MOVIE NEWS: Harmony Korine Confirms Robert Pattinson For 'The Trap' & Says Production Will Start In January

MOVIE NEWS: Harmony Korine Confirms Robert Pattinson For 'The Trap' & Says Production Will Start In January

Harmony Korine spoke to The Film Stage where he confirmed Robert Pattinson's involvement in The Trap along with the news that production would start in January!

From The Film Stage:

Taking in over six times its budget at the worldwide box-office a few years ago, Spring Breakers, like most of Harmony Korine‘s films, was a love-it-or-hate-it experience, but regardless of how one felt, it certainly brought new attention to the director. For those interested about his career and thoughts on filmmaking, he recently sat down with Marc Maron for a 1.5-hour discussion.

In the conversation, Korine discussed the initial images that led to Spring Breakers, how he helped formulate James Franco‘s character, his current distaste for New York City (as well as his formative years there at NYU), and how Kids came about and Larry Clark discovering him. He also touched on his next feature The Trap, which we haven’t heard an update on since early this year. He confirmed the casting of Benicio Del Toro and Idris Elba (who are the two leads) as well as Robert Pattinson and Al Pacino, with production kicking off in January.

Set in the world of Miami music, it follows Del Toro’s character who gets locked up for a robbery involving Elba’s character and nearly 15 years later is back for revenge. Korine described it as “a complete sensory bombardment,” adding “the way I feel about storytelling now is that it’s more like liquid. It has to do more with energy.” He confirms there’s still a story to be told, saying it’s a “super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie.”

Harmony talks about The Trap and mentions Rob from 1:09:20 mark in the video below

MOVIE NEWS NEW ROLE: Robert Pattinson to Star in 'Good Time' Directed By The Safdie Brothers

MOVIE NEWS NEW ROLE: Robert Pattinson to Star in 'Good Time' Directed By The Safdie Brothers
Fantastic news today, The Hollywood Reporter announced an exciting new role for Rob. He'll be starring in Good Time directed by Josh and Benny Safdie. In a recent Reddit Q&A (HERE) the directors have spoken about shooting this fall .

Check out all the details below and also what The Film Stage & The Playlist are saying

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Robert Pattinson will star in neo-grindhouse caper Good Time, which will be directed by Josh and Benny Safdie.

The indie film centers on a bankrobber's flailing efforts to evade the dragnet closing in on him. Pattinson will star as Connie.

Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein wrote the script for the film, which will be produced by Sebastian Bear-MCclard of Elara Pictures.

The Safdie brothers, who recently signed with WME, are indie filmmakers whose most recent project, Heaven Knows What, is currently in theaters. The critically acclaimed film following a young heroin addict (Arielle Holmes) who finds love in the streets of New York was released by Radius-TWC. It previously won the C.I.C.A.E Award at the Venice Film Festival and also played at the Toronto Film Festival and New York Film Festival.

The directing team's previous indie projects include Daddy Longlegs, which played at both the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and the 2010 Sundance Film Festival; the doc Lenny Cook, which followed a star high school basketball player and played at Tribeca and Venice before airing on Showtime in February 2014; and their debut feature, The Pleasure of Being Robbed, which premiered at SXSW in 2008 and also played at the Cannes sidebar Directors' Fortnight before airing on IFC.

Since starring in the vampire franchise phenomenon known as Twilight, Pattinson has focused his efforts on interesting indie roles. He's worked with esteemed directors including David Michod (The Rover), David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis, Maps to the Stars) and Werner Herzog (Queen of the Desert). His upcoming films include The Childhood of a Leader and The Lost City of Z with Sienna Miller and Charlie Hunnam. He's repped by WME and 3 Arts.

From The Film Stage
Few actors coming off the global recognition and financial clout provided by a record-breaking franchise have been able to do so with as much discernment as Robert Pattinson. Films from David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog, Anton Corbijn, and David Michôd are under his belt — and James Gray and Harmony Korine collaborations in the works — and we now have another to add to the forthcoming slate.

THR reports that the actor will lead Good Time, the next picture from Josh and Benny Safdie, who are coming off one of the year’s best films, Heaven Knows What. Described as an “indie neo-grindhouse caper,” it follows a “bankrobber’s flailing efforts to evade the dragnet closing in on him.” Although no additional details are made available yet, we assume Pattinson’s character, Connie, is the bank robber.

It’s scripted by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, and they’ve previously noted there are plans to shoot this fall, presumably after work on James Gray’s Lost City of Z wraps up.

