haha yay i'm not the only one to have an outburst. but i had it a lil earlier than that. it was when robert came out from the clock tower and i gasped really loudly and said "holy mother!" and everyone busted out laughing. let's just say i never made a peep after that.

even in the beginning as well because i was in a theater full of team jacobs who were dissing robert left and right. and i'm like i'm a six foot woman but i can't take on a whole theater... haha.

Alright I will leave the first review before I head off to bed.

I really liked the movie. The first part was very good, Edward and Bella kissing in the parking lot and their interaction at school seemed MUCH more natural than in Twilight.

Robward kicked some serious acting ass compared to Twilight he seemed truly pained to leave Bella and K Stew impressed me as well, she writes these emails that never actually make it to Alice which I thought was a nice addition to the movie because their close relationship was never really evolved in Twilight.

Some parts were slow going, but all together I thought the wolf pack was great they looked hot and phasing was neat to see. I was not all for Taylor being in the 2nd movie but I will say I am pleasantly surprised that he did a great job and portrayed Jacob very well.

The added action WAS FABULOUS it moved things along and was interesting, Chris added a few things that weren't in the book into the movie but everything fit nicely.

The Volturi rocked and although Marcus looked like a crazy fucker seriously whoever that actor is...GOOD GREIF MAN YOU ARE WEIRD LOOKIN! But fit right into the movie so thank your parents for having such an odd looking fellow for a son.

Rosalie's wig sucked big time, WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT! Seriously did the budget fall short on the Cullen's wigs or what. Jasper and Rosalie got the short end of the stick there.

And Jackson...oh dear sweet weird Jackson. You can act like you are pained and standoffish WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE YOU HAVE TO TAKE A DUMP!!! It can happen for you, I am sure of it really. Your wig sucked and I know that is tough on you but you didn't help yourself by looking constipated the entire time...just sayin.

Other than some minor blunders, there were some seriously funny parts and tender moments that made me cry.

All in All I was VERY entertained. Do I believe this is an Oscar winner...errrrm NO.

But the point of a movie isn't always to move and inspire and change your life. Sometimes the point is simply to entertain and not make you regret spending the 10 bucks to go see it.

I'm going to repost some of what I posted in the other thread.

I think I need to see it again just so I can actually SEE it instead of waiting to watch it if that makes sense. I think because I've read the book & knew what was coming, I spent a lot of the time waiting to see if the next scene was what I thought it would be. I need to be able to just watch & absorb instead of analyzing.

Also, this is a little off topic but Dani's mention of Jackson reminded me, why haven't we seen Jackson doing any promotion for the movie? Everyone else is doing talk shows & interviews except him. Does anybody else find that odd?

Karina said...

Entertaining, as long as you know what you are going into.

Likes: Rob and Kristen did great jobs in terms of acting, Taylor did too. Some great imagery and visuals. Volturi was great. Nice job of showing Bella's pain without it going over the top.

Dislikes: Ashley's acting is very distracting and just badly done(love her as a person, just not as an actress), Robert's Sears Catalog wardrobe, Rosalie's Party City wig they bought for 14.99, Jasper's Party City Wig they bought from the clearance bin for 2.99, the last vision.

Dani said...

Jackson is probably in the shitter Marna.

In all seriousness I didn't see him do much promo for Twilight either...

I did however recently see him and Ashley along with Nikki and Kellan in some magazine featuring the other couples of Twilight, he layed a deep kiss on Ashley...it was kinda sweet. They seem like they have nice chemistry in photoshoots just wished it showed more on camera.

Dani said...

Karina...agreed doll Ashley's acting is a bit off putting.

Her voice grates on you after a while.

The Wait Is Over!! =) Squeeee....
I finally went to see it on Friday 7:00 p.m. show and also today, Saturday's 4:00 show.
I went with my 2 young daugters and today my teenage son wanted to see it, so we went again, 4 of us.
My DH wasn't interested. But I know that once I buy the DVD, he will watch it by himself when no one's around like what he did with Twilight. LOL.
Overall, I enjoyed it alot. It was pretty well done, certainly not an indie film anymore, but more of a Hollywoodesque blockbuster. Lots of eye candy!
I am not a Taylor fan, but he did a good job, nailing Jacob's character.
And Kristen did a better job this time as Bella.
But for some reason, she acted better and more believable with Taylor than with Rob.
In this film, they had better on- screen chemistry than Kristen & Rob.
The scenes of Rob & Bella are rushed like many of you said and I just didn't feel satisfied.
The only time Edward smiled was at school right before they kissed on Bella's B-day.
Of course I know that in other scenes, he was supposed to be tortured and pained and needs to be very serious, sad, etc.
I just missed the old Edward in Twilight...sigh
He looked gorgeous either way in both movies, because it is ROB, but I didn't like that he looked so much more aged, like 30!!
I missed his famous trademark bouffant hair that's auburn with blonde streaks, his grey peacoat, tight jeans which all made him younger looking.
I hate his make-up in this movie, it's too obviously powder finished and caked on. His forehead wrinkles were so visible as a result. He certainly didn't look like that in Twilight. He had a very smooth almost transparent skin. His lipstick is too bright red, ugh...what were they thinking?
Another thing about Bella, she hardly ever smiles with Edward, she always looks too scared of him or upset with him. They just don't look like they are in love.

Anyways, I will probably go see it again for several more times to support Rob's movies.

I say Remember Me trailer tonight at a different theater. I was so mad that it didn't show last night.
I wanted to squee so loud, was so happy to see it, it was awesome!

Can't wait to see RM and Bel-Ami!

Great review Dani!

I read a comment by Chris Weitz that this movie was not made for any particular demographic, it was made for the fans so they could see the book come to life visually. At the end of the day that's all that matters to me and IMO that's why this film ended up being so good. He didn't try to make it something it wasn't.

I love Chris Weitz!!

I posted earlier on a similar post further down the thread. I since then went a 2nd time to watch NM..This time not in NYC and buzzed from my 2 Cosmos...I went with my husband who enjoyed watching Twilight (so many times, due to me having everyone watch it that came to my house and was a Twilight virgin!) I have to be completely, honest...I was disappointed on so many different levels, here are a few:

Did not... love the music, the color Edwards eyes and looking like he was on valium most of the movie, lack of passion, lots of key points from the book 2 film missing, lack of description/details relating to characters, too slow paced as well on some parts too fast paced, like when Bella asked Edward for kiss after birthday, then onto breaking up w/her the next day then to leave Rome back to Forks straight to quick Bedroom scene to Cullen House..where was all the in betweens? Why make it a 2 hour movie instead of 3 to hit all these pivitol points that connect the dots? Twilight had 498 pages and New Moon 547 pages, but yet Twilight connected most of it dots. I am not saying I didn't enjoy it, cause hell ya I did! My husband said it was boring and too slow paced..that the wolve scenes were cool and enjoyed the fight scenes w/the Volturi...but it didn't compare to the 1st movie..he left being very confused.

I hope that for Breaking Dawn, if it gets the green light, that Summit will have Kathrine Direct to give back a more intense, passionate and romantic feel as she did so well in Twilight..her eye for detail was amazing! Chris did a great job in many aspects of this movie, but more from a man's POV. Okay...I am ready for my biatch slapping now!!

I love reading everybody's differing opinions.

I have to agree with Ashley's acting I really wasn't happy with it.
Loved Taylor as Jacob and yes I agree Kristen and Taylor had great onscreen chemistry.

I loved New Moon the book and I feel like CW just reached right into my head and pulled out exactly how I imagined the book would come to life. Even Jacob's house and shed were exactly the way I imagined it.

And Rob in Italy...when he first takes his shirt off it looked like he was completely naked...I was melting in my seat!!

Marna said...

I just thought of something else. In the trailers there is the scene where you hear Edward say "You're the only reason for me to stay (extremely long pause) alive". All the time I've been hearing that, I've been assuming that they edited 2 sentences together for the trailer because of the giant pause before the word alive. Turns out that no, he really does say it that way in the movie. I can't imagine why, it sounds wierd.

Unknown said...

I do agree that Katherine should be back as the director. Chris definitely didn't make that breath taking tension and chemistry btwn rob and kris happen.

the critics can go pound sand...chris weitz is a genuis.new moon was my least favortie of the first three( breaking dawn had lots of problems but that is for a different post)BUT

I cruise robsessed about 10 times a day (husband makes fun of me since it is always pops up on our laptop screen when he opens the computer to look up CNN or something)....this is one of my first posts, sorry so lengthy!

Saw NM at midnight opening night on IMAX and really really did not like it at all. Not sure if it was because I was: so excited, the packed theater of fans/crazies/drunk/rude people or what...my friend and I are both die-hard Twi & RP & KS crackwhores so we felt so let down...BUT we went the next day in the morning & within 10min we leaned over to one another and said at the same time "oh it is sooooooo much better this time" Have no idea what it was that changed...I saw Twilight 11 times on the big screen (took me a while to love that too) and I am sure New Moon will be the same. I did initially think NM would blow Twilight out of the water from the get-go & make it look like the worst film ever but instead I found myself thinking of Twilight while watching NM and missing a lot of the indie-ness, etc....Overall I thought New Moon was gorgeous, loved the music (but missed the intimate/perfect songs by RP in Twilight), the wolves were amazing and I am not usually Team Jacob but after the movie I was wishing I had him as a (hot) best friend, he won me over & I though TL did an amazing job, seemed comfortable & natural.

