now three years removed from Edward Cullen, the iconic vampire heartthrob who made the British actor's name but had also painted him into a corner. Looking to break free, the then-29-year-old star began seeking out daring dramas and working with filmmakers like David Cronenberg, David Michôd, Werner Herzog and James Gray. He was determined to prove that he wasn't just a YA pinup. And in the midst of that reinvention, Pattinson stumbled upon a promotional still for Heaven Knows What, a gritty, unsparing 2014 New York indie about a homeless woman ravaged by heroin addiction.

"It really struck me," he says softly, sitting in a Beverly Hills hotel suite, remembering the moment. "You normally see really striking imagery in a lot of European movies. But it's rare to see that coming out of American independents."

Pattinson knew nothing about the movie – he hadn't even seen a trailer. Nor had he seen any of the previous films by its directors, the brothers Josh and Benny Safdie. But, looking at that image, he knew: He had to be in business with these filmmakers. So Pattinson emailed them.

"When I like something, I get unbelievably enthusiastic," the actor explains with a warm, ingratiating smile. "The first email I sent was like, ‘I'm completely certain that we're supposed to do something together.' And they're like, ‘Have you seen any of our stuff?' I said, ‘Nope, don't need to see it. I know.'"

Excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter, Why 'Good Time' Made Robert Pattinson "More Confident in My Body":
Demi Moore, Chloe Sevigny, Peter Sarsgaard, Ashley Benson, A$AP Ferg and Fat Jew joined Josh and Benny Safdie at the Tuesday night bash, complete with Sprite bottles and White Castle sliders.

Robert Pattinson had a Good Time with directors Josh and Benny Safdie at the A24 title’s New York premiere Tuesday night.

The drama stars Pattinson as a small-time criminal who attempts to race against the clock to break his brother out of prison after a botched bank robbery.
After shooting the adrenaline-filled film, “I’m more confident in my body than I used to be,” Pattinson told The Hollywood Reporter at the SVA Theatre. “It’s something about growing up as an English person — you’re very physically inhibited. I’ve done a few movies where I’ve actively tried to be more physical and break through my levels of inhibition and self-righteousness. It’s difficult. But as soon as I saw their last movie [Heaven Knows What] — it’s so kinetic — I just knew I wanted to do something with them."

Excerpt from Variety, Robert Pattinson: ‘Good Time’ ‘Helped Me Become a Better Actor’:
Robert Pattinson is earning rave reviews for his intense and electrifying performance in A24’s crime thriller, “Good Time.” Under the helm of directors and brothers Josh and Benny Safdie, the “Twilight” star hides his dashing good looks to portray a grimy, bleached blond, goatee-sporting, crook from Queens, New York, who embarks on a mission to bail his mentally impaired brother (played by co-director Benny) out of prison after a failed robbery attempt. While taking on the demanding role, Pattinson said the experience has helped him mature into a commanding actor.

“I think I’m more confident now; this was a challenging role and I learned a lot about my abilities as an actor,” Pattinson told Variety at the film’s New York premiere on Tuesday evening, held at the School of Visual Arts Theatre. “Every single time I get to do another movie, I get a little more confident. You always want to grow in some way and challenge yourself. I feel like this one has helped me become a better actor.”

Critics have no doubt that Pattinson has developed into a masterful dramatic actor. He and the “Good Time” creators received a rousing six-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival last May where the movie first screened for an audience. The picture — out in theaters on Friday — currently holds a 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The writing in this — the dialogue felt so real and different,” explained the 31-year-old British star on the red carpet. “It’s set in New York and I’ve been here in New York a million times, but it just felt alien to me. There was something different and original about the characters and the story. I immediately knew the world of the performance that I wanted to do and I knew the energy I wanted when I saw Josh and Benny’s work. This was special.”

Excerpt from WWD, Robert Pattinson Went Unrecognized While Filming ‘Good Time’:
Ever since his teen heartthrob days, Robert Pattinson has rarely been able to escape the prying eyes of fans and photographers. So it came as quite a shock to him that he was not once recognized while filming his latest picture “Good Time” on the streets of New York.

“We were shooting so much outside that I literally could not afford for anybody to find out we were shooting a movie the whole time and no one ever did,” the 31-year-old actor related at the film’s New York premiere Tuesday. “After three months of being in New York, literally not a single person even said ‘hi.’”

His role as Connie Nikas, a gritty Queens-born miscreant whose protective impulses toward a mentally challenged brother (Ben Safdie), propels the 100-minute narrative like a runaway F train.

