Remember Me, Robert Pattinson, overshadows New Moon

As the New Moon breaks records, attention should be brought to a trailer with a release date in March of 2010. No, not Eclipse, but rather Remember Me, a film which could legitimize Robert Pattinson as an actor and not just a Teen Beat cover boy.

Remember me is filled with an amazing cast: the impeccable, Academy Award winner Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan and Lena Olin. Robert is enlisted to play Tyler, a poetic misfit, who wants to be his own man but does not know how to find the path to becoming one. His father, portrayed by Brosnan, does not know what to do with him, which only leads to Tyler’s greater alienation.

Until, he meets Ally who gives him a spark at a real relationship. She is quirky as is he, so it just might be ideal. That is, until her father played by Cooper steps in as the cop who busted Tyler earlier on with whom only tensions rise between them as Tyler’s relationship with Ally grows.

Yes, this sounds like every other lost teenage romance film, with the idea of “To hell with everyone else!” This film is directed by Allen Coulter who has directed primarily television shows (as well as the very underrated Hollywoodland) but therein lies the potential strength of this film. His resume includes The Sopranos, Rome (HBO), Six Feet Under and Sex in the City. All of these shows have one major thread in common. They are very character-driven. Which is good news for Pattinson fans.

Additionally, the movie will bring together a formidable love interest in Emilie de Ravin who plays Ally. She has great charisma and shines forth on the screen. This will be a much better pairing than Robert and Kristin, screen-wise.

If the trailer is any indication, Remember Me promises to be the one film Pattinson does that will not be forgotten.

This is so nice to heat, especially from a man.

I really belive in this film and in Rob.. and think after this movie they will hopefully stop calling him that vampire guy.

This movie is going to be so inspiring, and emotional.. And show a side of him that we haven't even seen if him yet.

I think Remember Me looks really good. Hope it gives Rob "credibility" beyond Edward. Not that Edward isn't some nice eye candy and escapism!

the trailer looks so awesome. can't wait for this movie. read the script i know Robler is gonna make us cry. i'm more excited to see rob in this movie than the twilight series :)

I'm so happy to see a lot of critics are lovin' the RM trailer and Rob's acting in it!! I'm so excited for this to come out!

RPlover said...

even the second time I went to see NM they didn't show the RM trailer! {sob} the first time I went it was a matinee and the second time it was the late show, so I was so hoping...

I already love this movie and I've only seen the trailer (a couple dozen times, but still). I know he's going to be brilliant, and I know that this movie can stand on its own. If every interview he does for this makes comparisons from Tyler to Edward I'm going to be so pissed! Very excited for RM. :)

Seriously, this movie will be the death of me !
I completely agree with this man : Emilie de Ravin has charisma !
Remember Me looks good, HELL YES lol
Can't wait. I'm so glad to see that RM actually overshadows New Moon , cause I have a feeling that there is actually a chemistry between Rob and Emilie.I think that there is more chemistry between Rob and Emilie than Rob and Kristen. Just sayin' :)
And Chris Cooper rocks my world lol I love him.
I love this cast.

Really? Better pairing than Robsten? Dunno. Maybe I'm niased. It's only the trailer - so I didn't feel much chemistry between Rob & Emilie.

Regardless, can't wait to watch the movie - as long as Rob is there. Could care less for Emilie.

Rob P Makes me J.I.M.P. - where can I read the script?

Watching the Remember Me trailer in the theater left me feeling distressed (well, everything these days pertaining to my Pattikins leaves me a goobery mess). I was having difficulty seeing him as another character besides Edward. The man can act. Superbly. This will be the movie that will showcase it.

RPVN said...

I actually want to see RM more than NM, just in order to see Rob outside of Twilight saga. He has been connected too much with Twilight that sometimes I feel people are thinking of him only as Edward, not as an actor.

OME: I can send the script of RM to you, just let me know where to send it to.

Louisa said...

I too have the read the script. And agree that this movie will give Rob far more credibility that the Twilight Series. Not that he's not wonderful as Edward. And whoever thinks to compare Tyler to Edward, or Twilight to RM is an idiot and hasn't done their homework.

There is a great interview w RP(written - found here somewhere) explaining why he chose to do this role. Rob referes to it as a "loose" role, as he was able to be more himself !!!! Yummm!

Does anyone know if Dream On will be on the soundtrack or is just being used for the trailer? I know Zavros is scoring but I'm, of course, curious about songs to be included...

can't wait for this film to come out, and for Rob to show all the goods he's got as an actor, especially to those who have the tendency to crucify him for the rest of his career because of the Twilight films. given the right material, this man can become big and I know he will if he keeps his down-to-earth attitude and frame of mind... which I hope dearly he will, 'cause that's one of the main reasons we are drawn to him this much.
Long live the King.
I mean, Rob.

The 2-minute trailer has definitely sparked my interest in seeing Rob in another role. I have to agree with those who've said Rob and Emilie have more on-screen chemistry than Rob and Kristen. Perhaps the R & K have chemistry in real life but watching them on-screen, it doesn't look natural.