So many people already mentioned the ridiculous wigs and for me the Cullen eyes were disturbing, they were not subtle in the least. While reading the books one of my favorite things aside from the love affair of B & E is the Cullens and I have no idea why in both films their roles are not more fleshed out. They are such powerful and interesting characters, I have NO idea why they (film makers) insist on castrating them and making them look like cheeseballs when they could be these amazing powerful sexy scary characters in the love story. Soemtimes I feel like they make the movies so focused on the B &E story that they let everything else just be 'meh' but in the books it works so well because there are so many strong characters to love. So aside from all the bitching , I loved the film overall and I love that I love Twilight (as a married 35yr it takes a lot to not be ashamed of my love affair with Twi & RP but I seriously am proud of it!)
Last things, tiny things but again why no one pays attention to the details in multi-bazillion budgets is beyond me...
The comment about Edwards Sears wardrobe is hilarious, I was so over his blazers, the guy is supposed to exude an otherwordly sexiness and there was nothing sexy about those blazers. Where are the soft cream colored sweaters that hug his body?
...and it really bugged me that when Bella finds him in Italy his eyes are glowing topaz, in the book aren't they deep black because he hasn't eaten in months?
*I wish these films would grab 1-3 Twi fans to use as proof readers on these screenplays, it would only help them I swear!

i think kristen's acting was most put-offing for me. i'm sorry...i love her, she's a cool girl...but come on....edward broke MY heart in the forest and i was crying in the theatre (and in the book). and bella stood there blinking. yes i know there were bugs when they were filming but COME ON! fake the tears!!! eye drop it! this guy just ripped your heart out!

and it bugged me that she looked more sad when jake tried to hold her in forks and she had to leave than when edward left. -_-

screaming in bed was sort of unnatural for a nightmare...more...in labour...

don't kill me. i like kristen, she's super cool with a great style on the carpet and off... but yeah.

so sad that edward didn't do the whole "before u..." speech. aw boo~

I love the movie. Robward, Krisella and Taycob are great. I went to see it on Wednesday and today I'm going again!!!
In this movie Edward looks older and he dresses more formal, but I think it's just one way to show that he's really older than he seems, and classic, because he was born in 1901. I was NOT disappointed with the movie at all, on the contrary.
I can't wait to have it on DVD!!! :oD

I saw the film on Friday night and again last night. I loved pretty much all of it apart from the "bambi" scene at the end when Alice has her vision of Bella as a vampire. I thought it was really cheesy & on the friday night the whole cinema started laughing at that bit.

Apart from that I loved it all.

Unknown said...

After I left my comment and reading others', can't help but agree with so many of their points as well.
yeah, didn't like Bella's screaming, in the bed, it was so annoying..once was enough!
Wonder why Bella is so much tender and loving with Jake rather than with Edward?
I get the feeling that she has a little crush on Taylor in real life.
Maybe she's really impressed with his new body...lol
Also, I do agree about the eye colors of the Cullens or other vampires. Too strong and unnatural. I like seeing Edward's black onyx eyes at times, they look better on him. (especially if he's thirsty from not having eaten)
I hope the wardrobe for Edward in Eclipse or Breaking Dawn will be better.
So far, I am not impressed with the music in the movie. Nothing grabs me..weird.
I remember LOVING the "Flightless Bird" for the prom scene, "Bella's Lullaby" when Edward walked slow & sexy over to Bella after she told him not to go. I loved "Super Massive Blackhole"..it was perfect for the baseball scene. And many other songs were just perfect for each scene.
Overall, again, Chris Weitz did a great job to make it more of a blockbuster style with better technology.
But I do agree that in some ways that Catherine H. was better with the love scenes & romance.
Wonder who will be the director for BD? Please a good one, don't ruin it!

OK, I'm sorry about this, but this post is not about Rob or NM except in an indirect way. I just watched the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries (a series that gets better each week IMO) & the two leads had sex. Like Bella & Edward SHOULD have had. And the vampires aren't all chalk white, they're normal skin toned like SM should have written them. What could have been if SM had let it just aggravates me sometimes.

wonderwoman said...

Chiming in again even though I posted a novel. The nightmare screaming was cheesy but would have been so powerful had they shown clips of Victoria or just her eyes or something freaky, since I assume this is what the nightmares were about? In the book Bella bites her hand to keep 'from' screaming as she thinks about what Victoria will do to her, just one scene would have been more effective. As someone also mentioned, I flipped through the book again and there are so many more smiles and little joking parts with B&E, than in the movie...in the films they always make those two soooo down & morose but in the books there seems to be more happiness and I wish they conveyed that in film, one of the reasons I was so drawn to J&B in this film was their laughter & joking and E&B do that too in the books but they always cut it from film version. New Moon had so much more bonding & dialogue than Twilight but still wish for more, sooo many conversations were missing for so many relationships.
I know she was 'in shock' when he was leaving her in the forest but ANY other girl in the world would have held on to Edward with an iron grasp and pleaded for him not to go. Hell, I did this with many of my boyfriends (sadly) and NONE (sadly again) of them were close to being Edwards but it is just what 18yr old girls usually do!

wonderwoman said...

Marna, I am addicted to the Vampire Diaries (Twilight rip-off) too :-) and yup, hunky vamps and sex, that was a good episode....didn't need to be hit over the head with the gigantic full moon and the agitated guy saying "I don't know what's going on" enter wolves stage left...I think that is who Elena hit with her car!

Anonymous said...

Ok I'm confused. Did some of you people watch something completely different to me? I mean, it's difficult to understand that some actually hold the notion that Twilight could even remotely compare to New Moon and it's nearly impossible to comprehend that others think Twilight was BETTER?!

I know everyone has their own opinions but for serious, make those opinions somewhat respectable. New Moon completely lived up to the hype and all the expectations I had and in some instances, went above and beyond. It's just baffling that people can criticise Chris Weitz for undertaking one the most potentially criticised roles, accepting all the pressure surrounding it and then giving us a film that is literally the book in motion. The man is a genius and deserves nothing but praise.

Don't get me wrong, it's not oscar winning in any sense, but then the books themselves aren't the greatest novels of all time either. The story is just beautiful and the movie tells us that story without adding or taking anything away.

Whereas Twilight and Hardwick (possibly the worst director ever born) where about as moving as a cement coated mannequin. Everything was wrong with that film; the acting, the stuttering and blinking (thank GOD for the lack of in New Moon), the random diner scenes (Bella cooks, you idiot!) the even more random dialogue, and the worst thing ever in the history of the world; that ANNOYING blue tint! Ukhh it was just soooo budget and I know they actually were on a budget, but seriously, you're a director, figure it out! But figure it out she did not.

Twilight is in my top 10 of worst movies of all time and defo number 1 in my 'worst film adaptations' category. It was just wrong, random, awkward, and there was no emotion whatsoever, like I literally felt nothing.

New Moon gave me everything I wanted and more. It was depressing, painful, beautiful, funny, heartwarming and each scene was brillianty done. I cried, I laughed, cried and laughed some more and then cried again whilst yelling 'ANY DAY' when Edward proposed. I wanted to watch Face Punch with Eric and Mike, frenemy Jessica and BFF Alice, throwdown Edward and hug Jacob.

More importantly; Edward made a joke! That was the killer- who sees him making any kind of respectable joke in Twilight? His general script makes me wanna throw my control at the flat screen and cry out in a cringe induced state (especially that horribly done forest scene) Ukhh it's just so bad, that whole film is just BAD. But I digress. Edward's joke; "Don't trust vampires. Trust me". People actually laughed. At something Edward said. Believe!

And if his occasional sexy grin throughout his parts of the movie doesn't make for good viewing, I don't know what does. I've seen it 3 times already and today will be my 4th. Each time has been just as good and I know I won't get sick of it.

Rob and Kristen have stepped up a few levels in terms of their acting and I'm glad I finally see some of her so-called amazing talent- she really did portray Bella's pain and the overcoming of that pain beautifully.

Speaking from a Pattinson/Twilight Saga obsessed point of view- new moon the movie is the most amazing film I've ever seen in my life ever. As a normal person- it's actually a really good film.

and agree to the joking and fun between bella/edward. :) we missed a lot of the "high" in the b/e emotional roller coaster and went straight to the "down". LOVED first scene in class with romeo and juliet though. lmao justin chon rocked it. HAHAHA

Don't think I can be spoiled--I have read the books & watched the Twilight DVD so many times that the comments here were not only funny and insightful but worth reading. Thanks to all of you. (The yellow eyes always creep me out, Rob's real eyes are so beautiful!)

I thought Rob looked great! Actually the best of all the Vamps.
He was amazing. I also thought he did Edward wonderfully, he had the pain down pat. I know soe other people in the theatre thought he was wooden, but I don't think they read the book, in the book he's supposed to be detached looking and pained, I thought Rob nailed it. As for Kristen, sorry..both my daughter and myself didn't buy it. We didn't buy her pain at all, we've seen pain and she didn't look as pained as Bella in the book, there was no empty hole in her tummy. We didn't buy her 'love' for Edward either, she had more chemistry with Taylor. In fact to us it looked like she was going to pick Jacob in that end scene and it was almost a surprise when she said "It'll always be him" (meaning Edward)

There was a big pop for Taylor when he took off his shirt (seemed like the whole theatre was full of Team Jacob fans) Rob got laughed at, which really annoyed me, especially during his goodbye scene with Bella in the woods, and that vision scene with him and Bella running through the woods in period clothes. Everyone seemed really impressed with the Volturi scenes though, and I thought it was best part of the movie. Michael Sheen really rocked as Aro.
Dakota Fanning was great as Jane as well.

Billy Burke stole every single scene he was in, but he did that in "Twilight" too. He's one fine character actor!

Taylor was pretty good, except for a few scene, especially that scene in the rain with Bella when he tells her they can't be friends, it looked forced and you could tell he was 'acting', which isn't a good thing.

The song soundtrack is really good, but they didn't use it enough, the music score I thought really sucked! It was over the top melodramatic, much too heavy and was distracting, a score is supposed to ease you into the next scene and create a mood, not distract you from the film itself.
A good score can even enhance a film and make it much better then it actually is, like a John Barry score in a Bond film. I was just simply annoyed with it, whereas the score for "Twilight" was so good that it helps me enjoy that film over and over again, it really sets the right mood.

I thought Ashley was just fine, I liked her in this film.

I'm seeing it again, just hoping there will be more Rob fans this time around..

@panda.

This is one of the things people always say, that had they been Bella they would have stopped Edward from leaving and fought for him. I think peole forget that Bella thinks she's not good enough for Edward, and she's constantly questioning why he's with her since he's so beautiful and she's so 'average'. She loves him to an uncomprehensible point.

So this amazingly beautiful vampire who takes your every breath away just by being tells you he doesn't want you and you're not good for him and he's leaving town without you. I can bet my life no girl who has ever questioned herself with a guy and felt insecure about the relationship would have the balls to fight and tell him 'no! I'm coming with whether you like it or not' there and then, in that instant.

Jackson is in a band; possibly limited in time available for promoting New Moon. Eye colour was ctually closer to as described in the books (amber/golden eyes/yellow eyes). Pause before 'alive' is because he isn't really alive and was at a loss of words to describe what his state of existence.
I thought the acting was excellent, the directing brilliant, the movie visually beautiful, the CGIs outstanding, the dialogue lacking, and 15 more minutes, with dialogue from the book to 'connect' some of the dots and to complete Edward's character arc as well as resolve the issues (reason for leaving, for lying, for hurting Bella) would have perfected it.

drabrasil said...

