Robert Pattinson is "finally on my radar and he is flying high with potential"

Robert Pattinson is "finally on my radar and he is flying high with potential"

While we patiently await the start of Idol's Eye and for WorkingRob to transport back to the 70s, this great editorial from MoviePilot put hearts in my eyes. It's a fantastic read. Someone is having their Rob-aha moment and you gotta check it out.

Excerpt from MoviePilot:
The roles actors take on in franchises tend to transcend the screens that separate them from their audiences. Many teenage movie goers tend to transpose their lives with those of their screen idols. Fantasies are apt to do that. Lately, when fans of characters are satisfied with the actor who is chosen to play their favorite characters, they become mixed with the madness of summer block buster and their own real life summer romances. This mixture of fact with fantasy can become toxic. Edward Cullen has become Pattinson's Frankenstein.
As autumn approaches, editors of magazines turn down the heat of summer block busters to a simmer. Content and covers are designed to pull readers in from the summer fun of splashing around cinematic lunacy. On slow burn readers and lovers of film go in search of shards truth. Those whose motivations are to discern fact from fantasy, are not apt to go mad over celebrities. If one is a journalist assigned to interview a celebrity, it takes a patience to provide a space where actors can unwind and open up. My eyes and my mind are constantly in search of actors with whom I seem destined to follow (the last time I swore Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and a few others would be my last 'Brat Pac' to follow beyond my wallet's capacity to justify). Recently, while I scanned the magazine racks at the Barnes and Noble in North Little Rock, I noticed Pattinson's half covered mug peering over a panel. He once again came under my radar. Like my recent blog on the actor Idris Elba, my decision to write about Pattinson stems from the fact that he appeared on the covers of a magazine, Not just that but one I trust. In this case, Esquire Magazine. I read the Esquire article and while doing so, I remembered the reviews of THE ROVER that I had seen on youtube.com (Grace Randolph's among them). Her review was condemning. Yet judging from his choice of directors Cronenberg (twice), David Michod (the Aussie director responsible for ANIMAL KINGDOM), Werner Hersog and Anton Corjbin with whom he has chosen to work, Pattinson with no compass to guide him, has chartered a course of escape from being just a pretty boy suitable only for tabloid mania.
...
While I read the magazine article I laughed at some of the revelations Pattinson shared with writer Sanjiv Bhattacharya. He was engaging and amusing. He shared what his life is like: How he has to find out-of-the way places in order to chill. With all the paparazzi and negative press always lurking, Pattinson's understandable uneasiness still seems penetrable. He opens up; if only as long as the allowable time. I am reminded of the fact that sometimes photographers are only given 15 minutes with the President of the United States. Imagine that, you have only 15 minutes to capture something genuine. In the face of power be it movies star, celebrity or politician, you can not 'flub it up'. What would you I or anyone do? Robert Pattinson is no where near the importance attributed to the great leaders of the world. Yet he has his own 'cross of popularity' to bear. How would anyone of us get beyond that and get to something genuine?
One wonders if the roles Pattinson has played this far have given him enough distance from his own surreal life as a celebrity. In THE ROVER, he is in a post-apocalyptic world. In MAPS TO THE STARS, he exist in the artificial and sometimes ghostly world of Hollywood. He himself seems to carry with him an enigma that he must constantly deny. If you see his shaved head in THE ROVER, you see a man trying to deny the power that Twilight bestowed upon him. Yet that power helps the directors who decide to help him. He helps them. By his own admission, “I don’t promote their films that much”. Yet his presence brings the bucks.....and the ever weary fan base of his brings the tabloids. NOW THATS POWER.
...
Let us hope the the best for Robert Pattinson as he continues to try to awaken from the state of undeadness as Edward Cullen. He is finally on my radar and he is flying high with potential.

UPDATE: 2 more print interviews under the cut! Love what the HuffPo interviewer said about the Pretty Girl Rock scene. If you watched our press con videos and heard our questions/comments, you KNOW we take issue with how the scene is being reported. I'm soulmates with the HuffPo interviewer. And Rob of course. ;)
The second interviewer has some cool quotes about Rob's full body acting with Rey's look and more!

These gems almost got away from us! They came out during the premiere and FeistyAngel gave us the heads up about the new stills found in The Short List magazine, an extension of the Sydney Morning Herald.

Not only do we get these fantastic stills of Rob from The Rover but the interview is really good too. He talks about Life and why he wanted to play Dennis Stock. Idol's Eye and The Childhood of a Leader get a mention too, the latter said to film in September.

365 Days of Robert Pattinson: Dec. 8 ~ Fave career move by Rob so far

365 Days of Robert Pattinson: Dec. 8 ~ Fave career move by Rob so far

Rob's made some awesome professional choices and we want to celebrate them!

Kate:
"I’ve spent all day trying to decide and I CAN’T so I’m cheating! Obviously DiorRob is up there at the top BUT working with David Cronenberg in Cosmopolis is right up there too. David believed in him and saw his potential and (I feel) because of that it has lead to so many other great acting opportunities. David gave Rob the confidence he needed to see how great he could be. So yeap while Dior is seriously major, working with David is something that I think was a fantastic career move too. SO i’m picking both ;}"

Tink:
"no contest for me. being a part of this was my fave career move by Rob. his talent shines shines shines in this film."

