FANTASTIC NEWS!
Such a great cast. Is anyone else excited for this movie?
From
Deadline:
Canadian giant Entertainment One will team with Martin Katz’s Prospero Pictures to back David Cronenberg’s upcoming ensemble thriller Maps To The Stars. Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Sarah Gadon are to star in the ghost story that’s described as a scathing attack on celebrity-obsessed LA. The script is by Wild Palms‘ Bruce Wagner.
EOne will also handle worldwide sales, which it plans to launch in Cannes next month, and distribute in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia/NZ. Production starts in July in Toronto and LA. This is Cronenberg and Katz’s fourth collaboration. Katz and SBS Films’ Saïd Ben Saïd are producing. Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab, Cronenberg’s manager, will exec produce. EOne’s Benedict Carver is also exec producing and will oversee for the studio. Integral Films’ Alfred Hurmer is co-producing.
From
ThePlayList:
Julianne
Moore, John Cusack and Sarah Gadon are all now joining the picture,
which seems to be moving full steam ahead. Plot details on the movie,
penned by Bruce Wagner, have been scarce, except that it will be a
trenchant look at Hollywood and celebrity culture. But Deadline adds
that it's also a "ghost story," which certainly raises an intrigued
eyebrow. The cast is top shelf (though it seems Viggo Mortensen is no
longer taking a role, or at least isn't mentioned), with Moore and
Cusack working with Cronenberg for the first time. Meanwhile, it will be
Gadon's third round with the Cronenberg brood, featuring in
"Cosmopolis" and "A Dangerous Method" and Cronenberg Jr.'s "Antiviral."
The movie will be available to buyers next at Cannes and will
start shooting in July. eOne will distribute the film in the U.S.,
Canada, UK and Australia/New Zealand.
From
Screencrush:
There are some directors who seem to be able to summon great casts
with a simple snap of their fingers and the great David Cronenberg is
one of them. His latest film, ‘Maps to the Stars,’ has not only secured
financing, but a cast that includes Robert Pattinson, John Cusack and
Julianne Moore.
The news comes via Deadline, who say the film is a “…ghost story
that’s described as a scathing attack on celebrity-obsessed LA.”
Although Cronenberg made his name with nasty little genre movies like
‘Scanners’ and ‘The Fly,’ he’s spent the better part of a decade
straying away from horror and making movies like ‘A History of Violence’
and ‘Eastern Promises,’ so the thought of him making a ghost story is
intriguing and exciting. The fact that it apparently has satiric
elements as well only makes the film (which was written by Bruce Wagner)
all the more interesting.
As for the cast, Pattinson was the lead in Cronenberg’s last film,
the incredibly divisive ‘Cosmopolis,’ so it looks like the two of them
may have a Scorsese/DiCaprio thing going on right now. And, of course,
it’s hard to go wrong with actors as consistently strong as Cusack and
Moore. We don’t know who any of them are playing, but you’ll be the
first to know when we find out.