I think that
1. color of eyes and skin are right in NM, and not in twilight. In twilight they seemed natural skin of people without sun. Now they are really seem like REALLY paled skin.
2.Jake is great.
3. Bella and Edward were great also and I see that they did it as for the book - in the begginning they seem happy with each other. Obviously that Bella was not sooo happy because of birthday and age so that's why she didn't smile more.
4.the sequences without edward are good and follow the book.
5.volterra images are great and I saw edward smiles when bella reachs him , she is desperate to take him off from sunlight, and when he opens his eyes and realises that Bella is alive, he smiles and shows that he is happy...of course that they advance some lines like bella saying to edward that he cannot feel guilty for her and bla bla..it makes edward looks sorry and apologize for tell her that he didn't want her (break up scene).Edward shows some pain for tell her lies.
6.of course that the bedroom scene after volterra could be longer but edward asked bella to forgive him.. the kiss could be more focused ... and they again advance the discussion that bella could be human for a big time without the volturi knowing that to bedroom scene, not at cullen's house.
7. And the proposal is ok because follows the scene with jacob..and did a great job to link NM to Eclipse.

After all, I really enjoy and loved the movie. I would change some little things ( the bedroom kiss after volterra) but we should understand that movies based on books WILL NEVER show or be the same as the book. NEVER.Otherwise it would be a 5 hours movie!!!

I LOVED THE MOVIE. I HAVE SCENE IT TWICE.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCENES IS WHEN EDWARD IS WALKING TOWARDS BELLA AT SCHOOL. ROBERT LOOKS SO "HOT".

I THOUGHT ROBERT DID A AWESOME JOB OF LOOKING TORTURED AND DEVASTATED WHEN HE LEARNS BELLA IS DEAD.

I WAS IMPRESSED WITH TAYLOR. HE PLAYED JACOB REALLY WELL.

HARRY'S HEART ATTACK WAS GOOD AND I THOUGHT THE WOLF PACK ADDED SOME HUMOR TO THE STORY.
THE WOLVES PHASING WAS GREAT!

THE VOLTURI WERE SCARY! I LIKED ARO.

THE ENDING "MARRY ME" HAD ME WANTING MORE AND MORE!!

I THOUGHT ROBERT, KRISTEN, TAYLOR, AND EVERYBODY ELSE DID A FANTASTIC JOB.

SOME THINGS THAT I THOUGHT COULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT.

I THOUGHT THEIR EYES HAD MORE OF A YELLOW CAST TO THEM INSTEAD OF BROWN.
THE BREAK UP SCENE. WHEN I READ THE BOOK I WAS HYSTERICAL-I CRIED FOR DAYS. I COULD FEEL BELLA'S PAIN. IT GAVE ME A STOMACH ACHE. I THOUGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN PLAYED
OUT LONGER. IT COULD HAVE BEEN MORE EMOTIONAL.

IT WAS TOO FAST. THEY ARE IN ITALY AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW THEY ARE BACK IN HER ROOM. EDWARD'S ASKING FOR HER FORGIVENESS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE LIKE IN THE BOOK. "WHY CAN YOU BELIEVE THE LIE, BUT NOT THE TRUTH?". A LITTLE MORE EXPLAINING WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE. I THINK THE REUNION SCENE COULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE MORE EXCITING. EDWARD THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD AND BELLA THOUGHT THE LOVE OF HER LIFE WAS GOING TO DIE.

WHEN BELLA DECIDES HIS FAMILY NEEDS TO HAVE A VOTE IN THE BOOK. EDWARD AND BELLA SPEND MORE TIME TALKING ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS ON THE WAY TO THE CULLENS HOUSE.

OVER ALL I THOUGHT IT WAS A AWESOME MOVIE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN 2AND A HALF HOURS. I WOULDN'T HAVE CARED.
I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT ON DVD.

AND I AM TOO EXCITED FOR THE "REMEMBER ME" MOVIE. THE TRAILER HAD ME WANTING MORE. ROBERT LOOKS SO GOOD IN IT.

TEAM EDWARD ALL THE WAY...NOW WE HAVE TO JUST WAIT FOR "ECLIPSE". THE WAITING IS GOING TO DRIVE ME CRAZY!!

Visually, movie was amazing (werewolves, fighting, visions..., all except Edward's lipstick) and actors did a good job, but I really missed seeing the trip back to USA, Charlie's reaction when they came back and especially all Bella - Edward dialog after their retured. I liked the movie, but Chris Weitz, would it have killed you to take a few minutes off of the action scenes, and give us what we really want, the reason why we got hooked to the books - more Bella and Edward together?

Okay girls, some of you really scare me to hell! I haven't seen NM yet but I hardly can imagine that it is worse than TW. TBH, there is hardly anything that can be!!!

If it wasn't for loving the TW books, I never (NEVER) would have watched it - by no means several times (and I actually know all lines by heart now). The directing was sh*** (don't get me started on the blue tint or the missing I love you's, Rob jumping through the trees like a monkey, etc.). So for god's sake how can anyone who hasn't lost their marbles completely honestly propose that CH should do BD? (Just imagining CH "extraordinary skills" with special effects makes me vomit! Maybe she can pull Nessie cross the screen on strings?)

I truly believe she made the situation more difficult for following directors CW and DS with leaving out sooo much in TW (Jaspers "gift", the friendship with Alice, the for the bed too small Edward room, etc.)which now has additionally to be packed into the movies (as if there wasn't already enough material).

As I said, I haven't seen NM yet so I can't put in my 2 cents to the things people are complaining about with this movie. But I def. can say that I don't want CH to do another TW movie - she butchered, BUTCHERED!!!!!, the first one (from the beginning to the end, that awful close ups, especially that horrible meadow scene which wasn't a meadow scene at all!!!!).

Just had to get this off of my chest.

katie said...

I loved the movie, because I love New Moon the movie.

I think CW is a better director than CH.

KS/RP weren't suppossed to have the same type of chemistry like Twilight-in Twilight it was all about heat and restrained lust. In NM, it's about betrayal and trying to put the pieces back after a loved one betrays you, so it's gonna be less sexy in this book. Eclipse will be sexier though because that's where their relationship is going---becoming more physical again.

Oops...ok, read more the other reviews and have to agree with some more. Rob looked great (make up wise) I have to agree that no 17 year old would wear that suit of tweeds, I was put off with it in the movie stills that came out, made him look too old.

I also thought Anna actually did better then Kristen, she was totally believeable and upstaged Bella in that Port Angeles scene.

So I wasn't the only one who thought her chemistry was stronger with Taylor? I actually didn't see much chemistry between her and Rob at all, it looked like they were focusing on the breakup from the get go. Although Edward really sold that he loved Bella, both myself and my daughter bought his devotion, you could really see his pain, he sold that well, and you could really see his relief when he found her again. I left the theatre feeling bad for Edward, he broke my heart.

A lot of my feelings could be because I really didn't like New Moon as a book, it was my least favorite, in Eclipse I just hated Bella for the whole book, I didn't hate the book itself..We'll see where they go in the 3rd film, could be they're just setting us up in the second for the rivalry. Edward's 'hate on' for Jacob is classic though, don't ya think? He really sold it in "Twilight" when Jacoh shows up at the Prom, and he super sold it both times he sees Jacob in New Moon, boy if looks could kill, Rob would be lethal!

The only time i had an outburst was when I realized it was the remember me trailer. I kinda yelled oh Shit remember me! Hah I can honestly say I loved new moon. I cried when he left her along with my gay friend. lol their acting was 100 times better! Chris...I do not believe no other director wouldve stayed so true to the book. awesome job my friend =D But we new from the beginning it was going to b a huge change from twilight and for the better. i loved micheal sheen aa aro! Whoop whoop watching it again hungover and all tomorrow! Oh nd Rosalie's wig omgoodness...hah

I am very fuckin pleased with new moon! =D

Sorry but I saw it and I wasn't that impressed. I could see how good it could be but it just wasn't. Kristen's acting just totally distracts me. She annoyed me in twilight and just as much here. When she yelled out "noo" in the volturi scene I slunked in my chair and cringed. She doesn't get bella for me. Loved the Victoria/wolves chase and harry clearwater. Taylor did great with jacob. Nothing wrong with that at all. A lady behind me when it was over just said "that is the biggest load of crap". I did see it could have become great but it just wasn't close

Okay , I saw New Moon.
All I can say is : I won't see Eclipse.
KStew as Bella didn't impress me . She (KSTEW) had no emotion in her face. No on-screen chemistry with Rob in this movie.Sorry.
But overall Chris W. did a great job. The fight scene was so cool !

PS : Rob's acting looks so much better in Remember Me ! I can't wait !! His accent ! Wow he has improved ! And Emilie is a beauty. I like her.

I totally agree with this:
"Chris Weitz, would it have killed you to take a few minutes off of the action scenes, and give us what we really want, the reason why we got hooked to the books - more Bella and Edward together?"

CdL said...

Hummm... well... read all the reviews... do agree with some of it... and don't with some others... LOL...

I saw it twice... ^_^
the second time was even better... because I wasn't anymore in the rush to know what next and so on...!

I loved it... ♥
I think C Weitz is really near of the vision I had about NM (which is one of my fav. book) and there is only two tiny bit of the film who bugg me off... lol...

1- I really appreciate to have Edward's sense of humour back... was missing it in Twilight...
2_ the make up is great... (in Twilight, Edward's make up was just awful...) and colouring, arf... loving it...
3- love the soundtrack...
4- the acting of Kristen, Taylor, Rob... arf... Ooh, and the Volturi... Aro, was killing me... and I love Charlie/Billy Burke...!! he's so amazing as Bella's father... and he's a really GREAT actor...!
5- the Wolfpack was amazing as well... (the effects were great...)
6- I love the way C. Weitz uses to do the months going away (not sure about the word... sorry)... I was wondering how he was going to do that... and you can really see Bella's pain...
7- Ooh, and the chase of Victoria in the wood by the wolves was awesome... that little red dot in the middle if the wood...! exactly what I had in my mind... ^_^
8- the "marry me........ Bella" at the end.... arf... excellent...!
9- want to see it... again... and again... ♥

ok, now, the tiny things I didn't like that much... except the wiggs, we all agree... lol...
I didn't like much the vision Alice gave to Aro, Edward and Bella, running in the sun... was a little too much... lol...
and for me, one scene is missing, (even if most of the words are in the Volturi scene) the way back on the plane... but well, can't put everything in a film...

Thank heaven for Jacob (Taylor Lautner), her Quileute Indian friend. Lautner lacks Pattinson's screen charisma and acting chops (he's not helped any by the cheap wig he wears for half the movie), but he's sweet and sincere and spent the last year pumping iron and gaining 30 pounds.

I'm so sad that there are so many bad reviews and comments about New Moon. It really hurts me. For me it was amazing.
I think that Summit f*ucked it all by showing us so much movie before it hit theaters and many people were dissapointed with the actual movie as the trailers were really exciting.
Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know, I'm just shocked by reading so many bad things...

