Not sure who the other 52 are!!

Rob has been a few characters now so, here is my alternative...

1 Edward - rediscovered Rob through Edward so he's my number one

2 Tyler - RL Rob on the big screen OMG!!!

3 George DuRoy - the anticipation alone is killing me!

4 Jacob Jankowski - same as above

5 Arther - blimey just want to hug him!

6 Salvador - Hard to play but Rob you're a stunning winner in this film.

7 Toby Jugg - I hate spiders put me off this one for a while but FM Rob in uniform is a winner!!

8 Cedric Diggery - first noticed Rob, too cute and sooo young

9 Daniel Gale - Nerdy Rob at his best (bless)

That's just my opinion... Don't hold it against me. I'm sooo fickle when it comes to Rob I may change my mind at moments notice LOL!

Edward, # 1 ever.

@Dess--Good afternoon to you! Nice list.

Edward is what led me to Rob and to being ROBsessed, so Edward will always be #1 on my list.

@DessertFirst - talking of Daniel Gale! This weekend I came across a copy of the paperback of Bad Mothers Handbook and read it in a couple of nights. Loved it!

It's a bit different to the film, and there's actually a scene of sexual activity between Dan and Charlotte.

I really like Rob as Daniel - he's so funny and gorgeous - makes me want to pull those glasses from his face and give him a big kiss!

caroleuk hi and i like when people called him rob and not edward at least we do not want our boy typecast as edward although we are grateful for the roll in twilight we have to remember he is rob first and we all love rod as dan, george, tyler, salvador and now jacob yes rob first

53!!! I don't think so. We're talking top 10 at least, folks. What are they thinking?? Ahh well, between Rob and Edward, I'm fairly set.

tedgirl said...

Fell in love with the Actor who portrayed Edward. Yes, nobody could have done it befittingly ......! RTP

Thinking at times that Edward "good" qualities be taught to teen boys how to treat girls as a reference manual of some sort in today's generation, i.e. loyalty, honesty, selflessness and chivalry to name some even in an era of feminism.

A fair treatment between sexes! that's all.....LOL

(don't want to offened anyone)

Are they kidding?

Edward Cullen is one of the most iconic characters of all time. He should be way higher up on that list.

I agree he should be #1, with all other characters following. Of course, I am a little biased.

He's a sexy beast that's for sure.

I bought this yesteday but disagree with number 53. I think he should be much earlier in the list, but still, it is good he is there. I also wish they would stop associating him only with teens because his appeal is far greater and wider.

ShariG said...

Homer Simpson is number one and Harry Potter number two. I agree with some of the earlier ones because they have been around long enough to become iconic, but some of them are clearly not as great. For example Cher from Clueless at 34, Buffy??? aat #3 seems questionable to me. I think Edward belong right about 10. I would put Homer, Harry, Tony Soprano, Heath Ledger's Joker, Rachel from Friends, Edward Scissorhands, Hannibal Lecter, Carrie Bradshaw, and maybe Mulder and Scully ahead of Edward, but that is really all. They have Jack Sparrow, Jeff Lebowski, Shrek, Bridget Jones (whom I love), Lara Croft, Sue Sylvester, Morpheus, ALly McBeal, Roseanne, Cartman,Autin Powers, Felicity, and Woody from Toy Story in their top 25. I think Edward could fit anywhere in there.

nikola6 said...

I know you guys are joking 'cause Edward Cullen wasn't named number one. I mean, you guys are joking, right? You all have enough understanding of pop culture to realize what a great compliment this is to Rob? Right? Because it is. To Rob. Because this isn't even about Edward Cullen. It's about the level of stardom that Robert Pattinson has achieved in bringing him to life up on the big screen.

And even though this is just Entertainment Weekly, it's still got the biggest readership of any magazine devoted stictly to show business (and it's not a gossip rag). And they're not naming just the top 100 movie characters or just the top 100 tv characters or just the top 100 literary characters or just the top 100 comic characters. They've thrown ALL the fictional characters of the past 20 years (thousands and thousands of them) into one huge pot (everyone from old Rose on the Titanic to Eric Cartman of South Park) and pulled out JUST 100 names, and Rob's character, Edward Cullen made that list (If he'd been named 100, it still would have been a huge compliment).

A character that's only been around for five years in book form and less than two as a film incarnation. Tell me you see the acolade here and not an insult cause he didn't place higher. With all of the different vampires we've seen (in books, film and television) since Bram Stoker first came up with Dracula, in just five years time, Edward Cullen has become one of the most famous EVER! I'm not saying the best written or the best anything. Just one of the most famous vampires the world has ever known. In just five years time! That's unbelieveable! And it's happened because of the actor who's brought him to life (hee hee), immortalized him forever up on the big screen...Robert Pattinson. And 50 years from now, when Twilight is a very distant memory, when referring vampires, people will still know what the name Edward Cullen means. Just like they'll know Lestat and of course, Dracula. Name me another vampire more famous than those three (Okay. There's Nostfuratu, but is he an actual fictional character or is that just the German word for vampire? Who cares. Just get back to beating your point into the ground).

