Chicago Breaking News video

Chicago Breaking News has a piece about the craziness that's surrounding Robert Pattinson. You can watch it HERE

"Bite me."

It's a request British actor Robert Pattinson gets almost daily as star of the new vampire film "Twilight" (opening Nov. 21).

pattinson.jpg

"It's crazy," said Pattinson, 22, waiting inside Orland Square's Hot Topic store. He has to laugh, pretend he hasn't heard it before.

"Even if you say, 'No,' they just wait," he says. "They just stand there."

Tonight, more than 500 fans waited outside -- some since the night before -- to ask him the same question or something in that vein. One fan, Orland Park's Abby Johnson, wore a self-made T-shirt that read: "Edward Cullen Make Me Immortal" (Edward is Pattinson's fanged alter ego.)

As the clock reached 6 p.m., the time he'd start signing autographs, the crowd started screaming, counting down, "Three; two; one;" Chaos.

"Oh my God," said Pattinson, laughing nervously at the uproar. "Are they going to blow [the place] up?"

Mostly, they just filed in peacefully, gushing and smiling -- though for the public Q&A session later, the crowd seemed to have swelled to a frenzied mass.

In what follows, Pattinson talks about his new movie, immortality and Doctor Who.

Q - What does Edward, a 108-year-old vampire, see in a 17-year-old girl?

A - He's lived for 108 years, but he still has the same brain as a 17-year-old. He experiences the world as a 17-year-old. He's kind of mature in some ways. But if you were in the body of a 17-year-old, I don't think you'd go for a 108-year-old woman.

Q - But why high school? For you personally, wouldn't 80 years of high school be hell?

A - Definitely. I would hate it. That was one of the most difficult things to figure out. You think he'd stay in college, or be a street kid. It'd be way cooler. But I think the whole concept of it is: He's like an addict. I think he wants to make his life really, really, really boring.

Q - This question is from Jennifer Armour, a fan waiting in line. David Tennant, the current star of "Doctor Who," is quitting in 2010. Would you consider taking up the mantle?

A - The Doctor is great. ... Yeah, maybe. I did grow up watching it. I loved it when I was a kid. In fact, I met one of them the other day, Sylvester McCoy [the seventh Doctor]. He's one of the few people I've asked for an autograph.

The way the event was handled brought criticism from some fans.

Promoters of the event had said they would sell at 7 a.m. 500 admittance wristbands to the meet-and-greet.

The only problem was that by midnight the crowd waiting outside the mall in the wind and cold rain had far exceeded 500 and a decision was made to distribute the wristbands about seven hours early.

"The crowd kept growing and growing and growing," said Darrell Kinsley, a marketing representative for the Hot Topic clothing store chain that is sponsoring Pattinson's tour to promote his upcoming movie based on the "Twilight" series of books adored by young girls.

"We were worried about the welfare of the people standing out here. We didn't want people to stand in line for seven hours and not get in."

The first three in line--Stacy York, 26, Jennifer Popplewell, 26, and Armour, 22--left their home town of Indianapolis at 10 p.m. and got here at about midnight to be the first in line for the star.

"It isn't just 'Twilight' that brought us here,' said Armour.

"It's his previous work," said Popplewell.

Armour continued, "We like his other work, such as 'The Bad Mother's Handbook' (a TV drama in the UK) and 'The Haunted Airman' (another TV drama in the UK)."

Disappointed fans who showed up later this morning, only to find they had been shut out, protested.

"It's false advertising," Vanessa Vasquez said. "They said 7:30 today. I would have been here to get tickets on time."

NBC Chicago Interview

He still thinks its just Edward, no Rob its just you.
Vid cuts off a little at the end, but there is no follow up posted on the news site so maybe more to come?

Rob in Chicago leaning in to hear the crowd.

He is so accommodating it is ridiculous, look at him trying to hear the fan questions.
No wonder we adore him.

