NEW YORK — You'd think Brad Pitt had shown up.
Instead, it was Twilight's brooding vampire Robert Pattinson, accompanied by director Catherine Hardwicke, who drew a packed and very loud crowd at the Soho Apple store Monday night for a fan Q&A about his vampire film based on the best-selling book by Stephenie Meyer.
ASK AWAY: Got a question for Team 'Twilight?'
The audience, made up mostly of screaming girls, went nuts when Pattinson showed up, shrieking "I love you" to the British thespian. Pattinson responded with a bemused "thank you" to very boisterous declarations of adoration, but told the ladies he's no polished hunk.
"I haven't washed my hair in about six weeks," said Pattinson, 22. "It's disgusting."
Is he anything like Edward Cullen, the bloodsucker who feeds on animals rather than humans?"I have an incredible six-pack. I'm joking," cracked Pattinson. "I can run really fast. I'm good at climbing trees. I always get carried away when I'm kissing people. I just go nuts."
He signed on to do the film because "I liked Catherine. I like the story," said Pattinson. "Done."
Depending on how Twilight, which opens Nov. 21, performs at the box office, sequels are a possibility for the director and her stars. Hardwicke, best known for smaller films such as Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown, seems mostly unfazed by the massive and very passionate followers of the film, even though fans clustered outside the Apple store and mobbed her car when she arrived.
"They're very vocal," said Hardwicke of the book series' followers.
How did Hardwicke find Pattinson, whose largest film role to date has been Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films?
"We auditioned every gorgeous guy that acts on the planet," she said. "(Pattinson) came over to meet with Kristen (Stewart, who plays Edward's human love Bella) and I. They auditioned and they did some scenes on my bed. These two had the chemistry."

How can you attend a Twilight signing? Read carefully! Purchase the $30 Twilight Tour tee and get a wristband that guarantees you access to the signing. Purchase must be made IN PERSON on the date of the event in the specific malls listed below. Space is very limited. You must have a wristband to enter signing.
For “Edward’s” appearances you must be one of the first 500 customers to purchase the Twilight Tour tee for access.
Limit two (2) wristbands per customer. NO CAMERAS allowed and one autograph per person. The actors will be signing posters we are providing and will not be able to sign any personal items. After each signing, the actor(s) will be hanging out briefly to answer questions about Twilight, which opens in theaters November 21st.
They are getting crazy about stuff, no cameras? I guess they had to put these restrictions so poor Rob wouldn't have to pose for 1000 pictures.But still...And they are calling him Edward? WTH!
Although this is only for the Dallas appearance it will probably be the same for all Hot Topic appearances.

The girl who answered the phone said "thanks for calling hot topic, your twilight headquarters" and sort of laughed (I also heard giggling in the background). She sounded like she had been on the phone all day. Here is what I found out though.
The mall is opening its doors at 6am so we can all rush to Hot Topic to buy the wristbands. Hot Topic is closing its doors at 5pm so the line can form, then the signing goes from 6-7:30pm. After this, he will be led downstairs where they apparentally have a room for the question and answer session which should last 30-45 minutes.
I asked her if a lot of people had already called today, she said I was about the 95th person.

I got there just in time to get one of the hundred bracelets they gave out. Those who didn't have a bracelet did not get in. There were only 65 seats in the whole place, the rest was standing room only.
About 8:30PM Catherine Hardwicke came out and was asked many questions. She told everyone there that she actually just finished the final cut of the film about 8 days ago. She was very nice to all that attended even though she knew all in attendance were there for Rob. Robert came out about fifteen minutes later to the roar of hundreds of screaming fans. He had on a black cap which even when asked by many fans to take off wouldn't. Too bad! He seemed very shy and still in awe about the fuss of his part in the whole Twilight phenomenon. He actually said he was still in shock over everyone's reaction to him being Edward since in the beginning he was getting hate mail and bad buzz. He said he still thought that he would go out one day and someone might want to shoot him. The poor guy has no idea what he is in for when the movie
opens and he becomes an instant megastar... I only hope he will stay so humble.... Fans asked what Catherine's and his hobbies were and she said she liked to surf but Rob said he didn't do much of anything and that he was quite boring..As if!

then when rob got there... he was literally outside for .2 seconds. not kidding!
the car stopped, door opened, everyone came RUNNING, and he was inside
it was like.... 1,2,3 ::apples door shuts::
they were like, shutting the door.. as he was walking in, and then security all blocked the door so no one can try and sneak in.

The Anti-Hero!
Twilight may be mainly a love story between a vampire and a human, but Robert Pattinson didn’t shy away from delving into the intricacies of his character Edward! “I like the fact that he’s sort of a hero character that so violently denies that he’s in any way a hero at any point,” Robert shares. “Even when he does heroic acts. Every single step he makes he thinks is a mistake, but really he’s kind of doing as best he can, actually. I think he’s really quite nice. He’s very humble.”
Rain, Rain, Go Away!Weather was a major factor during the filming that took place in Oregon, as you can tell from the hail-storm that occured on one of the days Popstar! was on set! “It’s so difficult,” Robert laughs. “I mean, every single day you have to prepare for, like, seven scenes –’if it’s cloudy with a little bit of sun, we’ll do this. If it’s pure sunny we’ll do this’– because I can’t come out in the sun ever so I have such specific work conditions. And then today, it went from being perfect to being a complete monsoon, and then as soon as we leave set it’s perfect again. It’s just impossible! It’s like, ‘Quick, just get anything! Just film anything!”
Movie Magic!
In a movie about vampires, you can bet there are going to be some supercool special effects–and Kristen Stewart shares her personal fave surreal movie moment! “[Arm] socket is ripped!” she jokes about the scene in which she experiences Edward’s superhuman speed first hand. “He grabs my hand and just [throws me over onto his back] and Rob can do it because he’s a big man. It was fun. It was great. Wirework is pretty fun. I’m not too afraid of heights and it was a cheap thrill!”
The Perfect Match!
It was not easy casting the “right” Bella and Edward–especially with legions of readers to impress! But Kristen tells us that things just clicked when Robert auditioned for the role. “Not to put down any of the other actors who came in that were really good, but there was just something, like purely just connection,” she describes. “Everybody came in playing Edward like a happy-go-lucky guy. It’s like, ‘You’ve been alive for 108 years, you’re in Purgatory! What are you doing???’ It takes away from that love story, it takes away from that change in him. I got, like, really hardcore pain from [Robert]–not that he’s in pain now, but he definitely had that going on and that’s what Edward needs.”
Lights, Camera, Action!
The stage is set for the big prom scene for Bella and Edward, but Kristen says there was another specific moment from the book that she was most looking forward to filming! “I kind of can’t wait to do a scene that everybody calls ‘The Meadow Scene,’” she says, referring to the first time Edward lets Bella see him in the sunlight. “It’s hefty. Thats a heavy one.”
