ROBsession 101: Robert Pattinson & Peter Berg

ROBsession 101: Robert Pattinson & Peter Berg

We had quite the surprise yesterday :) Somehow, Peter Berg and Taft School became our saviors. Brought us water in our dry desert. Fresh air in our empty home. Light...in our dark tunnel.

You get the point. We're in a very serious, very long term drought and we can thank Mr. Berg for plucking Rob out of his hotel and off his bike to give us some reprieve. (video after the cut)

Photobucket

Yet some folks (enough folks) commented to me that they were unaware or couldn't recall the Pattinson/Berg connection prior to yesterday. That means class is in session!

There once was a book in the 60s called Dune. That book became a movie in the 80s called Dune. That movie is trying to get remade in the 21st century...it will be called...Dune.

Peter Berg was set to direct that movie and Robert Pattinson was rumored to be considering for a lead. Dune may continue it's journey to the big screen but Berg and Pattinson are no longer attached. Yet they remain friendly...friendly enough for Peter Berg to call upon Robert Pattinson for a favor we appreciated greatly :)

When did all this Dune-ness happen?

I know you've seen the picture...you know....this one

Photobucket

But what you may not have noticed was Peter Berg in the background. I don't blame you. Why would you pay attention to Berg when Rob is hoping all over Berg's front yard, flashing boxer briefs and happy trails.

Float like a butterfly...

Sting like a bee!

Pucker for us, Rob!

These were first posted on ROBsessed, May 11, 2009 but we bring them to you large and untagged for your viewing pleasure :)

The article to even begin to understand why Taft School has provided us some water in the looooooong drought:

Mr. Cobb. A vampire?….Well that explains why he doesn’t age. And if Edward Cullen (aka Robert Pattinson of the Twilight series) says so, it must be true. Mike, a three-sport varsity captain, and Neve, who does it all—they can’t be human. So Pattinson and Peter Berg ’80 decide it’s time to shut Taft down.

No one thought Headmaster Willy MacMullen could top last year’s Headmaster Holiday announcement. But director/producer Peter Berg came through yet again, filming a video message with Pattinson in a Baton Rouge cemetery.

Berg recapped his theme of unfairness from last year (headholiday09), reminding students that he didn’t have what they have at Taft now. “You guys are continuing to dominate, “ he says to the camera, “and I’m going to deal with it.”

The tradition of a Headmaster Holiday goes back more than a century, to the election of William Howard Taft, whose son was then a student. Knowing Taft’s son would want to attend the inauguration, Horace Taft declared the first Headmaster Holiday--allowing both Horace and his nephew to attend the ceremony.

"I love this tradition,” said MacMullen. “Every student and teacher needed a break from our labors, but the seniors needed it the most, and it is a really great class. Needless to say, when the film was shown, it was deafening! Peter Berg has directed another blockbuster hit! I thought we were going to have to call in the medics--several of the girls looked as if they were about to have a heart attack!"

Of course the stakes have been raised now. "To top this year's video, I have a few requirements for the announcement of the headmaster's holiday for my senior year," middler Cassie Willson emailed the headmaster shortly after. "I'm going to need Paul McCartney in person in Bingham, and he will announce the day off and then pull me on stage to perform an impromptu concert for the school. You can make that happen, right?"

The Volunteer Council took advantage of the opportunity to remind students of the Red Cross blood drive today, with the posting “Edward Cullen wants your blood!”

Not quite sure what this Taft School holiday is all about? Gözde gave an explanation on twitter: Explanation of the headmaster holiday: 27th president of US William Howard Taft's son was a student at Taft. On the day of his inauguration the school headmaster declared a "headmaster's holiday" so that his son didn't miss it :)

Robert Pattinson OUT of "Dune", Still doing "Bel Ami"

Thanks to Gossip Cop for clearing up the rumors in a world where people cash on lying about everything.

From Gossip Cop:

There has been enormous speculation over the past two days about which films Robert Pattinson will do and which he will not.

In a series of threads on IMDB, for example, fans wondered whether it was true that Pattinson had been recast or dropped out of the film “Bel Ami,” in which he plays an immoral man named George Duroy, based on the short story by Guy de Maupassant. While many thought that he was recast/bowed out because of scheduling issues, Gossip Cop can confirm that Pattinson is still slated to make that movie.

But what about Pattinson re-making “Dune,” a rumor which set Twitter atwitter? While it’s true that Peter Berg remains intent on doing a re-make of the 1984 film that starred Kyle MacLachlan, Robert Pattinson will NOT be in the film, a source close to the actor tells Gossip Cop.

So it’s one in and one out for Pattinson.

Bel Ami is a novel written by French Author Guy de Maupassant in 1885. It The story chronicles Georges Duroy's corrupt rise to power from a poor ex-NCO to one of the most successful men in Paris, most of which he achieves by manipulating a series of powerful, intelligent, and wealthy mistresses.(Read more HERE)

Bel-Ami was made into films and mini series before. You can check Guy de Maupassant imdb page for more info.

From MTV.com:

‘Twilight’ Star Robert Pattinson Sighted In The Vicinity Of Director Peter Berg
Published by Adam Rosenberg on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 2:00 pm.

Robert PattinsonThe spice might soon be flowing, right onto Robert Pattinson’s resume. When it comes to the vampire heartthrob, absolutely nothing is yesterday’s news. That said, Perez Hilton reported that the actor was spotted leaving the Los Angeles home of director Peter Berg yesterday while on a break from the ongoing “New Moon” shoot. Berg and Pattinson may very well just be friends, but this fanboy is hoping that the two met to discuss the actor’s possible involvement in Berg’s upcoming “Dune” remake.

Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel “Dune” was adapted for the silver screen by director David Lynch in 1984. Although Lynch managed to hit the novel’s key points, his tendency towards the avant-garde ultimately led to the mixed bag of fan reception that followed in the wake of the adaptation’s release. Liberal changes made to the story didn’t help either, with the worst offender being a ridiculous shout-activated sonic handgun.

A far more faithful adaption, entitled “Frank Herbert’s Dune,” ran on the Sci Fi Channel in 2000 as a six-hour miniseries. Director John Harrison did a commendable job with the budget he was given, but the miniseries had neither the large-scale production nor the reach that one would expect from a full-blown blockbuster film.

Berg, who is no stranger to delivering for wide audiences, has the best shot so far at tapping into the same sort of mass appeal with “Dune” that J.J. Abrams did with this week’s “Star Trek.” Pattinson’s “Twilight” stardom and youthful good looks will certainly draw a crowd, especially if Berg is considering him for the leading role of Paul Atreides. Bear in mind, all of this is purely speculative and based on a Perez Hilton celeb sighting. So make sure to pour out a few grains of salt before getting your hopes up.

Rob meets with director Peter Berg at his home...

While on a short break from shooting New Moon up in Vancouver, Rob met with Friday Night Lights and Hancock director Peter Berg, who's also set to direct another big screen adaptation of the sci-fi classic, Dune.

After the meeting it was straight to LAX where he returned to the set.