Robert Pattinson itunes Celebrity Playlist

Below is Rob's playlist and in his words why he chose each of these songs. Gosh he is an insightful one isn't he?

"C-Jam Blues" by Oscar Peterson: "What I learned how to play blues piano riffs from. Peterson was the best."

"Soldier Sender" by John Lee Hooker: "If I could have a song as a wife..."

"Soft" by Kings of Leon: "I've always thought that I really relate to the lyrics of this even though I don't really know what they are. I love the singer's enunciation in all their songs. They are pretty much the only modern band I can say I am a fan of."

"Cold Sweat" by James Brown: "This song hits me just as hard every time I've heard it since I was a little kid and I listened to James Brown on the way to school."

"Dean" by Terry Reid: "I love Terry Reid. I love the schizophrenic decisions he makes towards the end of this song when he's choosing what notes to sing.Terry Reid was just one of those guys like James Brown who when they got into a groove, it just seemed like they'd want to keep singing the same line, let alone the same song, all night."

"Stepping Out Queen, Pt. II" by Van Morrison: "Another guy who has such a visionary and unique take on what structure in songwriting is, what singing is, and what can be achieved emotioanlly and spiritually through music."

"Lengths" by The Black Keys: "Another new band I like. This is a beautiful song. I like how it's produced. This whole album is great."

"One Mo'gin" by D'Angelo: "I love D'Angelo. I used to always try and sing like him when I was younger and embarrassingly fail. I like his pronunciation when he sings. I think when you try and write lyrics and you think that there is no way the listener will figure out what you're saying or what you mean, you write much more honestly. I think."

"Blue Monday People" by Curtis Mayfield: "Got inspired by putting D'Angelo on. This whole album is amazing. The production on it is incredible. A really interesting album which not a lot of people listen to. Don't know why."

"Brown Trout Blues" by Johnny Flynn: "I grew up with some amazing musicians in London who are still my friends. Marcus Foster, Bobby Long and Sam Bradley are recording their albums now, but Johnny Flynn completed his one a while ago. I just saw him play in L.A. and he was incredible. But he's always been incredible so I can't say I was surprised. Get this album it's great and no one else does music like him at all."

"Ambulance Blues" by Neil Young: "One of the most moving songs ever written or recorded. I used to listen to the line 'I guess I'll call it sickness gone' on repeat for hours when I wanted to try and write something."

"A Whiter Shade of Pale" by King Curtis: "Just a beautiful song. Reminds me of the end of Withnail and I."

"Ruby's Arms" by Tom Waits: "My favorite Tom Waits song. I cry almost every time I hear it. Plays over an amazing scene in one of my favorite movies too - Prenom Carmen."

"(First) Essay for Orchestra, Op. 12" by Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Yoel Levi: "This song just hurts, it's so beautiful."

"T.B. Sheets" by Van Morrison: "Only Vam Morrison can do a performance like this. No one else has come close."

Dallas recap from Mindy :-))

She got to go yesterday and be half deafened by the tweens :) Here is her recap.

I did take the day off yesterday to attempt to see our lovely man at the Galleria in Dallas. It was, as we say in the aviation business, a MAJOR "Charlie Foxtrot" (Cluster Fuck) as Jules will attested to my frantic, exhausted call yesterday morning.

We DIDN'T get to meet him but we DID get on the 3rd row from the front at the "Question & Answer" (what a JOKE!) after the Hop Popic fiasco. Sorry Jules if my voice mail was a little incoherent, I was going on 24 hours with no sleep by the time I called you & we were in the afterglow from being in the presence of his perfection & adorableness.

Most of the pics (but not all:) & video are pretty crappy - you can see but not hear 'cos all the tweeny SCREAMING & the fact that just as Rob came on stage the WHOLE SOUND SYSTEM crapped out. It was basically 15 minutes of him being on stage surrounded by 1000's of people saying "what do you want me to do?" & being awkward. He was beautiful anyway & just as precious as always altho I would have given my right boob to be able to buy him a drink or two afterwards!

