The Wrap reported today that Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman' release date has been pushed four months to October 1st 2021.

From The Wrap:
“The Batman” movie from Matt Reeves had its release date pushed four months and the film will now be released on Oct. 1, 2021, Warner Bros announced on Monday.

The film was originally set to be released on June 25, 2021. Production had begun in the U.K. earlier this year on the latest DC Films project, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. The studio suspended production on the film last month amid coronavirus concerns.

A pause on our DoR today while we discuss the potential for The Batman to be pushed back.

Excerpt from Variety:
Sources tell Variety that most studios are letting talent and their reps know that at this point they do not expect these stalled productions to get back underway until mid-May at the earliest. When most of these shutdowns were first announced, studios hinted that it was possible that people could go back to work in April. But even May could be overly optimistic — the pandemic is not expected to reach its apex in major production hubs like New York City until the end of April.

Studios won’t be able to go back to work until local governments lift the bans on gatherings of more than 10 people, a number that most sets routinely eclipse. One source believes that the first films to resume production will likely be ones that are shooting in the U.S., as the prospect of filming overseas presents too many logistical challenges given the global nature of COVID-19.

Not only are studios focused on ensuring the safety of their casts and crews, they are also trying to figure out how to accommodate talent that had lined up other productions in the coming months. Right now the expectation is that in-demand stars such as Chris Pratt in “Jurassic World: Dominion” or Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in “Red Notice” will be able to convince forthcoming productions to move their start dates further into the future so they can finish shooting. Individuals in supporting roles who have larger parts in upcoming productions will likely have to drop out, and insiders say studio executives are already checking in on the availability of other actors who can serve as possible replacements.

...
Other major movies were fairly far along when the virus began to intensify. “The Matrix 4” had finished shooting in San Francisco and was about to begin production in Berlin, “The Batman” had completed nearly seven weeks of filming in London, and “Red Notice” had been in the works for two months in Atlanta. There’s an outside chance these films might even make their original release dates, although it is more likely they will be moved back.

I don't think this puts Rob at a disadvantage. Batman as a superhero will always draw attention no matter when you release a Batman film. This being a relaunch of a massive superhero benefits from more distance from the Affleck version and the Snyder universe. I know superhero films are the big moneymakers for studios but I also feel many are rushed and I definitely feel the way WB/DC have been running things post-Marvel dominance has been rushed and sloppy. I want Rob as The Batman yesterday but I'm trying to see the silver lining. That's my 2 cents. What do you all think?

From Deadline:
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. joins other studios in temporarily stopping production on big pics, the latest being the studio’s reboot of The Batman starring Robert Pattinson in the title role.

Word was that production was re-locating from London to Liverpool in the UK and out of safety in the current coronavirus climate, Warners just decided to halt shooting for the time being. Again, no one from the cast or crew has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Warner Bros. Pictures feature production of The Batman will be on a two-week hiatus starting today. The studio will continue to monitor the situation closely” the Burbank lot informed in a statement.

GREAT interview with The Playlist while Rob is promoting The Lighthouse.

An excerpt:
I moderated a Q&A last night with Robert and Max [Eggers] and Robert kept saying that if he didn’t think you were wet enough he would take the hose and spray it on you.
I mean, even if I was the most patient person and this was my job, if my director kept doing that, it might annoy me a bit. I mean, it’s kind of fun. It’s like anything which is these extreme things to react to it allows for [a] more extreme performance and Roberts one of the only people I’ve ever worked with who never says… I’ve never done a movie like this where you were never told to tone it down, ever. It provokes a really kind of primal instinct in you when you’ve got a fire hose in your face and you’re kind of like, I don’t know, you really rage against it. It’s kind of fun.

Outside of “Good Time,” I think this is, for lack of a better word, the most “passionate” character you’ve had? It’s the most angry that I’ve seen you on screen ever, maybe? At least for more than one scene. When I asked Robert about that, he thought it was because no one has offered you a role like this before. Do you agree with him? Or do you feel like you found something in this film?
I mean it is a quite unusual role. There’s a couple of speeches at the end when there are two kind of key moments when the character is so drunk he can’t distinguish whether he is himself or the person that he’s talking to. I was like, “O.K., so that’s the level of drunk and it’s pretty high.” And then a few of the last scenes when he’s just really, really losing his mind and they were just so funny and sort of wild and you just knew that you could feel how much you needed to rev yourself up for it and I don’t know. I guess, yeah, I guess it’s just the part really. I mean there’s very few scenes where people, yeah, where people do like rage for a sustained period of time. But I think it’s one of the most fun things to play. I’ve always been sort of on the lookout for it, but it’s actually quite rare to find.

This movie is definitely rare, in many ways, but it’s exciting how well it’s doing at the box office. I don’t know if you’ve seen, but the numbers for the expansion are fantastic. Does that give you hope that in this era of blockbusters, these sorts of movies will keep getting made?
I think it’s incredible. I mean, I’ve done some weird movies. [Laughs.] And this is definitely [a] pretty weird movie and to see that there’s a hunger for it. And I mean it’s pretty, it’s great. And hopefully, it’s a harbinger of where things are going to go in the movie industry. I just always look at movies that are coming out. Like I was talking about this with [producer] David Crane about movies and things like “Existenz” and stuff like that. They could be an art-house movie that was also mainstream and that will be wonderful for me because that’s exactly the type of movies I want to make. But yeah, seeing people go to it and be excited about it? It’s sort of a strange kind of event movie, like a certain uber of people.

Zoë Kravitz cast as Catwoman in Robert Pattinson's The Batman!

Zoë Kravitz cast as Catwoman in Robert Pattinson's The Batman!

GAAAAHHH!!! Major casting alert!
Excerpt from Variety:
“Big Little Lies” star Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman, the antiheroine and sometime love interest of the Caped Crusader, in Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman.”
Kravitz will star opposite Robert Pattinson as Batman.
In recent weeks, the role came down to Kravitz, Zazie Beetz of “Atlanta,” “Deadpool 2” and “Joker,” “Baby Driver’s” Eiza Gonzalez and Oscar winner Alicia Vikander. Ultimately, Kravitz won out, despite some worry about scheduling issues with “Fantastic Beasts.”
Pre-production on the Warner Bros.-DC Comics pic is expected to start this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders tell Variety that filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020. “The Batman” is scheduled to hit theaters June 25, 2021.
Excerpt from THR:
The decision came down over the weekend after a rigorous testing process that saw saw Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska, Eiza Gonzalez and Kravitz read with Robert Pattinson, who is set to play the Dark Knight. The testing process occurred over the first week of the month, and the four were then narrowed to two late last week.
I'm sooooooooo ready!!! Are you into it???