Unknown said...

I can't believe all the negativity.

Have people read the books??? It's an incredibly depressing book and Bella is very upset on her b-day so there wouldn't be much chemistry going on in the beginning and have people missed the intro walk and that KISS and how she looks at him when he cites R&J and how he looks at her when Alice takes their picture. That's LOVE!!! The scenes felt rushed because they were soooo good that it will never feel enough.

Not to mention the film was made to introduce Jacob and set up the love triangle (don't get me wrong I'm 100% team Edward. And that's what it did, from what I hear most people are on Jacob wagon now.

Edwards' heartbreak was killing me during the kiss after b-day and the kiss on the forehead when he leaves. Rob played it to perfection. Edward is supposed to be quiet, tortured, statuesque, pained and obsessed with Bella, well he was all of those things.

I can not begin to praise Kristen, especially after watching her interviews, she is so completely different from Bella and yet she portrays her perfectly. Bella is not a crier, she was numb, and that moment with the months was simply heartbreaking, the screams were devastating. She did cry when Alice showed up, that is so Bella like! When she saves Edward and says "You know nothing about his soul..." that is LOVE!
The music is placed with perfection from Edwards entrance, to the months scene, to Thom Yorke during Victoria chase, to Meadow score during proposal.

The vamps are supposed to look out of this world beautiful, well that's what they look like OTHERWORLDLY!
I would agree that Twilight had some special energy about it, but it was because the material was different. New Moon is dark and devastating, it's about rebuilding yourself after being destroyed to pieces. We now have a different Bella not a naive girl, but an experienced woman. The movie is a perfect set up for Eclipse, where there will be more chemistry btw E and B.

Sorry for long post, all the negative reviews everywhere just made me sad, seems like people expected a light love story or a remake of Twilight. Well it's not what New Moon is supposed to be. I think CW and all the actors did an amazing job bringing the book to live and making it a bit more interesting to watch, since New Moon 80% of the time, made me suicidal.

alex, i'm with you with all your sadness about this all criticism over New Moon. I also cannot believe it:(
For me it was really brilliant...

Completely agree with Butterfly, trailers ruined it for many people, me included. They set up very high expectations and showed way too much, hopefully they won't show us this much of Eclipse before it comes out. But it still is no reason to diss the movie.

I think i need to see it a 2nd time before I can review it properly. Maybe it were the Tay-crazies in the cinema ruining it for me but I left the theatre not being sure if liked it or not.
Strangely enough I thought the on-screen chemistry between Rob and Kristen was nowhere to be seen whereas I really enjoyed the scenes between Kristen and Taylor. I don't really give a crap about Jacob and was surprised how well Taylor portrayed him. The whole wolf-pack thing started to get a bit ridiculous with them prancing around half-naked most of the time. I know, I know it's part of the story but purlease!!!!
Ok, before I shred the movie any more to pieces I'll go and see it again preferably at a time when it's not packed with crazy, screeching girls.

Ok am just going to say one thing first – If you haven’t seen the film go WATCH it regardless of reviews. It is an amazing film. I have managed to watch it 3 times now and still think I could go on and on – you know what that means? Chris Weitz got something RIGHT!!

First I would like to review your reviews - I do respect everyone’s opinion and understand that each person watches a film on an individualized perspective and form own opinions, have different expectations of what they would like come to life. However, we must remember that movie makers who adapt books would never be able to bring the whole book on screen, they are also people like us with their own opinions but they don’t make their decisions based on one individual, its discussed with others – A screen writer’s mistake can destroy the whole film – In this case Melissa Rosenberg was better in new moon but not to my expectations – the actors needed more dialogue to fill in the blanks but at least she did not make them as silly as Twilight – that’s thumbs up for her – I hope she does better in the rest of the series.

Most of you have complained about Edward’s wardrobe and eyes, this is what I have to say: CW had to capture a MOOD – New Moon is all about THE MOOD! He had to use colours – colours that drip of sadness yet full of warmth, If Edward wore bright clothes , it would be difficult for Rob the actor alone to portray that. Hence no creams and whites on him – it would make him look angry instead of pained or rather constipated. So while you watch the film – just take a note of that.
Eyes: Although Stephanie gave hungry Vamps black eyes – it doesn’t work well in a movie which is trying to portray creatures! Why? Most humans have black, dark brown eyes – so its difficult to make Edward look different with just black eyes taking into account that he had less screen time – Eric has black eyes as human so how do you work with less screen time to make Edward look different?
Please you cant possibly compare the quality of New Moon to Twilight CAN NOT!
If you have watched the film and have watched it twice or is willing to watch it again then CW got it right – New Moon was the most boring followed by half of Breaking Dawn who ever will be making that film has a great challenge ahead of them. Of course there are several things he CW messed up on –and I will point them out in my next post.

one more thing, it's extremely important what kind of audience you watch it with.

I watched it couple of times and first time I was just overwhelmed because it was the premiere and there were stupid tweens who are team Jacob. I came out with mixed feelings. Then I watched it with some stupid teens who didn't take it seriously and cinema was laughing the whole time including Bellas' screaming scenes, I almost went ballistic and killed the whole crowd, I felt very upset after it. That's why I went 3rd time and it was during the day and there weren't that many people there and they all just wanted to watch it. I loved it then!

I absolutely loved this movie. 1000x better then the 1st one. The only area where Twilight beat new moon was the vampires make up (& Rosalie & Jaspers hair).

Unknown said...

just wanted to add about black eyes, in Twilight Edwards entrance was completely ruined for me by his black eyes. He looked blank and creepy. I like it better when they are gold.
I do agree on wigs though, Jasper did look like a poodle and Rosalies' distracted me so much I couldn't hear what she was saying.
Oh and the Bambi scene sent everybody laughing each time, it was too lamely cute. This is not how we envision Bella and Edward as vampires in BD, Summit please pay attention and get it right.

Marenostrum said...

@Marna, Edward says "You're the only reason for me to stay (extremely long pause) alive" with a long pause, because he doesn't know if he is really alive, that's the right term for him to use for himself. And you can understand that from his next sentence: "If that't what I am."...

Marenostrum said...

@stupid_lamb, we are just writing our feelings and thoughts ABOUT THE MOVIE. You wrote a whole paragraph about the people who didn't like it. Some will like it, some won't. That's the nature of life. We don't deserve less credit or your blessings for not liking New Moon.

miss_uta said...

OMG, the 'bambi scene' - the whole cinema burst out laughing, including me. It was just too much. I guess it works better as a still pic...
I felt kinda bad for the boyfriends and husbands who were dragged along. After the film ended I heard a couple of comments, 'I just don't get it' and 'this was the cheesiest movie I've ever seen'. Poor guys!!!

noisefaidaus said...

Well I'm with everyone that loved it. You have to keep in mind that Chris still had a small budget for this film yet it was a more complex story that needed to be told and he did it within the confines of a PG-13 rating no small feat!!!!

As far as I'm concerned he hit the mark, every key element that is necessary to get us to Eclipse was covered. You can't make a literal translation of a book to film, and anyone that was expecting that was deluding themselves.

In my humble opinion New Moon was better than Twilight for a variety of reasons that I won't bore you with, but I took my 29 year old son with me who has read the books once and he thought it was an excellent movie.

Chris, you made a kick ass film that should appeal to all genders and all ages.
Rob and Kristen you nailed your performances and captured all the romance, and angst.
And much to my surprise Taylor you were pretty good as Jacob.

Despite what the critics say, I believe Summit will have the last laugh all the way to the bank!

jlsentangledweb said...

All the negative comments about Rob's "wooden" acting are seriously irritating...have these people read the book at all? Edward is the essence of restraint and hesitation when it comes to Bella; even more so when he tears himself away from her in the forest. I think Rob did a great job conveying the bare repressed agony of leaving her like that.
Of course Chris Weitz could've added a bit more to explain several scenes better, I wouldn't have minded sitting another half hour in my seat.
As for the Jacob/Bella chemistry, both actors did a great job portraying that relationship, but through the biased eyes of a person who actually read the book, I saw it as Bella trying to get on with her life with a great friend...the type of mate you get after years of friendship, care, respect, and trust (not that that's a bad thing, hardly!)...but this is someone who's already been swept off her feet, who's given her entire heart and soul to someone who might not be the best person for her; he's what she NEEDS. And as comfortable as she is with Taylor's character, she still looks for ways to connect with Edward.
At least with all the people jumping Rob's ship, the poor man might be able to finally get some walking time to himself. Seriously, I might be upset at the fickleness of the public's focus on bulging muscles, but for Rob, this is probably a blessing in disguise. He's never taken the whole screaming and crying thing to heart, even saying that he "acts" on the red carpet and at meet and greets (complete with American accent) just so that he can separate himself from his character. That man is so down to earth, funny, and adorable...forget about the whole Mr. Sex on Legs (for a moment), it's when he opens his mouth to speak that I become truly ROBsessed.
Sorry this is so long. I didn't mean to preach to the choir. I do love your site and my husband thinks it's cute that a woman in her mid 30's is obsessed about a movie star. My husband took me to watch the movie, it was his suggestion that we go to the midnight showing, but I really wanted to avoid all the squealing. He said that I "glowed" during the reunion scene in Volterra...hmm, okay, I did.
I'm taking about 230 teens on a fieldtrip to watch it again on Tuesday...at least I know which parts I want to focus on and which parts I can spend focusing on my wild horde.

noisefaidaus said...

@jlsentangledweb!!!!
Way to go girl, I agree 100%!!!!!

Unknown said...

@jlsentangledweb
completely agree with you on the jumping the ship thing. More Rob left for us :), and hopefully the teenagers will lay off a bit so he can go back to his goofy relaxed self. Taylor seems to handle "the love" better, I still do feel very bad for him, since he is so young.

Loved it. What great acting by everyone. And Chris Weitz - genius. Loved the pizza/wrench passage of time. Loved the montage scene with Victoria getting chased into the water - much better than the book. Loved the bird showing how fast they were going. Loved the music. Loved the wire work, which was almost flawless. Loved the wolves. Loved the muffin scene and the "you're good with weird." Loved the relationship between Jake and Bella. Loved the Italy scenes. Loved loved loved Michael Sheen as Aro - perfect mix of friendly/creepy. Love the final confrontation between Edward and Jake - soooo much better than in the book. Loved the final line. Great movie. I've seen it twice and will see it at least two or three more times.

jlsentangledweb said...