@chaos!, you can check the meaning of JIMP over here http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jimp

I've read the script and now I just wanna club myself on the head with a blunt object. the film will be extremely emotional for me nevertheless, but it could have been so much more intense have I managed to resist my stupid curiosity. so I personally recommend that you train your stoicism and do not read the script. it'll pay off, believe me.

can't wait for this movie! Rob will deliver brilliantly in this role...I can feel it already...the pictures over the summer were great, the trailer is wonderful...as for Emilie, she irks the living daylights out of me...dunno why...it's a combo of her mouth/smile and her hair or smth...but I for one don't feel her...but still...I'm sure they'll function on screen...after all, Rob could have chemistry with a hamster...or a soccer ball needed be :P the beautiful part about Remember Me, at least from the script, is that this movie won't be driven by "the romance"...this is mainly about Tyler and his relationship with everybody...

can't wait!

I just wish people will stop comparing things that aren't comparable.
It would be very diffucult to watch a movie with adult love with lots of sex scene without chemestry in it.

Of course the chemestry between this tw are not going to be the same.

You he remember me written by an oscar winner and you have twilight written by a poor writer and poor screen adaption with no guts to make this stupid infactuation looks like love.

I can also say that Kristen has a better chemestry with jesse einsenberg even with emile hirch where they play 15 min together they were more sparkles than with 2 hours of edward and bella.

Because edward and bella story is just to chaste even the kissing scene are left out.
I don't eeven want to start with the most anticlimax kiss ever with the italy kiss. That was just wrong. Don't make me believe that two young, beautifull people who have been away from each other ad trying to kill themselves over each other, that the first thing they will do after onetravel to italy to save the other is to talk. That is just wrong because first you kiss, cry, kiss more kiss and then talk.

I don't express myself well.
Comparing the two chemestry is just much of an insult than comparing remember me and twilight.

This is why i wasn't impress by the trailer, i will love a new one who doesn't focus on the brooding tyler and the fact that he 's tortured and emo.

I would like it to focus more on not targeting this movie as romantic comedie type of movie. Because if they hadn't change the storyline, this movie is more than the romance.

please don't shoot me....I still don't like the emile and rob. I expected somebody prettier younger and taller than her . She just looks so old for robbie in the trailer.hhhhhmmmm Why don't we all wait for the movie and see....

rpattzgirl said...

Hi JandR!!

Where have you been??? Miss ya girl!!

I'm really, really getting sick and tired and people comparing Kristen to Emilee, or saying how they just can't see chemistry between Rob and another woman.

First of all, these are ACTORS

Rob can not make every single movie with KStew, nor she with him.

No one has seen Emilee in the movie, so you don't know yet what she's really like...

Judgmental much??????????

And to the person who said she's too old for Rob?? Wow, what century were you born in??? Makes it sound like us "older" ladies shouldn't even be crushing on this guy.

What the hell are you going to say when he's fucking Uma or Kristin Scott Thomas in Bel Ami?

Grow up people.

Grow up people.

It will be a breath of fresh air to see Emilie in Rob's movie, "Remember Me" This girl can act and dance, she's a pro ballet dancer btw. I saw her in "Lost" and she was very good as a pregnant young woman in that series. When she was filming RM in NYU, i saw her and she was unassuming she blended with the NYU students easily. This movie is to die for. I'll watch it many times and buy the DVD and watch it some more.

I love everything that was said in this review. And while I love how vividly Rob and Kristen portray Edward/Bella, I do agree with the assessment that Rob and Emilie have a little something more. Having seen the film already, I know that there is an intimacy between the protagonists (Tyler & Ally) that there couldn't possibly be with Edward & Bella - you know, because Edward could kill Bella. The love scenes in Remember Me simply allow for a more passionate display of the protagonists' desire for each other because it's not set in a fantasy world with an immortal lead. It doesn't detract from the steaming chemistry between Edward/Bella, it just shows fans Rob as a romantic lead that doesn't have to be studiously careful when interacting with his character's onscreen love. (Which makes him even more H.O.T.!)

Remember Me is a really beautiful script that is brought to life by wonderful actors. You can't help but sympathize and empathize with all of them at some point, especially Rob as the lost and brooding Tyler. And when he and Ally embark on their love affair, there is nothing short of magic that happens onscreen. I can't wait to see it again! ROB was stellar

@D: you say you have seen a cut, so what music, if any, was used? Did they use the CB track heard with the trailer, or no?

Cheer said...

@pauleta, omg, you are saying what i am thinking. What bothers me the most about New Moon is that Bella never burst into tears/cry or some sort of meltdown after all the pain. That can be the most moving part. I don't understand why Chris or the screen writer don't get it. They can totally even enhance the book. IMO the book also has too much silly conversation after the reunion. Great story line but it can be delivered much more powerfully.

Sorry, got carried away. Back to Remember Me. The original script is nothing all that special even with the most talk about ending. But i think from the trailer it looks way better. Rob looks amazing in it. Yeah, can't wait.

Bookworm Chick said...