And even though this is Bella Swan's story, they didn't name her character AND even though Taylor Lautner's got the body of the moment, they didn't name his character, Jacob Black. Nope. They named Edward Cullen. And that's because HE'S become the cultural icon because of the phenomenon playing him. The phenomenon known as...Robert Pattinson.

I don't mean to play school teacher here, but I read some of the comments and I think...they're joking. This can't be going over their heads. They have to see what this is.

And this why I've kicked a little dust over the complaints about Summit pushing the triangle. Let 'em. Taylor/Jacob is no threat to Rob/Edward in ANY of this. Everyone KNOWS who and what is fueling all of this and it ain't Taylor Lautner and/or Jacob Black.

Even more than Edward Cullen, it is Robert Pattinson who IS Twilight and that's because without HIS portrayal and HIS stardom, Edward would have remained flat on the written page, remembered as a character in a so so best selling book series for teenage girls instead of being immortalized in full dimensional glory by Robert Pattinson.

And I apologize. I know some will be off put by me pointing out the obvious. But don't slap me too hard. Condescending know-it-alls need love too (actually, I'm not really that at all. I just play one on ROBsessed).

Good morning girls.

It is great honor to have Edward cullen to be on the list , I wonder who are rest of the characters?I agree that it was because of Robert Pattinson persona that this got so much importance,he brought him to life -with the help of Kristen, they certainly had tremendous chemistry esp in TW1 - there was this nervous energy between them making the relation and the characters three dimensional, rarely it is seen otherwise characters becomes mundane and routine.
Many of my posts are confusing becoz- I end up mincing words that don't come on screen. Congratulations Edward cullen and Rob Pattinson.

Thx

Kerri said...

You know, sometimes I wonder about the intelligence of the editors of these mags. Seriously, # 53. Who has ignited a frenzy so consuming that it's felt across the frifggen earth? Robert Pattinson's Edward Culen, that's who. So who the F**k chose the retarded title "Teen Idol" is an utter moron. I'm 33 for Chrissake, here, on a RPatz blog. I don't see many women my age drooling over anyone other than Johnn Depp. That has to count or something. At least higher than 53! Jeeze.

nikola6 said...

Kerri...

Considering how long Edward Cullen has been around (only five years on the page, less than two on the big screen) and considering the thousands and thousands...and thousands of fictional characters that had to choose from (from books, films, television and comic books), being named 53 is HUGE!

There is no insult here!

nikola6 said...

Although if they had waited another two and a half years to compile this list (after Twilight is concluded and most likely will have wracked up close to 4 billion for the ENTIRE franchise; B.O., dvd's, merchandise), Edward Cullen would have made the top 10.

pattid53 said...

@nik
I don't respond often but love reading your commentaries on this blog. You are right it is truly an incredible testament to Rob that Edward Cullen was included on this list. Of course we are biased concerning everything Rob and always want him to be #1.

I would like your opinion on something. Do you think any of this would have happened if SM's choice of who she imagined to play Edward, Henry Cavill, had been cast instead of Rob? Just curious about your thoughts on this matter.

lemonie said...

@pattid53 - totally agree with you - who Henry cavill?! He may be a pretty boy but nowhere in the same league as Rob - and its not just Robs looks that were perfect as Edward, but the emotional restraint and charisma which along with his sex appeal just oozes off the screen.

I know that Henry Cavill has got some stuff coming up but I can't imagine Twilight ever having had the same impact with any other actor apart from Rob - mainly because of the chemistry between Kris and his holy hotness!
Does anyone know who the other 3 actors shortlisted by CH for Edward's part were?

Jane said...

Listened to an interview where people in London were being asked, "Team Alex(True Blood), or Team Edward. The little dude that plays Sookie's brother in True Blood said, "who's Edward, the guy interviewing said, Edward Cullen, you know Robert Pattinson and the little dude said I don't know who you are talking about so I will have to say Team Alex. Wow, there is actually someone who does not know Rob.

ShariG ...

That's interesting. I've missed something - who chooses the list again?

Nik @3.50

ITA, it is a major achievement to see EC at 53 because there have only been 2 films released so far and he was more of a supporting player in 2nd with not much screen time. Big franchises have made the list and long running series and comic strip heroes so it means a lot.

What IS happening is that everyone is noticing Rob now.

In the next couple of years he'll be getting more nominations for big awards and no one is going to celebrate harder than me when he gets the big O!

Welcome back Nik, tho the chances of you reading are slim as I hardly seem to be on here when you are.

I love ya Nicola6, at first I was... huh? Edward is #53 but, you are right, considering that hr'd only been around for such a short time and what RP brought to this character... IO say go Edward!