From The Playlist
Robert Pattinson is yet again signed up to work with auteur talent, and I have to say, the prospect of this one sounds pretty great.
Filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie made waves with their addiction drama "Heaven Knows What" and it has attracted the right attention, with Pattinson signing up for their next film, "Good Time." Described as a "neo-grindhouse" flick (I'm already halfway sold on that alone), the actor will play Connie, a bank robber to tries to escape as a dragnet beings to draw closer and closer. That premise sounds perfectly like the stuff of B-movies and I'm intrigued to see how the Safdies tackle that kind of material.

No word on when it might shoot, but presumably it'll have to wait until Pattinson has wrapped James Gray's "Lost City Of Z" which starts shooting later this year.

MOVIE NEWS: Robert Pattinson No Longer Involved In Martin Koolhaven's 'Brimstone'

MOVIE NEWS: Robert Pattinson No Longer Involved In Martin Koolhaven's 'Brimstone'

It was announced today that Robert Pattinson & Mia Wasikowska are no longer involved in Marin Koolhaven's movie Brimstone which started shooting in Europe recently.
I know many of you were (like myself) looking forward to seeing Rob & Guy back working together. They were such a great combo on The Rover. I'm looking forward to the day though that they are reunited and confident that it will happen in the future. Until then we still have plenty of upcoming Rob movies to support.

Screen International reporter Andreas Wiseman tweeted this earlier this morning .........

Which was then followed by this tweet by Brimstone director Martin Koolhaven.......

The Hollywood Reporter and Screen Daily also confirmed that Kit Harington and Dakota Fanning have joined the cast replacing Rob & Mia.

From The Hollywood Reporter:
Kit's character was recently killed off in the shocking season finale of Game of Thrones. In Brimstone, he will play an outlaw who has a crucial role in the tale of retribution, replacing Robert Pattinson who was announced as taking on the role during the Berlin film festival and market.

Fanning stars as Liz, a heroine on the run from her past and chased by the evil Preacher (Pearce). Mia Wasikowska was original cast in Fanning’s role.

From Screen Daily:
Dakota Fanning (Night Moves) and Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) have replaced Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Robert Pattinson (Twilight), respectively, in Martin Koolhoven’s thriller Brimstone, which is now underway in Europe.

Producer Els Vandevorst issued the following statement to Screen about the cast changes: “Mia Wasikowska left the film due to unforeseen personal circumstances and Dakota Fanning immediately jumped into the leading starring role. Kit Harington was so consistently passionate about the script that his enthusiasm and total creative commitment made him a must for the role which had been lined up by Pattinson.”

MOVIE NEWS: Robert Pattinson's 'Brimstone' To Shoot In Germany & Spain In June

Some more Rob movie news today, this time Brimstone. New Sparta Films have announced that they are financing Brimstone and that it will shoot in Germany and Spain in June with a second period of shooting in Romania later in the year.

From New Sparta Films Website :
New Sparta Films (NSF) is delighted to announce its involvement in the financing of Martin Koolhoven’s Brimstone.

“Retribution is coming”

The film, written and directed by Koolhoven and produced by Els Vandervorst of N279 Productions, stars Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson and Carice van Houten and is set to commence shooting in Germany and Spain in June 2015 with a second period of shooting in Romania later in the year.

Brimstone is a triumphant epic of survival, set in the searing wilds of the badlands, the menacing inferno of the Old American West. It is a tale of powerful womanhood and resistance against the unforgiving cruelty of a Hell on earth.

Set against the backdrop of the late 19th Century frontier territory lawlessness, this is a powerful epic thriller with a compelling story and an engaging central female character on a life-threatening mission to escape from, and exact revenge upon, an enigmatic, evil preacher. It is a dark tale, but gripping and emotionally fulfilling.

Robert Pattinson will apparently be smoldering and rocking sex hair in Brimstone. YUP.

Malmo Producer makes film about the Treaty of Versailles with Robert Pattinson

An English-language feature film with Robert Pattinson is about to end. Soon await the big international film about Greta Garbo. The award-winning film producer Helena Danielsson from Malmö has his eyes fixed far beyond the borders of Sweden.

Helena Danielsson has produced such films as "Svinalängorna", "A Rational" and "The Hidden Child". A few weeks ago she came home to Malmö again after making her first English-language feature film in Budapest. A Budapest would imagine Paris in the early 1900s. Behind the movie "The Childhood of a Leader" stands actor Brady Corbet who now makes his directorial debut. Corbet is for certain known from Michael Haneke's American remake of "Funny Games" and for others from the TV series "24". And anyone who has seen Ruben Östlund "Tourist" has seen Corbet in a small supporting role.

- It is not easy if you are a young American to make a film that takes place in France in 1919. This is his dream project and is about the diplomatic negotiations after the First World War, says Helena Danielsson, who three years ago was awarded the fine producer price in Prix Eurimages is the European equivalent of the Oscar.