I am really irritated at the negative comments about Rob's acting in NM; have these people not read the book?! Edward is the essence of restraint and hesitation when it comes to Bella, and never more so when he has to break her heart. I could see the repressed agony in his minute expressions- hell, even my husband could!
As for the chemistry between Bella and Jacob, it's supposed to be there, it's the setup for whole love triangle bit. And as for the people who jumped the good ship Edward/Robert, it just shows us who really read and understood the book and who were just enamored of the romance of the first movie and the half-naked six packs of the second.
However, I doubt that this bothers Rob much. Maybe he'll finally get some hassle-free time to himself. He seems a lot more confident during his interviews and such, but you don't really see him smiling outside of them either. As heart-meltingly beautiful as he is, it's when he speaks that I really become ROBsessed...he's adorable, shy, and witty.

I LOVED ALICE, she was so freakin' GREAT in new moon in comparison to twilight!! and the way bella writes her emails on a daily basis!

oh! and when harry got a heartattack because of victoria, so awesome. and i loved his "kung fu" line.. haha :-)

i truly MISSED billy black!

my favorite part of the movie is the time passes, when she just sits in her chair and you see the season change outside the window. i died inside, so sad!!!!

I agree with alex. Kristen was great. I'm angry with people who still think that she didn't show Bella's depression correctly. PhinPhan said...

OK, HERE IT GOES:from someone who has read the books 3 x and listened to the audiobooks 3 x...New Moon the movie was good. BUT to me it did not convey the crux of the story: the very near death of Bella's heart. Yes, she did dangerous things. But, the excruciating pain as described in the book was not evident to me. The breakup scene was lacking, the reunion scene was perhaps too subtle, the bedroom scene was dispassionate, the proposal scene was even more so. I again say that as a fan I am thankful to have a New Moon movie at all and will undoubtedly watch it many, many times. But the CENTER of the story and the very reason that Twilight is the phenomenon that it is (the superhuman beyond heaven and earth love story, even more powerful than Romeo & Juliet, Wuthering Heights and Pride & Prejudice) was NOT felt by me, the viewer. I don't want to have to remember that it is "just a movie" or think about the budget or keep in mind this or that as mentioned in other posts. I want to see the love & pain & happiness. The rest is just back story. Even in the most recent Pride & Prejudice movie with Kiera Knightly, the love & pain is very must FELT by the viewer as it would be in real life. If the director had been able to succeed in showing us the devastation of this lost-love story aspect, the movie would have been a brilliant success and I would have forgiven the wigs, contacts, makeup, BellaVampire scene, misplaced (although wonderful) music, nightmare screaming, etc. That is why I think Twilight is the better movie....the director DID succeed in showing us the core of the story....THE LOVE STORY....and I was able to forgive the rest. TRUE, BLUE FAN OF EDWARD, BELLA AND THE TWILIGHT BOOK SERIES.

shirleegirl said...

Edward/Rob's makeup and clothing were horrible in the movie - I almost felt they were trying to make him look bad and focus on Jacob more. Hated his too red lips and eye color and totally agree that they made the chemistry between Bella/Jacob stronger (other than the kiss before the breakup). Having said all that, I will continue to support the franchise and actors, I only hope that Edward is back to looking like the teenager he is supposed to be in Eclipse and not an 107 year old man.

i dunno ... said...

Here’s my two cents.

I attended the first showing where I live on Friday night and then went again last night. Like many of the other commenters, I couldn’t really relax and enjoy the first viewing because there was just too much to take in- waiting for the next scene, etc. so I knew from the get go that I’d be going twice. Enjoyed it more the second time, but that might’ve been that the crowd was more fun the second night. Jacob’s nakedness got more squeals from the audience. The biggest reaction for Edward was his slo-mo walk at the beginning but personally I preferred the slo-mo walk from the Volvo ad.

All I can say is, that goodness I still have Twilight. New Moon was everything I expected it to be from the moment I heard it was going to have a male director. Chris Weitz was great at what he does best - action scenes. My favourite, goose-bump-raising scene in the movie was actually the sequence with Victoria through the forest. The camera angles, techniques, effects, music - everything was perfect. The rest of the movie lacked the sweetness and tenderness of Twilight. The “chemistry” between Bella and Edward was non-existent. This is supposed to be someone you’d be willing to die for but I never felt that level of emotion. Even the intimate scenes between them left me wanting. The scenes with Bella and Jacob were better but not fleshed out enough.

In terms of the look of the movie, remember the Pacific Northwest is supposed to be the wettest and gloomiest part of the States and Catherine managed to evoke this mood with her use of blue tint effectively. Chris’ Forks could have been anywhere. All of the vampires’ eyes were off-putting and too distracting and I didn’t like the vampires’ make up either. I thought it was supposed to have improved from Twilight, but I found myself missing Twilight’s styling (I miss your beautiful hair Edward!). Let’s not even go down 40-year-old-Edward’s wardrobe or Nikki’s hideous wig! She’s supposed to be the most beautiful woman in the world people! What you did to her and Jackson was cruel.

Kristen’s acting disappointed again. The nervous ticks and lip-biting were still there and you could almost see the mental effort it took for her to keep suppressing them. I loved the tender scene with Bella and Carlisle after her accident. And I agree with some of the others. If the love of my life was breaking up with me I was have dissolved into hysterics right there in the forest and begged him not to go. Both of them played that scene too woodenly! The reunion scene was anti-climatic. And let me preface this by saying I love Robert to bits, but I missed Twilight Edward who was vulnerable, sweet, intense and most of all sexy!

Anna Kendrick’s Jessica was brilliant and so were Justin Chon and Alex Meraz. Michael Sheen was a bit too camp for me though I liked the actor who played Marcus. So droll. The problem with an ensemble cast is that there are so many characters, you can’t spend enough time with them all so you end up with a movie where some characters who are quite significant in the books end up having one or two lines at most (I’m looking at you Jackson).

I think all the hype around this series was created by Twilight and peaked with the release of NM. I will probably see Eclipse, but I don’t think I will care as much. I hate BD the book and can’t see how it will match the tone of the other movies. Would probably only watch it if Tim Burton directs.

And Summit, please calm down with the pre-release spoilers. We don’t need to see the entire movie in clips, trailers and stills before Eclipse is released. A little more judicious marketing would not be amiss. It was odd watching a movie I’d seen so much of before.

i dunno ... said...

@Becky - I agree 100%

trini- Kristen is not my favourite actress either but in case you read the books you should know that the lip biting actually is totally the character! Bella does it all the time!

I have watched Twilight movie and DVD many times over and still get the thrill each time. But the NM that i just watched left me in a void/vacuum. I don't know why? This is not for me. But i'm still Robsessed. I've seen all of his acting in previous movies and NM did not do him justice.

I'm interested in comments that the onscreen chemistry between Kristen and Taylor was stronger than between Kristen and Rob. My litmus test is do I want to watch these two actors together in any situation? I didn't feel that with K/T. They both did a nice job of creating a relationship, but that's not the same thing, IMO.

Angela said...

OK, I'm one of those who didn't enjoy it. I feel so bad. I think, like Alex, it was the crowd (team Jacob idiots and kids), or my morning sickness, or the fact that my hubby was there. Maybe I watched too many spoilers? Maybe I was in a bad mood? Maybe I've been too excited about it for 100 days?

But, I really didn't like it. :(
I liked it up until the breakup. I cried like a baby.

But then the whole DOG thing just bored the crap out of me. The dog fight was tacky, very Michael Vic.

So, I love my Edward and his bits. When Felix restrained him and his chest is heaving. My God. I loved it when he said "Heaven" and his smiles when he realizes she's there.

But, I really was saying "oh puh-leeze" thru the whole thing. So cheezy. Alice jumps over a rail, Janes red marble eyes, Bella as Holly Hobby, the illuminated Rio statue, Aro acting so freaky...it was just not believable to me.

And why sooo many long intimate scenes with Jacob, but she can't answer the question if she forgives him or not? They can't make out in the bed a bit and cry together or some kind of reunion?

I feel so bad, I'm sorry to say it,
and I will go see it again, after the morning sickness passes and without my husband and give it another chance. Let's hope I just need to give it another chance because i feel terrible today. i really really feel like someone should apologize to me, or I should apologize to Rob or what.

OH Rob....I do love you I do. I feel so bad....

Girls, like I said yesterday in the spoiler post... these things should take more time.
They rushed the film too much. And the third one is already done!
One more thing, a film is NEVER as good as the book (with one or two exceptions), it just doesn't happen. The 'movie' WE see in our minds, while reading a book, is always better (at least, I can tell for myself).
Try not to be so hard on them...

Robsess, girls!

Becky I agree completely with what you said about NM lacking the passion and intensity of Twilight. It lacks the HEART of what makes the Twilight saga great, which is the E/B love story. that emotion/passion/intensity/joy and anguish when they're apart.

And I'm sorry but for those of you saying that Taycob and Kisten/Bella have on screen chemistry, I disagree completely. I was bored out of my mind in the middle parts. I'm sorry but TayTay has no charm/charisma or screen presence. He did an okay job portraying Jacob, okay and completely forgettable. He is dull, and no amount of abs can fix that.

The only one who I thought was perfectly cast in the wolf pack was Alex Miraz, and he is the only sexy one amongst them too.

Well first and foremost I didn't like how they rushed the E/B parts and the Volterra part. They skipped my favorite part when Bella has the melt down in Edward's arms and he holds her close and soothes her. I love those parts when Edward just holds Bella and they cuddle as he soothes her and makes her feel safe and protected *dreamy sigh*. So instead of all the un-important stuff, they should have included this important E/B scene!

Also the scene in Bella's bedroom was too short. They rushed the E/B reunion parts that we didn't get to savor them or even fully enjoy the emotional feeling of those scenes because it was over so quickly!

I also thought that the ending was abrupt, Bella looking at Edward stunned that he would offer to turn her (make her dreams come true) if she married him. We all know she says yes and all. So there was no need for such an abrupt ending, I wanted a more satisfying, E/B intimate moment/scene (sort of like Twilight), kind of ending.

I also really didn't like that they had Bella tell Jacob "I love you" at this point in the story. But there are many types of love so I took it as "I love you as a friend" type of thing. But anyways Bella never told Jacob anything like this at this point in the story. However now that she has said it here in the movie version, I am thinking that hopefully the end J/B part in Eclipse will be different (which means that this change although annoying to me now, could come with good results for eclipse i.e downplaying the love triangle and focusing on the E/b love story, I had better get some tender cuddling and slow sizzling sexual tension! And also focus on Edward’s fight to protect Bella *fingers crossed*)

I also didn't like that Jacob touched his lips to Bella's at the almost kiss, that didn't even happen in the book.