Kat:
"I initially couldn’t decide between Water for Elephants and Cosmopolis, then realized chances are high that neither of those would’ve existed without the role that catapulted Rob to fame. Mr. Edward Cullen. So, I have to make that my fave. However, DiorRob comes a VERY close second. But again… there likely wouldn’t be a DiorRob without a RobWard."

Oh Rob....you got us going hmmmmmmmmm...

At the end of The Rover filming, Rob was interviewed and he confirmed he was taking the next 3 weeks off. Those 3 weeks have come and gone and have left me pondering, "What's your next career move, Rob?" We know that there are plans for Maps To The Stars to go into production in July but I bet Rob's got other stuff planned in the meantime.

What do you guys think?? We used to have Torture Tuesday polls and and I feel like the waiting game is a form of torture for our fandom. Perfect time to bring back the poll!

You guys get 2 votes. I'll share my guesses later in the comments. I love guessing but patience is still a tortuous virtue! Maybe Rob has a tip for us?

ZenRob is love.

No Video Left Behind: Robert Pattinson talks about Breaking Dawn with Ticket (El Salvador)

No Video Left Behind: Robert Pattinson talks about Breaking Dawn with Ticket (El Salvador)

Rob's part starts at 2:25. Highlights:
  • Rob talks about the pressures he feels outside of the franchise
  • Talks about needing 1% of the Twilight fans to follow him for the next 20 years
  • Talks about going to El Salvador
  • Mentions not being able to surf

This was pretty cool. Rob basically said he'd work for 20 years if we'd be the 1% in his life. I'm down. How about the ladies in the dark recesses? Let's hold him to it! ;)

Robert Pattinsonioni talks to TF1 (Paris) about Breaking Dawn, his career plans and more

Robert Pattinsonioni talks to TF1 (Paris) about Breaking Dawn, his career plans and more

He starts off this interview talking about the first last day being depressing. That resonated with me. It was depressing to watch on camera too (Bella & Jacob dance). Other highlights:
  • I love the way he said "huuuuge"
  • I swooned at this quote: People meet each other and they want to fight to maintain a relationship for the rest of their lives. I don't see why that would be a crazy idea.
  • He changes his name
  • Rob wants to work with great directors who know how to make movies
Good interview :)

Did you notice the name in the title? ;)

Robert Pattinson's Water for Elephants makes over $100 million worldwide

Robert Pattinson's Water for Elephants makes over $100 million worldwide

From WaterforElephantsfilm.com:

This past weekend marked the first time Water for Elephants was not in the top 10 films but after 5 weekends in the top 10, this 6th weekend still gave us reason to celebrate.

Water for Elephants is now over the $100 million mark worldwide!

Reuters and Box Office Mojo reports domestic box office at $54.4 million and The Hollywood Reporter has WFE at $50.7 million in foreign box office sales, $105.1 million total.

This is a funny post to me because I wrote the words above but on the WFE website. I just got back from Vegas and my mind can't come up with anything else original. ;)) It needs a hard reset.

How AMAZING is this for Rob though?? I said congrats to all the other people on the WFE site but on here I can talk about how happy I am for just Rob. This is wonderful and warms my heart. Fabulous mark on his beautiful career.

Michael Sheen mentions Robert Pattinson and the legend of Edward Cullen

Michael Sheen mentions Robert Pattinson and the legend of Edward Cullen

While perusing our Edward collection, I got lost in this wallpaper by Marina that we posted back in February. One of his broody best, Rob is truly the best Edward Cullen. Michael Sheen, however, feels Edward might be all Rob is known for.

Photobucket

Speaking to Hollywood Life at the Cinema Society & Thierry Mugler screening of Midnight in Paris, Sheen had this to say:

“I think Robert has been very clever in the way that he has tried to branch out and do lots of other different things,” Michael says. “Rob has been trying to do that while he’s been doing the Twilight series and all but I think it’s going to take a long time. I think he’ll always be Edward [Cullen] for a whole generation or maybe a few generations of people and it will be difficult to get away from that. But he seems to have a good head on his shoulders.”

“Rob is one of the biggest stars in the world now because of the Twilight series and that can be a good thing or a bad thing,” Michael says. “It’s like when people have played James Bond and you get so associated with one character it means you have a huge audience and there’s a lot of people very interested. But at the same time it might put certain people off casting you as other characters.”

Humph. I guess, Mr. Sheen. Technically speaking, this does happen but we think Rob is making the right moves and those moves will benefit his career goals. Water for Elephants was well received by audiences. I found a lot of people commenting on how surprised they were with Rob's performance and the absence of Edward from their minds.

Don't get me wrong. I love me some Edward. BIG time.

But I love Rob more.

I think audiences will continue to see him as more than just Edward. Hit it, Biel!
