Robert Pattinson Talks About How Filming "Rememeber Me" Was More Intense Than "Twilight"

NEW YORK — Robert Pattinson is understandably a little fidgety and distracted these days. Everywhere he goes, it seems, he’s followed by lightninglike flashes and shutter-clicking hordes of paparazzi. When word gets out that he’s in town — and, somehow, it always does — screeching gaggles of young female fans gather nearby and swoon over his every move.

So it is that the hunky, 23-year-old British star of the hot teen vampire films "Twilight” and "New Moon” seems a bit preoccupied as he is ushered into a midtown hotel suite to discuss his new movie, "Remember Me,” during a recent press event hosted by Summit Entertainment.

Flanked by a team of stern, clock-watching publicists who admonish everyone around, "No pictures; no autographs,” Pattinson looks slightly sheepish as he’s handed a bottle of Fiji water and settles into a chair.

His hair tousled and his face fashionably stubbled, he’s decked out in gray shirt, gray wind-breaker jacket and rumpled dark jeans, appearing every bit the successor of moody-broody heartthrobs in the James Dean-Johnny Depp lineage.

Hollywood Dailies Interview With Robert Pattinson

Once again he talks about how crazy it was in New York while filming, his fight seen with Chris Cooper and that he'd like to so some more directing!

Oh and Rob can you say "Little" again for me?? Please? Aah go on!

Robert Pattinson Talks James Dean And Bullies To MTV

By now, you've probably watched the "Eclipse" trailer a half-million times, eager to catch every last glimpse of Robert Pattinson. But don't forget that this weekend brings the chance to see the trailer on the big screen when it plays before showings of RPattz's new drama "Remember Me."

Still not enough Rob for you? Well, before you go see the movie this weekend, read on for an interview RPattz did with our friends at MTV Radio. In it, he spills the beans on playing a "Remember Me" rebel without a cause, his reasons for being brooding and wounded in real life, and why people like hitting him.

MTV: How do you like not biting someone?

Robert Pattinson: I bit people in this! [Laughs.] No, I didn't. It's different. I feel like I'm missing out on something, but it's a relief not having all that makeup on.

MTV: What attracted you to this role?

Pattinson: I read it after the first "Twilight" film, and I always liked it. It was always in the back of my mind. And then the opportunity came up between the second and third ones, which was a small period of time, so you can only do a certain type of movie. I was trying to remember all the little things I'd read, and this was perfect, and it didn't need any real prep time or anything. There was something different about it. It didn't fit into a typical teen movie, and it seemed quite realistic.

MTV: People say you remind them of James Dean. Do you count him as an influence?

Pattinson: I think James Dean was one of the most influential people on young guys — especially actors — definitely in the last 50 years. I'm not ashamed to say I am very much influenced by him.

MTV: This character bears many similar traits to Edward Cullen. Are you worried about being typecast at all?

Pattinson: Maybe I am brooding and wounded, and I'm just realizing it. [Laughs.] No, I'm not. You take little steps [as you go from role to role]. I'm always quite aware of how people are going to view things, and you have to go halfway. If I did something playing a 400-pound woman, people are going to judge it a bit more harshly than other people who've been doing character parts for 20 years. All the projects I'm doing, I'm not doing in a calculated way, but they seem like little baby steps towards other things. What I'm doing now is intensity — I like that. It's what I like in characters.

MTV: This film deals with some violent, random acts. Is there something you were able to bring from your past to this role?

Pattinson: It was more about the reactions after, about how [my character] dealt with random events. ... He has a blasĂ© attitude, even when it's him who is harmed. I always related to that; looking back in the past and having grudges and things, I don't really do that. But the violence and things, the way his violence comes out, it's illogical and it's not against legitimate targets. I related to that — when you have a spasm of rage, it goes almost every time through the wrong target and causes more problems. It's better to keep it chained up.

MTV: There's a scene where you go pretty crazy in a schoolroom, opposite a young actress.