I also didn't like the editing of the movie, it was too rushed at moments when tension should have been built (going to Volterra), and moments when emotion should have been built (the E/B reunion). So while I loved those E/B and Volterra scenes, I still think that they were rushed and could have been much better. But too much time was wasted on un-important stuff and banter that the important /emotional climatic E/B scenes suffered greatly because of that.

Plus I don't understand why they couldn't have made the movie 2 hours and 20 minutes long (those 20 minutes could have been used to present the E/B scenes as should be without condensing them!)

I'm done ranting for now, lol...it's a good movie overall, but it could have been SO much better, I expected it to be better...

But on another note Robward stole every scene he appeared in. Unfortunately he didn't have a lot of scenes, and because of Edward's lack of active presence for the most part the movie suffered as well (alongside Bella, lol).

On another note why do some people complain about the lack of sex between E/B at this point? I love that for once we have a romance/love story that builds up slowly and emotionally before the jumping into bed part. Until we get to the climax in BD when they finally consumate their love to each other, AFTER they are married (which is a very good thing, it makes the intimacy much more meaningful because we know that they are irrevocably in love, that they waited for each other and the right moment).

Jumping into bed is NOT sexy!! It is that slow build, that sexual tension, that increased emotion and love as the story continues that makes the wait all the worth while and much MUCH sexier then just jumping into bed.

@butterfly: I think it's a good idea not to read too many reviews.:) Interestingly, the trade papers and some major critics like Turan are being more reasonable in their assessment of the film. They're not uncritical but they also talk about the movie's strong points. Turan goes as far as to imply NM needs more Rob. I can guess why but I'm not arguing. Lol A lot of people seem to really dislike Twilight and Catherine's direction but I still enjoy it, for obvious reasons, but I doubt it's because it's a masterpiece. ;)
I think one of the problems with the advance promo for NM is that Summit knows Rob is a huge draw card, so they showed a disproportionate amount of his screen time. It skewed expectations and wasn’t an accurate reflection of the film. One of the reasons why it might be easier on a second viewing.

Butterfly25 said...

Yeah, I think Summit failed at this point. They shouldn't show so much movie before it hit theaters. Many people expected far too much from the movie becuase of the really cool trailers and all the scenes shown.

But well, I will try not to care about all those negative comments.

I loved the movie so much!!!

@ Stupid Lamb
I totally agree, whole heartedly about Bella not feeling like she was worth Edward's love. In the book I felt that hole in her chest, I felt the unworthiness, it felt so right that she did not hold on to him & try to make him stay...but in the movie I did not feel it. I did not feel that depth of being unworthy, the scene could have been so much harsher & deeper. I heard so many people outside the movie saying "if you hadn't read the series, you wouldn't have gotten the depth of their love" and that bugs me because there are some movies that are so painful & connect you with the heartbreak without having read a backstory. I sobbed my way through notebook & never read the book. So not sure if the scene needed more dialogue or more acting but I just wanted 'more'..which is always the case with loving the Twilight Saga I guess!

**random topic: I was distracted by Edward having very pale undead bloodless lips in Italy but then when he is back in Forks he is sporting lipstick again...why?

Marna and Panda:

In regards to the Vampire Diaires...the Vampire Diaries were actually written years before SM wrote Twilight. So it's not fair to say it's a Twilight knock off. I actually like Twilight more, but facts are facts.

SM also initially wrote Twilight for adults and she had to edit alot because publishers insisted her books were geared for young adults. Although as a mormon I believe she would've still had Edward stick to his guns about the "wait until we're married" angle, which as a Mom I can appreciate that. The Moral lesson being shown to alot of young girls out there (keep in mind 8 y/o's read these books!) is a GOOD thing in todays society of casual sex!

For us in the older set there are some excellent fan fictions out there "The List" by Laura Cullen over at Twilighted is one of my favorites :)

Now I LOVED the NEW MOON, sure I could pick apart little things that might have been done different but as a TRUE fan of TWILIGHT, Kristen Stewart and ROBERT PATTINSON, I choose not to jump on the negativity train and I will just be HAPPY!!!

In general I really enjoyed the movie. I was never expecting it to be oscar-worthy, but it was entertaining and I felt that it stayed true to the book. I didn't like Twilight because they changed so many scenes, like the dinner and car scene, and the meadow scene. In fact, I thought Twilight was terrible and only watched it because Rob is so hot. Chris did a great job with special effects and making the Cullens look like pale vampires and not like they had just been dunked in a vat of powdered sugar a la Twilight. Edward's sparkling was much closer to what I pictured it to be in New Moon than in Twilight. Alice's vision of Bella as a vamp was pretty ridic though, and just about everyone in the theatre laughed or said WTF. It was silly and could have been done better, but that is my only major complaint. Billy was hot, such a DILF, and Robward looked great, although his wardrobe left something to be desired. I liked that a lot of the dialogue came straight from the book, and while I am very anti-Team Jacob, I thought Taylor did a great job and he looked smokin hot. I enjoyed the film and while it wasn't ground-breaking cinema, it was fun and much much better than Twilight in my opinion.

PandA-

I think the pale lips in Italy was meant to convey his sadness and in the book Bella says how much worse he looks and that he hasn't hunted in forever, hence the pale, bloodless lips. I think we are meant to understand that he has been hunting again once him and Bella are reunited and return the US.

Even though I thought the movie was too rushed and editing was poor, I still loved it.

I mean for it to have been perfect, it needed to be 3 hrs long.

I really missed Edward bringing Bella home and Charlie yelling at Edward that he was to never walk through their door again .

I also missed the whole discussion about her going to his house for the family vote, and then him getting angry and breaking something in the house.

Even though Edward looked so tortured in Italy his eyes should have been black...

I loved the movie and get to see it again today and tomorrow!!!

1. Kristen Stewart owned that moview. Everything about her performance was amazing, and i agree with most of the critics that acting wise, she is the one that carried the movie

2. Really suprised by how much i loved Kristen/Taylor's chemistry. Im still 100& Team Edward but I loved all the Jacob/Bella stuff which was surprising because i couldnt stand it in the book, so props to TL and KS.

3. Rob in that breakup scene completely broke my heart

I gotta say it's great to see franchise driven by female fans doing so well. Suits should learn, and listen.

I agree about that one "vision." I really don't understand Chris including it. I know it's meant to be Bella's romantic view, like Edward's slo-mo approach in the parking lot is her viewpoint, but it just doesn't work. Didn't anyone say anything during final edit and prescreens? Anyone?? ANY...

@ Alex, Exactly! I'm shocked at the negativity coming out here---I mean, nitpicking aside, it's a really good movie that FOLLOWS THE BOOK.

Bella's nightmares/screaming, in the book. Bella's moodiness over her b-day/aging (aka, not happy/smiley), in the book. I'd go on, but...

One thing, in defense of Bella (and Kristen---who DOES GET Bella IMO)---Bella is an introvert; she is not going to be perky or emotional and show it. Old phrase---Still Waters Run Deep; personifies Bella. The more you feel something, if you're like this, the more you internalize it. It's THAT important to you---like breathing. I felt the B&E pain/connection because it was understated (as written true to their characters). Bella's broken pleas for Edward when she's lost in the forest? Perfect.

This wasn't a happy book people---and hats off to the cast---they captured all the heartbreak exactly (who cares about bad contacts or wigs!). This story is necessary for Bella to grow/mature and Kristen did an excellent job. Bella's going to be a true partner to Edward, not some simpering lovesick girl...

Saw it for the third time yesterday and I loved it even more because I just enjoyed it, rather than hunting for book diffs! I know where this all ends and I am happy!

There are some amazing visuals in the movie that improve parts of the book---Victoria/Wolf Hunt/Cliff Jump rocks! and the Volturi fight scene---OMG. I like the music more now than I did at first.

The complaint about lack of B&E reunion, also in the book people! And Edward is NOT happy about potentially changing Bella, hence the gloomy tude. CW moved Edward's apology up a bit, but in essence, it's the same. And I'll grant him artistic license in tweaking the proposal spiel (aka book bedroom scene) in order to spin us up for Eclipse.

Count me in as a very happy fan! Love this movie!

One add'l comment: None of it matters if the emotion isn't experienced by the audience. This story is one of emotion. I cry at almost any movie that attempts to evoke an emotional response. I cry every time I read the breakup scene in New Moon and at the effects of said break up. Hell, I bawl my eyes out during the ASPCA commericials. I did not feel a whole heck of alot during this movie. That is a shame. Something def missing if this crybaby wasn't moved. That being said I thought the rest of it was outstanding. But that's kind of like going out to dinner and liking everything but your meal. Not a hater of the movie, just a lover of the novels.

@amazeofgrace
Thank you so much for the Vampire Diaries info, I had NO idea it was written before...I love the series as part of needing a vampire/love story fix but it is SO similar to Twilight it always begs the question in my mind of who came up with what first (17yrs old, animal blood, etc)

Great, good, bad, negative I LOVE these reviews. I love that everyone is fired up in one way or another about the saga...I am so thankful it was written (and made into movies)...When it comes down to it I think my life is a happier place because Twilight & Robert exists, and yes I do have a very full life including a husband and an insanely amazing young child BUT I love having Twilight in my life, proud to say.

I am very Robsessed & so I am one of those people who eats up their interviews etc. I think one problem I am having with New Moon not being the best movie I have ever seen 7 ripping my heart out & putting it back together (like I felt with the book) is that I LOVE the interviews of the actors talking about what they did in the film or what the film is essentially about. Especially KS & RP, they have such an amazing grasp on everything and are so devoted but then I saw the movie (both of them) and was a(tiny) bit let down. So much insight & passion about the characters in interviews and then in the movies I did not feel it as much. Not sure if that points to screenwriting or directing or acting (gasp) Want to make it clear I LOVE the franchise & adore CW and love the movies for what they are...but I guess I am too much a Rob & Twinerd to just let it all be what it is and not dig for more.
Some have mentioned it but I really came away with a new respect for KS, good or bad reviews on how she is/isn't Bella the girl worked her ass off. She is in almost every scene, she must have been exhausted! My husband (who is NOT on the Twi train but humors me, love him) even said that if he was KS he would be a bit bitter of all the love TL & RP are getting from all corners of the world, since she is the one who essentially carriers the film...I guess it says something about fangirls vs. fanboys but this thirty-something woman has had a girl crush on KS since her amazing work in Speak.

wonderwoman said...

Ok, I know this will set off a firestorm but....am I the only one who did not love the ending of "Will you marry me?" and then shocked Bella and then black screen. I LOVE the storyline of the proposal (and as someone earlier mentioned the proposal, marriage before sex, I am not mormon but this type of sexual tension is seriously lacking in society & films lately and so that is one thing that made twilight such a draw for me) but I think it would have had more punch had it not been done in such a soap opera format, since we all know where the series eventually goes.