She came in in "The Childhood of a Leader" project when the whole film work had stalled and it was difficult to fix financing. For the major US film studios, the film was too small. And while it is difficult to American director to get financing European film funds. Then came Helena Danielsson's experience of co-productions and film financing in as a savior.

- It's a little bit about how to look at problems. I was passionate about the movie and saw that I was able to find ways of financing outside the system. They had to be slick, says Helena Danielsson.

Robert Pattinson of "Twilight" films, Stacy Martin ("Nymphomaniac), Bérénice Bejo (" The Artist) and Liam Cunningham ("Game of Thrones") are some of the stars of the film which is now being cut in Paris. Music Legendary Scott Walker makes the music.

- It is a fantastic mix. We are aiming high and hope that we manage to clear the Venice Film Festival.

MOVIE NEWS: Idris Elba joins Robert Pattinson and cast in Harmony Korine's "The Trap"

MOVIE NEWS: Idris Elba joins Robert Pattinson and cast in Harmony Korine's "The Trap"

It's been awhile since we had news about this film. In fact, last time we reported on it, Jamie Foxx was attached and now he's being replaced.

image host

The Hollywood Reporter:
Focus Features is in final talks to to prebuy U.S. rights to Harmony Korine's The Trap, a revenge tale set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene starring Idris Elba as a gangster rap artist and Benicio Del Toro as his best friend who took the fall for a robbery the duo committed years earlier.
Elba is attached to replace Jamie Foxx, with Al Pacino, Robert Pattinson and James Franco also in final talks to join the cast (Del Toro was announced last year).
Korine, who is repped by CAA, has been a hot commodity since the indie hit Spring Breakers, also starring Franco. Grisbi's John Lesher, producer of the Oscar-winning Birdman, is producing Korine's latest outing alongside Charles-Marie Anthonioz at Iconoclast and Marc Schmidheiny at DCM Film.
Focus declined comment but sources say negotiations are at an advanced stage. CAA is arranging financing and representing domestic rights.
In more good news for The Trap, Lionsgate is handling the movie internationally and will likely shop the project to foreign buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
In The Trap, written by Korine, Rico is at the top of his career and about to enjoy a triumphant night at the Grammy Awards when Slim (Del Toro) is released from prison after 14 years. Slim is determined to exact revenge after learning that Rico not only achieved fame and fortune but also married his girlfriend and raised Slim's son as his own.
Slim's plot includes recruiting a crew of Uzi-wielding surfers led by Max (Pattinson), as well as enlisting the help of Rico's cocaine-happy manager (Franco). Pacino plays Slim's parole officer.
Elba, who is represented by WME, is next in theaters with Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1). He also stars in African war drama Beasts of No Nation, which was recently acquired by Netflix and is slated to debut on the streaming service and in select theaters this fall timed to awards season.
Pacino is repped by UTA and manager Rick Nicita. Pattinson is repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment; Franco by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
UPDATE: Collider says production is on track to begin this summer in Miami.

I love that Focus Features is also looking to pre-buy this title for the US. Distribution of Rob's indies is a contentious issue with me. And HOH! Al Pacino??? That's fantastic!

And we so know Rob will be ready for a surfing role. ;)

We'll keep you posted on the news and you can follow our movie account for the film on twitter: @TheTrap_Film

MICA Entertainment has come on board to finance the movie, which Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing via Plan B Entertainment along with Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Marc Butan is executive producing, as are MICA’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray.

Sierra/Affinity will continue to handle international sales of the title at this year’s European Film Market. CAA represents the domestic rights to the film. Production is slated to start this summer.

Werner Herzog about Robert Pattinson as T.E. Lawrence: "He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural."

 photo WernerHerzogampRobertPattinson.jpg

We have two films to look forward to in 2015 and both of them have Rob tackling real life characters. T.E. Lawrence is arguably the better known character and Werner Herzog has nothing but praise to give Rob for his take on the iconic figure in Queen of the Desert.

Translation by PAW of Bande à Part:
Can you tell us more about your next movie 'Queen Of The Desert'?
In less than ten days, I will start the mixing. The filming and editing are completed and I should be able to put an end to the movie in the first days of december.I don't know where or when it will be shown for the first time.
The cast is really impressive: Nicole Kidman, James Franco, Robert Pattinson...
They all really wanted to work with me. I was asked why I chose Pattinson. It's not a big part, and it matched perfectly. I needed an englishman who still looks like a schoolboy but which is very smart. He plays Lawrence of Arabia, but at the age of 22, on an archeological site. Kidman, who plays the main role is wondering what that kid has to do in a place like this, and an archeologist tells her that this kid has a PhD.Pattinson is really good in that role. He is a smart man and the choice was quite natural.
If you understand French, here's the original text:
Pouvez-vous nous dire quelques mots sur 'Queen of the Desert', votre prochain film?
Dans moins de dix jours, je vais débuter le mixage. Le tournage et le montage sont terminés et je devrais pouvoir mettre un point final au film dans les premiers jours de décembre. Je ne sais ni quand, ni où il sera montré en premier.
Le casting est très prestigieux: Nicole Kidman, James Franco, Robert Pattinson…
Ils voulaient tous vraiment travailler avec moi. On m’a demandé pourquoi j’avais choisi Pattinson.