Pattinson: There was one take of that they had to cut out, because it looked like I'd not only be in jail for vandalism, but for child abuse as well! I spun the desk around and the desk fell over, and she literally ran away out of the classroom! I was supposed to continue on with the scene, but I was like, "Oh my God, I'm actually going to get arrested!" She looked absolutely terrified afterwards.

MTV: You've said that you have been beaten up a few times. Who beat you up?

Pattinson: A lot of people, when I was younger. I was a bit of an idiot, always unprovoked — in my eyes, anyways.

MTV: Was it a school-bully thing?

Pattinson: No, it was after school, generally. Like, after I first started acting and I liked to behave like an actor — or what I thought was an actor — it generally provoked a lot of people into hitting me.

Esquire Tells Us How What Robert Pattinson Knows Can Save Us All

You can save me anytime you want Rob,oh just not on April 2nd coz I'll be watching "Remember Me" but any other time you want....

You want to hate him. But then you get to know him, and he gets to know himself, and you wonder if Vampire Boy (Kate: Ugh don't call him "Vampire Boy")
might just turn into the man who teaches a generation of jaded sex symbols how to be movie stars we love. (Kate: Oh alright then you're forgiven, this time, don't do it again though!)

By separating his surprisingly modest personality from his gratuitously oversexed persona, Pattinson has obliquely demanded that he be taken seriously.

A funny, unexpected thing happened to me on a recent Saturday in New York: I literally ran into Robert Pattinson, and he left me... starstruck. (Kate: LOL He seems to have that effect on everyone who meets him) He had to earn it, though, as I tend to cow neither to celebrities nor the young male heartthrob kind. I'd met the actor at an event for his new film Remember Me, which comes out Friday, but an accidental encounter with him and his entourage in a hotel corridor — where the stench of sycophancy lingered like stale piss — got things off on the wrong foot. About twenty minutes later, Pattinson and a not-quite-as-rank entourage greeted me and a handful of other journalists. I didn't expect much. His vagina allergies aside, the world's most conspicuous vampire since Dracula is notoriously shy, and Remember Me wasn't especially good. What was left to discuss? (Kate: WHAT not especially good. Say that again, I dare ya)

A lot, as it turned out, most of which hinged on the basic separation of persona from character, of public from private, of myth from man. Not that Pattinson himself, as one of the world's most in-demand men, would dare reduce his life to such binary terms. Instead, he went on and on about his limitations. "If I could do supporting roles in things, then I'd love to do that," he told me. "But it's difficult to get supporting roles because it would be really weird most of the time. 'Well, there's the guy from Twilight playing the parking warden,' or something." He smiled and laughed beneath that notorious shock of hair, not quite swearing off ambition as much as suggesting the cost of self-importance was simply too steep to pay — even for a twenty-three-year-old who made $18 million last year. He was down to earth about being stratospherically famous, and it was... refreshing. (Kate: Finally, here was me getting the impression you didn't like him. Wonder what gave me that idea :-?)

Emilie De Ravin Tells Hitfix about Her Screen Test For "Remember Me" With Robert Pattinson

Emilie de Ravin's role as Claire in the TV series "Lost" has lately caused fans to scratch their heads, but her turn starring opposite of Robert Pattinson in "Remember Me" has heads turning.

Namely, the pair share intensely intimate moments on the big screen, from their bold first kiss, to a (clothed) romp in the shower and beyond. When it came time to the film such physical chemistry, however, there were no moments or opportunities for Pattinson and de Ravin to "rehearse": they just headed right in.

"When we [screen] tested together, there was no scenes involving kissing and obviously we didn’t test with a sex scene," de Ravin laughed in her interview with HitFix. She mocked just how awkward such an audition process would become. “'We want to see another scene, so take off your clothes. We just want to see the chemistry, trust us, it’s O.K.'"

