We told you last month that Porchlight Films said that filming for "The Rover" would wrap Mid-March and today AdelaideCrew.com updated their website with the info that "The Rover" is due to wrap on March 16th. (As always we'll update if/when there's more info on this) but it looks like things are running on schedule and I'm keeping everything crossed that we get to see this movie this year ;-)

Now Variety News Editor Stuart Oldham reported on twitter from Sundance that Guy Pearce will soon be on his way to join Rob in Australia. it's ALL happening
In other Rover news the movie has made it onto The FlimStage’s 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2013″ list at No. 23 ...........

But even more interesting was the last paragraph of their article where they said that the Autumn Film Festivals were hoping to nab the World Premiere of “The Rover”.
This has us crossing our fingers that we MAY in fact get to see “The Rover” in the VERY near future.

Why We’re Looking Forward To It: The last time Guy Pearce starred in a Australian western we got John Hillcoat‘s fantastic The Proposition. This time around, we’ve got Animal Kingdom director David Michod, Robert Pattinson (proving his talent in David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis), the underappreciated Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly, Argo, Monsters) and a near-future setting — it’s safe to say we’re quite excited. His four-star, stellar criminal underworld saga Animal Kingdom officially put first-time helmer David Michod on the map. His sophomore film was a top sales title in Cannes 2012, and the pic contains an impressive trio of three so far (further casting announcements should be made shortly) with Scoot McNairy easily enjoying his time in the spotlight.
Gist: The Rover is set in the Australian desert in a dangerous and dysfunctional near future. Eric (Guy Pearce) has left everything and every semblance of human kindness behind him. When his last possession, his car, is stolen by a gang of dangerous criminals, Eric sets off to track them down and is forced along the way to enlist the help of Reynolds (Robert Pattinson), the naive member of the gang left behind in the bloody chaos of the gang’s most recent escape.
Release Date: Production begins this month in Australia, so this means programmers from Telluride, Venice, Toronto, NYFF all have wishes of nabbing a world premiere. Surprisingly, no U.S. distributor has sunk their fangs into this.

Our reader in a recent blog post had the opportunity to read The Rover script and shared her thoughts. There are no serious spoilers with what she shared so the comments were fun to read. Her comments are in italics:
Our reader in a recent blog post had the opportunity to read The Rover script and shared her thoughts. There are no serious spoilers with what she shared so the comments were fun to read. Her comments are in italics:
- The main script summary: Imagine the old west - but instead of the past; its an downtrodden future where it seems hope is lost and everyone is clawing and clamoring to survive. A man (Eric) making his way through a seemingly lawless wasteland runs into trouble and gets sidetracked when his classic car is stolen. He has to deal with a number of odd characters while trying to get back on course. Rey, a somewhat troubled criminal, has his own journey to travel. Their paths intersect and a sort of friendship occurs. I won't say anymore. Don't want to cause any problems. Can't wait to see what Rob does with this character.
- Characters in the film: Mostly men in it. Only 2 women's speaking roles (3 if you count the old woman speaking Chinese).
- Rey really is a departure from the typical Rob role and I think an excellent choice to break away from his heartthrob movie stereotype. Guys are gonna love this film!
- I'm really looking forward to seeing Rob stretch his wings. After reading The Rover, I can say I'll probably be hiding my eyes for most of the film but the guys will love it. Great storyline and Rey is... well, going to be a fun part for Rob to play.
- What type of movie is it: Lot of gunplay. (Guys will love it.) I wouldn't say thriller. It's a good read. And I imagine it will be a great movie.
- Lead roles: Guy Pierce, if he is playing Eric, is the lead. Rey/Reynolds, the part Rob plays has the second most amount of screen time and is crucial to the movie.
- Character descriptions: I remember Eric is in jeans and a tee. I think Rey and the other 3 from his gang were dressed similarly (the four of them are supposed to be Americans). They are definitely dusty and dirty. (I absolutely DO remember that Rey's shirt comes off a time or two.) The number of accents in this movie is going to be tough. Especially for English Rob who will be doing a Southern (U.S.) accent while speaking to an Aussie, surrounded by Cambodian and Mandarin Chinese. Testing his skills, indeed.
- Answering the question if the future is sci-fi or more realistic: The depth of despair I felt while reading it came from realizing that this could very well be next week or next year. How easily life could be reset back to this kind of existence.

Breathe another sigh of relief, for David Cronenberg is assembling his next film. As was reported just when Cosmopolis had a world premiere, Canada’s best-known cinematic artist is making another endeavor with that film’s star, Robert Pattinson, and his newest favorite collaborator, Viggo Mortensen, on a Hollywood satire called Maps to the Stars. Already good, right? Well, there’s even more too add.
French site Allocine report that Rachel Weisz is now the cast’s third member — who, however, it has not been said — while a production start is being eyed for next May. Described as “very acerbic and satirical” by Cronenberg himself, Maps to the Stars, from what we understand, is a Bruce Wagner-scripted film which revolves around actors and agents, with a specific focus on “two child actors ruined by Hollywood’s depravity.” This central content, no matter if what we’ve heard is even true, has made this a difficult-to-implement project — movement actually began in early 2006, for instance — but when you get (for lack of a better term) stars in line, it can fall together. Respected producer Saïd Ben Saïd doesn’t hurt, either.
They’re good stars, too. Cronenberg has already shown an ability to coax wonderful and unexpected performances from Maps‘ male stars, while, on the other side of the gender coin, I think Weisz has already secured her own image. It’s still a little while off until cameras begin rolling here, but the news should be coming in on and off for the next six months. Tune in, because I think this has a chance of being something special.

The movie will be screened in English with French subtitles. Tickets will go on sale soon.