That baby deserves a gold zipper medal for being such a good sport & putting up with all this ridiculousness.

I will get back with you hopefully tomorrow with some evidence of the evening's events.

~Mindy

Catherine talks about steamy Rob :-))

MTV: Were you gasping back in the day, when you had Robert and Kristen [Stewart] audition by sitting down on your bed and practicing that scene?

Hardwicke: I kinda was, actually. [Laughs.] I was trying to be cool, but I started to realize, "This is gonna be steamy, this is gonna be hot, this is gonna get people going."

MTV: A lot of these actors have found their stocks quickly rising. Who, in your opinion, has handled it the best?

Hardwicke: Well, Rob and Kristen have both done a great job of dealing with all the madness and the excitement, because they're both very serious and dedicated to their craft, and they're looking for excellent work that challenges them. So I think they look at every script that comes to them and think what the challenges can be: "What can I make out of this? How can I make this significant and wonderful?"

Fame takes a big bite out of 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson

Examiner.com had an interview with Rob and here it is :-))
Twilight is the most anticipated film of the season but even headliner Robert Pattinson can't grasp the enormity of its popularity—or his for that matter.

"I feel as if I’ve been in this Twilight bubble where I never see the outside world," the 22-year-old star said during a blink-and-you-miss-him press tour through The City earlier this week. " I get a lot of people saying, 'How does it feel to be an overnight sensation?' But I literally have not been to a restaurant in such a long time. I have no idea what my real life is like any more. Maybe when the film comes out and I go back to London, I can actually see what the real difference is."

The movie, which opens nationwide Nov. 21, is based on the 2005 "young adult" bestseller of the same name by Stephanie Meyer. It chronicles the life, love and angst of teen vamp Edward Cullen, whose extraordinary powers and sense of perception captures the attention of Bella, played by Kristen Stewart. Interestingly enough, Pattinson, who had stints in two Harry Potter films, didn't read the "Twilight" novels before auditioning for the lead role.

"I was living in England and it wasn’t big there," he says. "I actually tried to read it five months before when somebody had told me about it, and I read a few pages, and I thought, 'Oh, this isn’t my thing.' And I didn’t know that there was a phenomenon. I thought it was a little bit 'girly.' But then I read the script and it cut out a lot of the descriptions Edward was saying. It read more like an action script. So later, I went back to the book afterward and saw what the differences had been. I looked at a bit more objectively. I liked the book better when I came back to it the second time."

As for mentally crawling into the skin of Edward, Pattinson noted that his biggest pressure was worrying about "Edward having to be attractive."

"I mean that was the thing in the book—the key thing was that he be attractive," he adds. "And it was especially challenging when you’re trying to be frightening and pretty at the same time. It’s quite a complicated scenario, especially when you have to stay PG-13.

Is he saying he doesn't think he's attractive? "I think I am attractive … in some ways," Pattinson laughs. "Definitely a little bit shy."

There was also the pressure of Twilight being Pattinson's first American film. "I had a lot to think about in terms of the franchise—think about three films," he says. "And for that there has to be a matrix laid out, which is quite a heavy workload. And a lot of the movie, I guess I am kind of responsible for it. I haven’t done anything 'big,' which I feel responsible for. I had no real experience of having to hold a film myself.”

Fans of the book don't seem worried. There's so much online buzz, no doubt the film will take home the Number One spot in its opening weekend. In the meantime, Pattinson has already dashed off to another city for yet another round of promotional interviews. Asked whether he believed in the supernatural, and vampires, in particular, the young actor sighed and quipped: "I barely know any 'humans,' so I guess I can’t really guess."