Robert Pattinson Autographs Guitar for eBay Auction Benefiting Midnight Mission In Los Angeles

Robert Pattinson walked into Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, CA, and started playing a new guitar when spotted by storeowner Norman Harris. Harris, a longtime advocate of LA's Midnight Mission, asked Pattinson if the star would be willing to autograph the guitar for the charity. Pattinson graciously agreed, and even conceded to having a photograph taken with the signed instrument for authentication.
(Kate :You may remember we brought you this story on ROBsessed)

(PRWEB) March 11, 2010 -- Robert Pattinson, the teenage heartthrob popularized by the Twilight film series and star of the new romantic drama Remember Me, opening March 12, was browsing through the eclectic inventory of Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, CA, and couldn't resist picking up a brand new Fender Telecaster and started to play. As a very talented musician and easily recognizable celebrity, it wasn't long before store owner Norman Harris noticed Pattinson. Harris, whose store routinely attracts movie stars and Hollywood power brokers alike, struck up a casual conversation with young Pattinson when the thought occurred that this was an opportunity too good to pass up.

Harris has, for many years, worked very closely with LA's Midnight Mission, a charitable organization that provides basic necessities to the homeless, including counseling, education, training and job placement across the greater Los Angeles basin. The high-end clientele of the vintage guitar store allows Harris access to some of the most popular celebrities in town, including Tom Petty, Richie Sambora, Jackson Browne, Los Lobos and REO Speed Wagon -- all of whom have played in charity concerts coordinated by Harris on behalf of the Midnight Mission. Harris knew Pattinson was one of the brightest stars of the new decade, and couldn't resist the temptation to ask for an autograph -- not for any personal collection, of course, but to be auctioned off for the benefit of the charity.

Fans that have followed Robert Pattinson for any length of time know of the actor's reluctance to be photographed or sign autographs. Pattinson's reputation isn't that of a snob but rather a professional who's a little bit shy and timid, and more than just a little bit private. But, music hath charms to soothe the savage beast, and playing music that day in Norman's store seems to have brought out the very best and most compassionate in Pattinson. Not only did the star sign the guitar, the shy persona took a picture with it -- simultaneously verifying its authenticity while multiplying its value by at least a factor of 10.

Pattinson autographed the Fender guitar back in December 2009 and the charity had listed it for auction on eBay shortly thereafter, but it simply didn't have the funding or manpower to support the auction, so it was canceled. It wasn't until recently that volunteers raised enough money for the Midnight Mission to properly promote the eBay auction, and the timing couldn't be more perfect; the auction now coincides with the opening day of Pattinson's new movie, Remember Me. Look for both the movie and the auction to open Friday, March 12.

Parade.com Talk To Robert Pattinson About All The Craziness While Filming "Remember Me" & Getting Good Advice

Robert Pattinson is taking a break from his Twilight stardom to play a rebellious New York college student in Remember Me. In the indie flick, the 23-year-old gets to explode with rage, fall in love with a girl (played by Lost's Emilie de Ravin) and go head-to head with his domineering father (played by Pierce Brosnan).

Parade.com's Jeanne Wolf found out what Pattinson had in common with his character's search for identity.

Acting as therapy.
"I try and pick roles that will help me develop as a human being and I think I was going through a similar kind of experience as my character Tyler, which I guess you could call being rebellious. I thought just doing the film would actually help me to think about and discover things that would help me in my life. I was kind of using it as a therapy exercise."

His personal struggle.
"You're so focused on trying to be an individual and trying to like stamp your identity on something. But you kind of doubt what you want to be. You don't accept just being part of the world. I sort of had that feeling. I had this obsession when I was younger about everything feeling kind of fake. Eventually, you just stop sort of railing against everything around you because most people only cause problems for themselves. They're just blind to the reality of things."

Connecting with losing a loved one.
"I keep talking about my dog all the time. It was an incredible dog, and I said in an interview recently he was the most important person in my life. My family went crazy with me for saying that. But, however ridiculous it may seem to some people, my relationship with my dog was a defining moment. Having the dog die was, literally, like the worst day of my life. It was like losing a family member." (Kate: I hear ya!)