In spite of the character’s shaggy haircut and goatee, Pattinson attributed his ability to go incognito to the attitude he projected while in character, which continued even when cameras weren’t rolling: “If you put a very aggressive energy into the world, people don’t really come up to you.”

Robert Pattinson Miami Beach Round Up including a New Fan Video

Updated to add a mention in an article from the Hollywood Reporter...

Before her show, the beguiling singer — who admittedly has still gotten more press stateside for her relationship with Robert Pattinson than for her eerily beautiful vocals and breathtaking videos — joined ubercurators Hans Ulrich Obrist and L.A.-based artist Alex Israel for a conversation as part of Surface’s Design Dialogues series, held at the newly opened Edition Hotel in Miami Beach. Before a rapt audience (including Pattinson, who hunkered down in a doorway despite the front-row seats cleared for him), the singer opened up about growing up in Gloucestershire, her cabaret beginnings at The Box, her recent Jimmy Fallon performance and her ad for Google Glass.

New fan video with Robert Pattinson at the FKA Twigs show last night...

And a small mention in a Vogue Culture article...

 photo RobPattinsonMiami2-1.jpg

Yesterday afternoon, in one of the newly minted Edition hotel’s copious and cavernous public spaces, über-curator Hans Ulrich Obrist hosted a conversation with Los Angeles–based artist Alex Israel and musician-of-the-moment FKA twigs, who was in Miami Beach to celebrate the end of the American part of her tour. The talk, organized by art world spark plug Bettina Korek and attended by China Chow and twigs’s boyfriend Robert Pattinson, among others, spanned topics from Instagram (twigs hailed the app as a tool to “immediately understand someone’s aesthetic”) to pop music (Israel described how the constant churning out of radio hits “makes [him] very hopeful for the future of creativity”).

....

Twigs cozied up to beau Pattinson, prompting the sighs and little utterances of “cute” from several observers. But they were the quietest corner of the house party: Eventually, the owner of the mansion arrived and the revelry was shut down.

David Cronenberg Talks About Casting Robert Pattinson + An Oscar-Qualifying Run For 'Maps To The Stars'

David Cronenberg Talks About Casting Robert Pattinson + An Oscar-Qualifying Run For 'Maps To The Stars'

You've got to love David and his love for Rob. He spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at NYFF over the weekend and spoke about how he had no problem looking past Rob's Twilight past when casting him and Thank God for us he did.

 photo Robenberg-2.gif photo Robenberg-3.gif
 photo youdoit.gif

"David Cronenberg's Hollywood-centered family melodrama Maps to the Stars marks the veteran director's second straight film with Twilight alum Robert Pattinson after 2012's Cosmopolis.

Although many still see Pattinson as vampire heartthrob Edward Cullen, Cronenberg told The Hollywood Reporter he can easily look past that.

"I have no problem ignoring that," the director said. "Of course I watched the first Twilight movie just to see what he was like and get a feel for his screen presence and so on and so on. … By the time you're on the set, it's just the two of you making movies. You forget your own movies too."

Speaking to THR ahead of Saturday night's New York Film Festival screening of Maps, Cronenberg explained that he wanted to work with Pattinson (who wasn't in attendance at the New York event) on this movie not only because the director thinks of him as "a wonderful actor" and they "had a good time on Cosmopolis," but also because it provided the opportunity for Pattinson to participate in the sort of ensemble film he'd told Cronenberg he wanted to do.

"He told me that he was scared about Cosmopolis because he had not really wanted to do a movie where he was the lead and had the whole movie on his shoulders," the director explained. "And of course in that movie he's in almost every scene. He said, 'One day I'd love to do an ensemble piece where there are a lot of good actors and [he's] just one of them.' "

When Cronenberg was putting together Maps, he thought of his Cosmopolis star."

ALSO some fantastic news about Maps To The Stars. While chatting to Vulture David revealed that Maps would be getting an Oscar-qualifying run.

 photo nahnahnahnah.gif

" “They’re going to do a qualifying run — I think it’s in New York and L.A. — so that it will legitimately qualify for the Golden Globes and the Oscars,” said Cronenberg, who admitted, “There was a lot of discussion. You know, they really felt that they could do a better job releasing the film in 2015, in January or February. And then, of course, the discussion was, ‘Yeah, but wouldn’t it be great if Julianne got an Oscar nomination, since she won Best Actress at Cannes?’”

A strong recent showing at the Toronto Film Festival convinced Focus World to put the film out this year, though the distributor hasn’t committed to funding a costly Oscar campaign. “You know, I think the movie will find its way regardless,” said Maps screenwriter Bruce Wagner. “It already has.” "

USA Today and The Hollywood Reporter Premiere interviews with Robert Pasttinson

USA Today Inside Hollywood: Why does RPatz still audition?
When the franchise that made you famous has made over $1.3 billion at the box office, you’d probably never lower yourself to audition for a role again, right?