I loved the book where there is the decision by Bella between Jacob & Edward, the pain of Jacob and then the holding Edwards hand and walking forward into their uncertain future. In American movies it always seems like you have the big bang, the cliff hanger but when I watch foreign films I am always intrigued and entrenched in the gentle quietness/power of a non-big bang moment. Don't get me wrong, I am forever grateful that Summit threw its made-in-America money/stamp behind getting the books to film...personally I just prefer the quiet strength to the big finish. Anyone?

I never thought about it like that and I have to agree. Through all the promotion the main discussion was about this being “Taylor’s Movie” and Kristen’s role was kind of sidelined, but I saw some reports which said he was only in it for 36 minutes or something, so she really carries the whole thing. I may not be a fan, but kudos to her for doing that. Looks like the movie is kicking at the box office, so well done

Finally the movie is out in Germany, and I watched a double feature Twilight/New Moon today. I´m sooo glad that so many of you think the same as I do - it wasn´t that good.

Loved Rob, his acting was true to the character. Kristen is just boring, Taylor did a grat job as well. Michael Sheen was the best actor in the movie.

As for Chris Weitz - I expected so much of him, I was sooo disappointed! Although I don´t like Catherine Hardwickes attitude at the moment, her directing was much much better, probably because she´s a woman!

I think they tried too hard to make this movie more appealing for guys, but that went all wrong.

So as I could compare the two movies directly, I liked Twilight better. I am almost ashamed of myself for saying this.

I hope they don´t make Eclipse into an action movie!

@Susanne
As far as "I hope they don't make Eclipse into an action movie" sorry :-( I read an article by MR screenwriter that said Eclipse is more action packed than the previous two, she was 'liberal' in her creation of more newborn backstories & RP recently said in an interview that Eclipse is much different than New Moon because it is more adrenaline-action paced. I am not completely freaked out yet, as long as they use some of that adrenaline in the key romantic scenes (leg hitch, tent threesome) & never include an anne of green gables *bambi scene again!
*kudos to the light sparkle & eyes of the bambi scene for Bella but as the people behind me in the theater laughed & remarked "I thought this was a future vision from Alice not a prehistoric vision from the 1920's meadow sock hop!"

cher said...

I just want to add that it is not impossible for a movie to be better than the book. Sometimes it can convey much more emotions because of the actors, the music, the visual, etc. For example, the movie Note Book presented a much more passionate love story than the book. It is so believable and convincing and moving just by acting without using so much screen time. Also i read Remember Me script. The trailer feels way better and deeper than the script itself. But this time i won't keep my expectation high tho cause maybe the RM trailer has all the best parts like NW. I mean the movie should show the details to back up the trailer not just an extended version of a trailer or a summary of all the major points of the book. It has to convey emotions and connect to the audience!

I feel bad for Rob this time. But maybe it is a good thing for him too as there will be still room for him to peak, to top.

I know there has to be more action, because there is more action in the book as well.
But as you said, I hope they don´t forget the romantic aspects and the deep love between Edward and Bella.

My fear at the moment is that they try to make Eclipse into a blockbuster movie that has just something of everything for all audiences. Sure they might stick to the book, but what will they show?

I saw New Moon with my 13 year old daughter and 11 year old son. We are all big Twilight fans and loved the first movie. We all found this one disappointing despite Kristen and Taylor giving great performances. I think Catherine Hardwick has such a passionate personality and would have brought more to this movie. Chris Wetiz seems like such a great person and I know all the actors seemed to really like him, but I just don't think this movie was anywhere near as good as the first one and I don't think it's the actors fault. We're huge RPatz fans, but Taylor Lautner's performance in this movie was spectacular and I think he'll be the Tom Cruise of his generation.

I just also wanna do my ranting over here, since I can't seem to vent it out on anybody around me!

I love and hate the film, I'm sorry I know I have valid reasons like you guys but mostly it's related to Jacob and the people rooting for him. First I have to agree with some people here, that it seemed slow and fast all at the same time, Chris got that slow part which was the absence of Edward, but it was fast at the same time because the time with Edward was quick (like Chris doesn't want Edward there)and I have to agree I didn't feel the love, on both sides (E&B) I only applauded and felt melting when Rob was smiling on the carpark scene, and can anybody tell me why the heck was there a scene of hugging bella and jacob while the latter was giving a gift!?(I think Chris was on team Jacob!!) first off there was nothing like that and I mean nothing not even on Eclipse book, Jacob gave Bella a graduation gift not a bday gift!!

I hated the fact that Bella was closer not just emotionally but physically to Jacob, that's also where the fast aspect comes in, like their relationship was too touchy..hey in the book there was an almost kiss but in the film their upper lips literally touched!and bella looked more like disappointed for the interruption than relief (which was in the book) and I hated that hair grabbing thing, shouldn't she have done something like that with Edward!!??And did anyone of you noticed how Bella was able to say I LOVE you to Jacob but none for Edward!? I mean that's what I was looking for..Edward was able to say that but Bella!?

Unknown said...

I liked the movie, I'm not here to bash it, and I am certainly not a "hater" as some like to refer to people who were disappointed with it. I am a Twilight/Rob fan thru and thru. There were a lot of good things about the film, special effects were great, Jacob and the wolfpack did well, all the humans, and Voluturi were awesome, but I have to agree that something was off with the film.

The scenes were rushed and we were definitely cheated out of the ending, back in her room. I know not everything from the book can make it in, but the ending is what will stick with people and they rushed way too fast thru it. Lengthen the movie if needed, Summit will still make zillions.

And Kristen did not look like a girl who was 'totally and irrevocably' in love with Edward. She needs to show more emotion at the end especially. Look him in the eye for heaven's sake! I really think Kristen feels awkward around Rob(or at least she did back when they were filming NM)

Say what you will about Catherine, but she got the essence of the book in the 1st movie. I'm very concerned about Eclipse(and, for those hating the wigs, just remember Kristen wears one in Eclipse). Breaking Dawn hopefully will have a director who gets the female fan base that built the series.

Unknown said...

@lynda - I know exactly how you feel..most of the time people were rooting for Jacob, I think it was mostly men because men liked action and Jacob gives them that..while Edward is the epitome of everything romantic, I also had to react to the overly done haggard look on Edward in the Italy scene, he was supposed to looked tortured but beautiful (even peaceful base on the book) NOT like some harrassed raped victim..ugh I know I love Chris and he has done some scenes wonderfully but he didn't do Edward justice, the book is really not about Jacob and Bella or that cliche of their relationship developing, it was all about Bella's coping on heartbreak and Jacob was clearly just on the sideline of things!(an anchor to hold onto)

solas said...

I agree about Kristen carrying the film-- all along there were the comments about Rob passing the torch to Taylor, but really, it was Kristen, and she portrayed the emotions exactly as they were in the book, brought the book to life. I did not find chemistry between Kristen and Taylor. I do think just a bit more time, to have the really meaningful, really necessary dialogue between Bella and Edward, could have made all the difference.

Unknown said...

I have a feeling we got different books here in Australia. In the book there feels like much less Edward all together. I had very big problems reading that book, even throwing it in the wall. For me, the movie was good, just because I started to believe that Bella could fall in love with Jacob, whereas reading the books I couldn't understand it. Both books and the movie do not focus on E&B love, and it's not supposed to, that's what we had Twilight for. New Moon is mostly about Bella rebuilding herself and falling in love with Jacob.

Unknown said...

I also wanna comment on Kristen's acting, althrough out the film I thought she has improved much..although I hated the fact that she did more intimate scenes with Jake than with Edward..I already said that the book was focusing on HEARTBREAK, and I just didn't see more of that..it has never been Jacob and Bella it never will be, and Chris Weitz just didn't get that..

i dunno ... said...

@BarbG - If it’s one thing Summit can’t seem to get right it’s the hair! I was so distracted by Rosalie’s mop at the end I don’t remember what she said. Can you imagine what it’s going to be like watching 2 hours of Eclipse with Kristen wearing a wig? Her extensions in this movie were bad enough (red hair on top and all that dark hair underneath)

Unknown said...

@trinitwilightlvr

the Bella wig thing scares the crap out of me, it's my favorite book and to ruin it with a wig would be a crime of deadly proportions.

Unknown said...

@trinitwilightlvr - you are so right about being so distracted with Rosalie's wig that I didn't even remember what she said! That is so true! hahaha!! She's got to be embarrassed about that. Well, maybe if we all take reeeally low expectations into Eclipse, we'll find a way to pay attention. Sad huh? haha!

All I know is, I better see some dang emotion from Bella around Edward. Yeah, she struggles with her feelings for Jacob, blah, blah, blah, but Edward is her soulmate, show him some love! That's what we're all here for sister:)

I am not the young demographic that the books were geared towards. I went to see Twilight more by accident then design. I walked out of the cinema feeling lighthearted with the music still ringing in my ears. I returned to see it time and again and ALWAYS came out feeling the same.
It was not a brilliantly made movie but it had something. Visually attractive (well Rob was at least) with a beautiful love story and great music.
New Moon did not have that affect on me.
I have the same disappointments with this movie that others have already written about so there is no need to dissect it again.
For those who feel that nothing negative should be said I disagree. We are all entitled to make up our own minds and voice our own opinions. We are not sheep.
The zillions that Summit is making out of this franchise is quite unbelievable really. We, the fans, have spent a staggering amount of money, not just on the movie, but also on the merchandise. So in return, if they are going to sell the HYPE they should deliver on it.
I do not believe that this movie has done this.
In some parts I will even go so far as to suggest that I felt that CW was having a bit of a sly laugh at Twilight fans.
I DID like the Volturi fight scene and ALL THINGS ROB(I could be a little biased there though??)
I did not feel the "LOVE" or the music.

Okay, I've been reading all these comments despite not yet having seen the movie, and I am not surprised by any of them, good or bad. I have to say that I admire the Robsessors who are brave enough to express their disappointment in the movie. From the moment I learned that New Moon was going to be a big Hollywood blockbuster type film, I was worried. Not usually my type of movie (there are definitely exceptions though). I haven't before bothered to defend Catherine Hardwick on these threads, but I've wanted to. Despite some incredibly cringe-worthy and laugh-out-loud scenes in Twilight, some questionable dialogue, etc., she selected Rob and Kristen as her leads. She was right on. And she chose Carter Burwell for the score. His incredible compositions were integral to those feelings of infatuation and desire. I always remember the simple and beautiful guitar/piano melody that slowly begins and builds during the biology scene when E & B have their first conversation. CH also put together a great soundtrack, including Rob’s music. And she orchestrated The Kiss. That kiss kills me. Every. time. I. see. it. And Rob looked so incredibly hot in that scene (no makeup there that I could see), and in many scenes in Twilight: teeny crooked smile after catching fallen apple, first entrance into cafeteria, smile before whisking Bella out into the trees. It sounds like he spends most of New Moon in that hideous middle-aged man's suit. I know that Twilight had many, many flaws, but I felt that intense love and need, thanks to Rob, Kristen, Carter Burwell, and yes, Catherine Hardwick.