The reality of becoming an overnight success.
"I think you really cause yourself a lot of problems if you start fighting against it. There's nothing you can do. I mean, there's no mysticism to it. People recognize you and they want to talk to you, or want to see you. My trick is not to see them as a crowd. If you break down every crowd into individuals, then it's more manageable. It's just when you start seeing these huge masses of people screaming at you that you start going crazy. So I try to focus on a few faces and not the mass."

But when you're filming on location in New York...
"It ended up being like more of a circus than I thought it was going to be. At the beginning, it was terrible. Then, about halfway through, I just suddenly had an epiphany about it. I don't know what happened, but I know it's just fine. I guess it's just learning how to sort of block things out. It's like you've just got to be more disciplined about it."

A lesson in anger control.
"While we were filming, one of the security guys saw me getting more and more upset with the paparazzi guys. He just sort of came up and was like, 'Imagine going out there and trying to hit one of them while, let's say, 40 cameras are clicking away.' That was enough to kind of calm my frustration. But, at the end of the day, you can't say, 'I'm not doing it until these people go away.' You have to keep acting. So it was definitely way more intense than any of the Twilight films."

Maybe he skips the reviews.
"I didn't like the way New Moon was treated by the critics. I think it was reviewed in the context of just being a big franchise movie. When something is so hyped, inevitably, there is a backlash against it. I think Chris Weitz is an amazing director. I really enjoyed the film. So the naysayers kind of annoyed me."

So why not try an album?
"I kind of want to do one at the end of the year. All my friends are recording albums and I'm very annoyed about it. But I can't do two things at once. I don't know how people like Jennifer Lopez can act and also sing. I'm just like, 'I can't.' But, hopefully, I'll find some time to get it together."

Emile de Ravin talks Robert Pattinson With Canada.com

NEW YORK - As one of the high-profile stars in the popular TV series Lost, Emilie de Ravin has endured more than her share of silly questions from inquiring minds.

Usually, she tries to be friendly and forthcoming, but the Australian actress makes an exception during a recent promotional interview for the movie Remember Me, which opens March 12.

In the romantic drama, de Ravin plays Ally, a New York cop's daughter who ends up falling for Tyler, a rebellious college student played by Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson. The characters develop a relationship - to the chagrin of Ally's protective father.

That's great, but what was it like kissing Robert Pattinson, she's asked?

"Come on," says de Ravin as she rolls her eyes to dismiss the teen-mag type of query.

She had more to say about her Remember Me portrayal and working alongside Pattinson. For instance, she will admit that her decision to do the Pattinson vehicle had nothing to do with the actor's involvement.

"His name might have been on the cover of the screenplay, but I didn't associate him with the movie," de Ravin admits.

However, she learned to appreciate his talents and his drive to be an actor, not a teen sensation. "He's a very sort of normal, grounded, down-to-earth individual, and he's not one of these people who's doing this for the fame," she says.

Robert Pattinson - Remember Me Review from Australia's The Age

WHILE it's too early to say whether Robert Pattinson has the acting talent to go beyond playing a hot vampire in the Twilight series, Remember Me suggests his prospects are slim.

Pattinson isn't the first teen idol to fancy himself as the second coming of James Dean, but his performance as rebellious rich kid Tyler Hawkins is a ponderous catalogue of Method mannerisms: he spends the whole movie pouting and letting his head roll forward as he fumbles for a cigarette.

Though Remember Me is basically a love story, like many recent American films it's also about grief. Tyler has been at odds with his family ever since his brother's suicide, while his new girlfriend Ally (Emilie de Ravin) has never recovered from the fateful day when her mother was gunned down in the subway.

The contrivances don't stop there: director Allen Coulter can do little to redeem the inane script by newcomer Will Fetters, which strives to be whimsical, edgy and profound.

This is the kind of drama where the hero quotes Gandhi and the kooky heroine orders dessert first because she believes in seizing the day.