@chaos!, no sweat, really ;)

@piningforthepretty, Rob standing in front of a bookshelf - Rob+books... lots of Rob, the gorgeous edible Rob and lots of books..., why, I think I might have died and went to heaven.

@rpattzgirl, like your comment about Emilie look "older" and the question regarding Rob shagging Uma :) I personally cannot wait to see him in some serious fool blooded action with other women... damn, that's gonna be a sight for the sore eyes...

mary said...

I too am so excited to see him on anything outside Twilight, I just recently heard a comment from him (on the radio read by a dj) that he wouldn't want to make an album now because people would probably be biased and not really listen to his songs and just buy them just because it was him and not for the songs.

I feel sorry for him as he really wanted to work his way up in the music industry by playing small gigs on pubs, but that wouldn't be possible nowadays. I guess he's waiting for his fame to wane so he can start with his original passion which is music.

I just saw a couple of pictures of him and Emilie but I have to say that they do look good together, I can't say if it will outshine his chemistry with Kristen because we have to see the whole movie to know that, but he just looks good with most of his leading ladies, like with Katie Leung or Rachel Sterling (is that right?) on the Haunted Airman, cuz he really exudes what was needed to be seen and not just pure pair-on chemistry.

Anonymous said...

I literally just cried because I just read the script.. I don't know if my litle heart will be able to take this movie.. I will have died in the movie theater.. and about rob and emilies chemistry.. umm i may be just biased but.. it looks just like normal chemistry like a normal movie with chemistry.. if they had AMAZING chemistry people would be going aound yelling roblie!! but... I really like how rob and Kristen just look into eachothers eyes and you start getting hot.. ouch the fire!! Its really hard to find something like that with movies.. they were really lucky to find rob and kris.. and robsten sounds better than roblie.. hahaha.. but hey thats just my opinion.. rob and emilie look like they could make a really good movie though.. oh GOD i can't wait for BD
OMFG I will literally be dead and gone to heaven when rob and kris have a little ruough and tumble...

mary said...

hey bookworm chick even the word "ROBSESSED" is included in that urban dictionary!! WoW! Hope they include it in the cambridge dictionary, that would just make our obsession official..ayt!?

mary said...

@pauleta - actually in the book they do not kiss when they reunite, they actually talk and say lines from Romeo and Juliet(how cheesy can you get!?), there wasn't even a kiss in the book when they see each other, that was later in the bed scene(it was supposed to be an intense bed scene kiss), so even though I want the same thing as you, it's just not possible.

pauleta said...

Cheer, i'm suprise that someone agre with me because of thetime when i posted on other biard people just say that i hate twilight wich is unfair. I like it , i really do, but it's poorly written.
SM could have made a master piece with her character but instead she spend pages talking about the flavour of a kiss and none about giving her character personnalities identity.

Even after reading this book i don't know how many time i still having fing something that shows me this epic love everyone seems to see between edward and bella. All i see is a needed young girl, astalkerish, possessif vampire infactuated with each other. for me that's not love.

This is one of the reason i would like this movie to not stay that close to the book. This is also why i want Rob and Kris to stay far away from the mess breacking dawn is.

Sorry for my english it's only my third language.

Bookworm Chick said...

hi, mary, I didn't know about the Robsessed being included in the urban dictionary even though I spend way too much time on that site LOL. but that's great, Robsessed is one of the really cool new words out there and I'm kind of proud of the fact that that adjective applies to me :)

pauleta said...

Mary i know the kiss doesn't happen in the book, but what i was trying to say was sometimes thing doesn't translate good on screen.
This is why i say it was anticlimax. Because in the movie you see her run away from jacob forks and allthat. She runs trough the plazza and then when she jumps into edward hands they talk that is just not believable in a real world real situation. the hole scene was build to this epic moment who didn't happen when it shoud have been. Hence it wasn't not grandiose and it could have been.

mary said...

I didn't feel the love either Pauleta, and I have been fighting tooth and nails with my other coworkers (who are on the dark side already by the way[team jacob]) saying that I didn't like the movie either, because as I said in the other thread, there wasn't enough intense love and it was more focused on the developing romance of Jacob and Bella which should be the case in Eclipse.

Both actors were superb but the scenes for both of them were rushed like the wind. I didn't feel the relief and overwhelming happiness that Bella should have felt when she saw Edward, maybe she wasn't into Edward since they made Rob look like a haggard vampire (which really isn't possible in the fantasy world).

But you should also take into consideration that the book isn't really about anything real, you have to take into account that it is about a human girl and a vampire guy which gives the story a whole new level or perspective.

mary said...

and oh I think Goz would kill us if we keep bantering about New Moon when the topic is clearly about Rob's other significant project "Remember Me", so I'll just rest my case in here for now (*wink wink)

D. said...

@A: Hey, A. The music was pretty much just a blueprint of what will end up in the final cut of the movie. Again, I saw the screening earlier this month which means it was still in the post-production stage. But I hope they keep a lot of the music/score because it hit the perfect notes with the emotion that was being displayed on screen.