MSN Interview w/ Rob

Robert Pattinson Sinks His Teeth Into Twilight

Most young actors begin their careers insecurely humble (and quickly turn arrogantly entitled), so I prod Pattinson just a bit. To get to this stage in his career, there's got to be a little bit of talent involved, no?
"I have been phenomenally lucky considering I never started out trying to be an actor," Pattinson says. "It's funny because in all these things, so many actors say, 'Oh, the press, that's the actual job. Publicity and blah, blah, blah.' I try to spend as much of my life making it as easy as possible, and most actors say, 'I like to make the job as easy as possible and all the other stuff is so hard.' So, when they are doing press, they are so serious and that makes it so boring. But I like to make the jobs as hard as possible and stress myself out about everything, and then afterwards it's like you are yourself when you are doing [publicity]. Am I even answering your question?"

New Interview on GoodPradde.com Part 1

I just love this picture...makes me think 'good praddle'.

This interview was done over the summer.
Twilight has been driving everybody bonkers for a while, and the advent of the current film adaptation is only adding to the frenzy. Its main characters, teenagers both of them, vampire Edward Cullen and human Bella Swan, have captured the hearts of millions and readers. I have never read these books, but the person who has come closest to persuading me to do so is actor Robert Pattinson, who portrays Edward in the soon-to-be-released film.
Hi!How’re you doing?
I’m good; how are you?
I’m all right, thank you.How is L.A.?
[laughs] It’s all right. It’s hot.Out of curiosity—I know you were born and raised in London—when did you move out to L.A.?Well, I haven’t really moved here. I’m just kind of… I’m essentially here for Twilight-related stuff, like promotion. But I’m doing in a movie in a few weeks, so I just thought I might as well stay out here. I’ve been here for about three months.
Wow. Well, yeah, Twilight’s been getting a lot of publicity. How did you get involved with it?
The normal way, I guess. I was out in L.A., and it was just through an audition. And then I came out for two weeks for a whole bunch of meetings—and I’d never heard of it before or anything. It came completely unexpectedly.
And you’d never read the books before you became involved with the movie, so when did you realize that it was this huge phenomenon?
I guess only during shooting—about halfway through shooting the movie. I think everyone who was involved in it only realized it then. [laughs] I don’t really think even the production company knew how big it was going to become. It’s interesting, but as we were shooting it sort of got bigger and bigger and bigger, and more and more people started turning up to the set every day. By the end there were all these people coming out to the set who’d managed to find out where it was, which a was very strange experience.
The relationship between the characters is kind of like Edward goes, “Every day, I really want to kill you, you don’t understand,” and Bella goes, “I don’t care, I love you!” Which is really kind of sick, when you think about it.
Well, I don’t know if it’s sick, really; I guess it’s kind of—well, the whole thing is that you can only have that kind of love story when you’re young and you’re sort of overcome by your emotions and it seems so life-or-death. I think that’s kind of what it is. There’s a lot of the metaphorical aspect as well; I mean, the entire story is kind of a metaphor. [laughs] But, yeah, I guess that’s what makes the story different, just the fact that it is—when you feel like it’s a life-or-death situation in a relationship and a new relationship and you’re in love with someone for the first time, well, this is just the literal interpretation of that. Like— [laughs] “This is actually causing both of us to be in grave danger just by being together.”

Go here for the rest...its kinda long to post the whole interview.

You can actually see and hear everything that he is saying this time around.

Dallas recap from a fan

Oops, sorry I was sent this email and thought it was from that person sending but this is apparently from imdb.

Just_Gangel
on imdb had this to say:

So we just got back from the Q and A and it was rather crazy. The organizers of the event did well with security but when it was time for Rob to come on stage they were having so much trouble with the audio. The mics kept sending feedback and we could barely here what they were saying.

When Rob walked out the screaming was intense as expected. But he was genuinely shocked because the way the Galleria is set up, there were fans looking down into the venue from all three floors. He had this really cute look of horror on his face.

It was really awesome seeing him come out on stage but I felt so bad for him when it was time for the questions. We literally could not understand a single word because the audio feedback and the general space of the room and all of the screaming was awful. The best part though was all of Rob's reactions. He knew he couldn't be heard but the hostess just kept asking questions.