Much of the dialogue is so awful it's hard to see why anyone thought the film a good idea - unless it was for the sake of the ending, which will either blow your mind or leave you paralysed with embarrassment.

Robert Pattinson - Interview with Parade

Robert Pattinson: 'I Don't Remember the Last Time I Asked Someone on a Date'

Fear not, Twilight fans. This June, Robert Pattinson will be back in theaters as Hollywood's hottest vampire, Edward Cullen, in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Meanwhile, you can catch him making love and war as troubled college student Tyler in the indie drama Remember Me. Parade.com's Jeanne Wolf found out why Pattinson would like to be more like his character, who doesn't hold back his emotions.

The dating game.
"When it comes to the opposite sex, I'm not as fully confident as the guy I play. I don't even remember the last time I asked someone out on a date, like, just went up to them and that's the first thing I did. I'm much more self-conscious and not wanting to fail. So I tend to hold back."

Ditto with unleashing his macho side.
"I related to Tyler in that I wish I could have done things like he did when I had the opportunity. There is something quite satisfying about being a little bit more reckless and even fighting. It's quite cathartic to just sort of randomly start hitting someone. It was fun kind of, letting all your rage go on the set. We had this big scene where I punch out some guys. It went fine and nobody was really hurt at all. But, at the end, I was like doing this thing where I was hitting myself in the arm, sort of pumping myself up. They cut it out of the movie, but I punched myself so hard that I was in a lot of pain for the rest of the shoot. It was the most stupid thing I've ever done."

He's felt the pain before.
"I got beaten up by a lot of people when I was younger. I was a bit of an idiot, but I always thought the assaults were unprovoked. It was after I first started acting and I liked to behave like an actor, or how I thought an actor was supposed to be, and that apparently provoked a lot of people into hitting me."

What he learned from Pierce Brosnan.
"We went out to dinner in a restaurant full of all these guys who looked like bankers or brokers. They didn't recognize me, but they recognized Pierce. And he said, 'Notice those people looking over?' I'm sitting there getting more and more self-conscious, even though I didn't realize they weren't looking at me. Suddenly, Pierce got up and introduced himself to everybody in the restaurant. At first I was like, 'What are you doing? You're like completely insane.' But it worked. Everybody just relaxed and stopped staring and you could tell they were going to go home and say, 'Pierce is such a nice guy.'"

No problem with being compared to James Dean.
"I think he was like the most influential person for young guys, especially actors, in the last 50 years. So yeah, I mean, I'm not ashamed to say I am very much influenced by him."

Facing up to the pressure of the box office.

"It's like a kind of a monster thing. The more people think they know you, the more you're identified with a certain kind of role. People always used to ask me about typecasting and I never had to really worry about it. You think people will judge you by your work. But the truth is, it's about whether the film you're in makes money or not. And if it's not making money, they're like, 'Oh, he's over.'"

His ultimate goal.
"You keep trying to make your name stand for something other than just like meaningless celebrity. It's a difficult battle, but I think people like Johnny Depp have done that. He's not judged by his public image, it's just his acting that counts. To get to that place takes a lot of discipline and a lot of hiding."

Edward Cullen: Heaven.
Bella Swan: [Bella runs into Edward in an attempt to get him back in the shadows] You have to move! Open your eyes, look at me. I'm alive. You have to move!
Edward Cullen: [Edward grabs Bella and goes into the shadows] You're here!
Bella Swan: I'm here.
Edward Cullen: [Smiles] You're alive!
Bella Swan: Yes... I needed you to see me once. You had to know that I was alive. You didn't need to feel guilty about it. I can let you go now.
Edward Cullen: I could never let go of you. I just couldn't live in a world where you didn't exist.
Bella Swan: [puzzled] But you said...
Edward Cullen: I lied. I had to lie, and you believed me so easily.
Bella Swan: [Starts crying] Because it doesn't make sense for you to love me. I'm nothing... Human. Nothing.
Edward Cullen: Bella, you're everything to me. Everything.

Altogether now: *SIGH*