VIDEO: Brady Corbet & Mona Fastvold Talk About 'The Childhood Of A Leader' With IonCinema & Eye For Film

While promoting their film, The Sleepwalker, Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold talked about The Childhood of a Leader with IonCinema and Eye For Film.

Check out this video interview from IonCinema. The Childhood of A Leader talks starts around the 9:40 mark.

And here's an excerpt from their interview with Eye For Film:
Mona Fastvold and Corbet’s upcoming project, The Childhood of a Leader, which he is going to direct, will star Bérénice Bejo, Tim Roth, Stacy Martin and Robert Pattinson. The script is influenced by everyone from John Fowles and Jean-Paul Sartre, to Volker Schlöndorff’s Young Törless. I suggested checking out Christian Kracht’s cinematic novel Imperium in the Norwegian translation for last minute reading, as pre-production begins next week.

AKT: Tell me about the next projects. Brady: The next film we’re making, I’m directing what Mona and I wrote together and we’re working together very closely from beginning to end as we did with this one. Basically, what determines who takes the lead is just whose story it is to tell.

Mona: And who is not giving birth to a baby.

Brady: And who is not giving birth to a baby. We’re making a film called The Childhood Of A Leader. It’s a historical film, which is one of the reasons why it’s been so difficult to put it together.

AKT: Historical set in what time?

Brady: 1919 mostly. It’s Bérénice Bejo, Tim Roth, Stacy Martin and Robert Pattinson. It’s about a family that relocates to France for the Paris Peace Conference and about the events leading up to the Treaty of Versailles, partially. It’s funny, whereas this project [The Sleepwalker] was about subverting the clichés of psycho-sexual thrillers, this is a historical film that’s not really a historical film. It’s about the childhood of a would-be-fascist. We’ll start shooting in January.

Rob teased us several times before about working with Harmony Korine soon. Rob said Harmony is writing a gangster movie set in Miami with a role specifically for him and Harmony Korine talked to Maxim in September about what this film will be like:
What's your next big project?
I can’t go into super specifics, but it’s like, it’s gonna be my most next-level movie. This is actually the first time I’m talking about it. It’s kind of a sprawling revenge film. It’s pretty, like, full on. I’m gonna put everything I know as a film maker into it. I think it’s gonna be a pretty substantial film. I’m gonna shoot it in Miami right after the New Year.
Harmony also shared good details with Bullett also back in September:
Did [Al Pacino] give you any tips on the Southern Gothic gangster project you’re working on?
Well actually, it’s all done! The script is written. I’m putting the cast together right now, it’s going to be my most ambitious film, and I’m really just going to go for it. It’s some next level shit. It’s a revenge movie, a sprawling, very intense… I don’t want to give away too much, but we’re probably going to start shooting in Miami after the New Year. I’m goin’ for it.
Any particular reason why Miami?
Yeah, just the way the sky looks.
And you’ve got Robert Pattinson locked down?
It’ll have a substantial cast.
Now we have some official casting announcements made. Jamie Foxx and Benicio Del Toro.

Variety:
“Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine, for the first time in his career, has cast an Oscar-winning actor to star in his movie. Sources tell Variety that Jamie Foxx is attached to topline ensemble gangster drama “The Trap.” Korine will write and direct the feature, which the controversial filmmaker behind “Kids” and “Trash Humpers” has described as “his most ambitious film to date.” Benicio del Toro is also attached to star. John Lesher and Charles-Marie Anthonioz are producing the film. Plot details on “The Trap” are being kept under wraps. The revenge pic is expected to shoot early next year in Miami. Following the success of of his last project, “Spring Breakers,” which earned Korine and star James Franco critical acclaim, more A-list talent should circle the gangster drama.
THR:
Benicio Del Toro is joining Jamie Foxx in The Trap, a Southern revenge movie written and to be directed by Spring Breakers helmer Harmony Korine. The script is a crime thriller centering on two childhood friends now in their mid-to-late 30s — one of whom is very successful and the other has spent the majority of his adult life in jail. On the eve of a big recognition for the successful man, the other is released from jail and determined to get even. John Lesher and Charles-Marie Anthonioz are producing the film, which is slated to shoot early next year.
Rob isn't officially cast yet but we'll keep you posted. The Childhood of a Leader and The Lost City of Z still seem to be on Rob's slate but no specific dates for production are locked.