The funniest part though was when Rob did this weird spin ( he does this when his extremely nervous i.e. the Austin film fest footage) and he stumbled to the ground a little. I didn't get a video of it but I've never laughed so hard. Poor guy handled it well I think.

Fear Net reviews Rob's Music

Well they actually review the soundtrack but below is the part about Rob.

Thanks to AJ for this find :-)

Rob Pattinson, who plays Edward in the film, is a musician himself, and contributes the simple and effective “Never Think,” an inclusion that refreshingly doesn't come off as a crass marketing gimmick (“OMG, teen vamp hottie sings!”) thanks to his superb vocal skills. Actually, word has it director Catherine Hardwicke quickly opted for the song after hearing a CD of Pattinson's earlier material. If he ends up riding the film's in-the-bag success to a decent recording contract, I'd wager he's off to a pretty good start here, and could be a name to watch in the future.

The review of the full soundtrack can be found here.

Info about Rob's Much Music Appearance-November 15th

Here is some info from our own Amy :-) We think y'all should make way for Amy to meet Rob because she is all kinds of awesome and works hard to keep this site up to date!

Some news about the MuchMusic event here in Toronto on the 15th. Wristbands were given out today and apparently a few hundred people - around 300 or so were lining the block around the Chum building to get them.(see the above picture) And yesterday people were camped out all night to get them as well - Seems like everyone here is super excited for their appearance!!! So there will also be a stage outside so the interview will be conducted inside and outside as well - which is very good news :) They do this all the time for stars with a large fan base and because A LOT of people could potentially show up to this because the building is on a corner block and there is a lot of standing room. All in all, sounds like their appearance here is going to be awesome.

Amy also says: And she says:

This makes me smile. My fellow Canadian fans waiting in the freezing cold to get wristbands, haha. Can I just say to all the people who waited, YOU ROCK.

Stephenie Talking about Rob

collider.com has an interview with Stephenie and here is the part about Rob. You can read the rest by clicking the link.

Question: Dealing directly with actors, do you have any connection with Robert?

Stephanie Meyer: A little bit, a little bit. With Rob actually, we sat down and talked about Edward’s character before the filming started and I'd just come in and met everyone. It wasn’t an argument, but we actually disagree on his character. I’d be like, 'No, this is how it is.' He’s like, 'No, it’s definitely this way.' And the funny part about it, you know, is here we are arguing about a fictional character and yet in the performance he did what he wanted and yet it was still exactly what I wanted. So that was really cool.

LA Times- Peter Facinelli on Rob

Peter mentions Rob and how he is handling the pressure of being in the most anticipated film of the year.

How are you all handling the pressure?

I feel for Robert. He didn’t sign up for this knowing what it would become. The fan base has grown even since when we filmed it. There were underground fans when we started. I remember we’d all go to their web sites and they all said, ‘All these actors are wrong for the roles. Facinelli doesn’t have blonde hair -- what are they thinking?’

For Rob, he just signed up thinking it’d be a cool little movie. All of a sudden he’s like the James Dean of today. That’s a lot put on a guy’s shoulders, but hopefully he’ll be OK. He’s kind of nerve racked. He doesn’t like to leave his apartment a lot. But I think it’ll be good. This will bring good things to him.

Does anyone EVER get tired of seeing this picture?

Someone from IMDB caught TRL today and some people from MTV were at the Press Junket this weekend and this is what they asked K Stew and Rob:
To Kristen: What is the best part about playing Bella Swan to Kristen she said, "Um, you get to kiss Edward Cullen. um...i don't know! *smile*"
To Robert: What is the best part about playing Edward Cullen? he said, "You get to kiss Kristen Stewart, um you get to wear a nice pea coat, and your hair is never out of place. *smile* *laugh*"

I just love these two people they are so edible it is ridiculous!
I hope someone recorded it and posts it on YouTube because that is just so cute.