I hope I can find something as powerful or moving (whether it be the love or the complete desolation) in New Moon when I do finally see it, which will be awhile due to nightmarish deadlines through early December, as well as my fear of screaming teens and long lines. Chris Weitz seems like such a nice guy, who really put a lot of effort into the film, and into making the fans happy. And it sounds like he nailed some scenes, especially the action and special effects. I will try to keep an open mind, despite my misgivings. It was not at all an easy book to translate to film. I’m rooting for him.

Ok, I saw it for the first time last night and loved it. Not to say it didn't have its faults, but I still enjoyed it very much. Although I have come to the conclusion that the perfect directing for Breaking Dawn would be CH and CW both together as there are things I liked better from each director, and together they could balance the film out. She could bring in more of the romance, and he could do all the action. Perfection. ;)

When the Remember Me trailer cam on everyone screamed. When Robward went shirtless, i was prepared to scream but no one did (i was debating whether or not i should of), and, best of all, when Edward "proposes", the screen goes black, and then 2 seconds after it went black, someone yelled, "WHAT HE F*CK?!)! Everyone was too bust laughing so hard to be in shock after the cliffie.

Over all, it was a GREAT movie!!!
A lot more humor, and it was longer (thankfully)!

qiupang said...

I like Twilight better, but think both movies have their weakness/strength.

NM is more polished and surpasses twilight from all technical parts, but it lost the edge/passion of Twilight.

Music is too loud/distracting sometimes.

Edward's lipstick and pasty makeup/tweed suit/runny lower eyeliner. Twlight's makeup (eyebrow/hair) was funny sometimes too, but overall better.

Editing choppy and feels like CW just checked the boxes of some of the scenes he needs to show...

Edward is just a thankless role and Rob got a lot of critics' bashing this time around (for Twilight the comment on his performance was much more positive).

SluttyPattz said...

OK so I saw the movie for the third time today. It gets better each time for me.

I didn't like bambi scene where Bella looks to be changed. I loved Robs facial expressions I felt his PAIN and got chills. Even when Jane immobolizes him I thought it was good.

It felt like the scense with Bella and Jacob flowed more seemlessly together but then the scenes with Edward and Bella were rushed.

Billy Burke is awesome. I can't wait for eclipse. I have read the reviews from critics and its amamzing to me how some of the reviews are great and then others are horrid. IMO this movie was better than twilight. There were things I did not like, but for the most part it's a win win for me.

I must give a second review now that I've seen "New Moon" from the second time, because my take the second time around was so different. This time I went with my husband because he really wanted to see it too after my review from Thursday night. Well, he ♥LOVED♥ it!! He didn't get the same impressions at all. He hasn't read the books, so he didn't have any expectations the way I did. I was a little surprised by his reaction, but really I shouldn't have had, he really enjoyed "Twilight" too. He thought it was better then "Twilight", he fell in love with Ashley Greene and has almost as big a crush on her and I have on Rob. (Pay Back is a Bitch!) He loved the scenes of Rachelle running through the forest and especially loved that overview with the crow in slow motion, which I had to agree was a real money shot! But that of course got him bitching about her being replaced in Eclipse because he thinks she's just about perfect.

He identified with Charlie which again isn't surprizing since we have a daughter, a bit of 'been there, done that' threw away the T-shirt. He thought Rob was really good and thinks he's the better actor between him and Kristen, although I know Rob would disagree. But I agree with Hubby..

His main complaint is that he thought the Volturi had too much make up on.

So personally? I liked the movie far more the second time, this film needs lots and lots of viewings, don't ya think? I certainly will be going again since it just seems to improve.
It helped that the crowd Sunday night was much older, 25-30+, we weren't swamped with "Team Jacob" tweenies..thank God, couldn't take many more of those! Again, it had quite a few males.

I saw NM yesterday. Where were you Edward my Edward? He was lost among kabuki make up red lips and far way shoots. Where were your facial expresions Rob my Rob? No eye contact, no crooket smilies. No my life was a moonless night. Don't get me wrong I loved the movie but there was no Edward and Bella love story there. The reunion.. so much left out rashed and flat. Kristen did an excellent job, Tay so adorable I felt for him at the end. I didn't get any erotic vibe from the two of them just friends and sometimes motherly vibes from Kristen. I loved the ending it rocked. Rob sometimes totally nailed it and sometimes totally lost it. I coudn"t wait for the Romeo and Juliet lines and those were so flat. Where was your sexy voice Rob? I am going again today so will see. I missed Edward Cullen from twilight so much.

I think New Moon is better than Twilight. It's visually fantastic.
The sequence containing wolves chasing Victoria/Bella's cliff diving - excellent!
The Voulturi - great.
But Alice's vision of Bella as a vampire - hilaroius!!! What the hell is this shitty scene doing in the final cut? Everyone in the movie was ROTFL. And the same thing at the beginning when Edward arrives to the school and walks in a slow motion towards Bella :DDDDD
God, did noone notice that Rob is not Zac Efron and it doesn't suit him?

Taylor Lautner did great, Rob as well. Kristen doesn't get me altough she was a little better than in the first movie. Her mimic is always the same and it's frustraiting to watch her.

Besides all that I liked the movie - the script was quite close to the book. The shots were great. After seeing trailers I thought the action will be faster at some points. But you can't have everything ;-) It's not a masterpiece but I'd see it again ;-)

I did not watch the movie yet either. And I totally agree with you. Some things in Twilight made it jus'adorable to me. Rob is a perfect Edward. I love the music. The music in Biology; Rob playing piano!! Oh God, how many times did I see it?? No idea. And Rob's first scene, when he comes in the cafeteria? I always go back on the DVD to watch it again... It was wonderfully done (and the music? Aww!) I love the extra care CH had with 'their love'; some of the scenes could make me cry. The kiss does. Both of them, actually (and I am old enough to be Rob's mom!!)

It is not my favourite film, but kind of a 'cult movie' to me now, for a lot of special reasons. I think some of you girls can understand that.

Well hell! I love it! And it grew on me a lot more after each view... I know that with NM will be that way, too.
I'll tell you!
Have a good day!
xoxo

Whew, I really ran-on at the keyboard there, didn't I?
You have yourself a great day too!
We'll have to swap impressions of NM when we finally see it ourselves.....

Here is my piece on NM - its a bit long - SORRY!.
I went to see it opening day, and then again the following day at a matinee..... Overall I thought it was a brilliant flim - Chris Weitz is a visual genius, and you can tell that he did want to stay true to the book as much as possible.

I agree with people's comments about the rushing through of certain scenes - important ones at that! The actual break up scene - in the book she goes to hug him and he grabs her hands to stop her and puts them down at her side, before kissing her forehead and walking away.... then the whole "Its like we never exisited" Erm, hello?! How did they show that - with Edward taking the one pic out of the album? The book did that so much better - like Bella discovering everything gone. I don' think it would have added to much time to the film to include some of those details.... Also the end From Italy/Bedroom/Vote scenes - so much more could have been put into that also, it was all so rushed! Like the plane ride back, the Charlie/Edward exchange, Bella not believing that he was really there when she woke up, the fact that Edward was puzzled when Bella said she wanted to go to the Cullens as her becoming a vampire effected all of them. Also when the vote happens, Edward leaving room and breaking something outside..... All these small details would not have added that much more to film, but would have made it more intense....

I read somewhere that someone said if you hadn't read the books you may have been a bit lost, or not fully understood the depth of the seperation etc and I kind of agree.

I know, I know no film will ever be as good as the book, but small details can make a huge difference!

Overall I thought everyone upped their game - KS was great, much better then the first. TL - Wow! I was so impressed with this kid, and really bought to life the Jacob I had always visualised reading the book, and his physic?! He was perfect. My friend who came with me to the matinee- who wouldn't be a twitard by any means, said "you have to feel sorry for the vamp guy, next to the wolf guy!" Priceless.... Aw, I still love you RPattz!

I loved Billy Burke he was brilliant in all his scenes, Micheal Sheen - brilliant. Dakota Fanning was a great Jane. The Cullens - can I ask what is with Carlise and all the scarfs?!! Jasper and Roslie BAD wigs, and Alice/Ashley - really liked her in some scenes, but not all...

The bambi scene was disasterous, can't believe that wasn't pulled early on, so many other ways they could have shown Bella as a Vampire... Taken the scene from BD or something when she first looks in the mirror?!

The Victoria/Wolf chase was amazing- definitely one of my highlights in the movie, as was the cliff diving Bella underwater with vision of Edward.... with the soundtrack, I thought it was beautiful. And the painting/ Volturi explanation!

Loved the music soundtrack, although in parts the overscore was annoying!

But overall, very impressed, was expecting such huge things, and it delivered.... Can't wait to see it again.... and again.... and again.... And for the DVD extras bits to come out!

Hi, puddle!
No, you wrote so beautifully! I share your fellings about Twilight, for what I could see.
Yes, let's talk after we go see NM.
I will probably go next weekend, if my work allows me (stupid job!). We'll talk.
Have a great week! See you around...

I sooo wish they would have included the scene when Bella, Edward and Alice arrive in the airport after Italy, that is such an important scene! Additionally, it would give the Cullens more face time, which I feel was severely lacking in the film. I don't think Emett said more than 2 lines! And Carlile! I miss him in this movie. That being said, I will see it for the second time tonight, maybe I will have a more informed opinion afterwards:-)

I agree with everything you said about the scenes they should have included. My friend laughed when I complained that the vote didn't take place around the dining room table (of all things). I was irked that Bella, who is supposed to have a hard time talking about emotions, tells Jacob that he's beautiful and that she loves him...she didn't even say I love you once to Edward in Twilight (movie). Yes, she tells US that she's irrevocably in love with him, but she doesn't tell HIM that. I thought the emphasis on romantic feelings between Bella and Jacob was a little too much; that doesn't come up until Eclipse.

I'm just nitpicking. I enjoyed the movie more the second time around, despite having to babysit a theater full of teens on a field trip--and judging from their reactions, I think Summit played right into this demographic.