Not Robert Pattinson.

To win over Animal Kingdom writer/director David Michôd, RPatz threw any Twilight swagger out the window. “I didn’t know anything about him,” Michôd told us Thursday night at The Rover‘s L.A. premiere. (He said this with a straight face.)I hadn’t seen any of the Twilight films.”

But Michôd remembered meeting Pattinson and his “really wonderfully awkward physical energy,” which the director thought would be perfect for The Rover, a post-apocalyptic drama, which leaves RPatz caked in dirt and blood as the dim younger brother of a car thief.

Despite the fact that few in Pattinson’s position would continue to test for roles, said Michôd, Pattinson was cool about it:

There were no airs, there was no arrogance, there was no sense of entitlement. Even in terms of testing for me. He knew that he needed to work hard to have the kind of career that he wants.

How did Pattinson, dressed in a natty teal suit, feeling about bringing his Cannes hit to the U.S.? “A bit scary,” said the actor, looking around at the college crowd at Westwood’s Regency Bruin theater waving signs and posters. (Even Zac Efron was there.)

"But we had a really young audience in Australia a few days ago and it was such a bafflingly different reaction. Everybody was like, howling with laughter. And in Cannes you could hear a pin drop the entire time. Crazy. So I have no idea what the reaction’s going to be.”

TheHollywoodReporter Robert Pattinson at 'The Rover' L.A. Premiere: 'I'm Not Trying to Break Out of Anything'

The teen heartthrob, made famous for his role in "Twilight," confessed to THR at his latest film's premiere in Los Angeles that he has "lots and lots of secrets." The screams of teenage girls could be heard for miles as Robert Pattinson hit the Los Angeles Regency Bruin Theatre on Thursday night at the U.S. premiere of The Rover.

The British star, donned in a navy blue Alexander McQueen suit, hit the red carpet with writer and director David Michod, producers David Linde and Liz Watts, and costar Guy Pearce for the film's Los Angeles debut.
Made famous for his leading role in the Twilight saga, the actor told The Hollywood Reporter that he is not confining his career to a specific genre. "I’m not really trying to break out of anything. I feel like every single movie I’ve done is part of the same road. I’m not trying to distance myself of anything particularly," Pattinson said. "I just hope people like [the film]."

Set a decade following a global economic depression, The Rover tells the story of Eric (Pearce), who relentlessly pursues a brutal gang in the Australian outback that steal his car: his only remaining possession. Left abandoned by his brother and fellow gang members, Rey (Pattinson) is forced to guide Eric in tracking down the brutal clan.

"To be honest, [The Rover] did come to me from a place of anger, when it was a despair and anger that I was feeling about the state of the world today," Michod explained. "The movie is set a few decades in the future, but it isn’t set for post apocalypse. Michod wanted the evils showcased in the film to be "directly connected" and representative of the wrongs seen and experienced in "the world today."

While filming, the cast and crew endured extreme heat (just over 110 degrees), rain storms and outback flies, which are apparent throughout the movie. "It always helps to be in real locations," Pearce said. "That extreme heat, those flies, and that vast expanse of desert — it just adds to it, like you’re putting on a costume. It takes you there."

Though each role was a deciding factor in choosing to partake in the project, both Pearce and Pattinson remarked that Michod's directorship was ultimately why they committed to the film. "It wasn’t the role that drew me to the film. It was the script and David that drew me to the film…this time it was really about David being the filmmaker that he is," Pearce revealed. Pattinson also remarked: "I really like David a lot. I love Animal Kingdom…[the script] just seemed so different and original…it was a bit of a no brainer."

Audiences can expect to see another set of Pattinsnon’s acting talents in gangster-type film Idol's Eye alongside Robert De Niro out at the end of this year, which still comes as a surprise to him: "It sounds crazy for me to say…that’s something which I’ve wanted – which I think anyone — would want to do."

Though the Rover star is seemingly normal and content with the simple things in life, including inflatable furniture, driving a 1989 BMW, and downsizing from a $6.27 million home to a rental, he is a man of mystery. "[I have] lots and lots of secrets, that will remain secrets forever."

Following the premiere, an exclusive after party at the W Hotel in Westwood drew the likes of Neighbors star Zac Efron, Katy Perry and Michelle Rodriguez. Party-goers were served an assortment of appetizers including sliders, mini pigs in a blanket, chicken skewers and an array of desserts at a chocolate fondue bar.
